Exchange 2010 and Client Access Server Roll

Hi,
We have one CAS/HUB server, two mailbox roll servers in a DAG. Both mailbox roll servers have public folder database and both are replicate each other. Now we are going to office365. Now we
need to install client access roll on public folder database server(mailbox roll server) for office365 users to access the public folder from on premises according to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn249373(v=exchg.150).aspx
We don't want get any problem after installing another CAS server roll. Our users' outlook should not interrupt with new installation. We are not setup client access array here. We are installing
this for public folders access to office365 mailboxes. How to install and configure?
Please help us to achieve this.
Thanks & Regards.

Exchange 2013 doesn't have a public folder database.  If you're asking about an older version of Exchange, the Exchange previous versions forums are here:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/exchangeserverlegacy
You shouldn't have any problem installing the CAS role.  To be sure, after installing the server change all the URLs in the virtual directories to point to one of the real CAS servers, and run Set-ClientAccessServer -AutodiscoverServiceInternalUri to
to a valid Autodiscover URL.

  • Exchange 2013 - Proxy through client access server not working

    Hello All -
I recently migrated our company to Exchange 2013 and noticed that our email was leaving through the mailbox server. I put a check mark in the Send Connector where it says "Proxy through Client Access Server" and my mail is still coming from the
mailbox server. How can I go about fixing this problem?
    Environment:
    1 CAS Server
    1 Mailbox Server
Both server are behind the firewall with only port 25 opened to the CAS. The CAS has a Send Connector to a smart host for all messages.
    Thank you!
    Ryan

    Hi,
Please check if the outbound messages without smart host are coming from CAS .
I doubt it send to the smart host directly if you configure smart host, and not use proxy thogh CAS.

  • Single name space in between Exchange 2010 and 2013

    Hi,
In my current environment I have 2 Exchange 2010 servers with DAG no CAS NLB. I installed Exchange 2013 with 2 CAS with WNLB and 2 Mailboxes with DAG. The main requirement is to configure Single name space to access in between Exchange 2010 and Exchange
2013. On Exchange 2010 DAG there is a URL using is owa.domain.com and I also configured in Exchange 2013 all the virtual directories with this name owa.domain.com but having an issue that when I open explorer and use the owa.domain.com URL the user on Exchange
2013 gets their mailbox but user on Exchange 2010 gets error HTTP 403 blank page.
I observed that in Exchange Organization settings CAS settings one server OWA, ECP etc shows their internal external URL but the other server unable to open the OWA, ECP URL and give error message that "An IIS directory entry
couldn't be created. The error message is Access is denied. HResult = -2147024891"
Please guide how to resolve this issue and use the same name URL in Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    See the below brief:
User will connect to mail.contoso.com as his namespace endpoint. CAS2013 in Site1 will authenticate the user, do a service discovery, and determine that the mailbox version is 2010 and is located within the local AD site. CAS2013 will proxy the
request to an Exchange 2010 Client Access server which will retrieve the necessary data from the Exchange 2010 Mailbox server
Go through the full blog for better understanding of the redirection.
    Client Connectivity with Exchange 2013
Hope you have changed your DNS records to direct connections only to your new Exchange 2013 server. You'll move the host names (for example, mail.contoso.com) users have been using to connect to Outlook Web Access, Autodiscover, and so on, from your
Exchange 2010 server to your Exchange 2013 server. When an Exchange 2010 user tries to open their mailbox, the Exchange 2013 server will proxy their request and communicate with the Exchange 2010 server on their behalf.
    Configuring DNS includes the following:
Change the primary host names, such as mail.contoso.com, autodiscover.contoso.com, and owa.contoso.com (if used) to point to the external, publically-accessible, IP address of the Exchange 2013 Client Access server with your public DNS provider.
Change the primary host names, such as mail.contoso.com (or internal.contoso.com if you're using different internal host names) and owa.contoso.com (if used) to point to the internal machine name of the Exchange 2013 Client Access server on your internal
    DNS servers.

  • Client Access Server per AD Site?

In a single forest, single domain, multi AD site environment, can users in Site-B using Outlook 2010 clients connect to Client Access array /OWA, Hub, Maibox in Site-A without the need to install a Client Access server in Site-B? or Do I actually
have to install a Client Access server in Site-B?
I've read this thread, but I am still a little confused
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/03b835b4-7ecb-47ee-9b34-20cb2f70c3d4/client-access-server-active-directory-site?forum=exchangesvradminlegacy
Per MS.."You must install the Client Access server role in every Exchange organization and every Active Directory site that has the Mailbox server role installed"
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124915(v=exchg.141).aspx.   My Site-B does not have a Mailbox server, so I don't really need to have a Client Access in Site-B, if I understand this correctly.
Greatly appreciated if anyone can provide some clarification.
    Thanks!
Note:  Right now, there's only a single, default site in AD (Site-A). I am planning to add a Site-B in AD and add a domain controller in Site-B, but a little confused about the exchange.  Just want to make sure that once I add Site-B to AD,
users would still be able to access Outlook/Exchange properly.

yes you don't need to. Your site B users will connect directly to the CAS on the Site-A, make sure the link speed is good enough.

  • Microsoft Exchange 2010 and Outlook 2013

My colleagues computer suddenly crashed yesterday and it wouldn't restart without a system restore.
Now when we try to open up Outlook it says that you must connect to Microsoft Exchange at least once before you can usse your Outlook Data file (.ost)
Also The PC has lost the trust relationship on the domain
We have exchange 2010 and the servers OS is Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2011 and the Client PC is running off of Windows 8.
Can you please help me resolve this issue?
    kind regards
    Steve Bradshaw
    [email protected]

It might be possible that the MAPI key (which enables Outlook to synchronize with Exchange) has been deleted due to the System crash. So, in order to establish the connection, you need to Reconnect the OST file to the original MAPI profile and then reconnect
then MAPI profile to Exchange Server.
If the above method fails to resolve the issue, then the best option for you would be to take the help of any professional OST to PST Conversion Software, which will help you to Extract data from your OST file and convert it to PST file which you can import
back to your Outlook to establish the connection with Exchange Server again.

  • Office 365 Streaming Notifications, "One or more subscriptions in the request reside on another Client Access server."

    Hello all,
I am maintaining a part of our product that requires monitoring mailboxes for events.  This is currently being done by using streaming connections for getting the notifications.  Our solution has been successful for situations with smaller numbers
of mailboxes, ~200 or less.  However we are seeing some issues when scaling up to say, 5000 mailboxes.
The error and the sequence leading up to it are as follows:
    Make an Exchange Service Account.
    exchSvc.ConnectionGroupName = someGroupName;
    add to the httpheaders ("X-AnchorMailbox", userSmtp) and ("X-PreferServerAffinity", "true");
create a new impersonated UserId for the userSmtp address that is our anchor mailbox.
set the Exchange Service account ImpersonatedUserID to the one we just made.
    ExchangeServiceAccount.SubscribeToStreamingNotifications(new FolderId[] { WellKnownFolderName.Inbox }, _mailEvents);
to this point everything was successful, saw no error messages.
we create a second impersonated UserID for a different mailbox, and repeat the process above from that step forward.  Upon the final step, subscribing to the streaming notifications we get the error:
Exception: Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.ServiceResponseException: One or more subscriptions in the request reside on another Client Access server. GetStreamingEvents won't proxy in the event of a batch request.
This is only the second subscription that we are trying to add to this connection, and it is to a different mailbox than the first.
Can anyone please help point me to where this is going wrong?

    >> Is there a good way to verify the number of subscriptions in a group?
Not that I know of you should be tracking this in your code there are no server side operations in EWS to even tell you if there are active subscriptions on a mailbox.
    >>The error I am getting is on the second subscription in a new group, just after doing the anchor mailbox so I don't think we are hitting the 200 limit.
It's hard to say without seeing your code but it sounds like there is problem with your grouping code. One way to validate this is that with every request you make with the EWS managed API there is a
    RequestId header http://blogs.msdn.com/b/exchangedev/archive/2012/06/18/exchange-web-services-managed-api-1-2-1-now-released.aspx
you should be able to give that RequestId to the Office365 support people and they should be able to check the EWS Log on the server and tell you more about what's happening (it maybe server side bug). Something doesn't quite add up in that the X-BackEndOverrideCookie
is what ultimately determines what server the request ends up at and the error is essentially telling you its ending up at the wrong server (have you looked at the headers on the error message?). Is it always one group of users that fails have
you tried different groups and different combinations etc.
    Cheers

  • EWS - Office 365 - "One or more subscriptions in the request reside on another Client Access server. GetStreamingEvents won't proxy in the event of a batch request."

    Hello
My goal is to subscribe for streaming notifications for multiple users in the same time.
One way to do that is to create multiple  StreamingSubscriptionConnections each one should contain one  StreamingSubscription for each user. The problem with this method is that in Office 365 the maximum
number of connections opened is 20.
Another method to solve this problem is by creating one StreamingSubscriptionConnection and then all StreamingSubscriptions for each user to the connection. This method solves the maximum number of connections
problem and it works fine with exchange onPrimises. But when trying it with Office 365 it will result with the SubscriptionError:
"One or more subscriptions in the request reside on another Client Access server. GetStreamingEvents won't proxy in the event of a batch request."
Can anyone help me here ?

With Office365 you need to Group your subscriptions and set the Affinityheaders see
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn458789(v=exchg.150).aspx and
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/mstehle/archive/2013/07/17/more-affinity-considerations-for-exchange-online-and-exchange-2013.aspx . Take note of the restrictions on the Group and other throttling restrictions if your using only one service account.
    Cheers

  • Mailbox and Client Access on the same servers for CAS HA (L4 LB) and Mailbox DAG

Hi, I would like to ask this question.
I'm reading all sort of documentation that I'm finding on the internet, but I can't understand if what I'm thinking to do is possible.
I would like to setup a basic environment configuring only two Exchange 2013 on two Win 2012 R2 servers. Both servers will be Mailbox (MBX) and Client Access (CAS). I will create a two-member DAG using File Share Witness or Disk Witness for the Dynamic Quorum.
Then I will setup Outlook Anywhere with internal and external namespace for CAS redundancy and layer 4 load balancing.
In this scenario I will not need to install a third part load balancer.
Am I doing right or I watching a movie?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi ,
You could need to have the HLB or virtual load balancers for redundancy.
Disadvantages of some load balancing methods :
If you use Windows NLB then it can provide redundancy on server level failure and not on application level.
In case if we use the windows round robin method for load balancing then it wouldn't provide server level and application level redundancy during the failures. At the Same time we need to manually adjust the DNS records during the server failure but on the
client end dns caches will create the issues.
Lets consider you are having the internal and external names for outlook anywhere like below .
internal and external outlook anywhere name :
    mail.domain.com
For the above name just configure the HOST A record in windows DNS and map it to load balancer ip.Then the second step would be to configure your exchange servers in LB .So all the internal and external outlook client connectivity will happen via LB to exchange
servers. In that case if anyone of the server is down then LB will automatically make the outlook client to get connected to the server which is alive and at the same time none of the request from outlook client to LB will get forward to the server which is
    in down state.
Note : Make sure you are having the redundancy for LB devices also otherwise it would be a single point of failure on the LB end .
Please reply me if anything is unclear.
    Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham

  • Exchange 2013 DAG / client access

    Hello
I'm in the planning of a new Exchange 2013 infrastructure. The infrastructure will be located in a datacenter and should host about 1000 mailboxes. I have read many whitepapers and tutorials, but some things are still unclear to me.
    - Microsoft suggests multi-role servers for this amount of users because client access is no more than a reverse proxy in EX2013. Is this correct? I've read that one users with 200 mails/day needs 8.5 MCycles with only DB and 10.63 MCycles with DB and CAS
on the same server. So I plan to start with 2 multi-role servers in a DAG. What's your oppinion on this?
    - Client connections: I assume the clients connect to the cluster IP of the DAG. How do they get directed to the server on which their database is online? Does each server need to have the cluster IP and a public IP to which the clients connect?
    - SMTP: As I understand the documentation, mails are sent from the server which the user is active on. (Which makes sense for high availability.) What is best practice regarding the protocol logs? Do the support employees need to search in the files on 2
    servers?
Thank you very much for your input!

    Hi
I would use the firewall for load balancing unless there is a technical reason why this is not possible.  NLB is not recommended as it is not service aware - you cannot configure a probe to test OWA is working for example - so if you already have something
better that would be my choice.
In the choice between IIS ARR and NLB or CAS and NLB I would go for IIS ARR as this reduces you license costs, but neither of these is better than the appliance/firewall option.
I've never used NLB for load balancing other than on TMGs so I cannot say what the performance is like behind a firewall, in theory your assumption would be correct.
The load balancer doesn't make this decision it just spreads the load between the active servers, the CAS role connects the use session to the correct mailbox server:

  • Primary mailbox (on Exchange 2010) and Personal Archive (on Exchange 2013), possible?

Current environment is Exchange 2010 SP3 RU5 supporting 4,000 Users. Client estate is Outlook 2010 SP1 going on SP2.
We're pulling our Archiving solution away from 3rd party and back into Exchange. Implementing a new set of Exchange 2010 Servers (old DAG or in a new Archive DAG) would be easy. But is there Exchange 2013 stepping stone potential?
Can the Archive DAG / Archive mailboxes be on 2013? i.e. for any given User, leave their primary mailbox on Exchange 2010 and create new Archive mailbox on 2013.
I want to avoid implementing 2010 Archive Servers and then go 2013 Archive 6 months or a year later.
    This article suggests 'no':
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dd979800(v=exchg.150).aspx
"Locating a user’s mailbox and archive on different versions of Exchange Server is not supported."
I've found little info but the odd statement here / there.
Is this the latest position? Is it that cut & dry? Anyone tried it? Why won't it work (or will it but it's not supported)?
    Thanks!

    <I had a response from MS>
Below is a summary of the case for your records:
    Symptom:
    =============
Is it possible to implement a 2013 environment to host the Archive mailboxes? i.e. for any given User, their primary mailbox is on Exchange 2010 and their Archive
    mailbox is on 2013.
    Resolution:
    =============
It’s not supported to have a user’s primary mailbox reside on an older Exchange version than the user’s archive. If the user’s primary mailbox is still on Exchange
2010, you must move it to Exchange 2013 before or at the same time when you move the archive to Exchange 2013.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj651146(v=exchg.150).aspx
as per the repro in our lab, having the archive mailbox in higher version of exchange would fail with the error above
<the scenario isn't completely relevant, looks like he's trying to put the Primary on 2013 and not the Archive, no matter, we've established there are problems, question is whether they are looking into this area / to patch, they go on...>
At this point in time we don’t have a conformation from the product team, if the above would change in the future exchange versions.
<MS did say on the call that they were not looking at fixing it, naturally this isn't a "never", as per previous statement - they can't commit 100% to the future, but they've provided me the answer - they are not currently looking at resolving/providing
this as a migration scenario, end.>

  • Mail is Slow between Exchange 2010 and 2013 During Co-Existance Transition

    Hello,
I recently migrated from a single Exchange 2003 server to a single Exchange 2010 server
I am now trying to Migrate from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.
I have a test user on Exchange 2013, and Internet Mail works fine and quickly both inbound and outbound.
However, when I try and send between a 2010 user to my 2013 user, delivery takes around 10 minutes.
On the 2013 server I see health check messages, and my 2010 user's message stuck in retry status. The messages eventually clear and the mail is delivered. Any ideas what is causing this delay?
In terms of connectors I have all the defaults. And I created 1 for internal relays from devices. Which works fine.
I have two Exchange 2013 servers configured in a DAG, but I don't have a load balance in place as of yet. So only server 1 is being accessed as the CAS.
    Thanks

    Hi,
According to your description, the mail flow is slow only between Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 server. If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
If yes, I’d like to confirm if there are multiple NICs on your Exchange servers. And you can refer to the following thread:

We have ONLY 1 network adapter, but if we select "All network adapters" instead of Hyper-V, we will get delays.

You can easily install Exchange 2010 (SP3) on Windows Server 2012. If you are working with previous SP version’s you can easily upgrade after installing server. And registry settings
are used to fix an error which may occur during migration, so it is not mandatory to correct registry settings each time during migration.
You can find detailed information about installing Exchange 2010 (SP3) on Windows Server 2012 at this blog :http://oxfordsbsguy.com/2013/03/24/how-to-install-exchange-2010-sp3-on-windows-server-2012/
