Exchange 2010 Activesync with the Windows 8.1 mail app limited to 10 MB attachments?

We have a few executives that want to use the mail app on their 8.1 tablets to access our Exchange 2010 SP3 Ru7 servers via Activesync. They get connected and can sync mail, but when they
try to download attachments that are larger than 10 MB, they get an error (Sorry I don't have the exact wording) the error doesn't say anything about attachment size limit, but it works if the attachment is 9.5 MB and they get the error as soon
as the attachment is greater than 10 MB.
I tested the app with the same attachments greater than 10 MB with an Outlook.com account and it works ok on the Windows 8.1 tablet.
I also tested using an IPad against the Exchange servers and I can download attachments greater than 10 MB just fine.
So it looks like only the combination of Exchange (2010 in my case) and the Windows 8.1 mail app has the limitation?

ActiveSync is limited in the same manner that OWA and web services are. See the following page to see how to increase this limit:

• Windows 8.1 Mail app limitation

I can't send more then 3 or 4 pictures (1MB each) with the Windows Mail app.
Tested with gmail account and company Exchange account.
Is this a limitation of this app? I can't find it with dr. Google ;-)

Hi,
I tested in my own mail app, I can successfully send the pictures, I can also send more large documents like word\PDF.... As I know, mail does not enforce any limits on number and size of attachments users can send.
Do you get any errors when you send the mail with 3 or 4 pictures or other large documents? Have you checked this network bandwith? Is it a unmetered network or metered network?
Have you tried to send in another mail application or web mail in browser? What is the result?

• Same CAS Array Exchange 2010 (HLB), with OS Windows 2008R2 and Windows 2012.

Hello,
We have a 10 node DAG (Exchange 2010 SP3, Windows 2008 R2), with 2 CasArray.
We are planning to add news (multirole) servers and create a new DAG (Exchange 2010 SP3, Windows 2012) in this infra, in the same AD site, to migrate all mailbox from the other DAG (Migration from virtual servers to physical servers).
So we use the same CasArray (HLB, with F5) with différent OS version, during the migration time (1 month or more). I haven't found anything that say it's not supported or can be problematic.
Have you feedback or advice?
Thanks,
Sébastien

Hi,
Based on my knowledge, there is no need to deploy a CAS array with CAS servers running on the same Window version. The version can be different.
After a Client Access server array is defined within an Active Directory site, all Client Access servers within that Active Directory site are automatically part of the Client Access server array.

• Exchange 2010 ActiveSync with Treo 755p

We're in the process of migrating from 2003 Exchange to 2010 and are having a problem with Treo's 755p. All other devices are able to synchronize using ActiveSync but Treo's are getting an error connecting to the server. I tried calling Palm and was told that Exchange 2010 is not supported.
We have a GoDaddy's 256-bit SSL class 2 certificate could this be a culprit?
Has anyone got it to work? How?

Did that certificate work with Exchange 2003 on the same host name? If so, then the certificate probably is not the culprit. If it's a new certificate or a new host name, you could search here for SSL threads. There may be issues with 128 vs. 256 bit certificates, and having the host name listed in the Subject Alternative Name field rather than being the main host name on the certificate.

• Windows 8.1 Mail App doesn't sync Exchange account on desktop but does on laptop

I was referred to this forum by another Microsoft engineer, and while I do not believe this is where this problem can be resolved, I'm following his instructions.
I have Windows 8.1 on my desktop PC and an ASUS X205TA laptop. For several months, the three accounts I have under Mail (two Outlook.com accounts and one Microsoft Exchange work account) synced properly on my desktop.
In fact, the Mail app on my desktop worked fine with my Exchange account from the first time I used it under Windows 8 in 2012. The version didn’t seem to matter – whether it was Windows 8 Consumer Preview, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1, the Mail app
connected to my Microsoft Exchange account simply by filling in my email address and password.
Sometime this past summer, however, in the July timeframe, the Mail app stopped synchronizing with my Exchange account. In an effort to repair it, I removed and attempted to reinstall the account. This time, it would not let me load the Exchange account, even
when including additional information (domain, server, user name, et. al.).
This past fall, I purchased the ASUS notebook with Windwows 8.1 installed, and I was able to successfully load my Exchange account in Windows Mail using just my email address and password, as well as the two Outlook.com accounts, and all three accounts synchronize
properly. When I went back to my desktop, however, I noticed that the Liberty email account was listed under my Mail app. Apparently, since my laptop and desktop configurations are registered under the same Microsoft account, when they synchronized, the Liberty
email account which I successfully loaded on my notebook appeared on my desktop system as well.
The Mail app on the desktop, however, still can’t synchronize with my Exchange account so, in effect, I’m back to where I was in July. I would also add that I'm running Microsoft Outlook 2013 on my desktop and laptop and, in both cases, all three of my email
accounts are installed and working properly.
I don’t know if this information gives you insight into what the problem might be, but it’s apparent that there’s something in the configuration of my desktop Windows Mail app that is causing the problem. It’s working just fine on my notebook.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Mail app multiple times, run the App Troubleshooter, and tried a Clean Boot installation of the Exchange account. None of these fixed the problem.
As I told the other Microsoft engineer, if this were an Exchange problem, I wouldn't be able to connect to my Exchange account in Outlook 2013 on my desktop and my laptop, nor would I be able to connect to my Exchange account using Windows 8.1 Mail
on my laptop.
The problem is specifically with the Windows 8.1 Mail app on my desktop PC, and its sudden inability to sync with my Exchange account after it worked in every iteration of Windows 8 since 2012.
I have posted this issue in this forum as suggested, but my troubleshooting does not point to an Exchange problem, but rather a Windows 8.1 Mail app problem on my desktop PC.
Can you help?

Hello ronontheright,
Do you mean that only the Exchange account in the desktop Mail app can’t sync?
Please take a look at the following article.
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2012/11/26/supporting-windows-8-mail-in-your-organization.aspx
Exchange ActiveSync can be used to sync data for email, contacts, and calendar. The Windows 8 Mail app supports Exchange ActiveSync.
Please open the Windows Store app Calendar and People to check if they can normally sync.
Please try to remove the account in Mail app and sign in again and check if the issue still exists.

• Exchange 2010 dag with only 2 servers

I have my exchange 2010 running on win server 2012 R2 and I have installed another exchange 2010 server with the same FQDN and I want to configure DAG with only these 2 servers. Can I implement DAG with only 2 servers? Can the mailbox, client access and hub
transport roles still work with only 2 servers? If Mailbox and Hub transport could work it will be fine for me as CAS switchover can always be done manually. My main concern is securing data. Any article on how to implement that would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi,
Yes, we can create a DAG with 2Servers and Each server can have upto 100 database depends upon Standard or Enterprise.

• Z10 with Exchange 2010 Activesync missing incoming messages

Z10 with Exchange 2010 Activesync won't download all messages, missing messages include messages sent to internal Exchange distribution groups and bulk email (I could live with this one, lol) Activesync works fine on iOS and android devices (100+ devices in my organization with no issues). Tried enabling secure IMAP on the exchange server, and with this config the messages are delivered, but the body of the same messages missing with the activesync setup have a [No body found] in the message body and are otherwise blank. Tried running the EAVT tool and it returns "Nothing was found for provided credentials" . My personal Gmail account works fine on the phone, tried loading the 10.1 Blackberry OS and had the same problem. Tried setting up the account multiple times, used both autodiscover and manual setup to no avail. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance for your help!

• How do I get the Windows 8.1 Mail/Calendar/People apps to connect to my company's Exchange server?

I have a Surface Pro 2 on my organization's domain, and while I have Outlook 2013 running fine on the desktop side, I'd really like to connect the Mail, Calendar, and People apps to my work Exchange account if possible.
First, a little background on my company's Exchange configuration, which is "extra secure" variety. Obviously, I'm using generic placeholders here. My email address is
[email protected], but our actual Exchange server is exchange.internaldomain.com, and my actual username is lasfir (first 3 of last name, first 3 of first name). I'm not 100% clear on our certificate process,
but from what I understand from talking with our Systems team, it's a self-signed certificate.
Anyway, when I try to add my account, I get the usual email address and password prompts. I enter
[email protected] and my password, which don't resolve. The app returns "we couldn't find settings for
[email protected] Provide us with more info and we'll try connecting again."
So I add the internaldomain as the domain and lasfir as my username and click Connect again. This time it returns "we still couldn't find settings for
[email protected] Providing this additional info may help. If you don't know this information, search online or check with your provider."
So I enter exchange.internaldomain.com as my server address and click Connect again. This time it returns "to connect to this account, you need a valid certificate on this PC. Contact your system administrator for more info." That tells me at least
it's finding my Exchange server, but I have no idea about the certificate thing. I reached out to our Exchange admin and our Systems guys, and they just weren't sure about the certificate process.
As one of the few people in my organization running Windows 8x, I'm a bit of a guinea pig for stuff like this. Any advice how to get this working?
- Greg

It doesn't sound like the Exchange environment is configured in a manner to support these types of clients very well. Have your Exchange team look at the following
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2012/11/26/supporting-windows-8-mail-in-your-organization.aspx
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/10/18/supporting-windows-mail-8-1-in-your-organization.aspx
From the latter article: "Communications applications can connect to a corporate Exchange service
configured to require certificate-based authentication. User authentication certificates can be provisioned to Windows 8.1 devices by administrators or end-users can browse to certificate and install to user certificate storage."
You might want to:
Ask your Exchange team the public URLs (ExternalURL) for Exchange OWA & ActiveSync
Open the OWA URL in your Internet Explorer from your Surface
If you get a Certificate warning, open the certificate and select Install (NOTE: You may have to install the entire certificate chain). Your desktop support team should be able to support this because it is the SAME process for standard Windows 8x
desktops.
Confirm that you can open OWA on your surface with no more certificate or security warnings. NOTE: The Exchange team will have to configured OWA properly.
Once confirmed, repeat the same steps for the activesync URL that they provided.
When done, try using the OWA OR ActiveSync URL value in your settings of your Mail client.
Good Luck

• Exchange 2010 coexist with exchange 2013

Hi All ,
Planning to have a coexistence scenario in my environment which is mentioned below
Exchange 2010 - ambiguous url in place - OA enabled
For mapi/rpc traffic - mail.domain.in - exchange 2010
For https traffic - mail.domain.in - exchange 2010
mail.domain.in will get resolved in to cas array in exchange 2010 .
After coexistence On our side we are not going to move the mail.domain.in namespace to exchange 2013 , Instead of that we are going to use a new namespace in exchange 2013 for internal outlook anywhere and it will be outlookmail.domain.in and for the remaining
exchange 2013 services like pop, imap, owa, active sync url's,external OA will be having mail.domain.in as same as exchange 2010 namespace.
just consider outlookmail.domain.in is available on the san certificate installed in exchange 2013.
Note :
On my ide I would assume Internal outlook 2010 mapi users will connect directly to exchange 2010 servers on the namespace mail.domain.in
Likewise i would assume Internal outlook anywhere 2013 users will connect directly to exchange 2013 servers on the namespace outlookmail.domain.in
Services like pop, imap, owa, active sync ,external OA connections for both exchange 2010 and exchange 2013 from the external world will be routed from firewall to exchange 2013 servers .Then https traffic for exchange 2010 mailbox users will be proxied to 2010
exchange server via exchange 2013 server.
question : I would like to know above mentioned scenario is possible or not ?
On my side I know in my environment i am having ambiguous url's in place and at the same time i don't want the exchange 2010 internal outlook users to connect via exchange 2013 rpc over http even though OA is enabled on exchange 2010.
So simply i can say i need my internal exchange 2010 mailbox users has to connect via tcp/ip.
All of you tell me your valuable suggestions.
Regards
S.Nithyanandham

Hi,
Going Straight to the point... and answering your question...
The scenario above IS possible For a while... But going ahead in the migration process, You'd face problems once the Exch2013 doesn't know how to handle MAPI connections:
As per Exchange Team...
In this scenario where both the MAPI/RPC and HTTP workloads are using the same FQDN you cannot successfully move the FQDN to CAS 2013 without
breaking your MAPI/RPC client connectivity entirely. I repeat, your MAPI/RPC clients will start failing to connect via MAPI/RPC once
their DNS cache expires after the shared FQDN is moved to CAS 2013.
As their recommendation, and I would tell you too by experience, the best option is to really use different internal and external URLs for the clients to connect to.
change your design to use a specific internal-only FQDN for MAPI/RPC clients. If you are in the middle of a 2010 deployment using an Ambiguous
URL I recommend you change your ClientAccessArray FQDN to a unique name and update the mailbox database RpcClientAccessServer values
on all Exchange 2010 mailbox databases accordingly. Fixing this item mid-migration to Exchange 2010 or even in your fully migrated environment will ensure any newly created or manually repaired Outlook profiles are protected, but it will not automatically
fix existing Outlook clients with the old value in the server field.
So the overall for this first point is to enable the OA for all internal users, so as to ease the migration process in the future, even if for the time being its not necessary.
Also another point you should take into consideration is the version of yours OLK versions, as the minimum supported are as per below:
Outlook 2007: 12.0.6665.5000 (SP3 + the November 2012 Public Update or any later PU)
Outlook 2010: 14.0.6126.5000 (SP1 + the November 2012 Public Update or any later PU)
Outlook 2013: 15.0.4420.1017 (RTM or later)
I don't know the size of you network, but it might be necessary for you to use an inventory tool in order to identify that.
As advised, its really worthy to have a look at the following article, thus to clarify your view about this issue.
Ambiguous URLs and their effect on Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 Migrations
From <http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/07/17/3574451.aspx>
Hope it can help you!
Cheers,
Think before you ask, give detail as much as possible, then ask and you will get help! Always have in mind, people do not guess! :)

Perhaps let's first try updating your Apple Software Update.
Launch Apple Software Update ("Start > All Programs > Apple Software Update"). Does it launch and offer you a newer version of Apple Software Update? If so, choose to install just that update to Apple Software Update. (Deselect any other software offered at the same time.)
If the ASU update goes through okay, try another iTunes install. Does it go through without the errors this time?
