Exchange 2010 masquerade from a non-authoritative domain

I have several sendmail servers who send mails as coming from their host names(hostname.localhost). I would like to have exchange change this to the exchange mail domain then send to the exchange users
Is there a way to setup masquerading for this?
thanks for your time
-Steve

Hi Steve,
According to description, I understand that you want to change the domain name to Exchange mail domain for inbound message.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Do you have install Edge server in your environment? If so, we can enable Address Rewrite Agent and configure Address Rewrite Entry to achieve your goal.
In Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, address rewriting enables you to modify the addresses of senders and recipients on messages that enter and leave your Exchange 2010 organization. More details about Address Rewriting, for your reference:

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade Exchange 2010 SP2 from SP1, but Transport service does not start automatically.
Tried manually start services, it started successfully but again goes down within few seconds automatically.
    Reboot server. but no luck.
    Any help.

    Hi,
I recommend you use event viewer to check if there are any relate event logs. This may help us to find the cause.
In addition, as Amit mentioned, Exchange 2010 SP2 isn't supported by Microsoft, I think upgrading to SP3 is a much more sensible approach.
    Thanks.

  • Move Exchange 2010 Server from AD Server to a new Member Server

    Hi All,
I would like to get some suggestion on a particular task which i have presently , In my organisation i have a Exchange Server 2010 installed on Win2008 R2 DC (FSMO role Holder), also i got a ADC on Win2003 R2 Server for the same Domain , My
task is to move Exchange 2010 from DC to a new Member server without loosing mail boxes and present configuration  ,Kindly guide me with the steps to achieve this task easly
    Thanks & Regards
    Sameer

Hi Sameer and thanks for posting. Its good that you are moving exchange server from DC, because installing exchange server on DC its not recommended. To get the job done: 1.Install exchange server on the new Member server. (You can spread the roles on
the different servers if you are in the enterprise level organization.) 2.Create MailBox Databases according to your management style. 3.Move the mailboxes from DC server to the new Exchange server. 4.Move System Mailboxes to New server. 5.I would move FSMOs
to the ADC and shut down the old exchange for a week. 6.If everything was alright uninstall old exchange and move FSMOs back. I hope this helps. Farhad

  • Remove Exchange 2010 DC from single server environment coexisting with Exchange 2013

My new Exchange server (2013) has completed all the migration steps including public folders. Mail is working well.  I do not use the old DC running Exchange 2010 for any local domain logins or computer control, it is strictly for OWA as is my new Exchange
2013.  I went through the uninstall of Exchange 2010 with out error but cancelled it after it said it was ready to uninstall. When I shut down Exchange 2010 server mail no longer is available.  What am I missing? I am using same Public IP and different
private (192.168.1.4 new EXchange 2013, 192.168.1.7 for Exchange 2010) I changed these settings in my asa Firewall and that is working with new settings as well.  Send and Receive connectors are on new while old one have been deleted.  Do my MX records
need to be updated to reflect new server (ex2) as opposed to old server name (ex)?
You can come to Maui for a "Site Inspection" lol!
    System Admin

    Hi
You need to make sure all your DNS settings are correct with the new server IP as well as autodiscover. Remove any routing connectors between exchange 2010 and 2013.
Not best practice to run exchange on a DC but if you comfortable you have migrated all system mailboxes, user mailboxes and that the settings on your new server match the old one then proceed with the uninstall.
Your ISP will obviously route mail to your firewall as you are doing the NAT from there.

  • Exchange 2010 Provisioning from OIM 11g

I am having trouble provisioning to Exchange 2010. The error I am receiving is "Empty Arguments Passed in either Root Context,Admin FQDN,Admin Password,Server Address,Port Number in the IT Resource." I don't recall setting any of these parameters as part of the Exchange IT Resource. Do these come from the AD IT Resource or some Lookup object that I have missed? During the request I only specified AD Server, Mail Store and Mail Alias.
    Thanks,
    Pete

Check the values in ADITResource. Yes these come from ADITResource.

  • Restore exchange 2010 mailbox from database and restore the mailbox to pst file

    Hello,
I'm running exchange 2010Sp2 rollup5 ver2, the mailbox database in question is in a DAG.  The databases are being backed up by commvault.
So, I received a request to restore a couple mailboxes from 10 days ago and export the mailbox to PST file for archiving.
How would you go about the restore.  I'm thinking the database needs to be offline, so I don't mistakenly overwrite my production databases.
Where should backup guy restore the database/log file (completely separate server from my mailbox servers?)
Once database/logs are restored, what is the procedure to make the mailboxes visible
Once the mailboxes are visible, what is best way to restore one to a PST file?
thanks in advance for all your help.

    Hi
For DB Restores with commvault you have to reed the product documantation.
The Database must not be offline.
I would recommend to try the following steps:
    1. Create Recovery DB on Exchange
    http://terenceluk.blogspot.ch/2013/06/restoring-mailbox-from-exchange-2010.html
    2. Restore to this Recvovery DB from Commvault
    (Commvault Administration Guide)

  • Move Exchange 2010 SP2 from Physical to Virtual

I am currently running Exchange 2010 on a server which is hugely underutilised so am hoping to virtualize Exchange and other servers on this machine.
What is the best way to move/convert Exchange?
I will require this machine to be reinstalled with Server 2008 R2 server core to run only Hyper-V.
I thought of backing up (to multiple locations, just in case!!), reinstalling the server with core + Hyper-V, then restoring the backup to a new VM.
Or should I use the Sysinternals Disk2vhd tool first. Convert to VHD, then reinstall server with core and add the VHD as a new VM?
The Exchange databases and logs are on a separate RAID 5 array which would be left untouched so would making this disk available to the Exchange VM would allow it to continue where it left off after the server was restored from backup to the new VM?
I also read it is not recommended to use P2V tools with Exchange, but since I am required to reinstall the machine what choice do I have? In that case should I install Exchange on another server, move all databases and users to that server, reinstall old server,
install Exchange VM, then move all databases and users onto the new VM?
The more I think about this, the more my head spins, so any insight is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • RE: Remove a CAS/HUB Exchange 2010 server from AD

    Hello everybody,
i've an Exchange organisation that is composed of:
    2 cas/hub servers in an array (cas1, cas2),
    1 hub/fsw server (fsw)
    2 MBX servers in a DAG (ex1, ex2)
one day i've decided to add an additional cas server (cas3) but some days later it falls down.
So i've decided to uninstall it from AD but i've deleted cas3 computer acccount from AD by mistake some days before. i want to uninstall this
exchange server from AD, i've tried to recover it in order to do clean remove but not successfully.
Please advise me, i really need help!!

The best available option you have at this point of time is to remove the server manually.
    http://www.exchangeranger.com/2012/03/manually-uninstalling-exchange-server_01.html
No need to go for PSS support at this point of time, I am sure they will give the same as best available option as your objective is to remove the server.

  • Exchange 2010 accepted domain and email address policy

So I need some help as to which accepted domain is right for us. We are a single forest single domain that is subbed to a parent domain.
    sub.domain.com
We run our own exchange 2010 separate from domain.com.  We want all mail to show up as @domain.com for our users.  The @domain.com will be configured to forward to @sub.domain.com.  This is free Linux mail server that is separate from us.
In order to configure an email address policy for @domain.com I need to pick from the 3 types.  I am pretty sure we are not authoritative for @domain.com (they are the parent).  So it is either an internal relay or external relay.  We all
use the same networking, and our DNS servers point to domain.com as forwarders and they host a secondary copy of our DNS.
It is a little unclear as to which to use.  I have gone to each account individually to test, and that works perfectly, but I would like to set this Globally.
    Thanks
    Tim

  • Message looping between Exchange 2003 & Exchange 2010 after domain type changed to internal relay

    Hi
We have a coexistence environment where we are currently migrating from Exchange 2003 to 2010 and have 80% of the users already on the Exchange 2010 platform. This is all within the same AD forest, let's call it FOREST1.AD.
The problem I'm seeking help about is a message routing problem we had this morning where messages bound for the Exchange 2003 users started looping between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010. The problem started as a result of changing the accepted domain
type to 'internal relay domain' for the purposes of establishing SMTP namespace sharing with an external Exchange environment (different forest, let's call it FOREST2.AD). The expectation was that after changing the domain type from authoritative to 'internal
relay domain', Exchange 2010 would route messages for unknown recipients to the external environment and that would be the only effect of the change. The message routing to the external environment worked completely OK. However, later we noticed that Exchange
2003 stopped delivering messages to its local users and started routing them to Exchange 2010 which would route the messages back to Exchange 2003 as that's where the recipients existed, only to have Exchange 2003 send them back to Exchange 2010 again.
The Send connector to route the messages, for the shared namespace, to the external environment used the Exchange 2010 server as the source server. It makes sense and is expected that Exchange 2003 would send messages for any unknown recipients to Exchange
2010 for onward delivery via the Send connector. But it is not expected for Exchange 2003 to not deliver messages to its own users using the store driver and instead routing them on to Exchange 2010.
We fixed the problem by reversing the change and not only changed the domain type back to authoritative but also removed the Send connector for the specified shared namespace. However, we do need to understand why this problem happened and how to stop it
    from happening.
We did test the shared SMTP namespace configuration using a test domain before applying the change to the domain that is used for production email traffic. Test users on Exchange 2003 with email addresses on the test domain did not experience this looping
problem. This has been tested again after the production domain experienced the problem and there is no looping for the test domain. The only difference I noticed between the configuration for the test domain and the production domain is that while both domains
existed as accepted domains of type 'internal relay domain' in Exchange 2010, there was a difference in configuration in Exchange 2003 where the test domain was not present on the recipient policy at all and the production domain was present there.
This also makes me wonder if Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010 in the same organization keep a separate configuration to determine which domain they are authoritative for. When you install Exchange 2010, it does add all the domains on the recipient policies
to the accepted domains configuration but any new domains you add in accepted domains in Exchange 2010 are not added to the legacy recipient policy object.
Can someone please help clarify these grey areas and explain why the message looping was created and how to avoid it. I'm happy to provide any further information.
    Thanks
    Nauman.

Why do you want to use the 'internal relay domain' authentication?

  • Removing old exchange 2003 routing groups from Exchange 2010.

I have migrated over to Exchange 2010(server2008) from Exchange 2003(SBS2003). I've also already run the uninstall for exchange 2003 on the old SBS 2003 server. The old server itself is still running but exchange has been removed and once I get this fixed
I plan to fully remove the old SBS server.
I now get event ID 5020 and 5006 throughout the day on the new server. From what I've read, this happens because the old routing group connectors still exist.
    If I run Get-ExchangeServer I get

Am I correct in assuming that the way to fix this now is to go into ADSI edit and delete records under CN=First Administrative Groups? As in delete CN=Routing Groups and CN=Servers and everything under both of those? I'd try this myself but I'm not aware
of any way to restore those records easily if I'm wrong.

Get-RoutingGroupConnector shows nothing. As for the servers group. It has the old server under it as shown in the image I posted above. That's actually what stops me from just deleting it because other guides have said not to delete it if an old server
    is listed.
Is the SBS2003 server listed because I haven't ran DCPROMO to remove it from the network yet? I am planning to do this but was waiting till I cleaned up all the errors before transferring the 5 FMSO roles and running DCPROMO on the old server.
DCPROMO isn't related to this, no.
So you removed Exchange already? How? With setup? It should have removed the Exchange Server object then.
It is supported to remove Exchange 2003 manually if required with adsiedit:

I have deleted all the mailboxes, distribution groups, contacts, etc. but I am still unable to uninstall one database. When trying to delete the last database I get following error message:
The mailbox database 'Mailbox Database 2105185066' cannot be deleted.

If I run command "Get-Mailbox -Database "Mailbox Database 2105185066" -Arbitration | ft -Wrap -Auto", I get following result:

I suspect it is because of these "maiboxes" why I am unable to delete the database.
If I run command "Disable-Mailbox SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9} -Arbitration -DisableLastArbitrationMailboxAllowed ", I get following error message:

Do you have any ideas how to delete the last database and uninstall the last Exchange 2010 server properly from the organization?

    Hi,
I agree with Martina. This should be solved somehow without need to use ADSI Edit.
Martina, I did run the command you suggested (Get-mailbox -arbitration | disable-mailbox -DisableLastArbitrationMailboxAllowed), but unfortunately here is the result:
The operation couldn't be performed because object 'Company.local/Users/SystemMailbox{e0dc1c29-89c3-4034-b678-e6c29d823ed9}' couldn't be found on 'DC.Company.local'.
        + CategoryInfo          : InvalidData: (Company.local/U...8-e6c29d823ed9}:MailboxIdParameter) [Disable-Mailbox], ManagementObjectNotFoundException
        + FullyQualifiedErrorId : 63BA19E1,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.DisableMailbox
The operation couldn't be performed because object 'Company.local/Users/FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a95fa1e042' couldn't be found on 'DC.Company.local'.

Connection between the Exchange server and the Domain Controller (DC.Company.local) is working.
