Exchange 2010 - Offline Address Book and Global Address List Issue!

I don't think I'm going crazy but cant find out why this is happening?
When I search the Address book in cached mode (OAB) in outlook for "Jackie W"
I get a number of users which include "Jackie W***"
but some are "Jackie K***" or "Jackie B***"
but their Office is set to "Westminster"
But this is the strange part when I search on the address book with Cached mode disabled (GAL) I only get users with Surnames begging with
"W" so only "Jackie W***" show up and if I just type in "Westminster" I get users form that location! but not a mix like on the OAB! Also when using the OAB if I type
"Jackie West" it brings up the Jackie from Westminster but this dose not happen when using the GAL because there is no
"Jackie West" in the Address book?
To my knowledge the OAB is just a Copy of the GAL that updates every 24 hours, and should be the same (give or take a few starters and leavers in the last 24 hours) and should pull up the same information when searching is this correct or am I going crazy!

Hi MattE,
Does it happen for each Outlook profile you have, from every user account which is on Cached Mode.
A.If not then I believe OAB copy is either corrupted or Out of date.
Checking it on OWA would confirm the actual GAL data.(Similar to Online Exchange)
Client side update runs by default at Startup and every 24hrs , if skipped it will wait for next day or manual update.
1.In Outlook 2010, select the File tab in the upper left corner, then Download Address Book from the Account Settings drop down menu.
Outlook 2007 users should select Tools from Outlooks uppermost menu, then Send/Receive and Download Address Book from the Tools drop down menus.
2.The Offline Address Book window will appear. Make sure the following options are selected:
##De-check the Download changes since last Send/Receive option
##Make sure Full Details is selected
##Make sure the \Global Address List is selected from the Choose address book drop down menu
Q: How frequently is the offline address book updated on the Outlook client?
A: If left constantly running, Outlook in cached mode automatically updates the offline address book on the client every 24 hours. The 24-hour time period is measured from the time that the offline address book was last downloaded successfully. For example, if you complete an offline address book download at 09:00 today, Outlook will start the offline address book download the next day at approximately 09:00. Therefore, different people will receive updates at different, random times.
Note The default setting on the Exchange computer is to generate an offline address book differential file every morning at 04:00. For a change that is made in Active Directory to reach the client computer, the following events must occur:•The change must be picked up by the Exchange computer that generates the offline address book files. This can take several hours. At worst, it can take 24 hours. This variable will be referred to as "x."
•The Outlook clients must download the offline address book updates every 24 hours. This update can take several hours. At worst, it can take 24 hours. This variable will be referred to as "y."
The update reaches the client machines x+y hours later. It would be rare for a client to ever experience a 48-hour delay or more unless there were some Active Directory or public folder replication issues.
B.If yes, then there is a issue with OAB generation, that needs further troubleshooting depending on the distribution structure used Public Folder based or EWS.
• Try following:
EMC > Organization configuration > Mailbox > Offline address book.
Then right click on "Default offline addressbook" and select properies.
Click on "Distribution" tab, and untick "Enable public folder distribution". Click "Apply" and "OK"
Update the Address Book. Let replication finish.
Now go back to same location and tick "Enable public folder distribution" back again. Click "Apply" and "OK".

I want to delete all the cards in personal address book and collected address, so I delete all of them, but when I reboot thunderbird, they all came back.

Select Help/Troubleshooting Information, click Show Folder to open the profile folder in your OS's file manager, exit TB, delete (or move to another location) abook.mab (Personal Address Book) and history.mab (Collected Addresses). When you restart TB, you should have empty PAB and CA address books.

  • Mail address book and my Address Book.app are different

I tried to delete Plaxo. Now when I access my address book from Mail, I don't have the 3rd column containing phone numbers, addresses, etc. However my AddressBook.app has all that information, but it doesn't work with Mail. I click on an address with the app and it doesn't go to my To: line.
I'm still seeing Plaxo in the 3rd column on some addresses. How do I get rid of Plaxo completly?

Yes, thanks. I had already done that. Did all that Mac instructions mentioned. All the nooks and crannies and did a search for Plaxo....still there.

  • I want to make a new "Address Book" in Thunderdird's Address Book in addition to "Personal Address Book" and "Collected Addresses"

Is there a way in Thunderbird's Address Book to create additional collections of addresses, say "Professional Colleagues", in the same pane as "Collected Addresses" and "Personal Address Book". In other words, these latter two collections of addresses appear to be the default. Can I add additional collections?

    Open address book window
From the menu bar select File-New-Address Book
No menu bar? Press the alt key.

  • 3G IPod nano won't sync with Address Book and iCal

I connected my new 3G iPod nano (4GB) to USB2.0 port of aluminum keyboard on new 20" aluminum iMac. MP3 song files (total 623) transferred without problem, but whenever I tried to enable syncing of Address Book and iCal under Contacts tab in iTunes 7.4.1 window, error message popped up stated that there are no contacts in Address Book when there are actually 57 contacts already in Address Book. Creating new contacts in Address Book and recreating address book and iTunes library files in user's library folder did not help at all. The syncing of Address Book only work under new user account in Mac OS 10.4.10 (with all Apple updates applied). May I know what have gone wrong with my account ?
I have wasted one hour with call routed to hopeless Apple support center in India. They only want you to keep reseting everything until it work so that they can put the blame on you.

I have had same problem since I got my nano 2 months ago. At least with latest firmware update, when you DO see Contacts they contain their complete Notes! I have tried using iTunes sync to sync my full AddressBook with 900 entries, but this routinely failed to load any more than 600 entries with message saying so. Calendar has been even more problematic until I created a sub-view of my full calendar with just the prior 1 month and future 2 months event entries; then at least I could see the Calendar - but NEVER after immediately a sync, only after i reset the Nano. And finally I have used iPDA (ZappTek) to transfer News, RSS feeds, Weather updates for cities, & selected Documents and these too transfer completely (as inspection of the iPod as Disk shows), but needs a full reset to get them to show. Even then when you first highlight the "Notes" menu option you see it display "No Notes" but then when you click/select it, it starts "Loading them with a counter: sometimes the count is complete, sometimes it "aborts" and then you can only see some of the notes you loaded. I view this as a bug. I believe that the Nano is indexing these entries and either completes it or aborts, for an unknown "bug" reason. The ZappTek developer suggested there is a definite RAM (not storage) limitation in the Nano which prevents the Nano from handling very large sets of entries, but I should think a software update might be able to fix this by not trying to load everything at once.
    Hope this helps.

  • Address book and Mail's address book different??

I thought all Snow Leopard applications shared the same central address book but when I change, say an email address in the main "Address Book" and later address an email, the old email still comes up. When I open address book from within Mail, the entry is different than the one in the main "Address Book" from the dock.
Am I somehow running two different address books? How do I get them to share the same one?
    Thanks.

Great. That does seem to be where Mail was getting it's information. I just deleted that whole list and life is better. Thanks for the info.

  • Importing old address book and itunes songs.

I had to erase my hard drive to install tiger. I backed everything up- however I cannot import my old keychain, address'es and tunes.

You Keychain is located at Home > Library > Keychains > your user short name.
Open Keychain Access and choose File > Add Keychain.
Locate your keychain and click Open.
If you upgraded to Tiger from Panther, the Address Book data file is located at Home > Library > Application Support > AddressBook > AddressBook.data.
Copy the AddressBook folder and with the Address Book quit, place the AddressBook folder at Home > Library > Application Support.
If there is an existing AddressBook folder, this will replace it.
Launch Address Book and all addresses will be restored.
iTunes music is located at Home > Music > iTunes. Copy the iTunes folder and with iTunes quit, place the copy at Home > Music.

  • Issues with Global Address Book and Out of Office saying Exchange is Offline.

So we have an Exchange 2010 server that has been running fine for quite a few years. We recently changed our firewall to an ASA 5510 and created all the firewall rules necessary to have email work through it. Everything works fine so naturally we thought
    everything was good to go.
Then I started getting messages that the Out of Office wasn't working an that when users where trying to set their away message they would get a message from outlook that the exchange server was unavailable, yet when I
check the outlook client it would say Connected to Microsoft Exchange at the bottom. I thought this was crazy so I started looking further into it and it turns out that the name for the server owa.xxxxxx.net points to a public address, which of course lives
on the outside interface to the ASA. In ASA world it doesn't like private space (ie. 192.168.x.x) talking to the outside interface and drops the packets, where our old firewall did not. So as a short term fix I had the users using OWA site with a internal
address to set their out of office message. This worked fine until today when I rebooted the email server and started getting support calls saying that when users where selecting the To: button in a new email that once again they were getting messages saying
that they were not connected to exchange, yet they once again outlook said they were. I then started playing with the host name owa.xxxxxx.net again. This time I changed the hosts file on a box and pointed the internal IP of the exchange server to that
host name. Restarted the outlook client and things started to work as they should. I have played with split DNS to see if this would help so I wouldn't have to do this with every client in the network, and it was promising until I realized that we many hosts
that use this domain and an external DNS server that takes care of these requests that now the internal users will never reach. Funny part is that if we take one of our laptops out side the network everything works fine as well.
So I'm guessing that some of the processes that connect Outlook to Exchange use the FQDN of the server or IP address, and that other things such as the Global Address Book and Out of Office use the External Host Name.
Any help to point these request at the Internal FQDN/IP would be great, or if someone can think of another way of dealing with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Titan,
correct me if i have missed something but are users able to look up contacts in GAL?
If you update (ex mobile number for a user) then run the following commands(one for each line):
       Get-GlobalAddressList | update-GlobalAddressList
       Get-AddressList | update-AddressList
    Get-OfflineAddressBook | Update-OfflineAddressBook
Restart Your Outlook  in 5 min, then do a manual OAB download. Is info on that user updated?
    Does GAL from frm OWA?
if im not wrong,Status and Out of Office use EWS for status update.
    Please run the following command:
Get-WebServicesVirtualDirectory -Identity “mailserver01\EWS (Default Web Site)” |fl *internalUrl*
where mailserver01 is the server that is having the issue.
Then please check if internal URL is correct for that server (and those that are having issues.
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you. Thank you! Off2work

  • Offline Address Book and GAL corrupted.

I have and Exchange 2013 cluster with 3 servers all performing both CAS and MB roles. This environment was originally a 2003 server, then 2007, then 2010, and now 2013 so it has been migrated many times in the past. It seems at some point something was missed
and now we are having serious issues.
It started when I was unable to create new profiles in Outlook. After much troubleshooting and digging I found I was also having a problem creating new mailboxes in Exchange and even updating settings such as mailbox limits. When I try to create a new Mailbox
    I receive the error:
    The LdapRecipientFilter "(& (mailnickname=*) (| (&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(!(homeMDB=*))(!(msExchHomeServerName=*)))(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(|(homeMDB=*)(msExchHomeServerName=*)))(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=contact))(objectCategory=group)(objectCategory=publicFolder)(objectCategory=msExchDynamicDistributionList)
))" on Address List or Email Address Policy "\Default Global Address List" is invalid. Additional information: The attribute type 'mailnickname' or its syntax is not defined in the schema.
This all seems to come down to issues with the Global AddressList and the Offline Address List. Thanks to other posts and Google I found that I should simply update these list using Get-AddressList | Update-AddressList and Get-GlobalAddressList | Update-GlobalAddressList.
These commands however through some erros:
    Get-AddressList | Update-AddressList

From what I read this is due to invalid characters in these entries of the Address Books. If I still had my 2010 box I could go in to the Exchange Toolbox, manage the Address Lists and change the Alias of these entries. I don't have a 2010 box though. All
I have is 2013 and from what I have read there is no way to manage the Address lists through the ECP.
I have tried changing them in the Shell with this command:
    Get-Mailbox | Where {$_.Alias -like "* *"} | ForEach-Object {Set-Mailbox $_.Name -Alias:($_.Al
    as -Replace " ","")}
    But this did not work.
How do I fix this issue in an Exchange 2013 environment? Please let me know if more information is needed and thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi,
I suggest we rebuild the GAL by contacting a Microsoft Support, or it will be a non-support environment. For your reference, a simple version of the rebuilding steps:
    1. Remove the current GAL
    2. Run “/PrepareAD” and it will recreate the GAL.
    Regards,

  • Microsoft Exchange Categories in iCal, Address Book and Mail

I work in a Microsoft environment with my MacBook Pro and would like to use iCal, Address Book and Mail as my default applications rather than Microsoft Oulook 2011, however, there is not support for the Microsoft Exchange Categories to be replicated into the various Apple applications. This results in my address book not to differentiate any longer from my contact categories stored on the Exchange server, nor my calendar. Categories can be created in iCal and other Apple applications but it then requires for the event or contact to be duplication "On my Mac" which makes me loose my synchronization with other systems. Any idea about to fix that?

Same issue here. I would love to migrate to iCal but the lack of support for categories is a limiting factor. Same applies to Contacts.

  • Address Book and Exchange Server - NO NOTES SYNCING???

I have my address book syncing very nicely with my exchange server, but notes do not seem to want to sync. If I create a note on the web access, it doesn't copy to the address book, and none of the address book notes copy to the exchange.
I can't get an answer out of Apple Support either if they are supposed to sync or not! Has anyone here gotten notes to sync with exchange?
Thanks so much. I have searched for over 4 hours on Google and these boards, and noone even mentions notes, leaving me to believe that they SHOULD sync.

Arrgggh! That's a bummer, they could just strip out the notes if they had attachments or something.. or give an error. I have no attachments, and notes are extremely important to me.
Oh well.. there goes my ability to do away with Entourage!

  • Address book and exchange

    Hi,
I'm using exchange email at work and I already configured my ipad to sync with email, contacts and calendar.
The problem is that when I connect my iPad with iTunes to sync them also with my Mac (Address Book and Calendar), the exchange contacts on my iPad are not listed in iTunes.
Can you please help on how to copy and sync exchange contacts/calendars from my iPad to my MAC?
    Thanks
    Cesare

  • Syncing Address book and Exchange 2007 - some problems

    Hello,
I do have a weird problem, not all of my contacts are uploaded to exchange when I create them in Address Book. I need this so that exchange pushes them on my Blackberry.
In Address Book 5 (Snow Leopard), I do have 2 accounts : On My Mac and Exchange.
Do I need to copy them over? If yes, then, how to avoid duplicates?
    Thanks beforehand for your help.
    Jean-Francois.

Since Apple does not even support public folders of the type "mail" for their Apple Mail, I doubt they will support "contact" PFs any time soon. Your only chance will be to add the information from your contact PFs to you Active Directory as "Contacts". These will be shown in your Exchange GAL, which is accessible with Address Book and your Outlook users will still be able to also use the contacts.

  • Problem with Address Book and Exchange

    Hello,
I have a little problem with Address Book and Microsoft Exchange 2003. I am able to connect to Outlook Web Access via Safari without problem. I see my contacts. Unfortunately when I setup everything needed in Address Book preferences (Synchronize with Exchange) the contacts didn't show in my Address Book. Strange thing is that no error is generated. can someone please help me what I am doing wrong ? Thanks in advance.

My suggestion is that you consider using Microsoft Entourage. For Exchange users on a Mac, Entourage is by far the best option. The down side is, you need to buy Microsoft Office 2004 to get Entourage, but your employer might own a site license, in which case, Office 2004 might not cost you anything.

  • Address Book and Google Contacts syncronization

I am trying to sync my Address Book and my Google Contacts with each other. I followed the guide on Google to import contacts using the application "A to G" but that doesn't include photos, which are a big part of why I wanted to do it.
I have in the past synced my address book with my facebook so that has a photo for each of my friends (their profile pics at the time) and since I have deleted my facebook account for privacy reasons.
I just tried to export a single contact in either 2.1 or 3.0 format, and neither imported correctly.
On looking it up online, I see one version had an option to sync with Google dynamically, but I don't see it in the preferences area - there is an option for Exchange, Yahoo, MobileMe but no Google - also I don't know if that will work with my Google Apps so cleanly.

Now I'm no longer using the address book application, so answering this question would be pointless.
