Exchange Address Policies

Can you show me your Address Book Policies?
We have custome one with priority 1, that applies all the appropriate email domains to a user.
However there is also a Default policy (priority Lowest) that adds @internaldomain.local and  X400 c=US;a= ;p=internaldomain;o=Exchange;
Do I need both of those? I haven't seen them listed in tutorials on Address Book Policies, most just have the external mail domain

Hi,
For the problem "To add it to everyone's mailbox is it best to create a new email address policy as we want to keep the current one, but not as the default? "
The answer is yes.
We can change the priority of an e-mail address policy, however we can't change the priority of the Default Policy. The Default Policy's priority will always be "Lowest". If we want to move a particular policy up the list, highlight the policy and click
Change Priority in the Action pane. We must have at least two EAPs aside from the default in order to see the Change Priority Action pane option.
And here is an article about how to apply an E-Mail Address Policy for your reference.

  • E-mail Address Policies

I currently have three e-mail address policies, two of which were inherited from an Exchange 2003 environment that is long gone.
The problem that I'm trying to resolve is the e-mail addresses that are added to Mail Contacts when created.
When attempting to modify the policy that I think is causing my problem I cannot modify via Console or Shell, I get a message indicating "The specified e-mail address policy couldn't be edited. E-mail address policies created with legacy versions of
Exchange must be upgraded using the 'Set-EmailAddressPolicy' task, with the Exchange 2010 Recipient Filter specified.  When I look at using "Set-EmailAddressPolicy" it indicates that I will also need to specify the recipient filter.  The
email address policies that I want to modify currently do not have a Recipient Filter specified so what should I use for a recipient filter?
OR can I just use ADSI edit and just edit the CN=Recipient Polcies object and remove the gatewayProxy value that I no longer want added to mail contacts safely?

    Hi Meyer,
    Great information from MaxxSound.
Additionally, if may have multiple recipient policies in operation, they will all need upgrading.

  • Domain.local proxyAddress and Email Address Policies!

    Hi,
I have inherited an Exchange 2007 organization.
The organization has several public domains (Different departments require different domains) with one overarching domain.
The default Email Address Policy is the only email address policy set up which has the following:
    [email protected] (PRIMARY)
    [email protected]
Therefore all users are getting these two addresses. For the users who require another domain email address Helpdesk staff are going into their accounts in EMC and manually adding the email address required and setting it to primary (Leaving the
Automatically update email address based on recipient policy ticked...)
I have a few issues here:
Issue 1: Office 365 DirSync Readiness Check is complaining that I have proxyAddresses that are not publically routable (domain.local). How do I go about resolving this? Does editing a Email Address Policy cause everything to be re-evaluated? I am thinking
I could go in and remove the domain.local entry (I am assuming it is not needed?) but then would simply applying it cause issues?
Issue 2: I am assuming if I/or anyone were to re-apply the Email Address Policy it would set all users primary smtp address to
[email protected] It would not delete the extra email addresses manually added as it is only an additive function?
Issue 3: Is there a dynamic way of dealing with the situation of users who require the different email addresses? I am aware I could create several Email Address Policies which would work if a new user were to be created with matching criteria, but how would
I design this so that if a user moves from one department to another their email address policy would be re-evaluated and the new address would be added and set as primary? Can I use OU or an attribute etc.?
    Any help would be appreciated...

    Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. As far as I know, the name domain.local cannot be published externally by any CA. Then I recommend you create a accepted domain for example domain.com and a related Email Address policy.
    2. We can add multiple email addresses for one mailbox and set one email address as the primary address.
    3. Based on my knowledge, we can manually select the primary email address.

  • Email Address Policies not applying

    Hi,
Before installing Exchange 2010 in our domain, we accidentally deleted few users, and restored back again. However, after installing Exchange, we can see that EAP are not applying to these users, but works fine for other users. Is there any tweak we can
apply to make EAP apply (ADSIEDIT, or other tool)?
    Thank you for any help

    Hi,
Is the e-mail address policy your default
e-mail address policy or a new policy you created before?
If the e-mail address policy is a new created policy, we can use the
Update-EmailAddressPolicy cmdlet to apply an e-mail address policy to all recipients:
    Update-EmailAddressPolicy -Identity EMAIL_ADDRESS_POLICY01
We can use EMC to check whether the problematic users are listed in the
    Default Email Address Policy preview:

  • When to Upgrade Email Address Polices

We are currently have a Co-Existence 2003 and 2010 Environment.  The Email Address Policies "Default Policy" and the custom ones are still in 2003.  My Question is when to upgrade them to 2010? I have read a couple of different
guides and some say do it before moving mailboxes and some say upgrade them last after Exchange 2003 has been removed.  My problem currently is if I create mailboxes in Exchange 2010 if assigns the wrong email address as it using the
    default profile.

If your custom policies handle the mailboxes in England, then yes.  I am not 100% sure I understand your second question, but I think it means you have multiple Windows domains and that you would move the account to London.  Moving the account
to a London domain doesn't move its associated mailbox - you also need to move the mailbox from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010.

  • The Microsoft Exchange Address Book was unable to log on to Exchange

I am currently migrating a exchange 2007 to exchange 2013.
Exchange 2013 is installed on a seperate Windows Server 2012 server.
Exhange 2007 is installed on a  seperate Windows Server 2003 R2 server.
I have moved some mailboxes from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013 and also created some new mailboxes on the exchange 2013 server itself.
OWA, ActiveSync , IMAP are all working correctly for those mailboxes , but I am not able to connect to outlook with the exchange option (local connection).
    Outlook 2013:
When I use autodiscover to connect to the exchange server step 1 & 2 are working correctly (establishing network connection & searching for mailbox settings) but on the 3th step (logging on to the mail server) I receive the following error
The name cannot be resolved. The Microsoft Exchange Address Book was unable to log on to Exchange. Contact you system administrator if the problem persists.
When I filll in the exchange server manually (using the normal servername server.hq.corp.domain.local not the guid version) the check name resolves correctly and the profile creation is finishing ok. But when I try to open outlook with that profile it gives
    me the following errors :
    with cached exchange mode selected:
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook windows. The set of folders cannot be opened.
You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data file (.ost)
    with cached exchange mode deselected:
Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook windows. The set of folders cannot be opened.
Microsoft Exchange is not available. Either there are network problems or the Exchange server is down for maintenance
When I use the Microsoft Connectivity Analyzer it fails on the following step:
Testing the address book "Check Name" operation for user [email protected] against server [email protected]
An error occured while attempting to resolve the name. Elapsed Milliseconds: 91 Additional Details: The address book bind operation failed with status -2147221231. NSPI Status 2147746065

    Hi,
Please run the following command in Exchange server to get Exchange GUID:
    Get-Mailbox UserA | FL Identity,ExchangeGuid
Then open Outlook, click File > Account Settings > Account Settings > Change (If you can’t open Outlook, go to Control Pane > Mail to change it). In Server Settings, import the [email protected] into the Server box and click Check Name
    to have a try.
If the name is checked successfully but also can’t open the profile, please close Outlook. In the Start menu, Run command (Windows key + R), type or paste
outlook.exe /resetnavpane  (Note: Make sure there is a space between the words.)
Then press Enter (or OK button) to restart Outlook

  • Hide from Exchange Address list works in EMC but not from ADUC

We are using Exchange 2010 Version 14.3 (Build 123.4) in a 2008 AD environment. When hiding users from the GAL we found when performing this task from AD Users and Computers the box is check and we verify that it is checked in EMC but the user remains
visible. This can be an active user or a disabled user. The results are the same. But when checking the box "Hide from Exchange address list" in the EMC the change is visible instantly. We can verify that both in the GAL and from OWA. It had worked
prior but now is no longer effective from ADUC even though the box is checked in the EMC. I can check the box in ADUC and verify in Power shell HiddenFromAddressListsEnabled : True yet the user is not hidden. I assume that ADUC is fully integrated with Exchange
but the changes are only effective from Exchange

There are 3 2008 DC. I can see the change instantly on the EMC and in Power Shell. When the changes are made via the EMC the changes are instant. When made from ADUC they never update. I think you hit the nail on the head with the versions. I have only been
here about 10 months and recently (2 months ago) fully decommission our 2003 Exchange which was hanging around for some time. Since I had experience I followed procedure and decommissioned the 2003 environment. Now as far ADUC my copy is Active Directory Users
    and Computers Version: 6.1.7601.17514
I can assume from what I am reading that even though the check box and tabs for Exchange can be added, they do not function completely from ADUC? I just need to provide our Help Desk with a "best practices" They have been disabling and hiding users
via ADUC for years and claim it just stopped working.
So is it a correct statement that Exchange 2010 and above attributes can no longer be changed via ADUC?

  • Importing Exchange Address Book Into Mail

So I setup my exchange account without any issues but I'm somewhat struggling to figure out how to import my company (exchange) address book. Can anyone assist?

OK, any Contacts you have on the Exchange Server are now in your Mac's Address Book. Right?
So I think that you are after the "contacts" that are in the Global Address List, which contains all the addresses within you companies domain and which is maintained on the Exchange Server.
From what I know the Global Address List is only available when talking against an Exchange 2007 server.
    Apple says:
"Now with Snow Leopard, the Mac has out-of-the-box support for Microsoft Exchange Server 2007, something even Windows PCs don't have. Instead of using Outlook to access Exchange services such as email, calendar invitations, and Global Address Lists, you’ll use Mail, iCal, and Address Book."

  • Email Address Policies

    Hi Guys
we need to readdress, with a new primary smtp address, a large number of users,  (this is due to an company re branding/structuring - but within the context of the existing AD/Forest)
currently all (95%) of users have the address @legacycompany.com at the primary smtp address
we need to create 3 new email address policies to change the primary SMTP address to the following
users who will belong to the newcompany_a to have @companya.com at the primary smtp address
users who will belong to the newcompany_b to have @companyb.com at the primary smtp address   --- and so on
can we create either new security (or distribution) groups which represent the new companies i.e. companya , putting each AD account in the relevant group and filtering the email address policy by membership of this group
so in essense when each policy runs it check the user against group membership and adjusts the primary smtp address accordingly
    Cheers

I believe the answer for this is on the -DisabledEmailAddressTemplates,
-EnabledEmailAddressTemplates and -EnabledPrimarySMTPAddressTemplate parameters of the New-EmailAddressPolicy cmdlet, however I haven't been able to make it work as you want it to...
Do you have a test environment where you can test this? Note that when you create the policy, it doesn't get applied straight away which allows you to check to which users it will get applied beforehand. Not sure if it helps...
What you can also do is include the existing e-mail address policy on your new policy (and make that the default) and add the new one as well. Let's say you have [email protected], you create the policy with @company.com the default (EnabledPrimarySMTPAddressTemplate )
and companya.com a secondary (EnabledEmailAddressTemplates). Heven't try this, but I would expect it to work...

  • (Exchange) Address Book will not SYNC

I've had issues for a couple days now..
We were struggling with some BESAdmin security issues. but they've been resolved.
but one of our blackberries out of 4 will not sync with his address book on exchange.
    i've re-activated his account.
    i've pushed service books.
i've check the PIM settings and they're fine..
i've tried everything and i'm getting ragged on because he's a boss.
please help! any tips or ideas..
it's a 8310 on the Rogers network.. we have 2 others the same model without any problems.

So in the Address Book Options the Wireless Synchronization is set to Yes? Was the device wiped and re-activated at any point, or just re-activated?
I'd try to deleted the Desktop[SYNC] service book, regenerate the encryption key from the device, and undelete the Desktop[SYNC] service book.
If that doesn't work you can force a sync with the Desktop Manager. First in the Address Book Options change the Wireless Synchronization to No. Then go into Backup and Restore | Advanced. Select the Address Book on the right side and hit Clear. Now go back into the Address Book Options and change the Wireless Synchronization back to Yes. That will force a sync from the Contacts folder to the Address Book on the BlackBerry

  • Lost Exchange Address Book

After the upgrade to SL, I had many duplicate contacts and groups. Looking in the ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book folder, I found two 'AddressBook-v22' files. I moved the older file to the desktop, and the issue of duplicates was resolved. However, I lost all my connections to the Exchange 2007 address book. What is the best way to resolve this?
Update -- I did the obvious and recreated the Exchange account in the address book preferences and I am re-connected to our server. But again ... I have a host of duplicate address book entries that show up when I click on 'All Contacts.' They do NOT appear when I select 'On My Mac.)
Interestingly, I have two AddressBook-v22' files again: One at ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book and another one layer deeper at ~/Library/Application Support/Address Book/Address Book. Interesting to see the nested 'Address Book' directory.

    Thanks ...
I ended up doing something I didn't really want to do, that is deleting all my contacts on our Exchange server and retaining my address book records.
My Exchange contacts came from Entourage, prior to SL, and were mostly simple duplicates. After the upgrade to SL, I had nearly 6,000 entries in my Address Book and response time was beginning to lag.
Not the best or most elegant choice, but I've never found AB to handle large collections well.

  • Email Address Policies Troubles

    Hello,
I'm busy working on a multi-tenants Exchange 2013, and I have interesting situation I'd need help with.
    Setup:
A resource forest with an empty root domain and a sub-domain where Exchange servers are installed,
Multiple forest where "human"users will live.In the Resource sub-domain I have created one dedicated OU / tenants,  the linked mailbox
user are stored under the right OU.
I try to setup Email Address Policy based on the Recipient Container, so that User in OU Tenant001 get an e-mail address %1g.%[email protected]
The policy is created, the "apply to" simulation in the EAC shows the rights recipient.. BUT the policy never gets applied (and i did run update-emailaddresspolicy more than needed)
I have tried all the possible way to do it, I can't get them properly applied.
Intersting fact: If i create a local mailbox (thus not a linked mailbox), the policy applied properly.
any idea where I should look ?
    thanks,
    Chris

    Hi,
According to your description, I understand that you have an issue about email address policy cannot apply to linked mailbox.
Please try to perform DJ Grijalva’s steps, then use following command to check whether the e-mail address policy is used for linked mailbox:
    1. This example finds the GUID of an e-mail address policy abc.com.
    Get-EmailAddressPolicy -Identity "abc.com" | FL GUID
    2. This example lists the members of an e-mail address policy by using the GUID of the e-mail address policy abc.com.
    Get-Recipient -Filter {PoliciesIncluded -like '{82025f12-8000-4d5e-8059-c052f9355125}*'}
Otherwise, I find an extend question about Exchange 2007 Linked mailboxes created by import-csv do not have Email Address Policy properly applied, for your convenience:
