Exchange 2013 Recoverable Items\Versions folder stays empty

Hi All,
I need some clarifications on Recoverable Items Folder.
Versions: If either litigation hold or single item recovery is enabled and If a user modifies an item, a copy of the original item is placed in the Recoverable Items\Versions folder, by a process called copy-on-write page protection. This
folder isn’t visible to end users. (Visible via MFCMAPI though)
I don’t seem to be practically achieve this with Single Item Recovery Enabled.
The Versions folder stays empty irrespective of edits(saves) I make on emails located in Inbox, Deleted Items or elsewhere.
I would really appreciate some light here on how to get this going.
NOTE:- Deletions and Purges folder are working just fine.

Thank you Allen and Shweta for your response.
Sorry for not being clearer earlier. Below are the current settings for the user.
I have already enabled SingleItemRecovery for the user and checking the 'versions' folder using Get-MailboxFolderStatistics cmdlet and MFCMAPI tool.
What I want is to get the versions folder count\size to increase, how can I get that tested.
Please  guide me through the steps to make edits on the email items to make this happen.

  • Exchange 2013 SP1 RU4 Public Folder Permissions

    Hi All,
    Exchange 2013 SP1 RU4 Public Folder Permissions
We have a weird problem after migrating our PF from Exchange 2010 to 2013.
Users do not have permission to create or delete in PF even thou they have owner permissions.
    Example:-
I have created a  '\test1' folder in the root which has the following permissions (this works OK):-
    Myself - Owner
    Default - Author
    Anonymous - None
I have created another folder '\admin\test2' folder which has the same permissions as above but i get the "cannot create the folder. you don't have appropriate permissions to perform this operation"
I get this problem across all of the folders that were migrated. clean folders created at the root with the correct  permission function as per expected.
    Regards
    Paul Sheldon

    Hi,
I recommend you use the Get-PublicFolderClientPermission -Identity publicfolder command to check the client access permissions to a public folder.
If possible, please remove permission and re-add permission to check the result.

  • Exchange Online (O365) and Exchange 2013 On-Premise, Public Folder issues?

    Hello,
I have recently migrated from Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 on premise (decommissioned the old server) and migrated my public folders to the new mailbox architecture found in Exchange 2013.
We are also hybrid setup with Office 365 and Exchange Online (AD FS and Password Sync). For our on-premise Exchange we use Split DNS.
What I am trying to do now is give my Exchange Online users the ability to see our on-premise public folder infrastructure however I am not having any luck in getting this to work.
On premise I have the "PublicFolderMaster" mailbox which is the Primary Public Folder Mailbox, and PublicFolderMailbox1 which is the secondary mailbox (where all the public folder data is).
How do I configure my Exchange Online to allow the users to see on-premise public folders? I tried..
    Set-OrganizationConfig -PublicFoldersEnabled Remote -RemotePublicFolderMailboxes PublicFolderMaster,PublicFolderMailbox1
In my O365 user's Outlook I see Public Folders, but when I try to expand it I get an error saying unavailable...
    What am I doing wrong?

Or must I follow all these steps in addition to the last step above?

  • Exchange 2013 - powershell - create search folder for items larger than 24mb

    Hi all,
is it possible to use PowerShell and create search folder in spesific mailbox that contains items larger than 25mb?
    Thanks!
Please mark as helpful if you find my contribution useful or as an answer if it does answer your question. That will encourage me - and others - to take time out to help you. Thank you! Off2work

    Ok this should be possible.
I just tested a basic idea of what you want to do on Exchange 2010 SP3. IF you need me to test on 2013 let me know.
Add the account you want to run the powershell search as to the "Discovery Management" role in AS or ECP.
This gives you access to the "search-mailbox" command. Using this you should be able to build a search that moves mail to a different folder.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/dd298173(v=exchg.150).aspx
    Thanks,
Edit: something like this would help but the target mailbox would be there own I guess
Search-Mailbox -SearchQuery “Size:>25MB” -TargetMailbox SomeMailbox -TargetFolder Export -LogOnly -LogLevel Full
Ok so I have found a issue where the command does not allow the source mailbox to be the same as a target mailbox. I dont know if this will help you then unless you go through a long process of moving the mail out then back but thats very long.
You could create a rule for this but it would have to be run manually with specific settings so I guess that might not work as user training can be difficult.
You could write a VBA macro for this and then apply it to all you machines.
Or there is a 3rd party tool that could help you called
    Auto-Mate
Sorry I could not be more helpful.
    Good luck

  • Result Folder & Log Folder stay empty

    Hi.
I've setup and created everything to schedule & run my Oracle Report, which I've tested manually (works). However, if I schedule the report, and specify the log to go to "Logs" folder (I created it manually), and the result to go to "Results" folder in my content area, it doesn't show up ? I checked the scheduler logs, and the report completed. So it definately ran.
    Any ideas ?
    Thanx
    Marcel

Well last night my Google Calendar sync started messing up again and was syncing only one way. I deleted Google Sync using my DM, then reinstalled it. So far today it seems that my calendar AND my inbox are working properly. This is the longest I've gone in awhile without the problem reappearing.
I don't know why Google Sync should have anything to do with a disappearing inbox, but maybe it was a Google/Gmail issue. Fingers crossed that this is a good fix.

  • Exchange 2013 - Public Folder Mailbox and Single Item Recovery

    Hello,
I recently had a request to recover some messages that an ex-employee deleted from the "recover deleted items" folder in their public folder. Since this resides on a public folder mailbox and it does have the option for
"Single Item Recovery" to be enabled on the box (which I enabled not knowing if this really works or not), is there a way I can still recovery these items or do I have to go to a backup to obtain those messages. Since ExFolders does not work that
is not an option. I've seen commands to restore a public folder that was deleted but not items that were deleted directly from a public folder. I checked using MFCMAPI and I do see the dumper root and the public folder dumpster for each folder but it
looks to be only the "deletions" folder and don't see anything similar to a "purges" type folder. Any ideas or am I stuck recovering from backup? Thanks in advance!

So I think you are stuck and will need to restore the EDB to a Recovery Database to restore the items because when the end user purged the items from the "Recover Deleted Items" it removes them from the Recoverable Items/Deletions folder.
    Check out this article
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/08/23/recovering-public-folder-information-in-exchange-2013.aspx
I have not played with the recoverable items settings on the 2013 public folder enabled mailbox EDB  but you might try checking out Litigation or In Place Hold to use as a safety mechanism moving forward.  That said this will also increase the
DB size so consider all the options before implementing
Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 -->
    2007 --> 2010 --> 2013 with Lucid8's

  • Single item recovery in Exchange 2013

I am looking for some help in identifying the simplest process to recover a single item in Exchange 2013 in a scenario where the item is no longer available in the dumpster (i.e. a retained deleted item).
In Exchange 2010 the process was:
Restore the mailbox database from backup to the Recovery database
Restore the item using the Restore-Mailbox cmdlet with the -AllContentKeywords parameter to identify and restore the individual item (or items) to a target folder in the user's mailbox.
The Restore-Mailbox cmdlet is no longer available in Exchange 2013.
I guess one possible option is the following:
Restore the mailbox database from backup to the Recovery database
Restore the mailbox to a dummy mailbox (or Discovery Mailbox) using New-MailboxRestoreRequest.
Use the Search-Mailbox cmdlet to find the item in the dummy mailbox and restore it to a target folder in the user's mailbox.
It just seems like a very long-winded method to restore a single item. Any way to do this better?
    Alexei

    Hi ,
In exchange 2013 single item recovery work as follows .
Scenario 1 : Items from the deleted items folder and also the hard deleted items (shift + delete) will move it to the dumpster (i.e deletions folder) which is an sub-folder in recoverable deleted items folder. On that deletions folder items will be retained
    based upon retention period .
Scenario 2 : In case if we move the items from the deletions folder it will get move in to the purges folder (if single item recovery is enabled) .purges folder is also one more sub folder for recoverable deleted items folder .
In purges folder items will be again started to get retain for the whole retention period (I mean to say retention period count will not get calculated from the day when it moves from the deletions folder to purges) instead again that particular email item
start to get retained till the whole retention period get's over .
You can use  mfcmapi tool and e-discovery search in exchange 2013 to recover the items which is moved from deletions folder to purges folder.

  • Exchange 2013 Public Folder Error

When I try to create a Public Folder in Exchange Admin Center for Exchange Standard 2013 I get an error that says: "The process failed to get the correct properties".   If I create the Public Folder from shell "New-PublicFolder -Name

  • EXCHANGE 2013 Public Folder Migration across Domain Forest

    Hi
I am planning to migration public folder across the forest but unable find any documentation. can you guys share the step by step guide to move/migrate public folder. we have exchange 2013 in source and target forest.

  • Migration questions from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

    Dear Forum Members,
I'd ask just two short questions, regarding a migration from Small Business Server 2008 (Exchange 2007) to 2013. We installed the two Exchange 2013 servers, configured a DAG and updated every single URL (OWA, ECP, AnyWhere, Autodiscover etc.) to be a mail.domain.com
record (DNS round robin, since no HW load balancer :( )
Thankfully, the mail flow between the Internet and the other Exchange 2007 users are still working. Now for those users I've already migrated, if I check outlook connections there are several connections for GUID based servers via the DNS Round Robin
name proxy (the AnyWhere address). But I saw that there are still just one connection (type: Exchange Public Folders) to the old 2007 server. Is it okay? I'm a bit afraid to uninstall it because of this.
And the other thing: Based on what I wrote, do you think I've done it good? Or could I miss any important things? You are much experienced than me in these migrations so I hope that I can get some confirmation/advice here :(
ps: Is it good if I set NTLM authentication for Outlook AnyWhere?
Thank you really much for your help,
    Best Regards,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
Agree with Hinte, the user will still connect to the exchange 2007 server if there is a public folder database in the old server.
If the old public folders are no longer in use, you can delete the public folder database and create a new one in the exchange 2013 server, you can also consider migrating public folders to Exchange 2013 .

The Outlook Anywhere authentication method you choose will depend on a few factors in your environment,

  • Cross-forest access to public folders Exchange 2013-2007

    Dear.
We have an Exchange 2007 org in one forest and an Exchange 2013 org in another forest.
User accounts remain in the 2007 AD, mailbox moved to Exchange 2013 in the other forest, so a linked mailbox.
What do I need to do in the Exchange 2007 public folders to give the migrated mailboxes (not migrated users) access to these public folders?
    Thanks for the support.
    Regards.
Peter Van Keymeulen, IT Infrastructure Solution Architect, www.edeconsulting.be

    Hi Stephen,<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
Do you have trust between Exchange 2007 forest and Exchange 2013 forest? Please set up a trust between the two forests. Then set the public folder client  permission
to see if we can access the
    public folders.<o:p></o:p>
    <o:p> </o:p>
If not, since Public folder cross forest migration is not supported in from an Exchange 2007/2010 forest to an exchange 2013 forest, refer to forum:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/51da1b97-fbb1-4f81-87da-c3370960c4ab/crossforest-public-folder-migration?forum=exchangesvrdeploy

Title: Migrate Public Folders to Exchange 2013 From Previous Versions<o:p></o:p>

    So for public folder migration,
the only supported path is cross forest 2007/2010 to 2007/2010 and then inter forest 2007/010 to 2013. Or
we can first export all the public folder to PST from the Exchange 2007 forest, then import the PST to the Exchange 2013 forest.

  • Custom Folders in Exchange 2013

    Hi-
Is there a way to push out additional standard folders to each Exchange 2013 mailbox?  If I wanted each user to have a 5 year, 3 year, and 1 year folder, is this possible?  Is there some type of script?  Someone mentioned to me that there
is a .NET app that uses built-in Exchange functionality to deploy folders to user’s Exchange mailboxes--an "Exchange Folder Generator."
    Thank you-
    John

    Hi John,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create the following custom folders for Exchange 2013 mailbox:
    1 year folder: All items received 1 years ago;
    3 years folder: All items received 3 years ago;
    5 years folder: All items received 5 years ago;
    Is it right?
If that is the case, I think there is no feature in Exchange to achieve it.
As a workaround, we can consider Ed’s suggestion to create retention policy. The retention tag
specifies how long a message remains in a mailbox and the action to be taken when the message reaches the specified retention age.
Please note that when a message reaches its retention age, it's moved to the user’s In-Place Archive or deleted instead of being moved to another custom folders.

  • Exchange 2013 and Exchange 2010 coexistense

We have a and exchange 2010 organization with SP3 on most servers except for one 2010 CAS server that still requires SP1 for the purpose of legacy application compatibility. Can we introduce exchange 2013 in the org or will the setup detect
that there is an exchange 2010 server still with SP1 and fails to continue?

    Hi,
For Exchange 2013 coexistence with Exchange 2010, the mininum version of Exchange server is Exchange 2010 SP3 on all Exchange 2010 servers in the organization. For more information about it, please refer to the Coexistence of Exchange 2013 and earlier versions
of Exchange server part in the article below:

"The item cannot be saved to this folder. The folder was deleted or moved, or you do not have permission. Do you want to save a copy of it in the default folder for the item?"
when try save an existing contact after modification.
I can assure you that user permissions, server configurations are ok; please, help me.

Did you make the subfolder the correct type, i.e., a contacts-type folder?
