Exchange 2010 Receive Connector intermittently getting an SMTP RSET from sending SMTP servers causing missing user email

Users are receiving about 95% of their messages from sending SMTP servers. Intermittently, sending SMTP servers send the Exchange 2010 Server a SMTP RSET command for no apparent reason. The RSET Command (by SMTP specification) causes the Exchange 2010 Server
to drop the message. The sending SMTP servers then do not resend the message after asking the Exchange server to drop the message. This means the message is marked as Sent by the sending servers but the dropped messages never show up in the users' Outlook
inbox.

Hi,
According to the receive connector log, your emails were failed to be deliverd with DNR. If I misudnerstand the meaning, please feel free to let me know.  If yes, I'd like to confirm the detail information in the DNR to narrow down the
cause.
Additionally, based on my research, the RSET command performs an SMTP reset, and then aborts the message that is currently being sent. Thus, the log didn't provide more information for troubleshooting. Is there any other error in your event log? please check
the event log when the issue happens again.
Thanks,
Angela Shi

  • Exchange 2010 Receive Connector gets 530 5.7.1 Not Authenticated Error

Hi All, I am using Exchange2010 SP2 with HT,CAS and Mail roles ( this is my test machine). I created a receive connector for Mutual TLS in which i have added remote servers with which i want to do mutual (Domain Secure Emails Transfer) and enabled TLS &
Mutual TLS in authentication tab only and partners in permission tab only. When I test these settings with my partners who are on exchange server or iron mail they are working fine. My problem occurs when i receive mails from MDaemon Pro 13.5 and the problem
is i get 530 5.7.1 Not Authenticated  error. Can anyone help me why i am getting this.

I am attaching more details for the said problem. Below is send log from mdaemon side and receive log from exchange 2010 (my side).

In a mixed client environment, mostly Outlook 2010 & 2013 clients. Only Outlook 2013 clients (about only 4 mailboxes) are receiving this error immediately after sending an email. My temp band-aid at the
moment is to: from the client, go into the "address book" & select a different address book like "Contacts" & then select the address again & select the Global Address List, which is the default. (it will have the users email
+ at the beginning of the field, it reads, Global Address List - (email of the user), then I close Outlook & open it back up, & the problem is solved. But on some mailboxes, not all, the issue comes back. From my research, I know that our individual
mailboxes do not send out over 500 emails in one day. Most users will send out maybe 20 or 30 in one day, so I don't think it's that.
But I'm not sure if this is related, but I have noticed that the log files for the Exchange 2010 seems to only hold logs with date stamps of only a couple of days. It used to hold log files indefinitely until they were archived, deleted, etc. So, this is
a new, unusual issue I have seen as well.
We have 2 .edb's, one active: 78 GB's and one disabled at 7 GB's. Exchange 2010 is running on Windows Server 2008 r2, Enterprise Ed. We have had Exchange 2010 running now for about almost 2 years now and this is the first time this particular issue has come
    up.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
You can refer to the following steps to rebuild an Offline Address Book.
    1. Open EMS. Update OAB using the Update-OfflineAddressbook "offline address book" cmdlet. Restart Background Intelligent Transfer Service on the Mailbox server.
    2. Initiate OAB replication from mail box server to CAS server. Execute for each CAS server using the Update-FileDistributionService "CASServerName" cmdlet.
    3. Start Outlook and download OAB.

I am having the same issue, just replied to a different post on the issue.  I am running Acrobat X Pro with Win 7 Pro 64-bit.  This is a new PC, but my last PC was a 32-bit OS and I didn't have this issue.  I was suspecting that it is due to the 64-bit OS.
Reading this post though, I am starting to wonder if there isn't something else going on.  When I go to Edit>Preferences, I don't have anything related to email under Categories, or even within any of the categories listed.  I am I missing a plug in or something?  Or is this a component of a previous version of Acrobat?

  • Exchange Server 2010 - Receive Connector for Client Computers

I have one customer with a SBS 2011 with Exchange Server 2010 - a pretty standard setup except for some customisation with Receive Connectors in order to cater for an application which is installed on a number of computers that requires to use an SMTP Server
to send notifications. In order to accomplish this (allow to be sent using Exchange Server) we added the IP Address of client computer (which we also set as a DHCP reservation) to a pre-configured Receive Connector (Anonymous setup for Printer/Scanner).
This worked fine, but we now find that there are other applications that require the same function to use SMTP to send.
How should/could this be better configured so an application can send if they authenticate?

    Hi
For this  you need to create a seperate receive connector to be used for Relay in your organizations.
    Follow the below steps
    1) Create a dedicated Relay Receive Connector
    2) Add only the Ip addresses of the applications which needs to relay on Exchange servers
    3) You can use either anonymous or authenticated relay according to your relay config
You can follow the below link as well

  • Migrate from 2003 to 2010 - Receive Connector Authentication

I'm in the process of upgrading a remote office from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.  Today, we changed the IP's on their firewall so that 2010 Hub Transport is handling mail.  Normally, I always create a new Receive Connector for receiving mail
from the internet.  I leave it as Anonymous users only and receive on internal IP of the server.
When I send an e-mail from the internet to a 2010 user, the mail is delivered fine, I'm assuming through the new "Anonymous" access connector I created.  However, when I send e-mail from the internet to a 2003 user, I get the following NDR
    with this error:
Reason: 530 5.7.1 Client was not authenticated
I was able to fix the problem by adding Anonymous authentication to the Default receive connector.  I'm wondering why this connector is being chosen over the Internet connector though, and why only for 2003 users?  Is it bad to leave the Default
Connector allowing anonymous access?  I've always left that connector alone and created a new Internet connector which has seemed to work in the past.

    Hi,
According to your description, exchange 2010 like a relay server, and relay the email to exchange 2003 when you send a email from the internet to a 2003 user.
As Ed mentioned, when you add the correct IP address where the traffic comes from on the receive connector, then it would ensure that the correct receive connector would be used.

  • Exchange 2010 to 2013 cross forest migration doesn't have an SMTP address that matches the target delivery domain

I’m having a problem moving a mailbox from exchange 2010 sp3 to Exchange 2013 which are in two separate forests.
    Two way trust in place
    Certificates imported
    ADMT is set up.
SMTP namespace oldcompany.org and newcompany.org for the old email domain and new one is configured to be shared between forests.
    I’m doing the following:
    Step 1
    Prepare-MoveRequest.ps1 -Identity [email protected] -RemoteForestDomainController DC1. oldcompany.Local -RemoteForestCredential $RemoteCredentials -LocalForestDomainController DC1. newcompany.local -LocalForestCredential $LocalCredentials  -TargetMailUserOU
    "OU=Office Users , DC=newcompany,DC=local" –verbose
Everything goes ok, and a disabled user is created. A disabled user account is created in the correct OU.
Email address is set to [email protected]
    Proxy smtp addresses are set:
    smtp:[email protected]
    SMTP:[email protected]
    smtp:[email protected]
    Step 2
I then use ADMT and migrate sid history ect.
    Step 3
New-MoveRequest –Identity [email protected] –Remote –Remotehostname exchange.oldcompany.local  -RemoteCredential $RemoteCredentials –TargetDeliverydomain exchange.newcompany.local
This then fails with the error:
The target mail user newcompany.local/Office Users /mark test' doesn't have an SMTP address that matches
    the target delivery domain 'exchange.newcompany.local'.

      MoveRequest
        + PSComputerName        : exchange.newcompany.local
Any ideas what I am missing.

    Hi Walkersway,
As you have mentioned both the domains are "shared between forests", I would assume its added to the accepted domains as Internal Relay. Also you have 'Send Connector' Setup to relay out the email to the new forest.
"You configure the SMTP domain as an internal relay domain to make sure that email that's addressed to that domain is accepted by the Exchange organization. The connector configuration of your organization determines how messages are routed."
In your case "newcompany.local" should be present.
    Try this:
New-MoveRequest –Identity [email protected] –Remote –Remotehostname exchange.oldcompany.local -RemoteCredential $RemoteCredentials –TargetDeliverydomain newcompany.local
The TargetDeliveryDomain parameter specifies the FQDN of the external email address
created in the source forest for the mail-enabled user when the move request is complete. This parameter is allowed only when performing remote moves with the
    Remote or RemoteLegacy parameter.

    Hi,
Schema updates should be done on a schema master or on a DC in the same AD site as the schema master. Once extended, the updates will replicated via AD replication. To narrow down the issue, I recommend you check if there is any event related to replication
on domain controller holding schema master role.
Is the schema master role in the same site as the Exchange server which you want to upgrade? If not, you can try to transfer FSMO role to a domain controller which is in the site where you want to install Exchange 2010 SP3 and then upgrade to check the result.

  • Exchange 2007 Receive Connector

Hi, We are using Exchange Server 2007 and are using Receive Connectors to allow application servers to relay emails both internally and externally. I would like to make sure that the application servers can send email only to the internal users and not outside
users. I would like to know how can I achieve this. Any suggestion would be welcome.

    Hi Fazal,
    Thank you for your question.
We could refer to the following steps to create transport rule:
    Navigate EMC-Organization Configuration-Hub Transport-Transport Rules
Click “New Transport Rule” and type transport rule name which is “Restrict to Internet”
In Conditions, Click “from people” and type
    [email protected]
In Conditions, Click “sent to users inside or outside the organization” and choose “Outside”
In Actions, choose “silently drop the message”
Then we could enable this transport rule
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.
    Best Regard,

  • Exchange 2010 calendar meetings - allows meeting to be sent then sends decline message

We updated from Exchange 2003 to 2010 last year and are still trying to figure out how to make the resource rooms work properly.  In 2003, if you tried to schedule a meeting and the room was not available, it would not let you send the request.
2010 does and then sends back a decline message.  Can this be changed to be like 2003?

Is there not a way to have Outlook reject the meeting before sending it (like exchange 2003 did)?  I know you can see this in scheduling assistant but not all users use that unfortunately....they just type in the names and send.  Before
in Exchange 2003, it would check availability before sending and NOT send the meeting at all if the room was not available.  That is what I would like to get back to.
Nope. Not possible in Exchange 2010 or 2013 using the built-in Exchange Calendar Asst features.  Direct-booking is not recommended and Outlook 2010 and above do not allow it by default.
That is by design, allowing the server to manage and handle the meeting request logic.
The reason being is that there is now built-in delegate moderation, in-policy and out of policy requirements etc... The resource mailbox has no way of knowing if the meeting request meets or fails the requirements without receiving it first.

  • Exchange 2010 SP2 : Move calander entries and Task items from Archive mailbox to current active mailbox.

    Hi,
After upgrade the exchange 2010 SP1 to SP2, all users calendar and task items entries also moved to archive mailbox from user's active mailboxes.
We like to move 90 days older emails to archive mailbox but not calendar & task items to be moved.

  • Exchange 2010 Log files keep filling up following migration from Exchange 2003

I am migrating from Exchange server 2003 to 2010.
Having only moved one mailbox and set-up Public Folder replication, I noticed that the 20GB Drive allocated for the logs are filling up the entire drive, even before I have time to run my scheduled backup.
As a temporary measure, I have enable circular logging as a workaround.
Q/ Whilst this is not ideal, shall I leave it like this until the Public Folders are fully replicated and all mailboxes moved over?
Q/ What risk am I exposing myself to as a result of using Circular logging (I am running full backups every night).
Q/ Could there be another cause as to why the log files would grow so quick in such a short amount of time?

    Hello,
Remember that logs are truncated after successful backups so if you have a lot of data replicated between backups, a lot of logs will be stored on disk.
"Q/ Whilst this is not ideal, shall I leave it like this until the Public Folders are fully replicated and all mailboxes moved over?"
The best option is to run backups to truncate logs. Circular Logging is useful in test and high available deployments as it can cause data loss (loss of data created between backups).
"Q/ What risk am I exposing myself to as a result of using Circular logging (I am running full backups every night)."
    The same as mentioned above.
"Q/ Could there be another cause as to why the log files would grow so quick in such a short amount of time?"
Enormous logs generation can be caused by bugs in Exchange and connecting devices, i.e. iPhones can cause quick logs creation in some configurations. If you have latest Exchange 2010 build, it shouldn't be problem.
    Hope it helps,
