Exchange 2010, users in C:\Users?

Hello,
We appear to have a problem on our Exchange 2010 servers. We have a lot of user profiles on it for some reason. These people cannot log on to the servers so I don't understand why they have them? Not all users have profiles, probably around 5-10%.
Any advise will be appreciated.
Regards
Ian Southwell

Dear Frank,
Even I am struggling through the same issue whereas there is no one in logon on locally access and we have deny logon locally to all user including authenticated users.
Users profile are creating on only one server whereas on another CAS there is no profile even though CAS1 and CAS2.
Kindly suggest.

    Hi Noel,
Base on my search, it may be due to IRM feature been enabled for OWA.
I recommend you use the following command to check if the value of IRMEnabled parameter is true:
    Get-OWAVirtualDirectory – Identity “servername\owa (default web site)” |FL name,IRMEnabled
If the value is true, you can use "Set-OWAVirtualDirectory" cmdlt to change it to false, and check if any helps.

  • Exchange 2010 Migration of 200 Users/Force Archiving

    Exchange 2010 Outlook 2007
Here's my situation.  We are migrating 200 mailboxes from our current domain which will be absorbed into another company/organization.  The new organization is putting limits on our users mailboxes of 100 Mb or 5000 items in order to make a smooth
transition from our Exchange environment prior to them absorbing all of our mailboxes.  Of the 200 users a quarter of them are way over that limit.  We have sent out numerous emails informing the users (mostly offsite) to archive all of their emails
and clear out the "deleted"/"sent" items.  Obviously no one has listened to our requests to get their mailboxes down to the limit the new organization has set for us.  I just recently migrated all of the users mailboxes to .pst's
via a powershell script, but as you know, that only copies the data.  Is there a way via powershell to move or force all of the users data (sent/deleted/inbox) to an archive thus freeing up their mailboxes for the upcoming migration?  The new org
will not approve the migration of any mailboxes over the 100 Mb/5000 item limit.  I'm not limiting a solution to powershell -- I will take any solution that is Microsoft-centric.  I will not be able to use third party tools or solutions due to the
    nature of my job.

    Hi,
Since the target domain set a policy to limit the migration, I suggest kindly let the target domain disalbe or expand the limitation for a while to complete the migration, if it is possible.
    Thanks

  • Migrate Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, Need to defined win 7 users logon to Exchange 2010 & Win 8.1 users logon to Exchange 2013

    Hi,
My organization have few win 7 and windows 8.1 clients. Now I want to migrate exchange server 2010 to 2013. And I don't want to remove exchange 2010 from the organization. Because I want to connect win 7 client through exchange 2010 and windows 8.1 user
connect to exchange 2013. Is there any way to define the win 7 users to connect to exchange 2010 and Windows 8.1 users to connect to exchange 2013?
    Md. Ramin Hossain

The client connections are proxied to the mailbox servers that hold the mailbox.
You would need to have 2010 MBX servers with the mailboxes for the XP users, and 2013 MBX servers holding the mailboxes for the 7 users. And of course, the appropriate CAS servers.
Realistically, you need to migrate away from Windows XP. It is no longer supported.

  • Outlook 2003 Free/Busy only shows 2 months for users on Exchange 2010

    Hi,
We are moving to Exchange 2010 from Exchange 2003 and have noticed that users who have been created on or migrated to Exchange 2010 who also use Outlook 2003 can only see 2 months worth of free busy information.
After doing some testing this is only an issue if the user who is looking at the free busy is located on Exchange 2010 and they are using Outlook 2003.  It doesn't matter if the mailboxes they are looking at are on Exchange 2003 or Exchange 2010.
If the user uses Outlook 2007 they see free/busy past 2 months.
We configure Outlook to publish 12 months of free/busy.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
According to your description, the issue only happens in Outlook 2003 but not in other Outlook versions. Please check whether there is the Auto Accept Agent installed in your Exchange server. This issue occurs when you register the Auto Accept Agent to process
meeting requests for the affected mailbox.
Here is a KB related to this issue. Please follow it to configure the period for which you want to publish Free/Busy information in a registry entry on the Microsoft Exchange Server on which you have installed the Auto Accept Agent:
The published Free/Busy information for a mailbox is displayed for the default period of two months after you have configured a longer period in Outlook
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917687
The free/busy publish range reverts back to the default setting when you direct book a resource in Outlook 2003
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/905817
Additionally, I recommend you upgrade your Outlook 2003 clients to Outlook 2010/2013 for better working. Because Microsoft ended support for Office 2003 on April 8, 2014.

  • CMDLET commands regarding setting a default font for all users using OWA on an exchange 2010 platform

    HI,
We are running Exchange 2010 and are migrating users from 2003 to 2010 with no problems.  The client has asked me to set OWA font to LuidaSans which I can do for individuals with no problems.  However, when I try and run the following command
Get-Mailbox -Resultsize Unlimited | Set-MailboxMessageConfiguration -LucidaSans but then got a message to state
"property composefontname can't be set on this object becuase it requires the object to have version 0.1 <8.0.535.0> or later.  The object's currant version is 0.0 <6.5.6500.0>"
What object is this reffered to?  Can anyone help please?
    Thanks
    Paul

    Hi,
To set a default font for all users, you can use this command: -
    Get-Mailbox | Set-MailboxMessageConfiguration -DefaultFontName "Trebuchet"
You can use any font style in place of “Trebuchet”.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.

  • Disable SafeHTML in OWA on Exchange 2010? XML attachment with non-XML extension content gets stripped

Is it possible to disable SafeHTML in Outlook Web App on Exchange 2010?
We have users that receive messages with attachments that are generated by a 3rd party.
They are XML files saved with a XLS extension.
When opening via Outlook, Excel prompts that the content does not match the content type and asks the user if they want to open the file anyway, when opened the file does contain the data.
When opening the file via OWA, the contents are stripped out and replaced with the text: This attachment was removed because it contains data that could pose a security risk.
The problem is that some users exclusively use OWA and they need to be able to open these attachments.
    Thank You.

    Hi,
You can disable the OWA SafeHTML filtering by changing changing the
BypassOwaHTMLAttachmentFiltering option to true, for more details, please refer to the following article.
All HTML content in attachment files of messages is run through an HTML filter when you open or save the attachment by using Outlook Web Access (OWA)

  • Does MS outlook 2007 in client machine is recommended in Exchange 2010

    Hi All,
We have a users who uses an outlook via citrix. The outlook clinet on citrix servers is 2007 SP1 and recently there is an upgrade at Exchange server from 2007 to 2010 and all users mail boxes are upgraded to Exchange 2010. After upgrading users mail box to
2010, there are many issue like
    1. Outlook takes more time to load for few users.
    2. Gets a pop-up "trying to connect to Exchange server".
    3. Due to this, performance of citrix becomes very slow. Citrix works fine once outlook closes.
    4. Another strange thing.....there are 2 mailboxes under Exchange 2007, when we send an email from these mail box the mail shows in Outbox but mail got delivered recipients and will not show up in Sent mails.. :(
Could you please give me some suggestions.

For 1-3 problem, you may try to run Outlook in safe mode ("Outlook.exe /safe") without Anti-virus running and check whether the performance of Outlook against Exchange in Citrix platform is fine. If the problem is not caused by client, I think there might
be something configuration problem on Citrix or Windows Server site.
Here is a discussion thread with the same topic from Citrix forum
    http://discussions.citrix.com/topic/310220-poor-performance-on-new-xenapp-farm/
For the Question 4, please check the following Outlook option to check the result.
File > Options > Mail tab > Save messages section > tick the option "Save copies of message in the Sent Items folder"

The exchange 2010 server is not the CAS server for the exchange environment and I is not a proxy for exchange 2007. Is this where I am failing ?

    Hi Nigel,
How is the impact, just one user or all users, Outlook or OWA?

  • Exchange 2010 - Decommissioning Exchange 2007 Coexistence and Removal of Public Folders

We are about to decommission exchange 2007, currently in coexistence with Exchange 2010.
We do not want to use ANY public folders in exchange 2010 going forward. Will do this after decom of 2007:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876883(v=exchg.141).aspx
I see this in the outlook connection status in outlook:
I have changed all Exchange 2010 mailbox databases to use a temporary 2010 public folders db named "public1" so that it is not communicating with the 2007 mailbox virtual server. However, the exact same connection status appears after I changed
the 2010 mailbox DBs to use a 2010 public folder db instead of the old 2007.
Question is, is it safe to decom the 2007 environment now? Is it normal to still have a connection to 2007  in "connection status" in outlook when the users mailbox is on a 2010 mailbox db? Is this connection related to public folders or something
else that needs modified before decom?
    Thanks,
    Josh

So, that wasn't the answer. I switched the Public folder DB on each mailbox database to a exchange 2010 server, PF DB, but hadn't actually moved any data from 2007 to 2010.
I didnt realize this is needed when we don't use public folders except for free-busy, default, etc.
What is the correct way to move the default public folders to a 2010 public folder?
I'm using the below URL as a template to migrate this info to a 2010 PF db.
    https://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/exchange/upgrade-from-exchange-2007-to-exchange-2010---part-ii/
"The user Public Folders then need to be replicated to the Exchange 2010 Public Folder database as well. It is possible to manually configure
all Public Folders with a new replication partner, but it’s better to use PowerShell scripts that Microsoft delivers with Exchange Server 2010. Open the Exchange Management Shell and navigate to the Scripts directory
by entering the CD $ExScripts command,
    and execute the following script:
    AddReplicaToPFRecursive.ps1 -Server 2007MBX -TopPublicFolder "\"
    -ServerToAdd 2010MBX"
My question is, do I have to do this "3rd step" since I don't think i have any custom "user public folders". Is this the user's free busy that I have to migrate, or is this author referring to custom PF db info?
Do I have to have public folders for free-busy and default exchange services at all in 2010?

  • Exchange 2010 Active Sync issues

I know I've posted a lot lately, but the issues keep rolling in with this upgrade.   Since upgrading to Exchange 2010, I have 2 users ( that have come forward thus far) saying they are unable to add exchange mail back onto their phones.
When I go into EMC to look at it and right-click on the uses it shows the option to manage mobile device.  Usually when there is no device paired, that option doesnt come up.  When I go into manage mobile device, it shows that there is no device
listed.  If I run Get-ActiveSyncDeviceStatistics -Mailbox:"alias" I get the same result.  It shows no device.  I think this is locking the user out somehow from being able to add exchange back onto their mobile device.
I have also tried removing their email box from the server, then re-attaching it.  I get the same results each time.  They can add exchange to their phones, but when it tries to download mail it gets "Cannot get mail.  Connection to the
server failed."  Even after they were able to add their account into their phone.

Since you had ActiveSync devices on these accounts on the old system, the tools know those devices existed.  However, you can't manage them until you connect through the new system.  Is your Exchange 2010 system the one that handles the inbound
ActiveSync connections?  Downlevel systems can't support any
    mailbox connections to newer systems.

  • Use Exchange 2010 Hybrid Edition for SMTP relay

    Thanks guys.

the migration is complete and we have kept the Exchange 2010 Hybrid Edition running to enable us to mail enable new AD users after the DirSync has synchronized the user to the tenant.
has anyone used this limited version of Exchange as an smtp relay for network devices, copiers etc?

  • Outlook 2010 not showing Exchange 2010 archives, OWA does.

We have activated Exchange 2010 archives for all users but most of them are not showing up in their Outlook, but everyone can see them in OWA.
Office 2010 Standard - MAK licenses, 2 distinct keys
Majority of systems are Windows XP, some Vista and 7.
Through testing it seems to be a system problem. Using 3 test accounts I log onto various systems, some freshly reimaged, some pre-existing. The test account profiles were new to each system. Sometimes the archive folder would appear, sometimes it wouldn't,
but it was consistent per computer. Meaning that if the folder didn't appear for 1 person, it didn't show up for anyone on that specific computer.
Anybody know how to fix this? Am I missing a setting or registry key somewhere?
    Thank you for any help,
    Greg

Ok, just spent some time looking into this more, if you google "office 2010 suite and version comparison guide pdf" and locate the .pdf file and open it, on page 17 under
Managed E-Mail Folders & Retention Policy:
"Provide a secondary location for users to store their e-mail messages and
manage their mailbox quota with new online managed folders. Unlike localOutlook Data Files (PSTs), this information can be backed
up and managed by Exchange Server."  - is an Office Professional Plus feature only.
So, it would appear that we now not only have to purchase an enterprise CAL for Exchange, but Office Professional Plus as well so we can, I suspect, use the
one extra useful feature that most sys admins wanted Exchange 2010 SP1 for in the first place, which is so centrally manage e-mails and e-mail archives.  Whilst this may not be a big deal for larger companies, educational institutes
etc, as the sys admin for a small private business with 70 users, this extra cost hurts.  As for the lack of clarity - if you want to tie up Office versions with Exchange functionality, how about standardizing naming conventions - call the Exchange
CALs "standard" and "professional" to match the required Office clients, or rename Office Professional to Office Enterprise - either way, match up the client apps and CALs to make it clearer.

  • Configure Exchange 2010 internal mail routing

    Hello,
I’m have an Exchange server system which includes exchange 2003 standard edition server and an Exchange 2010 server standard edition server, plus a public SMTP server. Each exchange edition is on a separate machine. The SMTP server is on a separate machine.
I am in the process of retiring the Exchange 2003 server per the following document:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822931
Inbound mail arrives at the SMTP server and is forwarded from there to the Exchange 2010 server. All user mailboxes have been moved to the Exchange 2010 server. There is a connector between the Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010 servers. Both the Exchange 2003
and Exchange 2010 server have a connector to the public SMTP server.
In reviewing some of the log files, it appears that a lot of mail which originates from a user mailbox on the Exchange 2010 server is being sent from the 2010 server to the 2003 server and from there to the public SMTP server. I don’t know how to change
this priority so that no mail will be sent to the Exchange 2003 server. At this point there is no reason for any mail to travel to or from the Exchange 2003 server. Any suggestions on how to change this configuration so that mail goes directly from the Exchange
2010 server to the SMTP server?
Thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully provide a response!

    Hi,
From your description, I would like to clarify the following thing:
If you have finished the migration successfully, and the Exchange server 2003 is unnecessary. You can remove the connector between Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 and the connector between Exchange 2003 to public SMTP server. And then the mail should go directly
from Exchange 2010 to the SMTP server.
Hope my clarification can be helpful.

  • Cisco 5 with Exchange 2010 and Database Availability Groups

    Hi,
Unity 5 was installed a long time. Recently installed with the latest ES88 to the system. The fact is we have Exchange 2007 (clustered) mailbox server in the network environment, and introduced the Exchange 2010 (with DAG activated).
So far we didn't do any "re-partnering" from the Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010. The end users are working fine by leaving voice message and can retreive their voice without too much issue, no matter where the End Users account are located, Exchange 2007 or Exchange 2010.
But lately, there was some actions taken in the Exchange environment. Some Exchange 2010 mailstore databases in one of the Exchange 2010 server, with DAG has been activated.
In this case, we are now unable to leave any voice messages to the end usrs. All the voice messages are now being held in C:\CommServer\UnityMTA.
Want to ask, does Unity 5 and Exchange 2010 compatible with DAG? Also, is that my problem is caused by re-partnering server not taken place? If yes, which Exchange 2010 mailbox database server I should point to? Reason is, there will have 3 physical servers, and with several DB mailstore, if I select one of the physical server, and one of the D mailstore, will this be affected when the DAG is activated?
    Thanks
    Timothy

    Hi Yancy,
If you're referring to integrating Microsoft Exchange 2010 with Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) 5.x for voicemail purposes, via a SIP Trunk, then you could certainly have a go at it (a Media Termination Point would be required and the codec would be G.711).   However, I'm not aware of anyone having properly tested it with CUCM 5.x; given that it's not having software maintenance releases written for it anymore.   CUCM 5.0 stopped having software maintenance releases written for it in June 2009, and CUCM 5.1 in February this year.
The following Tech Tip is likely to assist:

However I have hit a stumbling block, too many way's and too much information on configuration.  So I have laid out below the commands I intend to use so we publish *.ics which believe is the best way to share calendars with ios systems though I am having
problems with details in the commands.
If anyone has already done this or can provide some examples as I don't use the com shell that often for exchange.
    Step 1:
PRE-REQUISITE: OWA External URL must be set
    set-owavirtualdirectory –Identity <CAS> -ExternalURL <externalURLforCAS>
    - What is "externalURLforCAS"????
    Step 2:
PRE-REQUISITE: Mailbox webproxy must be set
set-exchangeserver –identity “servername” –InternetWebProxy ”webproxy URL”
    - What is ”webproxy URL” ????
    Step 3:
Admin must enable Internet access to exchange published calendars
    set-owavirtualdirectory –Identity <CAS> -CalendarPublishingEnabled$true
    Step 4:
Admin must enable sharing policy for Internet Publishing
    set-sharingpolicy –Identity <PolicyName> -Domains “Anonymous:<accesslevel>”

    Hi,
ActiveSync syncs only the default calendar. We are not able to sync shared calendar in Iphone/Ipad. Your understanding would be appreciated.
Just for your reference, you may take a try with some third party tool:
