Exchange 2010 Hybrid

Good day
I have an Exchange 2010 SP3 hybrid environment with Azure DirSync.   I have migrated all my mailboxes and public folders to Office 365.   I have also decommissioned one of my Exchange 2010 servers and I have one last server which I would
like to decommission so that I'm on the full Office 365 suite.
What are the steps to remove the last Exchange server while still making use of DirSync to keep my AD sync'ed?   Should I upgrade the Exchange server to 2013?   If so, can I use a trial edition for this purpose?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Bradley

Hi bcjames,
I found some information from a related blog:
Move all mailboxes to Exchange Online, point all on-premise line of business applications, network devices and so on to Exchange Online, configures mail flow to go directly in and out of Exchange Online. In this scenario, you decommission all on-premise
Exchange servers, but still use DirSync and ADFS for federation. With DirSync, the on-premise Active Directory is the source of authority, which means you should provision users in the on-premise Active Directory and then have them synchronized to Office 365/Exchange
Online. In this cae, it’s usually a good idea to keep a single Exchange 2010 server on-premise, so you can use the Exchange 2010 EMC or cmdlets for the provisioning. Alternatively, you remove all Exchange 2010
servers and have an identity solution such as FIM provision the on-premise Active Directory objects with the required mail attributes in order for Exchange Online to treat them as mail enabled users. Bear in mind that with DirSync enabled, most user/mailbox
attributes in Exchange Online are read-only meaning you must write to them via the on-premise Active Directory user/group object.

  • Use Exchange 2010 Hybrid Edition for SMTP relay

    Thanks guys.
    hmmm.
I did try and telnet on port 25 to the hybrid and get the welcome, when i enter the mail from command and enter a valid email address, i get "530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated"
I have exchange 2003 admin experiance and and learning my way around the 365 environment still

    Hi all,
we recently moved our Exchange 2003 to Office 365 using a Hybrid Exchange 2010 to migrate the users.
the migration is complete and we have kept the Exchange 2010 Hybrid Edition running to enable us to mail enable new AD users after the DirSync has synchronized the user to the tenant.
has anyone used this limited version of Exchange as an smtp relay for network devices, copiers etc?

  • Ramifications of assigning a wildcard certificate to the SMTP service (needed for Exchange 2010 Hybrid Configuration - Office 365)

    Hello All:
I am receiving an error when I run the Manage Hybrid Configuration wizard - ERROR:Updating hybrid configuration failed with error 'Subtask NeedsConfiguration execution failed: Configure Recipient Settings. I have opened a SR, but figured I'd try the forums,
too. I have a wildcard certificate from GoDaddy (MS says they support wildcards from GoDaddy) & that cert has only the IIS service applied to it on the CAS. I've read in the Exchange Server Deployment Assistant that it should have the SMTP & IIS services
assigned to it, but my question is - SMTP on the CAS (separate server) or on the Mailbox/Hub Transport (separate server)? And what are the ramifications of assigning the SMTP service to, let's say, the CAS? We have had multiple issues every time the servers
get updated/changed; I do not want to disrupt services further, as the Manage Hybrid Configuration will be done during business hours.
If anyone can provide any assistance/clarification, it would be most appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
We can enable a Wildcard certificate with SMTP service for Exchange Hybird Deployment. The SMTP service can be assigned to multiple certificates. For some Exchange services such as OWA, Ecp, ActiveSync, Autodiscover service, OOF, it is used with Exchange
certificate with IIS service. And there is usually only one certificate can be assigned with IIS service.
Please just make sure your Wildcard certificate can contain all namespaces which are used for all internal URL and External URL configuration in Exchange services. About how to import an existing wildcard certificate on the Exchange 2010 Hybird servers,
please refer to the Import & Enable Third Party Certificate on Hybrid Servers

  • Migration From Exchange 2010 Hybrid to Exchange 2013 Hybrid Deployment

    hi,
I have existing Exchange Server 2010 Hybrid Deployment. Planning to migrate to Exchange 2013. However, while schema update, i am facing some errors/warnings as can be seen in attached screenshot.
I have already checked and current functional level in DC is Windows Server 2003. What could be the best steps to troubleshoot the problems and proceed further with Exchange 2013 installation?
    Thanks

I have existing Exchange Server 2010 Hybrid Deployment - Do you have Exchange 2010 and Office 365 in a
    hybrid setup now ?
Are you trying to upgrade your on premise Exchange 2010 servers to Exchange 2013 ?
Or Are you trying to migrate your on premise Exchange 2010 to a different forest to Exchange 2013 ?
You can try the below suggestions-

  • Office 365 to Exchange 2010 Hybrid Mail Box Migration

I'm working on setting up a pilot for Office 365. We have Exchange 2010 SP3, in a DAG configuration (two front end, and 2 mail box servers). I have setup the hybrid configuration. All firewall ports are open.
Problem 1: We can move mail boxes up to office 365 with out a problem. When we try to move them back we get

I know someone is going to say "Trun on IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults", please tell me how to do that. I'm not an exchange expert, or an IIS expert.
Problem 2: We can email to account in Office 365. Office 365 can't email to on-site exchange. We do have Mimecast as a spam filter, and I've been digging in that to see if that is a problem.
Just looking to see if anyone has an idea of thing to check for this.

    Fixed
    1. Connect to the Office 365 Portal http://portal.microsoftonline.com
    2. Click “Admin” in the upper left hand corner and go to “Exchange”
    3. Click “migration”
    4. Click “+” and then “Migrate from Exchange Online”
    5. Click “+”
    6. Add the users that you need to move back to Exchange on site at Dedicated Computing
    7. Click “next”
    8. Click “next”

  • FIM Outlook add-in w/ Exchange 2010 hybrid to O365

We have a hybrid Exchange environment with Office365.  I started noticing the "approve/deny" buttons provided by the Outlook FIM plugin no longer worked.  The error shown is "This request cannot be approved or rejected because it
was received from an unauthenticated sender."
What I figured out was my mailbox is in the cloud but the FIM service's mailbox is on-prem, so technically they are from different Exchange orgs and hence the sender is no longer validated since its like an external sender.
Has this scenario been seen by anyone else or addressed already by MS teams?  Is there any way to relax the security on the FIM plugin itself to not do this check as a workaround?  I checked through some reg keys and unfortunately didn't find any
    setting saying "VerifySender=NO"

This issue is resolved, and may not have been an unexpected behavior afterall.  After a full directory sync between the on-prem AD and O365, the addresses in the GAL appears normal and no longer showed the smtp address in brackets like it does for external
    senders.
there may have just been an inconsistency in the x500 / exchange addresses in the objects, so after a full sync cycle, its been fine, so this scenario should work no problem for others.

  • Exchange 2010 Hybrig configuration removal

Our Exchange environment currently consists of an Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010 SP3 hybrid server. We were looking at moving all mailboxes from our Exchange 2003 server to Office 365 via the Exchange 2010 Hybrid server. Due to business decisions,
we have stopped our Office 365 deployment and are moving all mailboxes back on premise. With this in mind, I am looking for some guidance on how best to approach this.
Once all mailboxes are moved back on premise, would it be better to re-license our Exchange 2010 server and remove the Hybrid configuration then move all remaining 2003 mailboxes to the 2010 server or, build a new 2010 SP3 server and decommission
    the Hybrid server.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I haven't found anyone who has gone this route before.
    Russ

If the current server has the horsepower required to host your mailboxes and the other roles, I'd use it.  No reason to add complexity if it's not required.  If this server is underpowered, though, I'd remove Exchange from it before I added the
new Exchange 2010 server.  This will allow you to have a smoother experience in your migration process.  If you have configured your organization for hybrid operations (including legacyExchange names on certificates, etc), you should be able to just
point these to your Exchange 2010 servers (instead of to the cloud) to support your migration.  Make sure these changes are done before you start adding active mailboxes to the Exchange 2010 server, whichever one it is you start using.

  • Certificates for Office 365 Hybrid Exchange 2010 Exchange Online v15

Certificates for Office 365 Hybrid Exchange 2010 Exchange Online v15
We need to set up a hybrid server to allow us to begin moving mailboxes to Exchange Online. We created a new Server 2012 R2 server with Exchange 2013 SP1 to act as our Hybrid server. Reading the literature leaves me with questions about what
certificates I need.  My understanding is that the certificates in play on the on-premise Exchange 2010 servers don't need to be changed.
I've looked at the TechNet article "Certificate requirements for hybrid deployments"
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh563848(v=exchg.150).aspx
Certificate requirements for the new Exchange 2013 SP1 server are still unclear to me, I think the new server needs a SAN certificate with:
    Hybridserver.domain.edu
    autodiscover.domain.edu
    EWS.domain.edu
    Can anyone clarify?

Cert is required only if you want to deploy ADFS for SSO.
Otherwise you can use your existing Cert for all the Services

  • Exchange Management Tools? Hybrid Exchange 2010 SP3 - Exchange 2013 (Office 365 - Exchange Online)

When running in Hybrid mode... is there any advantage to installing the Exchange 2013 server management tools on my machine versus the Exchange 2010 management tools?
    Any advantages/disadvantages?
I still do have some on premises mailboxes that need to be migrated to the cloud (Exchange Online).
    Thoughts? Suggestions? Experiences?

    Hi Viva,
We don't have Exchange Management Console in Exchagne 2013 in all the web interface we used in Exchange server 2013. In Exchange 2010 we are having Exchange management console. Hence we can able to access exchange 2010 and 2013 both on the same server.

  • Decommission Exchange 2010 but keep Hybrid Excahnge 2013

    All,
We have finished migrating all users from our Exchange 2010 server to Office 365. We will retain the Exchange 2013 server that was installed during the hybrid configuration for mailbox management, relaying etc. There are no plans to store any many locally
    on this server.
    Questions:
    1. Should the arbitration mailboxes be moved from the 2010 server to the 2013 server? Or can they be removed?
    2. Are there any other considerations that need to be taken into account before uninstalling the 2010 sever?
    Thanks

Yes, you should move the arbitration mailboxes - they are organizational mailboxes, not mailbox database mailboxes.
Make sure all Exchange resources and operations hosted on this server have been moved to your Exchange 2013 system before you remove Exchange from this server.  If you try to remove Exchange (in either the GUI or the command line) and something is
still using this server, you will be alerted that something is still using the server and will be told what it is.

  • Installing / Upgrading Exchange 2013 to Exchange 2010 with a o365 Hybrid environment

    Hi
I am trying to install a new server with Exchange  2013 on an environment with an existing Exchange 2010 Sp3. Reason for that is that I have a o365 hybrid environment and need to disconnect my on-line and on-premise e-mail connection. I want to completely
run all my mailboxes on o365 no-longer dependent on on-premise exchange but the Exchange 2010 doesn't have a functionality to 'dismantle' the hybrid.. we need to have exchange 2013.
When I try to install Exchange 2013 I get an error message that I need to upgrade my o365 tenant. : my o365 tenant version is : AdminDisplayVersion : 0.20 (15.1.49.12) :IsUpgradingOrganisation : False.
Is there a better way of updating my environment.

    Hi Darshana,
Since your question is more related to Office 365, I'd recommend you post it to the Office 365 Community forum:

  • Exchange 2010 EWS - app_global.asax-error.

Im setting up an Exchange Online deployment on a costumers server enviroment. They have a single Exchange 2010 SP3 with Rollup 6 installed.
The users started complaining that they couldnt set out-of-office messages in Outlook, and that they were prompted for Exchange password in Lync repeatedly.
Now, im not sure if these errors came because of the Hybrid setup of its a coincidence, but here is what Ive done:
I started the Hybrid Wizard, but this one got some errors, so it didnt complete on the first run. The error was the following:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2626696
    and I ran
    ServiceModelReg.exe –r
on the server to fix it. This solved this problem, but a new one occurred with publishing of Autodiscover and EWS online. I called it a day, and was busy the next day so this was left like this for a few days.
The next day a few users complained that they couldnt set out of office. The next day after that, the lync error occured (there was a reboot that night. Im not sure if thats relevat). The errors in the Hybrid-wizard had then been solved, and the Hybrid-wizard
ran through, but the EWS-problem remained.
Now, on the server I get this error every second or so:

    Hi,
I am glad to hear that issue solved by yourself.
Event 3 indicated that Exchange missed Anonymous authentication on autodiscover/EWS Virtual directories.
To solve this issue, please enable Anonymous authentication on autodiscover/EWS Virtual directories through IIS manager by the following steps:
    Open IIS manager.
    Navigate to Sites>Default Web Site>Autodiscover.
Refer to the following picture to choose Authentication, then double-click it. Try to enable Anonymous Authentication.
Repeat steps 1-3 to enable Anonymous authentication on EWS.
    Best Regards.

  • Exchange online and Exchange 2010 on-premise calendar availability

I am running a hybrid exchange 2010 on-premise and online exchange environment.  The online exchange users cannot see calendar availability of anybody on premise.  The on-premise users can see the online exchange availability.  I can see the
calendar if the calendar is shared, but trying to setup a meeting or calendar appointment still shows the unavailable through all days.
All of the users are using office 365 for outlook on premise and exchange online.  If it is only working one way, could it be an autodiscover issue where it is not configured correctly on our on-premise exchange 2010 or online exchange?  Which
side would be causing the issue?
