Exchange 2010 failing to upgrade to SP1, SP2, or SP3

My host server is running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. Currently Exchange 2010 is without any service pack. I initially tried to upgrade to SP1 but that failed with the message below. Thinking that I could perhaps skip to SP2 or even SP3 I attempt that
upgrade and received a similar message though not posted here. The Schema for our domain shows that it is at the Windows Server 2008 R2 level. I am attempting to apply the update using the Enterprise/Schema admin account for our network.
Here is the error message that I receive. This happens after all prereq checks are done and the installation has actually started.

Agreed - check the default email address policy is not corrupt and same for remote domains - did you make ay modifications to them?
Since he is running this as das Uber-admin, it will prep Exchange schema and AD even if not explicitly done prior.  Exchange setup is helpful like that, well some times....

  • Upgrading XP-Pro SP2 to SP3. Consequences to....

    Hi!
Upgrading XP-Pro SP2 to SP3. What are the consequences to:
1]  Recovery Console, especially if installed on your drive? Should it be reinstaled? But it will need a CD with SP3 version of XP.
2]  Previously created recovery disk. Should it be recreated? If you do, is it actually taking account of SP3?
3]  Can the SP3 upgrade be slipstreamed as SP1 and SP2, creating a SP3 version of XP?
There are more questions, but this are the most important.
    Thanks for your interest.

ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS WITH XP-SP3 RELEASED AND INSTALLED, FOR THE BENEFIT OF MEMBERS.
1] The Recovery console should be reinstalled after the SP3 upgrade, but....
2] you must create first a slipstream CD of XP PRO SP3, which can certainly be done,
3} following previously issue procedure by MS, so that it can find the new information.
In the same vane, you can not slipstream Vista to SP1. MS is suppose to provide it.

  • Installation of Service Pack 3 on Exchange 2010 Fails

Hello Everyone and thank you in advance for any advice.
I am trying to install exchange SP3 on an Exchange 2010 server. I have One Exchange server has Mailbox, Client Access and Hub Transport on it.
We had one exchange 2003 server and then installed a new hardware/software server and put Exchange 2010 standard on it. We followed all the upgrade KB articles we could find. After we were done, we then waited for Pub folders and OAB to sync. We then decommissioned
the old 2003 exchange server, removed it from the domain and disconnected all legacy mailbox stores.
We are not trying to install Exchange SP3 and below is the error we get. I may point out that I am suspicious it may have something to do with our email address policy because when I go to Organization Configuration > Hub Transport there is
    nothing in the email Address Policies Tab and then I get a warning;
    Microsoft Excahnge Warning
    Warning
    Get-EmailAddressPolicy
Warning: Recipient policy objects that don't contain e-mail address won't be show unless you include the includemailbopxsettingonlypolicy parameter in the Get-EmailAddressPolicy cmdlet.
Well I run it in the poweshell and I can see it but doesn't tell me anything. Anyway back to my issue when trying to install SP3. I get the following error.

Hi Martina, we no longer have the system Manager anymore for the EX2003 server. But I looked in adsi edit - in
    the value msExchPolicyOptionList and
the value reads <not set>, so nothing to delete there.
    I also tried "Upgrade
the Default E-Mail Address Policy from LDAP Filters to OPATH Filters" and when i run the command
Set-EmailAddressPolicy "Default Policy" -IncludedRecipients AllRecipientscomes back with "The operation can't be performed on the default e-mail address policy."So i ran Get-EmailAddressPolicyComes back with Warning: Recipient policy objects that don't contain email address wont be shown unless you include the IncludeMailboxSettingOnlyPolicy parameter in the Get-EmailAddressPolicy cmdlet.I then include the command it wants then it returnsNAME=Default Policy Priority=Lowest RecipientFilter=Alias -ne $null Then someone suggested to run "Get-EmailAddressPolicy "Default Policy" | FL"after running command above I get The operation coudn't be performed because object "Default Policy" Couldn't be found "DNSServer.Domain.COMANY other advice is welcome and appreciated.

  • Exchange 2010 failing during setup - Managment Tools

    Hello,
I am hoping that someone can assist me with this error I am getting while trying to install Exchange 2010 on server 2008 R2. It seems that towards of the installation of the Management Tools it fails. Please see my screenshot. Any assistance would be appreciated.
Here are the steps that I have taken to troubleshoot:
    Uninstalled exchange failed install
    attempted to reinstall - fail
The firewall was turned off so I turned it back on because I read that someone else had the same issue and it worked for them.
So far nothing is working for me. I installed Exchange once before as a VM and didn't have any issues at all.
    Phil Balderos

    Hi
Did you set the service to automatic and start it? Did you reboot the server after that and then run the setup again?
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
    Thanks Ed,
When I first built the VM I stopped the firewall server then disabled it. So when I had to start troubleshooting this issue I started the fire wall and then and set the startup type to manual. I did reboot the server several times when I had to
    uninstall the failed installation.

  • Any End User Benefits Of Exchange 2010 to 2013 Upgrade?

Most of the benefits I see when I search online for new features of Exchange 2013 seem to be related to administrative functions that users don't see or care about.
What are the biggest benefits that end users can see for moving from Exchange Server 2010 to Exchange Server 2013 that don't require also upgrading Office 2010 to 2013 to take advantage of?

If your users do nothing in Outlook but send and receive messages, then there is probably no benefit. That would be true in just about any version of Exchange.
If however, they are interested in improved connectivity (Outlook Anywhere/ MAPI/HTTP in SP1) and getting a superior experience on mobile devices and tablets as well as access to apps, the 2013 is a must.
Don't forget the improvements coming Exchange's way in the future:

  • "Logon Failed" Exception with CR2008 SP1/SP2 on WIN2008 Server

    Hi,
we have a problem running our .NET Application on a WIN2008 SP2 server. The code which works fine
with all VISTA / WIN-XP / WIN7 or WIN 2003 OS. producese an exception when running on WIN2008:
    CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.LogOnException: Fehler bei Anmeldung. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80000000):
    Kein Fehler.
       bei CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ClientDoc.ReportClientDocumentClass.VerifyDatabase()
       bei CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportClientDocumentWrapper.VerifyDatabase()
       bei CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument.VerifyDatabase()
--- Ende der internen Ausnahmestapelüberwachung ---
The problem is absulutely reproducable and occours with evrey report in rh application.
    The database is SQL2005.

    Axel

Easiest way to start to troubleshoot this is to install the CR designer on that server - just as a test. Then try to run the report in the designer. Does it work there? The next easiest way to start to troubleshoot this is to create a one line windows app (crystalreportviewer1.reportsource). Let the report prompt for the logon parameters. Does this win app works? In this way you at least start to determine if this is some runtime issue (CR, db client, etc.) or a permission issue.

  • Cannot install KB982867 while trying to Upgrade exchange 2010 to SP3

I  just had to reinstall Server 2008 standard with Exchange 2010. I am now trying to install SP3 on Exchange and got all the hotfixs but the KB982867. I go to the link on the install screen and it take me to a Archive page. I did find on the web a download

    Hi Zman,
Before you install KB2532942, you must have the .NET Framework 4 installed to apply this hotfix rollup.
The related KB for your reference:
Hotfix rollup package 2532942 is available for Windows Communication Foundation for the .NET Framework 4

  • SBS2011 (Exchange 2010 SP2) - limiting cache size doesn't appear to work

    Hi All,
Hoping for some clarification here, or extra input at least.  I know there are other posts about this topic such as
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/smallbusinessserver/thread/5acb6e29-13b3-4e70-95d9-1a62fc9304ac but these have been
incorrectly marked as answer in my opinion.
To recap the issue.  The Exchange 2010 store.exe process uses a lot of memory.  So much in fact it has a negative performance impact on the server (sluggish access to the desktop etc).  You can argue about this all day - it's by design
and shouldn't be messed with etc but the bottom line is that it does use too much memory and it does need tweaked.  I know this because if you simply restart the Information Store process (or reboot the server) it frees up the memory and the performance
returns (until its cache is fully rebuilt that is).  I have verified this on 4 different fresh builds of SBS2011 over the last 6 months. (all on servers with 16GB RAM)
I have scoured the internet for information on limiting how much memory exchange uses to cache the information store and most articles point back to the same two articles (http://eightwone.com/2011/04/06/limiting-exchange-2010-sp1-database-cache/
    and
http://eightwone.com/2010/03/25/limiting-exchange-2010-database-cache) that deal with exchange 2010 and exchange 2010 SP1, notably not exchange 2010 SP2.  Ergo most articles are out of date since exchange 2010 SP2 has been released since these articles
    were posted.
When testing with our own in house SBS2011 server (with exchange 2010 SP2) I have found that specifying the min, max and cache sizes in ADSIEDIT has varying results that are not in line with the results documented in the articles I mentioned above.
I suspect the behaviour of these settings has changed with the release of exchange 2010 SP2 (as it did between the initial release and SP1).
    Specifically here's what I have found using ADSIEDIT;
If you set the msExchESEParamCacheSize to a value - it doesn't have any effect.
If you set the msExchESEParamCacheSizeMax to a value - it doesn't have any effect.
If you set the msExchESEParamCacheSizeMin to a value - it always locks the store.exe process to using exactly this value.
I have also tested using combinations of these settings with the result that the size and max size values are always ignored (and the store.exe process uses the maximum available amount of memory - thus causing the performance degradation) but as soon as
you specify the min value it locks it to this value and it doesn't change.
As a temporary solution on our in-house SBS2011 I have set the min value to 4GB and it appears to be running fine (only 15 mailboxes though).
Anyone got some input on this ? thank you for your time.

I concur with Erin. I'm seeing the same behaviour across all SBS2011 boxes, whether running SP1, SP2 or SP3.
If a minimum value is set, the store cache size barely rises above the minumum. I have one server with 32GB RAM. Store.exe was using 20GB of RAM, plus all the other Exchange services which total 4GB+. That left virtually no free RAM and trying to do
anything else on the server was sluggish at best.
All the advise is that setting a maximum alone has no effect and a minimum must be set too. But when set, the store cache size barely rises above the minimum. I have set a 4GB minimum and 16GB max, but 5 days later it's still using only slightly more than
4GB and there's 8GB free. Now the server as a whole is responsive, but doing anything with Exchange is sluggish.
Just saying leave Exchange to manage itself is not an answer. The clue is in the name - Small Business Server. It's not Exchange Only Server - there are other tasks an SBS must handle so leaving Exchange to run rampant is not an option. Besides, there are
allegedly means to manage the Exchange cache size - they just don't apparently work!
I'm guessing nobody has an answer to this so the only solution is to effectively fix the cache size to a sensible value by setting min and max to the same value.

  • Does MS outlook 2007 in client machine is recommended in Exchange 2010

    Hi All,
We have a users who uses an outlook via citrix. The outlook clinet on citrix servers is 2007 SP1 and recently there is an upgrade at Exchange server from 2007 to 2010 and all users mail boxes are upgraded to Exchange 2010. After upgrading users mail box to
2010, there are many issue like
    1. Outlook takes more time to load for few users.
    2. Gets a pop-up "trying to connect to Exchange server".
    3. Due to this, performance of citrix becomes very slow. Citrix works fine once outlook closes.
    4. Another strange thing.....there are 2 mailboxes under Exchange 2007, when we send an email from these mail box the mail shows in Outbox but mail got delivered recipients and will not show up in Sent mails.. :(
Could you please give me some suggestions.

For 1-3 problem, you may try to run Outlook in safe mode ("Outlook.exe /safe") without Anti-virus running and check whether the performance of Outlook against Exchange in Citrix platform is fine. If the problem is not caused by client, I think there might
be something configuration problem on Citrix or Windows Server site.
Here is a discussion thread with the same topic from Citrix forum
    http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/310220-poor-performance-on-new-xenapp-farm/
For the Question 4, please check the following Outlook option to check the result.
File > Options > Mail tab > Save messages section > tick the option "Save copies of message in the Sent Items folder"

Is it possible to Recall message from OWA in Exchange 2010?? we have ex2010 sp2.
    if possible please provide steps

First, Exchange 2010 SP2 is no longer supported.  Please update to SP3 at your earliest convenience.

Second, message recall has never been available in OWA.  This is an Outlook feature, not an Exchange feature.

  • Which version of Windows XP (SP1, SP2, SP3?) can I install on Mac Pro 2011 using Boot camp

I am planning to install Microsoft XP on my Mac Pro 2011 using boot-camp. Since there are multiple versions available (Home, Professional, Pro with SP1, SP2, and SP3's etc…) I am finding hard to decide which one is the tested and best available option?
Also any other specific features to consider while purchasing this OS.
    Please advise…

Thank you guys for your quick response.
However, I am not clear what you guys wanna say here, I simply want to know Which windows XP can I install on Macbook Pro (Laptop) using boot camp?
I will repeat what I already said given that you told us that you are running Lion on a newer MacBook Pro.
You should visit the Boot Camp forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp
And you should read the Boot Camp Help documents http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
XP, regardless of version, is not going to work on a newer computer nor will it work if you are running Lion OS.

  • Cannot upgrade Exchange 2010 SP1 Management Tools to SP2 on Win 8.1 workstation

I have a Win 8.1 workstation that I am trying to update the Exchange Management tools on from 2010 SP1 to SP2. I get an error that says:
           Error:
The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); &RoleBinPath\ServiceControl.ps1 EnableServices Critical" was run: "AuthorizationManager check failed.".
The WMI service is being disabled and not starting back up after, causing the error. I have tried the following:
-Confirmed that the ExecutionPolicy is set to undefined/unrestricted for the localmachine
-Confirmed no GPO exists in our domain to restrict this
Every single time I run the install the WMI service switches to disabled and the localmachine Execution Policy is switched to RemoteSigned.
I have tried the Google search steps except for the Setup /M:Recoverserver since I really don't know what that would do to our Exchange environment. I have seen some posts that the Exchange 2010 MGMT tools are not supported on Win 8, which I find hard to
believe. I get no unsupported error just this incredibly frustrating error.
    Any ideas?

What you are doing is totally unsupported:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728623(v=exchg.150).aspx
By the way, Exchange 2010 sp1 and SP2 are no longer supported, the minimum supported is SP3.

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade Exchange 2010 SP2 from SP1, but Transport service does not start automatically.
Tried manually start services, it started successfully but again goes down within few seconds automatically.
    Reboot server. but no luck.

    Hi,
I recommend you use event viewer to check if there are any relate event logs. This may help us to find the cause.
In addition, as Amit mentioned, Exchange 2010 SP2 isn't supported by Microsoft, I think upgrading to SP3 is a much more sensible approach.
    Thanks.
