Exchange 2013 Event ID 9646 - MoMT 500 Folder
Hello,
I am running Exchange 2013 CU3 and I'm getting an Event ID 9646 in the application event log. Full text below. It would appear it's saying the user is trying to open more than 500 folders but I have looked at her mailbox and while she has a lot of folders,
it's not over 500. Any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks,
Brad
The description for Event ID 9646 from source MSExchangeIS cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
/O=xxxxx/OU=xxxxx/cn=Recipients/cn=JRoberts
MoMT
500

the message resource is present but the message is not found in the string/message table

Hi,
About event 9646, this could be caused when a MAPI session tried to open more than the maximum number of objects that are allowed for the object type specified in the event description.
To resolve this issue, please try to modify the registry key and set the "objtFolder" value to 1000 to check the result.
For more details, please refer to the solution in the following article.

We are migrating from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013. We have installed the Exchange 2013 but it only has a couple of mailboxes on this server, all the mailboxes are still on the Exchange 2010 server.
I have run a Windows Backup of the Exchange 2013 but I am still seeing a ton a log files in the mailbox folder.
Also the database file is only about 1.1 GB but the backup is now 40 GB.
Is there something that can be done to truncate these logs and make the backup smaller?Hi ,
1.Does the full backup completed successfully ?
2.what about the status for the below mentioned command ? Does the mailbox database headers updated with the latest time and date ?
Get-MailboxDatabase -Status | ft name,*full* -au
3.Just check the application event logs for the event id
2046 and that should state that the log truncation for the mailbox databases has been initiated or not.
4.Before initiating the backup just make the exchange writer is not on error.
vssadmin list writers
In case if it on error state ,please restart the Microsoft exchange replication service and check the exchange writers status again by using the above mentioned command.
Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham -
Exchange 2013 OWA Login Error HTTP 500
I installed Exchange 2013 on Windows Server 2012.
After restarting the Host I could not login into owa or ecp the login screen showed up but after entering my correct credentials I would get a
HTTP 500 Error on https://localhost/owa/auth.owa
The error persited after multiple reboots of the Exchange server.
Some googling revealed to me that this might be caused by the Forms Based Authentication Serivce not running.
But looking at the Services List I cant seem to even locate it. (I believe that the service belongs to MS-exchange 2010 only)
Anyone got any idea why this might happen or could give me the exact name of the service or help solve the problem.
tnxHi

Exchange 2013 event ID 36888 SChannel error 12 and 1203
I am running Windows Server 2012 STD with Exchange 2013 installed on the same server. I know that Microsoft doesnt recommend to do this, but I had no choice. Errors are follow:

ŠerýHi Jan,
Based on my research for the Event 36888, the issue may be caused by not standard or corrupted behavior of web browsers or users, such as user use HTTP protocol to access Exchange service which is a SSL site on port 443.
Please check whether there is a HTTP redirect configured in your IIS Manager of Exchange server. Also reset web browsers to have a try. Here are some similar thread for this issue:

Based on my research, the issue can be resolved by removing and re-creating all Exchange performance counters:
add-pssnapin Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.Setup

foreach ($file in $files) {remove-perfcounters -definitionfilename $file.fullname}

First verify that you have all 5 Arbitration Mailboxes with: Get-Mailbox -Arbitration
The error you see indicates that the database they were on was deleted, possibly in ADSIEdit, and now you have recipients with an old value set. Can't say for sure, but it looks like groups and since they do have an ArbitrationMailbox configured by
default and to fix them all in one go, just run:
Get-DistributionGroup -resultsize unlimited | Set-DistributionGroup -ArbitrationMailbox "SystemMailbox{1f05a927*"

Exchange 2013 SP1 | Another HTTP 500.0.0 Error
Help!
We are in the middle of migrating from Exchange 2010 SP3 to Exchange 2013 SP1 and we are being plagued with HTTP 500 errors on every Exchange 2013 server now.
I have two Client Access servers installed (EXCHFE01 & EXCHFE02) and one backend mailbox server (EXCHMB03) with the Client Access role also installed (for troubleshooting purposes). Once I get everything working I'll install two backend 2013 servers
with the mailbox role only for production (load-balanced, clustered, etc). I still have two Exchange 2010 mailbox servers left since one has a single large mailbox left on it and the other hosts public folders. I'll get to migrating those later. All Exchange
2013 servers are running Windows Server 2012. All are on the same LAN and no firewalls are between them.
On all three 2013 servers (EXCHFE01, EXCHFE02, EXCHMB03) I'm getting the dreaded HTTP 500 error whether I try to get to OWA or ECP. This did work at one point where I could at least login to the mailbox server (EXCHMB03) and migrate all my mailboxes over
to it. Sometime this morning after the two Client Access servers were installed the mailbox server stopped working (HTTP 500 errors). This is very frustrating because I can't even login to a console to manage Exchange from any server at this point.
Both Client Access servers aren't really showing anything of value in the event logs or the IIS logs. The mailbox server (EXCHMB03) does show the following event 3002:
Protocol /Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync failed to process request from identity NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM. Exception: Microsoft.Exchange.Security.Authentication.BackendRehydrationException: Rehydration failed. Reason: Source server 'NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM' does not have token serialization permission.
at Microsoft.Exchange.Security.Authentication.BackendRehydrationModule.ProcessRequest(HttpContext httpContext)
at Microsoft.Exchange.Security.Authentication.BackendRehydrationModule.OnAuthenticateRequest(Object source, EventArgs args).
...and I get the following when I run the Exchange Management Shell tool on the same mailbox server (along with lots of other red HTML text):
More Information:
This error means that there was a problem while processing the request. The request was received by the Web server, but during processing a fatal error occurred, causing the 500 error.
The Client Access servers show the following errors:

I've tried all sorts of recommended fixes but none have worked so far:
ADSIEdit and remove msExchCanaryData0 data
Reinstall Exchange multiple times
Rebooted multiple times

Rebooted DCs multiple times (no exchange servers are DCs)
I'm sure I've left out a few troubleshooting steps since I've been working at this for two days. Can anybody offer any advice? I'm at my wits end here...Hi,
Please check whether the mail.mydomain.com is pointed to your Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2013. Please run the following command to check your OWA virtual directores and ECP virtual directories:
Get-OwaVirtualDirectory -ShowMailboxVirtualDirectories | Select Identity,name,Internalurl,ExternalUrl,*auth*
Get-EcpVirtualDirectory -ShowMailboxVirtualDirectories | Select Identity,name,Internalurl,ExternalUrl,*auth*
In IIS manager > Default Web Site, please make sure Anonymous Authentication is Enabled in Authentication. Confirm that "Require SSL" is checked on the SSL Settings of the default web site.

Object-Owner missing in Public Folder Calenders after Transition to Exchange 2013 SP1
Hi there,
we transfered all Public Folders from Exchange 2003 to 2010 to 2013 SP1. We have some Calendars with PublicFolderClientPermission Author witch includes EditOwnedItems and DeleteOwnedItems
Unfortunately the Author Rights wont work after migration. it seems like the creator of the object got lost.
since i never notices that in transitions from exchange 2003 to 2010, i think that should be related to the exchange 2013 transition.
Can anybody approve or disprove that behavior?
thanks alotNoticed now in the Exchange 2013 Event Logs that we're getting quite a few of these warnings:
"Process <Select one exchange releated process>.exe (PID=<whatever>). Object [CN=Public Folder Database,CN=Databases,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Contoso,CN=Microsoft
Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=contoso,DC=local]. Property [PublicFolderDatabase] is set to value [contoso.local/Configuration/Deleted Objects/Public Folder Database
DEL:ca62a715-05b2-4b08-ae0f-7f7c4b7e4cc3], it is pointing to the Deleted Objects container in Active Directory. This property should be fixed as soon as possible."
If i take a look at that mailbox database it's obvious that it's pointing towards the old Public Folder Database, which is quite interesting as Exchange 2013 isn't supposed to used that value at all (according to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123971(v=exchg.150).aspx):
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-MailboxDatabase -Identity "Mailbox database" | fl
PublicFolderDatabase : contoso.local/Configuration/Deleted Objects/Public Folder Database
DEL:ca62a715-05b2-4b08-ae0f-7f7c4b7e4cc3
I'm assuming this is what happens when messing around with ADSIEdit :) So, further ADSIEdits to set that value to null on the existing Mailboxdatabases, or anyone have any other suggestions? -

Exchange 2013 - Logging folder - huge size
friends i have exchange 2013 SP1... my logging folder is growing like anything .. can some one advise the best practices around it .. i am not sure how i can clean this ... same is happening with inetpub log .. is this related???.. in few months its around
22 GB ...
Please advise
Thanks
Happiness Always
JatinThis is by design due to the architectural changes in the product. However have seen cases where it caused issues. you can:
Move Logging folders to another drive in Exchange 2013 via Powershell:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/22479.move-logging-in-exchange-2013-via-powershell.aspx
Or alternatively you can disable some of the tasks under Windows\PLA in the Task Scheduler Manager.
You can also do a clean-upand delete some of the files older than a specified day.
Get-ChildItem 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\Logging','C:\inetpub\logs' -Directory | get-childitem -Include '*.log' -Recurse | ? LastWriteTime -lt (Get-Date).AddDays(-XX) | Remove-Item

Exchange 2013 Public Folder Calendars in OWA
Hello,
I have a Public Folder calendar that I need to publish via OWA in Exchange 2013. I understand that you cannot view any public folder that is not mail enabled in OWA. If I make this specific calendar mail enabled will I be able to view the calendar
in OWA? I think I still have to convert this to a shared mailbox. If that is the case, what are the best steps to perform that?Hi,
Yes I agree with Ed Crowley. In Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update 1, Microsoft have allowed to display public folders. However, two major restrictions exist. First, OWA can only display modern public folders. In other words, you have to complete your
migration to Exchange 2013 and then execute a public folder migration before OWA can be used. No access is possible to legacy public folders. Second, OWA can only display “mail public folders”, or public folders that contain “mail and post items” (as they
are referred to by Outlook). Other folders (calendars, contacts, tasks, notes, InfoPath, and journal items) are unsupported.

Outlook save/update error with Exchange 2013 public folder used as Contact Items
Hello Everybody.
This problem is driving me crazy.
In Exchange 2013 i have created a public folder with several subfolders used as Contact Items.
I've reviewed all settings several times and all is ok.
Outlook 2010/2013 users several times receive the message:
"The item cannot be saved to this folder. The folder was deleted or moved, or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in the default folder for the item?"
when try save an existing contact after modification.
I can assure you that user permissions, server configurations are ok; please, help me.Did you make the subfolder the correct type, i.e., a contacts-type folder?
