Exchange 2013 fails Active Directory Prep

This is a new, new, installation of Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials followed by Exchange 2013, all on a single server that is also the DC, in a lab environment.   This is to replace an existing SBS2000 installation in a small business.
Server 2012 setup without any significant issues.  The first pass at Exchange 2013 resulted in "access denied" when attempting to access the Exchange Management PS and login credentials failure for Exchange EAC (ECP).   After manually
adding the installation Administrator to a number of the Exchange security groups, I was able to access Exchange Manager.  I checked that there was a mailbox associated with the Installation Admin ID, attempted to reset passwords and a number of other
things to no avail.  I uninstalled Exchange (what a pain).
I reinstalled Exchange.  As with the first time, no prerequisite errors and no installation failure alerts.   Again, I could not access Exchange Manager (access denied) or the EAC (login credentials failure).   This time, I was not
able change the security group permissions to gain access to Exchange Manager.  Again, checked about everything there was to check on the web and found a reference to Exchange possibly not installing correctly due to lingering entries from the first install.
As I could not access Exchange Manager to perform the uninstall prerequisites, I attempted to manually delete it (nothing to loose at this point), but made the anticipated mess.
Wiped the RAID and started over with a clean sheet install of Server 2012 Essentials-OK.  Progressed in the Exchange install prep to "Prepare Active Directory and Domains" (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224(v=exchg.150).aspx)
and stopped when I could not detect the confirming ADSI entries of AD prep set forth at the close of the TechNet document.
I methodically stepped through the install procedure and again received no prerequisite failures or installation failure alerts.  I examined the install logs and found no errors, either.
Any words of wisdom?

Hi,
From your description, Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials and Exchange 2013 are installed on a single server that is also the DC.
Microsoft does not support installing Exchange Server on a server that is running Windows Server Essentials. You need to install Exchange Server on a second server and then join the second server to the Windows Server Essentials domain.
And it is not recommended to install Exchange server on DC.
Here is a related article for your reference.

  • Word 2013 and Active Directory attribut

    Hi,
    I'm working with WS2008R2 SP1 AD and Office standard 2013 and W7 SP1 x64. Our compagny wants to create .dotm/.dotx with automatic fields.
    For example, we want that when a user opens a .dotx his name appears automatically. This one is easy it's the {AUTHOR \*MERGEFORMAT}.
    But What we want to do is to do the same for the:
    - street adress
    - email adress
    - the job title
    All informations are in our Active Directory, but it seems that Word does not read directly the Active Directory info but some cached info on the computer.
    So, is there a way or workaround to create some .dotx with the possibility to extrat some AD fields attribut attached with some user and at the end to build a semi automatic doc with the information of the user who has open this .dotx/.dotm?
    So far, clues say that I have to write some vba script and 2 kind of solution/workaround:
    The first lead is:
    To retrieve the user account properties from Active Directory, we have to turn to some VBA scripts, no way to achieve this via any built-in features.
    As far as I know, you can bind to the user account object by using the
    GetObject function and the LDAP provider.
    Then use the GetInfo method to initialize the local cache with attributes of the user account object. This step will ensure that the most up-to-date attribute values of the ADSI object are retrieved.
    For example:
    Set objUser = GetObject _
    ("LDAP://...")
    objUser.GetInfo
    If you want to get this attributes when you create a new document based on a template (.dotx/.dotm), you'll need to use the
    AutoNew macro.
    the second lead is:
    http://heureuxoli.developpez.com/office/word/creermodele/#L2-G
    Thank you in advance for any king od answer.
    best regards

    Hello,
    Have you tried these two methods? What is the result and what is your decision?
    If you're familiar with Visual Studio IDE and .Net Framework, I would recommend that you create a application-level or document-level Add-In for word. Because it's easy to access the AD with managed code, and it's suitable in your case. You can check the
    MSDN document here for the related objects you need to use in .Net Framework to access AD:
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg145037(v=vs.110).aspx
    But if you just want to use VBA for Word, this kb article tells you how to do this via ADO connection:
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/187529/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0
    If you want to know something about Active Directory itself, then it's not the correct forum, you can open up new thread in the AD forums for help.

  • SMTP test to Exchange 2013 failing

    I have an Exchange 2013 server set up for testing which I am trying to have the internal servers relay off of to EarthLink (My ISP).
    The Receive Connector is set up as a FrontEnd Transport, Anonymous and Externally Secured authentication.  It accepts all addresses from my internal subnet.
    The Send Connector is set up using a Smart connector to smtpauth.earthlink.net.  It is set to use port 587 ( which is what EarthLink apparently uses).  It uses basic authentication with my credentials to EarthLink.  The address space is set
    to '*'.
    When I am on one of the member servers, I telnet 25 to the Exchange 2013 server and testing it:

    I have been searching all over for some insights what this 451 4.7.0 .... PRX3 error is.  There are a number of posts about PRX2, PRX4 and so forth.  I have already found the information about verifying all DNS servers and creating a record in
    the host file.  None of that changed anything.
    I disabled Symantec thinking it was causing the problem. Nope.
    Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated!

    Hi   Dolbert
    Thank you for your question.
    Did you can receive/send email?
    If not, you can give me some error in your log or event?
    “451 4.7.0 Temporary server error. Please try again later. PRX3” encoded SMTP response for when proxy fails because of connection failures to the destination. It happened at the send connector cannot resolve the correct destination. You can refer to the

  • Exchange 2013 Schema/AD/Domain Prep/Install & Outlook 2003

    Hi
    I am in the process of preparing for a migration from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013.
    75% of our users are on Outlook 2007 Sp3 / 2010
    25% of our users are on Outlook 2003.
    I understand that Outlook 2003 is not supported for mailboxes on 2013.
    However, can I perform the schema/AD/Domain prep and Exchange 2013 install without disrupting Outlook 2003 users?
    I can then work on migrating them at a later point.
    Many Thanks
    Steven

    Hi Steven
    You can safely run all the schema extensions in preparation to Exchange 2013 setup in your environment.
    But when you install the first Exchange 2013 server with the CAS role things will change fast, because you are then in a mixed coexistence scenario, where Exchange 2013 will start running the
    show.
    The reason why Exchange 2013 does not support Outlook 2003 is documented here:
    technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj619283(v=exchg.150).aspx
    Outlook 2003 is not   supported
    To connect   Microsoft Outlook to Exchange 2013, the use of the Autodiscover service is   required. However, Microsoft Outlook 2003 doesn’t support the use of the   Autodiscover
    service.
    As workaround you can always have you Outlook 2003 connect over IMAP until you get Outlook upgraded.
    Even so I would really recommend starting by upgrading your clients and only then consider adding the new Exchange 2013 servers to your infrastructure.
    You can confirm the Exchange Server Supportability Matrix here:
    technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff728623(v=exchg.150).aspx
    A very nice entry on the Exchange team blog about exchange 2013 mixed coexistence and client connectivity:
    blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/03/12/client-connectivity-in-an-exchange-2013-coexistence-environment.aspx
    And here are a couple of articles that might help you prevent some minor bumps on your project:
    technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898583(v=exchg.150).aspx

    Hi,
    This problem occurs because the federated built-in e-mail account that links to the computer account no longer exists. Or, the federated built-in e-mail account in the AD
     directory service is corrupted.
    Please try to follow these steps to solve this problem.
        1. Remove the FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a95fa1e042 e-mail account by using the ADSIEDIT tool. To do this, follow these steps:
    Click Start, click Run, type adsiedit.msc, and then click
    OK.
    Locate the Default Naming Context node, and then locate to the
    CN=Users container.
    Locate and then right-click the CN=FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a95fa1e042 container. Then, click
    Delete.
        2. Rerun the Exchange Server 2013 Mailbox role setup application.
        3. Create a new federated e-mail account by using the following command:
    New-Mailbox -Arbitration -Name FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a95fa1e042 -UserPrincipalName FederatedEmail.4c1f4d8b-8179-4148-93bf-00a95fa1e042@<Default_Accepted_Domain>

  • EXCHANGE 2013 - setup.exe schema prep error

    Trying to install exchange 2013 sp1 (downloaded from here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41994).
    on 2012 r2 server.
    After I run (with domain admins affcourse): Setup.exe /prepareschema /IAcceptExchangeserverlicenseterms
    I recieve an error that user is not a member of schema admins and enterprise admins but I have double checked that account is in those groups. So, what am I missing there?
    bostjanc

    Hi Joe,
    since we can make sure the user account is a member of Domain Admins, Schema Admins and Enterprise Admins groups, please also add the user to be a member of Organization Management group, don’t
    just add the Domain admin to the Organization Management group, please directly add the account to the member of Organization Management group.
    Then check if the account inherit permission form its parent level. To do this, please refer to the following steps:
    Open ADUC, select “View->Advanced Features”;
    Navigate to the user account you used, check its
    Properties;
    On the
    Security tab, click Advanced, please make sure the inherited permission is enabled in the lower left corner. If not, please click “Enable Inheritance” to enable it.
    Then use this account to login the server;
    Right click “Command Prompt” and choose “Run as administrator”, then navigate to the setup file location, try to prepare schema by command:
    Setup.exe /prepareschema /IAcceptExchangeserverlicenseterms
    6.  If issue persists, please try Mavis’s suggestion to create a new user account, use above steps add the sufficient permission, then check the issue again.
    Meanwhile, what do you mean by “single label domain”? Do we have a single domain and prepared DC/GC, or have parent/child domain configuration.

  • Exchange 2010 SP3 Active Directory update - can I do this 2 or 3 weeks in advance of SP3 Install?

    Hi,
    As above really - is it OK to do the setup.exe /PrepareAD three weeks in advance of the Exchange SP3 install?
    My thinking is: one less thing to do at the update and all Domain Controllers should have updated / replicated well in advance of the Service Pack install.
    I only have a single Domain with two AD sites (Head office and Disaster Recovery).
    Any issues with this / reasons NOT to do it?
    thanks,
    Adam

    Hello,
    Updating AD this way shouldn't cause any problems. After that operation you should verify that all modifications were successful.
    Thanks, I thought so. I will do the AD update ahead of SP3 and perform the necessary checks to ensure all is OK.
    Regards,
    Adam

  • Windows Server 2012 R2 - Join Domain fails (Active Directory)

    Well guys - I don't know what to do about this problem anymore...
    I set up a DC for my home network - Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation. Everything is set up fine - DNS, AD - I suceeded joining the domain with other PCs in the network.
    Problem:
    When I want to join the domain "lionnet.at" it tells me that it cannot find the network address after I typed in the domain admin password.
    The dns entries are fine - checked it with nslookup. The DC name is lionhead.
    nslookup:
    set q=srv
    > set q=srv
    > _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.lionnet.at
    Server:  lionhead.lionnet.at
    Address:  10.0.0.150
    _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.lionnet.at SRV service location:
              priority       = 0
              weight         = 100
              port           = 389
              svr hostname   = lionhead.lionnet.at
    lionhead.lionnet.at     internet address = 10.0.0.150
    I tried several solutions: editing the lmhosts/hosts file, deactivating IPv6, setting a static IPv4
    Any ideas on this?

    what the hell...it was an external soundcard preventing the join...i installed it a week ago - unplugged it - "Welcome to the domain lionnet.at!"
    Hi CloneBraveB,
    Glad to hear that you have solved this issue and thanks for sharing in the forum. Your time and efforts are highly appreciated.
    Would you please let me know the complete error message that you get when failed to join the problematic client computer to the domain?
    In addition, for a test, please select another computer and install the external soundcard again, then attempt to join the computer to domain. Did you reproduce this issue?
    By the way, would you please let me know more details of that soundcard?
    If any update, please feel free to let me know.

  • Error Extending 2012 R2 AD Schema for Exchange 2013 RTM/CU6/CU7 (for Office 365 attributes)

    Hello all,
    I am a sysadmin at a 3 campus school, and am trying to extend our AD schema to include Exchange 2013 attributes so that we can configure groups synced to Office 365 using DirSync. However it keeps failing at the same point each time.
    I have tried with RTM first, and then CU6, but I keep getting the same error and am unsure how to fix it.
    "repadmin /showrepl" says that our 3 DCs are replicating with no issues, and I'm trying to extend the schema using an "Enterprise Admin"/"Schema Admin" account on our schema master DC.
    Our domain/forest functional level is Server 2008R2, and we do not have an Exchange server set up already - if that helps.
    The PowerShell error is:
    PS C:\Users\rbbr\Desktop\Exchange> .\setup /PrepareSchema /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
    Welcome to Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 6 Unattended Setup

    The Exchange Server setup operation didn't complete. More details can be found in ExchangeSetup.log located in the
    <SystemDrive>:\ExchangeSetupLogs folder.
    And ldif.err says:
    Entry DN: CN=ms-DS-GeoCoordinates-Altitude,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=kurnai,DC=lan
    Add error on entry starting on line 452: Unwilling To Perform
    The server side error is: 0x20bb Schema update failed: duplicate OID.
    The extended server error is:
    000020BB: SvcErr: DSID-032603C0, problem 5003 (WILL_NOT_PERFORM), data 8379
    An error has occurred in the program
    The schema attribute "CN=ms-DS-GeoCoordinates-Altitude,CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=kurnai,DC=lan" does exist in the schema, but I don't know what to do or where to go from here.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    I just tried .\setup /PrepareAD /OrganizationName:kurnaicollege /IAcceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms, and got the exact same error as above.
    Is there a way to delete the offending schema attributes, or to force its overwrite or something?
    EDIT: I am also getting these eventvwr errors when running /PrepareAD, if it helps:

  • Error During Exchange 2013 Mailbox Transport Role Install On Server 2012

    I was installing Exchange 2013 on Server 2012.  The server is not a DC, but is a member of a domain with a 2008 R2 functional level, and I was logged in as a domain admin.  There has never been an Exchange instance on this domain.  I got past
    the prerequisite checks, and the installer showed 15 steps, so I walked away.  When I came back, I saw this:
    Step 8 of 15: Mailbox role: Transport service
    Error:
    The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
              $maxWait = New-TimeSpan -Minutes 8
              $timeout = Get-Date;
              $timeout = $timeout.Add($maxWait);
              $currTime = Get-Date;
              $successfullySetConfigDC = $false;
              while($currTime -le $timeout)
                $setSharedCDCErrors = @();
                try
                  Set-SharedConfigDC -DomainController $RoleDomainController -ErrorVariable setSharedCDCErrors -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue;
                  $successfullySetConfigDC = ($setSharedCDCErrors.Count -eq 0);
                  if($successfullySetConfigDC)
                    break;
                  Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("An error ocurred while setting shared config DC. Error: " + $setSharedCDCErrors[0]);
                catch
                  Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("An exception ocurred while setting shared config DC. Exception: " + $_.Exception.Message);
                Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("Waiting 30 seconds before attempting again.");
                Start-Sleep -Seconds 30;
                $currTime = Get-Date;
              if( -not $successfullySetConfigDC)
                Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Error "Unable to set shared config DC.";
            " was run: "Unable to set shared config DC.".
    The only option on the screen was exit, so I did.  I checked the start menu, and there were two new Exchange icons, but I did not click them.  I ran the installer again, and it detected an incomplete install, the only option was to click next to
    finish the install, so I clicked next.  This time, I eventually got the same error, except the screen showed "Step 8 of 15: Mailbox role: Transport service."  I did install some Exchange 2010 prerquisites on the server before Exchange Server 2013
    came out, and I can rebuild the server and try the install again if that would be best, but I thought I should post here first and try to work through this since the product is so fresh.  Any suggestions?

    I've tried three times since my last post, following
    http://msexchange2010.info/archives/2330 as closely as possible the most recent time.  I am consistently getting the same error that appears to imply I don't have write access to the domain.  I don't understand this, because I am using the
    same domain admin account I have been using all along.  Nonetheless, here is the powershell output starting with the first Exchange setup.exe step (all other steps were already performed, all available updates were installed, and the server was rebooted
    prior to this):

    I am cleaning out in ADSI and rebuilding the server for now, because the server is behaving oddly (not as oddly as it was with 6GiB, but oddly, nonetheless).  I probably won't try to install Exchange again before tomorrow.  What should I do to prevent
    encountering the above again and/or if I encounter it again?
