Exchange 2013 // Error 500 when login OWA through ARR2.5 or other reverse proxy solution

We install a new Exchange 2013 server with CU2 in our Exchange organization with a single Exchange 2007 server. We use a reverse proxy solution for publishing Outlook WebApp and sync. Internal Outlook WebApp works fine, but when we login from internet,
we get the error:
":-( Something went wrong"
In the address bar, we see the following URL:
https://webmail.company.com/owa/auth/errorfe.aspx?httpCode=500
When we try to login on https://webmail.company.com/ecp, it works fine. But OWA fails.
Login on legacy mailboxes works fine. When we login on the new Outlook WebApp URL, we automatically forwarded to the legacy URL.
We try the following reverse proxy solutions:
Citrix Secure Gateway 3.3 on a Windows 2008 server
ISS ARR on a Windows 2012 server (http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/07/19/reverse-proxy-for-exchange-server-2013-using-iis-arr-part-1.aspx)
Is there anyone that knows how I can troubleshoot this problem?

Hi
Mostly looks like this is host (A) issue. You can check the below things
Just check of the mail host (A) record is created on internal DNS server and ensure its pointed to new Exchange 2013 server.
If the mail host (A) record is pointing to old exchange 2007 server just modify it and make it to point to new Exchange 2013 server
Check the DWS directory in edit binding if loopback 127.0.0.1 is added if not add them

  • Fresh install of Exchange 2013. 500 Internal error after trying to login via ECP

Hi folks,In the process of migrating someone from their onsite infrastructure to Cloud ( local city's datacentre). They currently have AD/File+ Print (2008R2) with Exchange on same VM (yeah I know and I am fixing this with new move) and Terminal Server (2008R2).Cloud move will have Server 2012 R2 AD/F+P, Exchange 2013 SP1 on Server 2012 R2 and RDS on Server 2012 R2 VM's. Have setup VPN between the onsite infrastructure and Cloud VM's. AD/DC are in sync. Exchange has been installed with both mailbox and CAS roles after doing Schema & Domain prep and Domain updates. Exchange server and AD/DC in Cloud are joined to onsite infrastructure domain. Exchange on cloud is using cloud AD/DC's DNS.
Cloud AD/DNS can ping onsite AD/PDC fine. Cloud Exchange can ping onsite TS fine but it cannot ping onsite AD/DNS. This is my 2nd issue. Onsite AD/PDC...

  • Exchange 2013 ECP 500 Error

We are in the beginning phase of migrating from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. When I login to the exchange 2013 admin console and navigate to servers it does not show me any of my servers. When I navigate to mailflow-receive connectors I receive a 500
error. When I run the powershell command to get-receiveconnectors it shows me the correct exchange 2013 connectors. I checked IIS and the permissions appear to be correct. Not sure where to look to resolve the issue.

    Hi,
From your description, I would like to verify if you can see all the Exchange servers when running the Get-ExchangeServer cmdlet. If yes, the issue should be ECP virtual directory, you can remove this problematic ECP virtual directory and create a new
ECP virtual directory to check the result.

  • Exchange 2013 (lab): emails stuck in OWA Drafts

Hello I have setup for testing purposes an Exchange 2013 CU5 on a 2012R2 which is also DC and DNS.Network wise I have two virtual interfaces one for the internal network (10.10.10.x/24) and another one linked to the Ethernet physical interface of my computer
which gets its properties from DHCP (usually my gateway router).
Everything seem to work normally but when I try to send emails to the outside world I only get a copy of it inside the Drafts folder. :-)
I thoroughly checked the DNS service (inside the Exchange too), A, PTR records and SOA, I tested the DNS server and nslookuped some internet addresses all resolving fine. The DNS service registers both interfaces DNS servers (the internal one which
is the DC and the external one which comes through DHCP).
Through Test-ServiceHealth in Exchange Management Shell I checked all required services are up and running.
With Setspn -L hostname  I verified all required services are registered correctly on my server.
I also checked Event Viewer and besides some performance counters errors about exchange nothing else in there too.
I haven't registered an MX record because I don't need to receive mail just to send in that  early stage.Am I right in that?
Any ideas are welcome and thanks in advance.

When you see this piling up in drafts, it is not even making it to transport.
OWA sends mail via drafts folder.  So can you please restart the "Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Transport Submission"  service and see what happens.
This is also a very bizarre setup.  DCs do not normally have multiple interfaces, and while Exchange is supported on a DC (apart from DAG) its still not recommended.
You probably want to simplify this as you troubleshoot - can  you remove the internal interface from the test box, and clean up DNS and host files etc.

  • Exchange 2013 cros site blank page OWA/ECP

    Hello,
I have an issue with a fresh installation of Exchange 2013 SP1.
The are two AD site in different cities, connected by WAN link (site-to site VPN organized by Cisco ASA).
I installed two Exchange servers in Site A (MBX1 and MBX2, both with MBX+CAS roles), and one Exchange server MBX3 in Site B (also both with MBX+CAS roles).
Each Exchange hosts its own mailbox database (DB1, DB2, DB3 respectively), there are no DAG.
Users spread over all databases. For example, user1 has mailbox in DB1, user2 - in DB2, user3 in DB3.
When user1 opens OWA/ECP on CAS server MBX1 or MBX2, he successfully get into his mailbox.
But, if user1 opens OWA/ECP on CAS server MBX3, he get blank page (no error at all).
    And vise versa:
When user3 opens OWA/ECP on CAS server MBX3, he successfully get into his mailbox.
But, if user3 opens OWA/ECP on CAS server MBX1 or MBX2, he get blank page (no error at all).
I know, that Exchange 2013 is able to proxy request cross site.
Where are no custom redirects set on IIS.
Also I check IIS (Back End Site) for right certificate.
There are no error in Windows Event log and IIS event Log.
All ports are allowed between sites.
    Everything looks good.
What I did wrong? May be I need to enable cross-site OWA proxy in Exchange somewhere?
Or it is a CISCO ASA misconfiguration?
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thank You!
    Pavel

    Hi,
Firstly, I’d like to confirm if all your Exchange server are internet facing servers.
We can try to clear the Forms based authentication on the non-internet facing server.

  • Exchange 2013 - Folders missing when importing PST to archive mailbox

    Hello,
I'm having an issue when importing PST files to an Exchange 2013 archive mailbox using the command "New-MailboxImportRequest
test -FilePath '\\server\e$\ArchiveExport\test.pst' -IsArchive -BadItemLimit 5 -ErrorAction Stop"
The import is running without an error and shows the status complete. The size of the archive mailbox is exactly the same like the size
    of the PST file!
But when I check the users archive mailbox some folders are missing. It seems that this happens only to default folders like "Inbox"
or "Sent Items". Other folders are visible.
The mailbox import log shows the following:
16.01.15 16:31:56 [server] Merging folder '/Top of Personal Folders/Inbox [Inbox]' into '/Inbox [Inbox]'.
    16.01.15 16:31:56 [server] Copying 3 items, 4.789 KB (4,904 bytes). Skipping 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes).
If I start the import process again the log says the following:
    16.01.15 16:46:54 [server] Merging folder '/Top of Personal Folders/Inbox [Inbox]' into '/Inbox [Inbox]'.16.01.15
    16:46:54 [server] Copying 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes). Skipping 3 items, 4.789 KB (4,904 bytes).
So it seems that the mails are really there but just not visible.
    I did some tests:
When  I import the PST file directly to the users mailbox (without parameter -IsArchive) I can see all content of the PST file.
When I add the parameter -TargetRootFolder "Testfolder" the whole PST content shows up correctly under that folder.
    Can anyone explain this?
    Regards

    Hi PhilippMair,
    Thank you for your question.
If all subfolders were merged, we could use OWA to check if the missing folders is appeared. If we could see missing folders by OWA, I suggest we recreate outlook profile and reset outlook view.
In order to troubleshooting, I suggest we collect the import log to analysis if the subfolder of Inbox or Sent Item is exported.
In my test lab, inbox has three subfolders, there are 123,456,789; when I import PST file, I will see the following log:
    1/20/2015 7:32:31 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Merging folder '/Top of Outlook data file/Inbox' into '/Top of Information Store/Inbox'.
    1/20/2015 7:32:31 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Copying 18 items, 302.3 KB (309,594 bytes). Skipping 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes).
    1/20/2015 7:32:32 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Merging folder '/Top of Outlook data file/Inbox/123' into '/Top of Information Store/Inbox/123'.
    1/20/2015 7:32:32 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Copying 5 items, 62.21 KB (63,699 bytes). Skipping 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes).
    1/20/2015 7:32:33 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Merging folder '/Top of Outlook data file/Inbox/456' into '/Top of Information Store/Inbox/456'.
    1/20/2015 7:32:33 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Copying 1 items, 6.908 KB (7,074 bytes). Skipping 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes).
    1/20/2015 7:32:33 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Merging folder '/Top of Outlook data file/Inbox/789' into '/Top of Information Store/Inbox/789'.
     1/20/2015 7:32:33 AM [EXCH2-CU1] Copying 1 items, 21.31 KB (21,820 bytes). Skipping 0 items, 0 B (0 bytes).
We could check if there are any subfolder which would not be merged and copied. If your import log has any abnormal, I suggest you send log file to
    [email protected] for our troubleshooting.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Some object reference at line 66 of TemplateNames.java is null while you didn't expect and you still invoke/access it. To fix this, add a nullcheck or just instantiate the reference.

  • Exchange 2013 ECP redirects to 2010 OWA still

I have a new Exchange 2013 SP1 server on a 2012 R2 OS where I've installed both Mailbox and Client Access roles in an existing Exchange 2010 environment.  Initially ran into some DNS issues that caused errors installing the Client Access server, but
I fixed those, removed Exchange 2013 and reinstalled with no errors.  In every scenario so far, trying to access the ECP redirects you to the 2010 OWA.  I have been scouring threads for hours and tried everything I've seen, but to no avail.  I
    have tried:
    1) Using the https://<Exchange_2013_CAS_FQDN>/ecp?ExchClientVer=15 URL, which still
    redirects to the 2010 OWA
    2) Creating a new user account with all of the same rights as the domain admin but has no mailbox, which redirects to the 2010 OWA and throws an error that there is no mailbox.
    3) Setting the domain in IIS authentication settings for the ECP on both the 2013 and 2010 server.
Does anyone have any ideas here on what to try next?

Try creating a mailbox for the administrative account on the Exchange 2013 server or moving the existing mailbox.
I've seen issues like you're experiencing in various forms before myself, though not exactly as you've reported.

    Hi
Remove thinking of SBS server because this part might scare you . It is just the same process of migrating it from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 . You just need both the server operating smoothly until this migration is complete.
First Make sure you're running Rollup 10 of SP3 for Exchange 2007 and that you have atleast Exchange 2013 CU1  else the installation won't proceed further.
You need to have a seperate box for installing Exchange 2013.
I would recommend you to follow this artilcle which has clear cut information
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898582(v=exchg.150).aspx
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898581(v=exchg.150).aspx
Please let us know if you have already tried the above things. You can paste any errors generated in the app and sys logs in the installation server.
Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as
Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other
    community members reading the thread.

  • Error message when login to Remote Web Access

    Hi everyone,
I have a server that is running Windows Server 2012 Essential. All was working fine until one day I tried to login to Remote Web Access. As soon as I type in my user name and password and press enter I am greeted with the following error message:
"Critical Error - Remote Web Access" (this is displayed in the browser's web page bar)
"Cannot connect to Remote Web Access. Please contact the person who manages the server."
I don't know how to fix this problem. I only get this error page when entering the correct login.
I will be very grateful if anyone knows hot to get around this.
    Thanks!

    Hi John:
Before we get too worried, try "other user" then domain-name\user-name and pw.
Try that and let us know.
Also, and becuse you should do it anyway, run the BPA and fix everthing it finds, look through the event viewer for error messages, and run the BPA from right side under the devices tab.

  • Office Web Apps 2013 Error 500

Below I configured Office Web Apps 2013, on 2 servers,
SharePoint 2013 SP1 Enterprise Edition August 2014 CU on Microsoft Windows Server 2013 R1
    SP2013ServerWFE-AppServer
Office Web Apps 2013 August 2014 CU on Microsoft Windows Server 2013 R1
    OFFICEWEBAPP2013SERVER
After my install, I can see that the preview displayes for the site I am on I am NOT logged on as the System Account or Site Collection Admin, just a user.
I then try to display the file below it and this is where I get the error 500
This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented  the webpage from displaying.
The website cannot display the page
These are the steps that I have just taken to try to enable this process.
    I went to SP2013ServerWFE-AppServer – SharePoint 2013 Server
SharePoint 2013 Management Shell as Admin
    Remove-SPWOPIBinding –All:$true
Went to OFFICEWEBAPP2013SERVER – Office Web Apps 2013 server.
    PowerShell, as Admin.
New-OfficeWebAppsFarm –Verbose –InternalUrl "http://SP2013ServerWFE-AppServer" -ExternalUrl "http://SP2013ServerWFE-AppServer" -AllowHTTP –EditingEnabled
    –ClipartEnabled -AllowCEIP
On the OFFICEWEBAPP2013SERVER server, open up IE
    NETBIOS
    http://OFFICEWEBAPP2013SERVER/hosting/discovery
    FQDN
    http://OFFICEWEBAPP2013SERVER.COMPANY.DOMAIN.local/hosting/discovery
    Both worked!
    Go to SP2013ServerWFE-AppServer – SharePoint 2013 Server
    New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName OFFICEWEBAPP2013SERVER –AllowHTTP
    Worked, ran:
    Get-SPWOPIZone
Set already but if needed to, could have changed, kept it as was below.
    Set-SPWOPIZone -zone "Internal-http"
Now I get the error.  Am I missing something?

    Get-OfficeWebAppsMachine
    MasterMachineName             MachineName                   Roles
    HealthStatus
    2013OWAOFFWA01                 2013OWAOFFWA01                 {All}
    Unhealthy
It shows unhealthy, thanks to your having me check.
I just went and did Remove-OfficeWebAppsMachine and
Remove-SPWOPIBinding –All:$true and then tried what I have in my original post.  Not sure why it is saying unhealthy!
Excel Calculation Services is running, I know that that will cause an issue with Excel Services and Excel Web Apps.  Testing with Word Documents, and or putting in SharePoint to get to the main page, to see an image rendition in search.
I went to open a word document as search gave me an error message, so I thought I'd try, but I didn't see it in office web apps ULS but on SharePoint 2013
