Exchange 2010 NDR Message

Hi All,
i am having parent and child domain scenario in my organization. My parent domain name is xyz.com whereas my child domain is me.xyz.local.
On my parent domain Exchange 2007 is running and is responsible to recieve emails for xyz.com.
On my child domain Exchange 2010 is running and is responsible to recieve emails for me.xyz.com.
Now the problem which i am facing is whenever my users in child domain getting NDRs message in the From filed it is showing "Microsoft Outlook" but when i double click on Microsoft Outlook it shows me [email protected] instead of @me.xyz.com.
Can anyone please let me know what configuration are needed so that my child domain users will get ndrs message from @me.xyz.com instead of @xyz.com whereas my parent domain users continue to receive ndrs emails from @xyz.com.
Thanks & Regards,

Is this a problem? The Display Name is set to Microsoft Outlook and users aren't going to reply to it anyway right?
The config is described here and set at the org level:

In a mixed client environment, mostly Outlook 2010 & 2013 clients. Only Outlook 2013 clients (about only 4 mailboxes) are receiving this error immediately after sending an email. My temp band-aid at the
moment is to: from the client, go into the "address book" & select a different address book like "Contacts" & then select the address again & select the Global Address List, which is the default. (it will have the users email
+ at the beginning of the field, it reads, Global Address List - (email of the user), then I close Outlook & open it back up, & the problem is solved. But on some mailboxes, not all, the issue comes back. From my research, I know that our individual
mailboxes do not send out over 500 emails in one day. Most users will send out maybe 20 or 30 in one day, so I don't think it's that.
But I'm not sure if this is related, but I have noticed that the log files for the Exchange 2010 seems to only hold logs with date stamps of only a couple of days. It used to hold log files indefinitely until they were archived, deleted, etc. So, this is
a new, unusual issue I have seen as well.
We have 2 .edb's, one active: 78 GB's and one disabled at 7 GB's. Exchange 2010 is running on Windows Server 2008 r2, Enterprise Ed. We have had Exchange 2010 running now for about almost 2 years now and this is the first time this particular issue has come
    up.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can refer to the following steps to rebuild an Offline Address Book.
    1. Open EMS. Update OAB using the Update-OfflineAddressbook "offline address book" cmdlet. Restart Background Intelligent Transfer Service on the Mailbox server.
    2. Initiate OAB replication from mail box server to CAS server. Execute for each CAS server using the Update-FileDistributionService "CASServerName" cmdlet.
    3. Start Outlook and download OAB.
What's more, here is an article for your reference.

  • Exchange 2010 - PerfMon - Messages Queued for Delivery = 2,147,483,649

Our monitoring system is alerting Messages Queued for Delivery as 2 Billion messages and the value returned by PerfMon > MSExchangeTransport Queues > Messages Queued for Delivery also matches this number during some samples.
I was wondering, what's going on here. When checking queues using Get-Queue cmdlet it doesn't show more than couple of messages in the queue.
How do I get this fixed? This seems to be a known issue from thread http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ac121f02-4359-4d18-b86a-9c9c78b320a9/perfmon-messages-queued-for-delivery-2147483764?forum=exchange2010
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi ChaituNanl,
    Thank you for your question.
By our search, I suggest we update Exchange to Exchange 2010 CU6 or later, because problem also seem to appear to Exchange CU5 or former.
We could download the CU by the following link:

  • Exchange 2010 - Accepting Messages Above the Attachment Size Limit

Recently we implemented a new Exchange 2010 server in a site. This site is in another country with very poor WAN connectivity.  Our standard attachment limit is 50MB (51200 kb) .
Since we have put this server in place I am seeing messages get stuck in the queue that are above the 50MB limit.
What I am confused about is how are they making it there, why is Exchange accepting them?  I have checked all the connectors, they are all appear to be set correctly.
What I also notice is these messages sit in the queue and get error:
421 4.4.2 Connection dropped due to ConnectionReset
    Any ideas?

Consider applying an enterprise limit by using Set-TransportConfig -MaxSendSize -MaxReceiveSize.

  • Can someone explain Exchange 2010 intersite message routing to me?

    Greetings,
We are about remove our legacy routing group connectors and I want to ensure that I really understand how message routing in Exchange 2010 works. I understand that Exchange uses AD IP Site Links to determine best path unless an actual Exchange costs is assigned.
We have three sites A-B-C with Exchange resources. We have a DAG that spans sites and A and B. I have reviewed our AD IP site topology and noticed there is no direct IP site link between site and A and C. When a user is active in site A and emails a user
in site C, I would expect the message to be routed through site B first.
However, after reviewing the message logs i can see that the HT server in site A sends it directly to HT server in site C. So I guess i don't fully understand message routing. If there is no IP Site link between site A and C how and why does this work? No
    Exchange Costs are assigned.
    Thanks much!

    Its transitive
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998825(v=exchg.141).aspx
By default, all site links are transitive. This means that if Site A has a link to Site B, and Site B has a link to Site C, Site A is transitively linked to Site C. The transitive link between Site A and Site C is also known as a
    site-link bridge.

  • CUCM 10.5.1 and Exchange 2010 Unified Messaging (UM) SIP Trunk Problem

This is more a comment if you're migrating from a lower version to 10.x.  Hopefully Google will pickup this post so others don't spend too much time (I got lucky and found this in about 30 minutes).
There are many more SIP options than in the past.  If you configured your integration as per the integration doc, all settings are relevant, however there are some new defaults that need to change.
SYMPTOM: Dialing another number or AA pilot and being redirected internally works, but the call drops on calls from external phones.  Exchange logs an Event ID 1079 from UMCore and also informational 1084 and 1172 events.  A capture yields a status 200 OK, then an ACK, two BYEs and a status 481 that the call leg does not exist.  The call is then dropped.
    RESOLUTION:
In the SIP Trunk, modifiy the following:
Device Information. . . Check Media Termination Point Required.  I've had some that have needed this checked and some where I needed to leave unchecked.  In this case going from 7.1 to 10.5 necessitated enabling.
Call Routing Information. . . SIP Privacy:  Need to change from Default to None.
Any comments how the SIP Privacy might affect security and functionality would be appreciated.

Just to inform everyone. I rebuilt the edge server from scratch.
Now everything is working as expected.
I cannot work out how the edge was not passing on calls to exchange or not communicating correctly with exchange.
    Anyway it is resolved now.

  • Exchange 2010/Outlook 2011 woes

A cautionary tale for anyone thinking of upgrading to an Exchange 2010 server. I have been working successfully with Mail/iCal/Address Book on an Exchange 2007 for over a year. My hosted exchange provider offered a free upgrade to Exchange 2010, and I decided to purchase Office 2011 to use Outlook. Big mistake. Now I am stuck with the following issues:
    1. Mail has an incompatibility with Exchange 2010 - sent messages lack a "From:" field in the raw message source (see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12591913)
    2. My hosted Exchange provider also has a Blackberry Enterprise server. But when you file sent messages in Outlook 2011, they fail to appear in the corresponding Blackberry subfolders - they disappear from the main message list and then do not appear in the subfolder. Received messages file with no problems - sent ones don't. Very weird, and very annoying. Sent messages filed in subfolders via Outlook Web Access appear properly on the BB handheld.
    3. Time zones in Outlook 2011 conflict with the Exchange server. Adding an appointment via the Blackberry, the appointment initially appears in the correct place, then a few seconds later, jumps an hour forward. Quitting Outlook on the desktop machine solves the problem... Outlook has Sydney as GMT+11, which is incorrect. It is GMT+10, but with an extra hour for daylight saving in summer. The server settings, as displayed on Outlook Web Access, correctly show Sydney as GMT+10.
As a result, I am now stuck using Outlook web access as my only reliable mail/calendar application, with all the limitations that that entails (no recall of previously used email addresses for example). And I will now have to wait for either a new version of Outlook, or a new version of Mail...
Any other users experiencing any of these issues?
    Thanks in advance.

I'm in the middle of a PC -> Mac migration and have hit a lot of snags with Exchange 2010.
All clients are running 10.6.4. Mail and Contacts seem to be working properly. iCal however is very problematic. When attempting to add shared calendars through the delegation tabs of Account Settings I am able to find the accounts, add them to the delegate list, but the client is not able to grab any calendar data.
I've got another issue which is Outlook 2011 font sizes being way to small for my older users, and the inability to separate shared calendars by color. In the past admin assistants were able to separate all the calendars of the attorneys they support by color and in columns, using Exchange 2007 for PC. Now the only way to distinguish between calendars is by selecting the calendar you want to see from the calendar list on the left, causing the calendar events to highlight with a darker shade of the default gray all shared calendars are assigned.
The fonts are a whole separate issue which I've researched exhaustively and found nothing to indicate that there is any way to fix this currently. The older users have on their own gone about decreasing their screen resolution and increasing the default font size at the system level.
Is there any support avenue within MS to or Apple to help with this? Apple has been useless, I've tapped into the Apple Consultants Network and they too are unaware of how to resolve these issues. Does MS have a support vein for Outlook 2011 users on an Exchange 2010 server?

  • Poor Audio Quality From Exchange 2010 UM

    Hi,
I'm experiencing an issue with our Exchange 2010 Unified Messaging system in that the audio quality is suddenly rather poor.  We are using Cisco Callmanager 7 for our phone system.  When you call an automated attendant, hit the "messages"
button or call the extension to go to voicemail, the audio you hear "crackles," or sounds like it is skipping slightly in that there are brief but noticable interruptions in the audio.
The audio quality issue only occurs when you are connected to voicemail or automated attendants, but not when conversing to other people on phone calls, so that leads me to believe either some interoperability between CM and Exchange UM is malfunctioning, or
just something in UM is a problem.  Also, if you listen to voice messages through the computer instead of over the phone, the quality is fine.  The problem seems to be mainly with calling in to the UM system.
What can I do to properly troubleshoot this?  I have found the Exchange 2010 UM Troubleshooting Assistant, but I have to wait another 2 weeks before I can install Service Pack 1 due to downtime window restrictions.  I'm not coming up with a lot of
documentation involving this, so if anyone has any information they think might help me get to the bottom of this I would apprecaite it.
    Thank you.

Cisco Callmanger and UM are on the same LAN.
I highly doubt that QoS is the culprit here, simply because there aren't any issues with phone calls.  If QoS was dropping VOIP packets, then IP phone to IP phone calls would also have poor audio quality.  If I call somebody on another IP
phone on the LAN, the audio quality is perfect.  It is only when you are connected to the UM system that you hear the poor audio quality -- either listening to voicemail prompts, listening to actual voicemails, listening to the automated attendant --
anything in which UM is on one end of the phone call.
It also seems strange that this is somewhat intermittent.  When the issue first occurred, it was definitely happening every time you called in to the UM system and I could repeat the issue by simply pushing my messages button and listening to the welcome
and prompt for a PIN.  I restarted the Exchange server at night, and the next day it was intermittent with people calling the help desk to say they were getting poor audio quality from UM but when I tried to repeat the issue I could not.
I also have users complaining of intermittent slowness when using Outlook, which may be totally unrelated.  I have been running Perf logs on the Exchange server for the last couple of weeks othe CPU, Network Connections, Exchange RPC totals, etc.
and can't find anything that is using too many resources.

  • Exchange 2010 to 2013 Co-Existence Reverse DNS Issue

We are running a Exchange 2010 and 2013 coexistence.  Mail Flow is fine on the 2013 side, but for mailboxes still on 2010, some are getting mail delivery failures only for certain external addresses.  One of the deliveries says the Sending IP
does not have a valid rDNS.  The IP Address it sent back is the main Public IP and not the Public IP assigned to our mail servers.  Not understanding why the 2013 mailbox users can send to these external addresses no problem when 2010 mailbox users
are being routed through 2013.  Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
According to your post, I understand that account in Exchange 2010 deliver message failed for certain external addresses, however the user in Exchange 2013 works fine.
If I misunderstand your concern, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Whether all user in Exchange 2010 or some special account experience this question?
If this issue only occur on some specific external address, please contact its administrator to double confirm the configuration of anti-spam filter.
Besides, I recommend run Message tracking log and Protocol log to check the deliver process. More details about “Analyzing the protocol logs and Message tracking logs in Exchange 2013”:

  • 550 5.7.1 NDR's as mail volume from IIS Virtual SMTP server to Exchange 2010 increases

We have a virtual win 2008 server that has a Virtual SMTP server running via IIS. A separate application on this server drops emails in the pickup directory to forward to our Exchange 2010 environment and this works fine. The odd issue is that as the volume
of messages being dropped in the pickup directory increases to over around 500 per minute we see a huge increase of bounced emails ending up in badmail directory on this server. The NDR we receive from our exchange environment states the following
550 5.7.1 Anonymous clients does not have permissions to send as this sender
As soon as we throttle this application the issue stops. And the same emails that bounced can be resubmitted with no issues
This particular virtual SMTP instance sends to only a handful of mailboxes in our organization, but it does send a lot of messages
We currently have a receive connector for all internal relay servers, and this server is called out in the accepted IP range and the message rate is sent to unlimited. Here are the edited version of the details of one of the internal relay receive connectors
on one of our hub transport servers. Is there something we have setup on the these connectors that might be causing this?

Just to clarify, this is not a pickup directory on an Exchange server but on a Windows 2008 server running an SMTP Virtual server in IIS 6.0. The problem happens only when the message volume from this server to Exchange increases to over ~500 messages a
minute. When that happens the messages get bounced from Exchange with the following info in the NDR
550 5.7.1 Anonymous clients does not have permissions to send as this sender
If we resubmit all the bounce messages at a lower volume per minute we do not see the issue. I'm still working on replicating the issue now that we have logging turned up on the receive connectors.
In addition some messages are being bounced with the following NDR message
    554 5.6.0 Invalid message content
These messages are always between 65-70KB and have around 200 recipients
In the Exchange receive logs for the receive connector for these messages we see the following message (with different sizing)
A parsing error has occurred:MIME content error:
    Singletext value size
    (32781)exceeded allowed maximum
    (32768).
The messages dropped in this pick-up  directory can be anywhere from 1KB to 10MB, so it's not that it's viewing each batch as a single email but something different with this particular email. I've tried searching for where to increase this MIME value
but can't find out where it is stored in Exchange.

  • Exchange 2010 - Report NDRs with powershell

    Hi all,
I would like to analyze all internal NDRs within my exchange environment. For example we have systems which are hard coded with email addresses of internal recipients and people leave the business and their mailbox and associated email address will be removed
from exchange but not from a third party system that has a list of addresses to send notifications out to or home grown scripts. In order to keep the email pipeline clean and follow best practices I would like to catch these NDRs and remove them from the relevant
    systems.
Is there anyway I can do this with powershell, my environment Exchange 2010 SP2 and all the roles are on a single server.

    Hi Niko,
I have just performed the following test:
sent an email to an internal recipient were the address does not exist, example
    [email protected]
The NDR does not come from [email protected]
The headers for the NDR I got as listed below:
    MIME-Version: 1.0
    From: Microsoft Outlook
     <[email protected]>
    To: <[email protected]>

  • Unified Messaging Exchange 2010 with Jabber

Is anyone aware of a way to have Jabber integrate with Exchange 2010 for voice-mail?
I have CUCM trunked to the server, the calls are going to the server and you can leave a voice mail and phone MWI lights up.
I have the voice-mail icon on the jabber client and when I press it, it goes to the voice mail box.
The issue is that it says its not connected, and when people leave a voice-mail, Jabber does not indicate you have a message.
    We are running CUCM 9.1, CUPS 9.1, Jabber4W 9.7
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Phil

Jabber for windows 9.7; only supports VMREST voicemail access. The only option for this is unity connection 8.5 and above. Connection to Exchange 2010 form of unified messaging (voicemail service through exchange server alone) is not supported.
    Please refer to the following link;

Turns out that unity came back after all this. Maybe it just needed time. I think I answered my own question.  Anyways, this post could serve for future reference.
