Hi,
For CAS/HUB servers, you can still use Windows NLB to load balance traffic. It is supported but the recommendation is to user HLB. Besides, it is recommended to create a Client Access server array even if you only have a single Client Access server within
your organization.
For DAG, we shoule note that each member of the DAG must also be running the same operating system.
More information about datacenter switchover, please refer to
Datacenter Switchovers.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I currently have a single Exchange 2010 Server that has all the roles supporting about 500 users. I plan to upgrade to 2013 and move to a four server HA Exchange setup (a CAS array with 2 Server as CAS servers and one DAG with 2 mailbox Servers). My
goal is to plan out the transition in steps with no downtime. Email is most critical with my company.
Exchange 2010 is running SP3 on a Windows Server 2010 and a Separate Server as archive. In the new setup, rather than having a separate server for archiving, I am just going to put that on a separate partition.
Here is what I have planned so far.
1. Build out four Servers. 2 CAS and 2 Mailbox Servers. Mailbox Servers have 4 partitions each. One for OS. Second for DB. Third for Logs and Fourth for Archives.
2. Prepare AD for exchange 2013.
3. Install Exchange roles. CAS on two servers and mailbox on 2 servers. Add a DAG. Someone had suggested to me to use an odd number so 3 or 5. Is that a requirement?
4. I am using a third party load balancer for CAS array instead of NLB so I will be setting up that.
5. Do post install to ready up the new CAS. While doing this, can i use the same parameters as assigned on exchange 2010 like can i use the webmail URL for outlook anywhere, OAB etc.
6. Once this is done. I plan to move a few mailboxes as test to the new mailbox servers or DAG.
7. Testing outlook setups on new servers. inbound and outbound email tests.
once this is done, I can migrate over and point all my MX records to the new servers.
Please let me know your thoughts and what am I missing. I like to solidify a flowchart of all steps that I need to do before I start the migration.
thank you for your help in advanceHi,
okay, you can use 4 virtual servers. But there is no need to deploy dedicated server roles (CAS + MBX). It is better to deploy multi-role Exchange servers, also virtual! You could install 2 multi-role servers and if the company growths, install another multi-role,
and so on. It's much more simpler, better and less expensive.
CAS-Array is only an Active Directory object, nothing more. The load balancer controls the sessions on which CAS the user will terminate. You can read more at
http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/03/05/load-balancing-in-exchange-2013.aspx Also there is no session affinity required.
First, build the complete Exchange 2013 architecture. High availability for your data is a DAG and for your CAS you use a load balancer.

Exchange 2010: Remove high available mailbox database error
Hello everyone,
I have a two node DAG exchange 2010 and recently split one mailbox database into two databases.
Now when removing the original database I get the following error:
Please provide specific details.
The following was done thus far:
Deleted all softdeleted items
this is not the default mailbox database
Suspended the second mail server and removed it from mailbox, leaving now just one mail server attached to the mailbox database.
HelpTry to check mailbox import request is there or no by this command. Get-MailboxImportRequest. If you can see any requests listed. Remove it by this command Get-MailboxImportRequest | Remove-MailboxImportRequest.
Thanks, MAS

Exchange Server 2010 - High Availability and Disaster Recovery - English (United States)
We have 2 Exchange 2010 servers and trying to setup HA/failover using DAG setup with DNS Round Robin
Both servers have mailbox, CAS and Hub roles. We are planning to configure DAG and then setup Network Balancing through DNS Round Robin by creating multiple A records for MX record on the external DNS and internal DNS with minimum TTL. My question is what
will happen to the emails in transit if one of the servers goes down ?
I hope this makes sense
Thank youHi,
Based on my knowledge, the message can still be delivered.
Let's look at the process for internal mail flow here:
1. Microsoft Exchange Mail Submission service
- Notifies a Hub Transport server role in the local Active Directory site when a message is available for retrieval from a sender’s Outbox
2. Store driver
- Retrieves messages from sender’s Outbox
4. Submission queue
- Stores all messages on disk until processed
5. Categorizer
- Processes one message at a time from the Submission queue
6. Store driver or Send connecotor
- Delivers the message to user mailbox if the mailbox is withing the site or in case if it is on remote server delivers the message through a Send connector.
In your case, the server suddenly goes down after you send message, the messages will be received at last.
When it comes to DNS round robin for CAS servers, we usually consider the Outlook connectivity. If one CAS connected fails, then Outlook will try to re-establish connectivity to the other IP address.

Exchange 2010 - Send Connector High Availability
Hi All,
I performed a successful migration a few years back from a single node Exchange 2003 server to a two node Exchange 2010 organisation with a DAG and Kemp load balanced CAS array. The solution works well and when we simulate a site failure
I am able to get the second node to handle all mail functions.
The one problem I have though is that I have to manually disable the send connector on the primary server in order for the one on the secondary server to be in use. I should explain that I have two send connectors as I do not want the secondary server
to be used unless the primary server is down or the route is unavailable. I realise that Exchange 2010 does not know whether the SMTP route is down or not so will just continue trying to use the send connector from the primary server (until I tell it
not to by disabling it).
My question is how do I get this to happen automatically? Does anyone else have an example of how this could be done or use a PowerShell script to achieve this? I guess a script could check the route and disable the send connector on the primary
server if necessary, but how would one do this?
Any help greatly appreciated.
RobHi,
According to your description, your secondary send connector cannot be automatically used when the first one is down. If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
If yes, I’d like to confirm if the settings of the secondary one is same with the first one and we can check the connectivity logs including diagnostic information for Healthy Server Selector.

We have Mobile Iron in the environment and we are seeing few timeout errors on MobileIron server and for users intermittently. They usually see below error... However we don't see any end users issues, but just want to get rid of below error. MobileIron guys
are pointing it to time-taken value which is high intermittently.

@BALAHi,
To understand more about the issue, I’d like to confirm the following information:
1. What’s your Exchange 2010 version?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2536517/en-us
2. Do you install other software, like SQL, on the same Exchange Server?
3. Change another admin account to access EMS.

Exchange 2010 task scheduled scripts not working if not logged on
Hi All,
I have done a script for Exchange 2010 and I would like to create a scheduled task for it.
I have followed the guidance of Mike Pfeiffer's blog.
http://www.mikepfeiffer.net/2010/02/creating-scheduled-tasks-for-exchange-2010-powershell-scripts/
However when I set the task as “Run whether user is logged on or not”, it only works if the user running the task is the administrator. The task is run with high privileges.
If I do it with a service account (local admin, exchange org admin) it works only when:
-You run the script for an interactive session of the user or a runas cmd
-You set the Task as “Run only when the user is logged on” (and the user is logged on)
If I run the Task as “Run whether user is logged on or not” and the user is not logged on, I get an error on the connection command "Connect-ExchangeServer -auto" (and the task hangs waiting for an answer). The transcript is as follows:
Transcript started, output file is C:\scripts\informes\pruebasconexion.Log.txt

Tip of the day #31:
Tab completion reduces the number of keystrokes required to complete a cmdlet. Just press the TAB key to complete the cmdlet you are typing. Tab completion kicks in whenever there is a hyphen (-) in the input. For example:
Get-Send<tab>
should complete to Get-SendConnector. You can even use wildcards, such as:
Get-U*P*<tab>
Pressing the TAB key when you enter this command cycles through all cmdlets that match the expression, such as the Unified Messaging Mailbox policy cmdlets.

UNICAN-SdeII experienced a similar symptom where the scheduled task was getting stuck in the "Running" state. I searched the web for others who have experienced this issue with scheduled tasks, and what I found is that there could be a few reasons why
this might happen.
I resolved my problem by adding -NonInteractive switch before the -command parameter.
Hope it helps...
In my case, -NonInteractive does indeed stop the task from getting stuck in a perpetual Running state (until it times out based on the settings in scheduled task), but I was able to deduce why by using Start-Transcript and Stop-Transcript.
Basically, the connection to Exchange is failing some reason and it sits at a prompt waiting for you to enter a FQDN for an Exchange server (same problem as the OP). Adding -NonInteractive to the scheduled task does indeed prevent the task from getting
stuck waiting for someone to enter a FQDN at a prompt that they cannot interact with, the script still does not execute correctly. Essentially, adding the "-NonInteractive" switch does not fix the underlying problem of the Exchange connection
failing.
As far as I am able to tell, this has something do with a WinRM problem. I'm having the same problem as the OP and am trying to troubleshoot it. In my case, deleting the user profile for the service account does not fix the problem. -
Can i use exchange 2010 in the mail(4.5)?
Can i use exchange 2010 in the mail(4.5)?
i can't use exchange 2010 in the mail (4.5),but i can use normally in the mail (3.6)。why?Of course you can use your iPhone in the rain but since devices are not waterproof, nobody in their right mind would recommend it. The risk is yours and an out-of-warranty repair might cost more than a few bucks.
I highly recommend you read this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3302
And some kind of a protective casing if you insist on using the device in the rain.

Exchange OWA does not load OWA for Exchange 2010 users
I have recently installed Exchange 2013 SP1 CU4 in my existing Exchange 2010 SP3 environment but when I use Exchange 2013 OWA to login Exchange 2010 users (it should automatically take the user to Exchange 2010 OWA) but I get this error message "Forbidden
403- Access is denied". However exchange 2010 users can login to their /ecp directory from exchange 2013. Exchange 2010 users can use OWA using their exchange2010/owa URL without any problems. We do not have any http or https redirection enabled
on any of the server. Also I have tried to uncheck the "Required SSL" settings for default web site on both Exchange servers but error is still same. Any help will be highly appreciated.Hi,
According to your description, your Exchange 2013 cannot proxy OWA request to Exchange 2010 server, but ECP request can work properly.
In this case, I'd like to confirm OWA and ECP settings on Exchange 2013 and 2010 servers before going further:

Exchange 2010 SP3 Create Dynamic DL for Direct Reports
I am not sure this is possible but if there is a will there is a way I guess.
System: Exchange 2010 SP3 on Windows Server 2008 R2
I am trying to see if there is a way to create dynamic DLs for Manager(s) direct reports.
Example: Manager has 5 people that report directly to them, is there a way to make an dynamic email distribution list that will poll the direct reports as people leave or hired.
I know I can create one manually but some depts. may have high turnover rates which increase overhead so I am just trying to simplify the process. I of course googled my question but not getting the results I intended.
Thanks.hi,
as from above i understand you are asking about creating an custom attribute and then referencing them .. if yes please check below command
Get-Mailbox -OrganizationalUnit Sales | Set-Mailbox CustomAttribute1 "SalesOU"Now you can create an e-mail address policy for all recipients that have the CustomAttribute1 property that equals SalesOU, as shown in this example.
New-EmailAddressPolicy -Name "Sales" -RecipientFilter { CustomAttribute1 -eq "SalesOU"} -EnabledEmailAddressTemplates "SMTP:%s%[email protected] check this.. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee423541%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx

Help needed with buggy Outlook 2013 and Exchange 2010 trashing profiles
Hi All,
I have a customer who has eschewed MOLP and buys all their Office OEM from Dell. So as a result they are starting to have more and more office 2013 be deployed. They have a SBS 2011 server with Exchange 2010 and it is patched to the latest
rollups and service packs. (SP3, RU2) Their Outlook 2010 and earlier clients are just peachy on this. But the Outlook 2013 clients are having problems.
What is going on is that periodically I'll get a complaint from a user that their Outlook 2013 is randomly crashing. In all cases the fix is going into the Outlook Profiles, creating a new profile, then setting the new profile as the default
and going back into Outlook 2013 and letting it rebuild the cached data on the PC. This seems to happen a few times a month with random users on the network.
I told the customer it was probably people not logging out of Outlook 2013 at night and their machines being power spiked but I think that's highly unlikely since it doesen't happen to the Outlook 2010 clients.
I don't know if any Microsoft developers read this but if you do, please take it back to your bug database. Any other suggestions would be appreciated (other than scotch Outlook 2013 - while I'd appreciate that, my customer wouldn't)In all cases the fix is going into the Outlook Profiles, creating a new profile, then setting the new profile as the default and going back into Outlook 2013 and letting it rebuild the cached data on the PC.
The Outlook 2013 crash problem would be fix after you re-create a new profile and re-sync the data from Exchange, right?
When we meet the same problem in next time, I suggest we run the Outlook Product Stability Diagnostic tool to isolate known causes of crashes in Outlook. The Outlook Product Stability Diagnostic also creates a diagnostic report outlining the data it collected
and recommendations on possible steps you can take to reduce or eliminate Outlook stability issues.
Please click the following link to run the Outlook Product Stability Diagnostic tool in the Microsoft Fix it Center Pro portal:

Forefront for Exchange 2010 - no mails in quarantine or incidents list
I have a client with Forefront 2010 installed on their exchange 2010 server. I see 45 messages that have been blocked as spam in the dashboard - 43 connection, 1 smtp and 1 content.
The client wants to know which messages are being blocked and which aren't, however when I open up the incidents and quarantine pages there is nothing there.
They have the antispam configuration set to stamp headers and continue for SCL5 to 9 and it seems to me that things should be in the quarantine.
I have all the logging options turned on and I've followed the other technet threads about this issue but none of those solutions seem to work on this machine.
If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it!Hi,
Firstly, please make sure if you have enabled the anti-spam filtering engine of FPE. If yes, please refer to the blog below:
Exchange Content Filter settings are ignored
Besides, please make sure you have installed all the released hotfix rollups for FPE. Please also make sure that you have enabled "Enable content filtering incident logging" in Advanced Options of Global settings.
You can deliver quarantined items to specified recipients and set emial notification.
In addition, only an Administrator can access/manage the quarantine of FPE.
Please also ensure that you haven't configured FPE to automatically purge quarantined in a short time.
FPE content filter uses the Cloudmark™ Antispam engine to analyze each e-mail message and stamp it with a SCL.
When the setting 5 – 9 is selected, all messages with a rating of 5 or higher are treated as suspected spam.
Messages with an SCL rating of -1 and 0 will be treated as non-spam. You have the option to Quarantine or Stamp header and continue processing mail with an SCL rating in the 5 – 9 range.
If the issue persists, you can adjust the SCL setting to a lower value to see if the issue persists.

Hi
We wish to introduce an Exchange 2013 server in our existing Exchange 2010 environment.
The Exchange 2013 server is only needed for migration purposes where we wish to leverage the new features of the migration-batch functionality.
It’s important that the Exchange 2013 server will not have any “visible” impact on the Exchange 2010 environment, or take over any functionality, right now, since the customer wish to stay on 2010.
Can you guys come up with anything to be aware of?
Oblivious we disable the Autodiscover SCP for the Exchange 2013 server, so that the clients will not hit this server. Nor will we point any URLs to the Exchange 2013
I can see that a new “Default Offline Address Book (Exch2013)” is created and set as default when EX2013 is installed. We will change this back to the default EX2010.
The server will properly take part in the Shadow Redundancy feature, and is doesn’t seem to be possible to exclude the server or avoid, unless disabling Shadow Reduncancy.
I can only come up with these 3 things that will have a "direct" impact on the environment, but any input will be highly appreciated!
BR,
MartinHi,
I agree with Li Zhen’s suggestion. If you don’t migrate from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, we can disable add services in Exchange 2013 and don’t use it any more.
If you want that the Exchange 2013 server will not have any “visible” impact on the Exchange 2010 environment, or take over any functionality, please keep the published server to pointed to Exchange 2010. Then the original configuration in Exchange 2010
would not be changed to the new configuration in Exchange 2013.
If you want to use Exchange 2013, then we can point the published server to Exchange 2013 and configure the virtual directories in Exchange 2013. Though all mailboxes are still located in Exchange 2010, all external requests would be proxy or redirected
from CAS 2013 TO CAS 2010 automatically.
