Exchange 2013 CU6 installation hangs on step 9: Languages

Just had Exchange 2013 CU6 update hang on Step 9 of 18: Languages.  It was stuck at 0% for almost an hour.  I was able to get it moving forward by disabling SCEP 2012 by killing the process and deselecting check certificate for server certificate
revocation in IE.  Both steps were taken nearly simultaneously and the install process for Exchange jumped up immediately. Both steps were taken based on info from:
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/2a346a37-d092-4189-8a07-e8a9971925f1/cu2-installation-hangs-on-step-9-languages?forum=exchangesvrdeploy
and
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/0975bb5e-f270-4e39-abf3-70809cd98161/exchange-2010-sp3-installation-hangs-language-pack-hell
Just wanted to post that this issue was encountered on CU6 as well.  Has anyone had a similar experience or able to tell which of these two steps (or both) is actually needed?

Hello,
Thanks a lot for sharing, saved my day!
Cheers:)

     Any help?

    Hello Amy,
I will try to follow your suggestions. I will update once I get access to the server.
Anyways, the whole thing was back to normal for 1 day on its own, but right now the issue is happening again. Permission-wise, the account I used is in listed Organization Management role
Update: I forgot to try the EMS, but after I recycle the
MSExchangeECPAppPool, everything works fine, except for viewing Groups and Permissions

  • Cannot disable a mailbox in Exchange 2013 CU6!?!?!?!

I cannot disable a mailbox in Exchange 2013 CU6. I get the following error:
Anyone seen this error? As you know, I just want to remove the Exchange attributes from the user object in Active Directory. Of course, deleting the user object works just fine but don't want to go that route.

I tried with the EMS (Powershell) and I still get an error:
    [PS] C:\>disable-mailbox [email protected]

Are you sure you want to perform this action?
Disabling mailbox "[email protected]" will remove the Exchange properties from the Active Directory user object and mark the mailbox in the database for removal. If the mailbox has an archive or remote archive, the archive will also
    be
marked for removal. In the case of remote archives, this action is permanent. You can't reconnect this user to the remote archive again.

  • MS KB3011140 breaks information store in Exchange 2013 CU6

    Hello,
Last night Microsoft KB 3011140 was inadvertently installed on our Exchange 2013 CU6 server.  I just want to warn everyone that you should be very cautious with this update.  Upon reboot, the information store would crash, recover, then crash and
recover, infintly.  End user symptoms are the pop up bubble in the lower right regarding Outlook lost connectivity to Exchange server, then a few minutes later Outlook restored connectivity to Exchange, rinse and repeat.
This constant up and down would cause many freezes and slowness in Outlook.  The last time we had this issue was when we went to CU6.  Microsoft tech support though free of charge installed a patch Exchange2013-KB2997209_2997847-x64.en.msp and
that fixed our problem.  They left the patch for us, so I thought I would try to re-run this.  It progressed for awhile and then rolled back saying it encountered an unexpected error (what else is new?).
So I removed KB 3011140 which took about 35 minutes to do and upon reboot Exchange is back up and running.
The only side effect I am noticing today is Lync 2013 is asking for Exchange credentials and EWS Internal / EWS External URI's are not populated, however I have no issues reading my conversation history and calendar in Lync.  I need to reboot my machine
yet but other people have started reporting the same thing.

    Hi KJSTech1,
Thanks for your generous sharing and glad to know it works after recycling the MSExchangeServicesAppPool.
It's really hard to say why the patch cause this issue, since I didn't find someothers has the same issue. Thanks for your reporting.
    Thanks

    Please Advice Thanks

    Hi   Midoooz
    Thank you for your question.
Do you install the Exchange Server on the DC?
From you posted error, I think you can try to make your exchange server in maintenance mode, then you can try install exchange CU6.
You can refer to the following link:
    http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2713696
    Note:
Stop Maintenance Mode on the computer that is running Exchange Server after the Exchange Server 2013 CU6 upgrade is completed.
If there are any questions, please let me know.
    Best Regard,
    Jim

  • Large ETLTraces files after Exchange 2013 CU6

After installing Exchange 2013 CU6, you may notice the Exchange Drive is consumed a lot than before and the size is increasing rapidly. After troubleshooting, you may find everything is running properly and
there is no issues with your Exchange Server.
Then you need to check whether the files in the following location is the root cause:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Diagnostics\logfie
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Bin\Search\Ceres\Diagnostics\ETLTraces
(You may find log files like “DocumentProcessingTrace_XX.etl )
Prior to CU6, there is not ETLTrace folder listed in this location and there are log folders however the log file has files no exceeding 7 MB size.
Post upgrade, there comes the ETLTrace folder and the files in this folder are close to 50 MB and the log files folder have log files exceeding 50 MB size.
This is a designed behavior in Exchange CU6, if you have limited hard drive space, as a workaround solution, we can safely remove or move the location of these lo files:
Before doing the changes, please firstly stop the health monitoring service. To Change the Log File Path, the Registry Key value is:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Search Foundation for Exchange\Diagnostics
To Change the ETLTrace path the registry Value is:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office Server\16.0\Search\Diagnostics\Tracing

@Simon_Wu, I tried your solution. However after a couple of days the logs were moved back to the original, default location. It looks like the server has a process which checks for hacks and undoes any attempts to change the path.
Interestingly the altered Registry entries remained altered, however the files were switched back to the default location. It generates just over 1Gb of logs per day on a largely idling Exchange 2013 CU7 server with 350 mailboxes.
    Go figure!
What I found to work consistently and reliably is to replace default folders with junction points to another folder on another drive.
I also found that these files are created by a process which runs under the System process (PID 4), therefore you'll need to restart the server in Safe Mode to replace the default folders with junction points.

  • Throttling policy not working on Exchange 2013 CU6

    Hi,
We have a test throttling policy to restrict a mailbox to send at most 2 messages
per minute in our live Exchange 2013 CU6 enviroment. It was associated to a test mailbox. We have separated installed 2 mailboxe and 2 cas server roles in our enviroment. I have checked latest CU-s (7 & 8) but these are
    not fixing any related bugs.
We tried lots of workaround (see below list) and solutions to fix this but it is still not working with outlook MAPI and OWA client.
    Throttling policy not working
    smtp service restart
    RPC Client Acces service restart
    The policy details:
    Get-ThrottlingPolicy  low_rate_limit |fl *limit*
    MessageRateLimit   : 2
    RecipientRateLimit : 1000
Get-mailbox [email protected] | fl ThrottlingPolicy
    ThrottlingPolicy           : low_rate_limit
Do you have any idea what is the problem?
    Thank you in advance.
    br,
    Zoltan

    Hi Zoltan,
Base on my research, you need to configure the MessageRateLimit parameter on receive connector also.
The MessageRateLimit parameter specifies the maximum number of messages that can be sent by a single client IP address per minute. The default value for a Receive connector configured in the Transport service on a Mailbox server is
unlimited. The default value for a Receive connector configured on an Edge server is 600 messages per minute. The valid input range for this parameter is 1 to 2147483647. To remove the message rate limit on a Receive connector, enter a value of
    unlimited.

Replaced SharedWebConfig files under the location "V15\FrontEnd\HttpProxy"

Added the missing permission on Exchange Back End Web Site by comparing the same with our lab

    On IIS
    è Exchange Back End
    è Changed Physical Path
    è it to "V15\ClientAccess"

Still after which we couldn’t browse OWA under Exchange Back End using Port 444 but found that ECP works fine

Replaced the SharedWebConfig file from working Exchange 2013 CU6 under the location "V15\ClientAccess"

    Ran IISReset

Confirmed that OWA and other virtual directories as well started working fine without any issues

    Hello,
Please make sure you do exchange server upgrading or a clean exchange 2013 installation. If you do a upgrading, please refer to the similar thread to assign a database to the arbitration mailbox "SystemMailbox{bb558c35-97f1-4cb9-8ff7-d53741dc928c}".
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/239cb4a6-4a07-4b9a-800c-974573bbff32/error-installing-step-12-mailbox-role-service-on-exchange-2013-cu2?forum=exchangesvrdeploy
Please make sure you have these permission "Schema Admins, Domain Admins and Enterprise Admins" to install exchange 2013 server.
If this is a clean exchange 2013 installation, please try to recreate the system mailbox to check the result.

    Hi,
Thanks.  This did work for me.  CU6 applied, Exchange back up.  Go live in 2 weeks.
Delete the  Discovery Search mailbox user from Active Directory.  Start your Active Directory Users and Computers
mmc and look for your Discovery Search Mailbox user. Default this user will be placed in the Users organizational unit. It will be named something like: DiscoverySearchMailbox{D919BA05-46A6-415f-80AD-7E09334BB852}. After deletion you can restart the installation
of your Exchange Service Pack. It will not show the error anymore.
To recreate the user use: setup
    /PrepareAD /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms

  • Exchange 2013 incomplete installation - click Next stuck at 0%

    Hi All
Recently we're upgrading exchange 2007 sp3 to Exchange 2013, but I encountered a wierd problem during the exchange 2013 install.
Everything was good during schema prep, adprep, domainprep.
During the installation, it had a problem with discoverysearch mailbox, i followed one of the article over the net, which is disabled it and then re-enabled, then successfully resumed installation. (It's 10/14 steps at that time, which is mailbox role)
BUT, few seconds later after resume, the installation window disappear, I am not sure whether it's running at backend or it's just stopped running, so i waited and waited for nearly 1:30 minutes. I checked all the services, it seems to be all started.
I try to run the setup from installation media again, the first window saying is "incomplete installation detected", then I click next, it's just stuck at 0% percent.
I restarted computer, after reboot it's still showing me incomplete installation detected, then click next, it will stay at 0%.
If i try to open ECP page, it throws me an error, same as OWA. For some reason, the ECP doesn't use port 443, instead it's using 444. Both error looks like there's some configurations missing. It looks like the client access role hasn't been installed successfully,
as in my IIS, the default website only shows powershell under its virtual directory.
I am wondering if anyone has experienced any of the above problem, any solutions?
    Thank you very much

    Hi all
I managed to fix this issue by installing exchange 2013 cu1, by running /m:upgrade switch.
Then i found my client access role hasn't been installed (must be something happened during the original installation).
I ticked client access role, and started to install, but it shows this:
08/17/2013 07:50:18.0317] [1] [ERROR] An error occurred while creating the IIS virtual directory 'IIS://QBEXH01.Uptime.local/W3SVC/1/ROOT/owa' on 'QBEXH01'.

Looks like it failed to create IIS virtual directory, any ideas?
    Much appreicated!
    Thank you

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 Installation Errors I Cannot Resolve

    Good Afternoon All -
Note:  I updated this post an hour after posting.  Still no solution, but please see updated info at end of this post)
I'm trying to introduce Exchange into an existing, small environment.  The server I'm trying to install it onto is an SBS 2011 server (single server.)  Even though SBS comes with Exchange, I found out that it's installation was corrupted and someone
had attempted to uninstall it before.  Yes, it's being installed onto a server with a DC.  I considered creating a Hyper-V VM on the server for Exchange, but thought it may be better to try to install directly onto server instead.
Before I started, I made sure all Exchange data had been removed.  I checked for and deleted (if present) all Exchange-related objects in ADSI, ADU&C, files, and registry entries.
When I try to install Exchange 2013 SP1, I get the below errors.  I know that some are easily resolved by installing pre-requisites - however - others aren't - especially the pending reboot one.  I've restarted the server many times when making
changes or applying various updates and still get flagged to restart during installation.  I've tried the SBS 2011 repair disc as well, but had many issues with it.  In all honesty, the whole server needs to be wiped and re-installed, but
    cannot do at this point.
Besides the errors below, I've zipped up the ExchangeSetupLogs folder and placed them in the link below.  Also below are system specs.  The only edit I made in them is a find/replace for server and domain name.
    ExchangeSetupLogs Folder
    System Specs
    Xeon E31270 3.4Ghz
    16gb RAM
Windows Server 2011 SBS x64 (Domain Controller Role Installed & Used)
    C:\ - RAID 1 = 500gb
    D:\ - SATA HDD = 320gb
    E:\ - SATA HDD = 320GB
Should I perhaps try to install to a VM on the server or think that would use too many unnecessary resources?
Any help would be appreciated - Thanks!
