Exchange 2013 finds an old Exchange 2003 server

We have a new MS Server 2012.   We are trying to install Exchange 2013
We migrated from an MS SBS Server 2003.    We migrate AD over.   The SBS 2003 is no longer on the network.
When I try to install Exchange 2013.  I receive an error.
Error:
One or more servers in the existing organization are running Exchange 2000 Server or Exchange Server 2003.  Installation can't proceed until all Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 are removed.
Any and all help is appreciated.

The correct supported method I believe is to ensure that you uninstall the old Exchange server from SBS as part of the migration, before you demote the SBS server and remove it from the domain, otherwise you end up with old records remaining in Active Directory.
If you still have the old SBS server available and it hasn't been demoted then have a look at the steps listed here
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg563804.aspx
If that's not possible the other option is to remove the old records via ADSIEdit as detailed here
https://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/exchange/en-US/46ca107c-7ece-4da7-8aea-46b705793f37/removing-old-exchange-and-installing-a-new-one however you should be aware that while it reportedly does work this is not a supported method.

  • Exchange 2013 "451 4.7.0 Temporary server error. Please try again later. PRX5" Error

    I know this error message is discussed on other topics on several different forums including TechNet but I ended up opening this as the suggestions that solved the problems with the previous threads dos not work on mine.
    We have a ticketing software that runs on client computers which sends mails to local Exchange server for notifications using port 25.
    Approximately 1 out of 5 mails end up getting the "451 4.7.0 Temporary server error. Please try again later. PRX5" error. I have confirmed this by running Wireshark on the clients, saw the exact error message. This has been replicated with
    several client machines running Win7 & 8.
    I have tried several solutions to this, one of them being this:
    http://www.techieshelp.com/exchange-2013-451-4-7-0-temporary-server-error-please-try-again-later-prx5/
    I still get the same error from time to time after doing this, so it is not the issue. All the records in local hosts file, receive connector is listening to port 25 on all IPv4 addresses.
    The server has a single NIC and the DNS lookups are done through that single NIC, not through "All available adapters" as set by default on ECP.
    Almost everyone seems to be convinced that this is related to DNS but looking at how fast I get the error message, it doesn't look like it's waiting for a timeout (maybe unrelated, just an observation). Do you think it is possible that the DNS servers themselves
    are causing this issue?
    Also, I see Event 5504 on the primary dns server almost all of them coming from the mail server, saying that the DNS query was invalid. It may be related.
    Additional Notes:
    - CU6 is applied but did not fix the issue.
    - None of these have solved it for me: http://www.servolutions.com/support/articles/Temporaryservererror2013.htm
    - Receive Connectors do listen to separate ports 25 & 2525 -> There is a single instance of both Transport Service and Edge Transport service respectively. Anonymous users are accepted in both Receive connectors.

    Thank you for your post.
    This is a quick note to let you know that we are performing research on this issue.

    Thank you Niko. I'm looking forward to your answer as I've gone through every post regarding this and none of them worked. I will let everyone know if I can find a solution to this.

  • Migrating Users from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 Without redirection through exchange 2013.

    We have all our users and mailboxes on Exchange 2007 and I have introduced two Exchange 2013 servers in my organization and both have mailbox and CAS server installed on them.
    With Exchange 2007 server, I had not modified any of the internal and external url/uri and had stayed with the defaults.
    For migration most of the documents are suggesting of changing the default internal URL and Auto Discover Service internal URI values.
    In my case, I want to migrate all the users and mailbox (everything that is on Exchange 2007) form 2007 to 2013 and decommission exchange 2007 completely from our organization.
    I am in the phase of transferring users from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 and do not want to change any settings on the existing 2007 servers.
    I have created new dns entry mailx.abc.com with two IPs of both exchange 2013 and changed the Outlook Anywhere internal URL on both Exchange 2013 server to mailx.abc.com.
    So by doing these, I think all existing clients will still connect to exchange 2007 and after moving their mailbox they will be connect to exchange 2013.
    In short I am not redirecting or using 2013 as proxy for 2007 clients and clients whose mailbox is on exchange 2013 will directly connect to 2013 server.
    Questions are, Is this the right way to migrate all the users to Exchange 2013?
    Will it affect the operation of existing Exchange 2007 server?

    Read the below blog on Client Connectivity in Exchange co-existence. There can't be better blog than this on this topic.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2014/03/12/client-connectivity-in-an-exchange-2013-coexistence-environment.aspx
    Clients connect to Exchange from Internal-Outlook, External-Outlook, Web & Active Sync.
    For Internal the configuration that you have mentioned should work as clients would get Autodiscover information from Active Directory (SCP) and get connected to right server.
    However, for external connectivity it makes sense to use External URL on Exchange 2013 servers (keep the Exchange exposed to Internet), configure legacy URL for exchange 2007 and use Exchange 2013 external URL for mailboxes that are Exchange 2007 and Exchange
    2013 for standardization.
    Refer article for configuring URLs -

  • Exchange 2013 Sp1 Coexistence with Exchange 2010 SP3 CU5 HTTP 500

    I`m trying to make working OWA coexistence between Exchange 2013 SP1 and Exchange 2010 SP3 CU5.
    When user login in to OWA where his mailbox is located  on Exchange 2013 server it logon successful and owa opened. When i try to login to the same url with user whose mailbox is located on Exchange 2010 server  i get Error http 50
    The website cannot display the page :   HTTP 500   »https://URLEXCHANGE2013/owa/auth.owa«
    The same is, when i use https:// URLEXCHANGE2013/ecp?ExchClientVer=14
    URL on Exchange 2013 are different  as fro Exchange 2010.
    I even tried to setup Internal URL for Exchange 2010 to bi set to »null ,Saem error
    Exchange server 2013 Sp1 is installed on Windows server 2012 R2.

    Assumption  is correct. I have even  enable verbose logging, and i can see MSExchange Front End HTTP Proxy , that successfully connect to Exchange 2010 server.
    But remember Exchange 2013 is fresh installation on  Windows server 2012 R2.

  • Autodiscover after deploying Exchange 2013 CAS in a Exchange 2007 organization

    I am deploying Exchange 2013 CAS in a Exchange 2007 organization. Will all the clients be directed to the Exchange 2013 CAS servers for autodiscover. Will there be any issue with outlook clients connecting to their mailbox servers in Exchange 2007

    All clients should be pointed to the Exchange 2013 CAS for the autodiscover service. This means:
    A. For local clients
    You need to modify the autodiscover Internal URI on the Exchange 2007 server and point it to Exchange 2013. For example, if you are using split-brain DNS on the Local Network and mail.yourdomain.com is resolved to Exchange 2013 local IP, the Exchange 2007
    Autodiscover Internal URI should be "https://mail.yourdomain.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml"
    Exactly the same way, you should modify the Exchange 2013 Autodiscover Internal URI and use the same address "https://mail.yourdomain.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml"
    B. For remote clients - all clients will hit the Exchange 2013 CAS first (ex. mail.yourdomain.com)
    If the user's mailbox is on Exchange 2007 server, the correct XML will be generated and provided, and the user will be proxied for Outlook Anywhere/ActiveSync and redirected for OWA/WebServices
    If the user's mailbox is on Exchange 2013 server, the correct XML will be generated and provided
    Bottom line - based on the location of the user's mailbox, Exchange 2013 will generate and provide the correct XML file (there is not proxying involved in providing the Autodiscover info).

    Dear colleges, I seek your help with ExchangeServer 2013 installation on a Hyper-V server issue I've been having.
    Getting below errors during prerequisites check of XCHG SVR installation. Installation is done on a Hyper-V server. This server is member of a domain. I have also promoted this server to a Active Directory Domain Controller. In other words there's 2 AD DC
    - one is on the main server and the other on this one. The user the installation is run under has ALL required access rights. Please advise as this issue is getting on my nerves. I believe something is wrong setup on a AD DC part. Please suggest what to check
    and post on the forum, so somebody can just point out what I am doing wrong.

  • Migrating Exchange 2013 public mailboxes to a new server

    We have a client that is leaving their current Hosting company and wants to move to our hosting facility. We have recreated their DC,an Exchange Hub, and Exchange Store. We have exported and imported all of their recipient mailboxes and flipped the switch
    and all mail flow is now going through our hosting facility. The problem lies in that I can not figure out how to move the public mailboxes out of the old exchange server and import it into the new server. Both are Exchange 2013 and running on windows server
    2012. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You're looking at a third-party product.  MigrationWiz does public folders.  There are other cloud-based migration solutions, but I don't know whether they support public folder migrations.

  • Error During Exchange 2013 Mailbox Transport Role Install On Server 2012

    I was installing Exchange 2013 on Server 2012.  The server is not a DC, but is a member of a domain with a 2008 R2 functional level, and I was logged in as a domain admin.  There has never been an Exchange instance on this domain.  I got past
    the prerequisite checks, and the installer showed 15 steps, so I walked away.  When I came back, I saw this:
    Step 8 of 15: Mailbox role: Transport service
    Error:
    The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
              $maxWait = New-TimeSpan -Minutes 8
              $timeout = Get-Date;
              $timeout = $timeout.Add($maxWait);

              $successfullySetConfigDC = $false;
              while($currTime -le $timeout)

                try
                  Set-SharedConfigDC -DomainController $RoleDomainController -ErrorVariable setSharedCDCErrors -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue;
                  $successfullySetConfigDC = ($setSharedCDCErrors.Count -eq 0);
                  if($successfullySetConfigDC)
                    break;
                  Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("An error ocurred while setting shared config DC. Error: " + $setSharedCDCErrors[0]);
                catch
                  Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("An exception ocurred while setting shared config DC. Exception: " + $_.Exception.Message);
                Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Info ("Waiting 30 seconds before attempting again.");
                Start-Sleep -Seconds 30;
                $currTime = Get-Date;
              if( -not $successfullySetConfigDC)
                Write-ExchangeSetupLog -Error "Unable to set shared config DC.";
            " was run: "Unable to set shared config DC.".
    The only option on the screen was exit, so I did.  I checked the start menu, and there were two new Exchange icons, but I did not click them.  I ran the installer again, and it detected an incomplete install, the only option was to click next to
    finish the install, so I clicked next.  This time, I eventually got the same error, except the screen showed "Step 8 of 15: Mailbox role: Transport service."  I did install some Exchange 2010 prerquisites on the server before Exchange Server 2013
    came out, and I can rebuild the server and try the install again if that would be best, but I thought I should post here first and try to work through this since the product is so fresh.  Any suggestions?

    I've tried three times since my last post, following
    http://msexchange2010.info/archives/2330 as closely as possible the most recent time.  I am consistently getting the same error that appears to imply I don't have write access to the domain.  I don't understand this, because I am using the
    same domain admin account I have been using all along.  Nonetheless, here is the powershell output starting with the first Exchange setup.exe step (all other steps were already performed, all available updates were installed, and the server was rebooted
    prior to this):

  • Setup Error 1603 with Exchange 2013 incl. SP1 on Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hello all,
    i've started the installation of a new Exchange 2013 with SP1 in a Windows 2012 R2 environment. New AD, no Exchange previously installed. Exchange ISO from
    Volume Licensing Service Center (Filename: SW_DVD9_Exchange_Svr_2013w_SP1_MultiLang_Std_Ent_MLF_X19-35118.iso)
    All the prerequisites are ok, installed also the “Unified Communications Managed API (UCMA) 4.0″ as requested.
    Setup.exe i've started with "run as administrator" and all went well, until Step 11 of 15 (Mailbox role:Mailbox service).
    Setup stopped and gives an error:

    Thanks for your help
    Bruno

    Hi,
    From the error message, the cabinet file 'EngineInstanceData.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. I'm afraid you have to download a new ISO for Exchange 2013 incl. SP1 and run the setup again.
    If it still doesn't work, I recommend you remove the failed Exchange server installation, then re-install Exchange server.
    Best regards,

  • Exchange 2013 OWA/ECP HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

    So I know there are a lot of these threads, so I'll list what I've done and what I've tried so far.
    The setup is a pair of multirole servers with a DAG.  We have a root domain and sub domain.
    I've created 4 databases associated with the DAG, I successfully removed the default database on the 2nd mail server, then migrated the arbitration/system/discovery etc... mailboxes to one of the DAG databases.  I then removed the 1st mail server's default
    database after killing it's healthmailbox.  Rebooted the pair of servers and after that the ECP/OWA were inaccessible.
    To run tests I installed .NET 3.5 SP1 so I could run the ExBPA which really didn't get me anywhere.
    I can access the logon screen for both, but when I enter my username and password, I get the http 500 internal server error.
    I have used: Get-OwaVirtualDirectory -Server <server name> | fl *auth*
    To verify that basic and forms based auth are enabled, and they are.
    I've verified all services have started.
    I've tried to remove and re-add the app pools and the ecp virtual directories.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/ie/en-US/bb148ccb-a75e-4571-bfc7-76950f8e638e/exchange-2013-cu2-cant-access-ecp-unexpected-error-500?forum=exchangesvrgeneral
    I've tried to use ADSI Edit to purge the Canary Data.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/777b51ee-330d-43cc-a56e-4614d44aed7b/unable-to-access-owa-or-ecp-something-went-wrong-or-500-unexpected-error?forum=exchangesvrclients
    I've tried to run test-ecpconnectivity but stated that the test user wasn't available.
    So I tried to use the powershell script to create a new test user, but it doesn't seem to work either I think it's related to the exchange machine not being a member of the root domain, but not sure on that one.
    I seem to be able to manage everything with command-line still.  Create and remove mailboxes etc.
    As far as errors/warnings go exchange wise I get an ASP.NET 4.0 warning Event ID 1309 stating that an unhandled exception occurred, which seems to coincide with the logon attempt.  I'm sure this has something to do with it, but not real sure what yet.
     Nothing I can see within the logon attempt from IIS or anything else really.
    I think that's about all I have.

    Hi,
    Please check on the Application Pools to view whether OWA and ECP Application Pool is running on .NET Framework v4.0. It maybe the incompletely installation of Framework that causes this error.
    If so, We can try to run the following command as Administrator:
    %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regiis.exe -i
    Or change the MSExchangeECPAppPool from .NET Framework from v4.0 to v2.0. Then restart IIS to have a try.

  • Configuring IIS and DNS for Exchange 2013 running on Second Win2012 R2 Server

    Hi Folks,
    I have a Windows 2012 R2 Server with Essentials role and I'm running a Hyper-V instance of Windows 2012 R2 with Exchange 2013 installed joined to domain.  I have been through the wizards and the Exchange Server deployment wizard but I'm stuck with configuring
    DNS records correctly.
    Currently I can browse to https://remote.contoso.com externally and internally which works as expected but not https://remote.contoso.com/owa or any other Exchange pages.  All I get is 404 - File or directory not found.  However if I browse
    internally to https://exchangeserver.domain.local/owa it works. So I'm guessing 404 is coming from the DC server not the exchange server.  Hence I think its DNS.
    Although I have noticed that IIS is on the DC and the Exchange server, showing different Sites.  Does this have anything to do with the issue at hand.  Also the guides are not perfectly clear on how to add the DNS CNAME records.
    Would someone be so kind as to point me in the right direction.
    Thank you

    Hi Jatin,
    It turned out to be a little more involved in the end.  I had to call Microsoft in the end.  ARRconfig wasn't running correctly and after creating a new certificate it was able to run successfully.  I'm waiting for the detailed report which
    will hopefully explain the issue with Bindings between the two IIS on Essentials and Exchange 2013 which was also and issue.
    Then I had an issue trying to connect Outlook clients to Exchange.  The resolution for this was:
    Created new SAN certificate with issued to name as “mail.pinewoodonline.co.uk” using the CA server
    OutlookProvider EXCH and EXPR value was not set
    Set OutlookProvider EXCH and EXPR value as “msstd:mail.pinewoodonline.co.uk” by running the below command
    Set-OutlookProvider EXPR -Certprincipalname msstd:mail.pinewoodonline.co.uk
    Set-OutlookProvider EXCH -CertPrincipalName msstd:mail.pinewoodonline.co.uk
    All seems good now.  I will post the report as soon as I get it.  This took 6 hours on the phone to Microsoft.  Wasn't easy.
    Thanks
    Brandan

  • Outlook can't connect with Exchange 2013 after migration from Exchange 2007

    <style type="text/css">P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; }</style>
    Hello,
    recently we've done a Exchange 2007 sp3 to 2013 sp1. Users can conect perfectly with OWA and with his iphone clients.
    But the problem is they can't connect from his Outlook clients (2010, 2013), both internaly and externaly. Always fails with the message: The Connection to Exchange it is not avaliable.... Can't resolve the name of Exchange server.
    To try to resolve it we've done:
    - Check Outlook anywhere configuration en EAC: it is configure with and external url mail.company.com and internal server.domain.local. The security is the default Negociation, but we've tried all.
    - Check the internal dns, there are records for mail.company.com and exchangeserverdomain.local pointing to the exchange local ip. Also there is a public zone company.com with the record mail.caompany.com pointing to the exchange local ip. Also we've made
    records autodiscover.company.com and autodiscover.domain.local pointing to the exchange local ip.
    - In the public dns from our domain there is the record A and MX pointing our public ip. There aren't any record Autodiscover but we think that the manial conection should work.
    Check certificates: we've made a new self-signed certificate including all this internal and external domains and for all services.
    - Check Outlook Anywhere block: we've cheked.
    Currently server state:
    - Old Exchange 07 server can't start, it was in very bad state and we achieved migrate the mailbox to the new server, after that we tried to uninstall, but it crashes with a public folder replication error. We got uninstall all the roles
    unless the mailbox. After a restart it can't start.
    -The new Exchange 2013 looks great, there isn't any trail of the old server, or we haven't seen anything in the EAC or shell.
    I paste below the result of Microsoft Remote conectivity analaizer, with Outlook anywhere test. It is clear that there is a problem with that.
    Sorry because the test is in spanish and I translated it with google, from here I only can access the tool in spanish.
    We continue to try to resolve the problem.

  • Migrate clients from Exchange 2013 to a different Exchange 2013

    Hi,
    We are planning to migrate an Exchange 2013 instance to a centralized one. The question is how to deal with the Outlook OST mail files left over from the old instance and were wondering what best practices in this regard there may be.
    Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.

    Hi,
    Do you mean you want to migrate mailbox from one Exchange server to another Exchange server? If it is, we can directly move the whole mailbox to another mailbox server instead of Exporting/Importing a mailbox to PST file.
    If you want to migrate a large number of user mailboxes, we can
    specify a CSV file when you use the Exchange admin center (EAC) or the New-MigrationBatch cmdlet in the Exchange Management Shell to create a migration batch.
    Here are some detailed information about mailbox moves in Exchange 2013:

  • Exchange 2013 co-existence with Exchange 2010 proxying issue.

    Hello,
    I am testing Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 co-existence in my test lab at the moment, with
    a view to migrating our production environment to 2013 later in the year.
    The lab is setup, and the problem I'm having is that internal Outlook clients cannot open
    their respective mailboxes once the 2013 CAS server is introduced into the mix.
     The
    setup is listed below:
    EXCHANGE 2010 Servers
    TESTLABEXCH01 - CAS,HT,MBX - Exchange 2010 SP3
    TESTLABEXCH02 - CAS,HT,MBX - Exchange 2010 SP3
    Both servers are part of a CAS Array - casarray01.testlab.local
    Both servers are part of a DAG - DAG01.testlab.local
    RpcClientAccessServer on all 2010 databases set to casarray01.testlab.local
    The A record for casarray01.testlab.local points to the IP of the VIP of a load balancer.
    The loadbalancer serves
    the following ports: 25,80,443,143,993,110,995,135,60200,60201
    OutlookAnywhere is enabled on both servers:
    ClientAuthenticationMethod : Ntlm
    IISAuthenticationMethods   : {Basic, Ntlm}
    Internal and external mail flow works without issue before the 2013 server is introduced.
    Internal and external client access works without issue before the 2013 server is introduced.
    Part Two to follow.....
    Matt

    EXCHANGE 2013 Servers :
    TESTLABEXCH03 - CAS,MBX - Exchange 2013 SP1
    OutlookAnywhere is enabled on the server:
    ClientAuthenticationMethod : Ntlm
    IISAuthenticationMethods   : {Basic, Ntlm}
    RpcClientAccessServer on all 2013 databases set to casarray01.testlab.local
    (This an inherited setting I assume from the pre-existing 2010 organization)
    Split DNS is in place and all internal/external URL's point to either:
    autidiscover.external.com
    mail.external.com
    The A record for the mail.external.com points to the IP of the load balancer VIP
    The CNAME record for autodiscover.external.com points to mail.external.com
    When the TESTLABEXCH03 is added to the load balancer config,
    and given highest priority this is when the Outlook clients stop working.
    Any existing profiles in Outlook 2010/Outlook 2013 can no be opened as there is a persistent
    credentials prompt.
    Upon trying to create a new profile, the process errors when reaching the "Log onto server"
    stage and again prompts for credentials.
    Running the test-outlookconnectivity cmdlet from
    either of the 2010 servers produces the following results.
    [PS] C:\Windows\system32>Test-OutlookConnectivity -Protocol:http
    ClientAccessServer   ServiceEndpoint
    Scenario                            Result  Latency
    TESTLABEXCH02  autodiscover.external.com    Autodiscover:
    Web service request.  Success  343.20
    TESTLABEXCH02  casarray01.testlab.local       RpcProxy::VerifyRpcProxy.
    Success    0.00
    TESTLABEXCH02  casarray01.testlab.local         RFRI::GetReferral.
    Failure   -1.00
    TESTLABEXCH02  casarray01.testlab.local        NSPI::GetProfileDetails.
    Failure   -1.00
    TESTLABEXCH02  casarray01.testlab.local
    Mailbox::Connect.                   Failure   -1.00
    TESTLABEXCH02  casarray01.testlab.local
    Mailbox::Logon.                     Skipped   -1.00
    If remove the 2013 CAS server from the loadbalancer config and
    all connections go directly to the 2010 servers again, all of the above tests pass and Outlook connectivity is also restored.
    IIS has been reset on all 3 servers incidentally, following any changes made whilst troubleshooting.
    I'm struggling to see what I'm missing here, if anyone can assist in troubleshooting this
    matter further, or point out any errors in my setup it would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Matt

  • Exchange 2013 Transport Rules and Exchange 2007 Decommissioning

    Hello,
    I recently migrated from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013, I do have a few traces of Exchange 2007 in the Active Directory that I would like to completely remove. The Exchange 2007 server failed earlier and wasn't decommissioned properly. I read a few articles
    on how to completely remove it from AD, I am still concerned to make the changes in "ADSI Edit".
    Here is the error message I receive when creating transport rules in Exchange 2013:
    "You are about to create a rule in an organization where Hub Transport servers running Exchange Server 2007
    exist. To ensure the rule is applied consistently across all Hub Transport servers in the organization, you must create an equivalent rule from the Exchange Management Console on an Exchange 2007 server."
    I also noticed that the version of the rules remain Version: 14.0.0.0 for any new rules that I am creating in Exchange 2013.
    I would really appreciate if someone can provide their views and the best practices to remove the traces of Exchange 2007 in AD.

    Hi Sathish,
    How about the result after using ADSI Edit ?
    Best regards,
    Niko Cheng
