Exchange backup from separate 10Gb network

Hi,
is it possible to add to my Exchange 2010 DAG servers another IP address from separate network only for 10Gb backup. Backup is made from NetBackup software. My regular traffic will be default, but DAG backup traffic on new 10Gb network.

Hi,
It is possible to implement a dedicated backup network for DAG.
If you have dedicated dedicated backup networks, then you would actually have to perform some manual steps after your DAG is setup. The backup network should be ignored by the DAG for cluster use.
For more details, you can look at the blog Willard Martin provided above.

  • Can't find my data from Time Machine network backup

Migration assistant shows inconsistent sizes for applications, computer settings and other files/folders, about 30GB when I had 270 GB only in pictures.
I did a clean Mavericks install.
How do I find my data from the TimeMachine network backup?
The size of the TimeMachine backup is consistent with what I had before ( >300 GB)...so how do I recover it?.
I'm using a new user account name in the clean installation.
    Thanks

Read a few threads about this being a problem with account access, so I renamed the account in my new installation to the account name used to create the backup and found the old accounts....now when trying to proceed it told me there was a conflict with the account name and i had to use a different one!!.
Apple has stopped to be simple...
So how are we suppose to use the migration assistant if either way there is a problem? ( using same or different account name )...

  • How to take Auto backup from External Network Drive to Mac pro internal Dri

    Hi,
I have a External Network Drive (Buffalo 1TB) which i use as a server, now i need to take auto backup from that external drive to the Mac i am working on, which has 2TB Internal hard Disk.
Please could anyone help me on this.....
    Thanks in advance

If you are looking to actually integrate what you have on the external one terabyte hard drive with the 2 TB hard drive you're using inside the Mac the best move for you if you want access to that data when using the Mac Pro server is going into utilities click on the top bar where it says go fall that down to the utilities told them that folder quickly once you are there you will see migration assistant click on that you will be asked to type your admin password to that. It will ask you "how do you want to transfer your information" then select from a Time machine backup or other disk when it asks you will be transferring information to your Mac Pro from your 1 Tb backup external hard drive once it's finished eject the drive or reformat it and use it again if your objective was to infect keep compress the data on the external so you have more space but do not have access to it I strongly recommend Carbon Copy Clone 3.3.1 is 100% free and does a fantastic job here is the link http://www.pure-mac.com/downloads/carboncopyclonerdl.html of copying every block to create an exact replica of your source hard drive. If you want something different and don't mind paying SuperDuper! is a great product as well this WebSite will have many options I would stick to carbon copy clone http://www.pure-mac.com/backup.html I also like EMC Retrospect backup and recovery software for the Mac it is a great product but very much on the expensive side for backup utilities although if you need word offers this might be right up your alley.
    I hope I wasn't help,
    Sincerely,
    Thomas

  • Moving older TM backups from USB drive to Network drive

How can I safely move previous Time Machine backups from a USB connected external drive to a Network connected Western Digital hard drive, after I have performed a full backup to the new drive?

Here is where you should be able to find that answer from our expert TM user:

  • Can I use accounts in the Airport Utility to keep backup from multiple macs separate and separate?

Can I use accounts in the Airport Utility to keep backup from multiple macs separate and separate?

Backups from multiple Macs are always kept separate. Each Mac TM will create its own sparsebundle and will not interfere with others.
Using the accounts in AU will simply make each sparsebundle only accessible to that user.. ie it is a purely a security measure.. that is so weak as to be useless .. anyone can bypass it by pressing the reset for 1sec.
And what it will do is cut off everyone from their existing backups.. you will be warned when you set it up that what is about to happen may not be 100% goodness.. pay attention.. it is not.

  • Monitoring Exchange 2010 from external network

I would like to monitoring the following services pf Exchange 2010 from external network / internet
    1) SMTP (To confirm the mail has been accepted for delivery)
    2) ActiveSynch (Mobile device can login and synch different folders)
    3) WebApp (Users can log and access mail)
I have created a script using test-Mailflow, test-activesynchconnectivity and Test-WebServicesConnectivity and running it on server from LAN. I want to monitor the above 3 areas from Internet(external network) to make sure these services are available
    from Internet.
We have Barracuda as SMTP gateway, TMG for WebApp and MobileIron for ActiveSynch.
Will i be able to monitor these services from external network(internet) using test commands. What are the alternate ways to monitor the above services from external network.
    Thanks

We are trying to build exactly similar to ExRCA. ExRCA is good but it is manual. We would like to build something similar to ExRCA which can monitor exchange services periodically and send alerts.

  • How to recover a TM backup from a NAS drive

I am using a MBPro from 2011. I lost a lot of family pictures due to my iPhoto library loosing the connection to the original hi-res files. At the moment I try to recover those with Data Rescue4 but it looks I lost quite a lot.
Now, I do have the following situation:
Until March 2014 my iPhoto Library resided on my Mac HDD
The HDD broke and had to be exchanged
So I moved the iPhoto Library onto a newly bought 2TB external HDD that I connect via USB (a WD MyPassport Ultra)
Now due to the situation described above, I need to recover the last iPhoto Library that resided on my Mac, but which was never used in iPhoto since the hardware crash
When I open iPhoto and then TimeMachine, it does not offer me to recover pictures from that last backup, which is from March 2014 and is about 135GB large. I assume the reason is that I haven´t used it in iPhoto, so iPhoto can´t know.
The TM backup on my NAS, a 4TB Seagate Central is 1,2 TB large. The seagate central cannot be connected to a Mac via USB or wire. According to it´s description, the only way to get data on and off is via ethernet. Having read that TM does not support backing up from a NAS, I assume I need to copy the 1,2 TB backup TM file onto another external HDD that I can attach via USB. Is this correct ? Does this help ?
And then I would need to recover it - but how given the situation above ??
I am pretty desperate meanwhile as I´ve been working on this for the last four weekends...
Within the process of data recovery I bought iPhoto Library Manager, PhotoSweeper and DataRescue4 in order to help recover the data. But I don´t know if this helps here. I´ve tried everything to recover my old files with those tools already.
I would very much appreciate your advice on how to recover my TM backup.

You can or should be able to recover the iphoto library directly from the NAS.. you do not need to copy it to a disk.
TM cannot create a backup from a network source.. but it is very happy using a network target.
Our friend Pondini wrote extensive notes on recovery of various important files using TM
    See Q15 here. http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html
There is a link in there to recovery of iphoto in particular under various OS.. but the guy died before Yosemite was inflicted on the Apple Community.
TM has never worked particularly well since Yosemite.. so I can only offer my hope that the method still works..
Here is an example of recovery manually of iphoto library from TM backup I did to show how it is done.
Can't access old files on time capsule
In Yosemite you might be able to simply right click on the file in Finder.. and it bring up an option to recover it from TM.. of course that would assume TM was going to actually work and that is a bridge too far for Yosemite.
In the end.. you can of course do a full recovery to a USB drive plugged into your computer.. I have also used that method to get around issues with finding stuff from old backup.. however IMHO the manual method of digging through the backup offers you the best chance of recovery.
Do protect the TM sparsebundle.. in the end that is the only connection back to you files you have.. so saving a copy of the sparsebundle to a USB drive is not a bad idea.. Certainly do nothing in terms of manipulating the sparsebundle.. you can extract files from it.. copy it to another location.. but make no changes to original sparsebundle on the network drive whatsoever.. so do not continue backups to it or anything like that.
My strong recommendation btw since Yosemite or even Mavericks was to use Carbon Copy Cloner.. and make a bootable backup of your main operating system and any other drives.. You would not be in this mess if you had .. so for future reference.. TM is not really adequate.

  • Need to create a Separate Wifi Network @ Office

At my small biz, I have AT&T (formerly Bellsouth) High Speed DSL...  Runs into a Motorla DSL Modem for the Internet connection, then to a Cisco PIX for our Firewall.  I can hang an Airport off the network, but our iOS devices can't pull Exchange Email if connected to the wifi.
So I'd like to hang the Airport off the DSL Modem... I first tried with an old Airport Express, wifi network was fine, but couldn't get Internet no matter how I set it up.  The DSL Modem is making the connection, but I'm unsure how I create the Separate Wifi Network with the Airport connected directly to it.
I'm going to use a Time Capsule A1254 rather than the Airport Express... a little direction would certainly help.
    Thanks!  Scott

The Motorola is a Netopia 3347-02-1022 gateway device.  We do authenticate with PPPoE, which is being managed on the 3347.  We have a static IP, the PIX gets the internet from the 3347, our domain controller handles DHCP.
I assume that you are getting a single static Public IP address from your ISP and that is is "applied" to the 3347 gateway's WAN interface ... correct? I am also assuming that the 3347 is handling the NAT service with your DC handling DHCP for the issuance of Private IP addresses on the local network.
The AirPorts are consumer-grade routers and do not offer any VLAN functionality ... other than the Guest network feature of the 802.11n Extremes and Time Capsules. As such, any VLAN-type network "subnetting" would not be possible. At best, you can enable NAT & DHCP in combination to allow the wired/wireless networks behind the AirPort's NAT to have a different Private IP address range. Note: There is no option to disable DHCP separately with the AirPorts. You basically have three options: 1) NAT & DHCP enabled, 2) NAT disabled & DHCP enabled, or 3) Both NAT & DHCP disabled. These options are controlled with the Connection Sharing option on the Internet Connection tab of the AirPort Utility.

  • I recently updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, and lost 1200 odd contacts. I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago avaiable.  Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore which i assume will literally delete any new contacts added...?

I recently updated my iPhone 4s to ios6, and lost 1200 odd contacts. I recently sold my macbook air and also my mac book pro, so have no recent backups avaiable.  I have a backup from about 4-5 months ago available on an external hdd as a time machine backup.  Can I add/update contacts from the back up rather than restore?  The reason i wish to do this is because in the update i didnt lose any messages, so all of the people i have met and networked with since that last update those many months ago, i have in my messages listings.  They are all unidentified numbers at present but over time i will be able to work through the messages and based on the conversation recall who each was with.  Also, yesterday, some two weeks after the update had left my contacts list entirely empty... a vast majority just reappeard, though all of them are without any phone numbers, all just emails or facebook contacts.  This is the work of facebook not mac/ios6 isnt it...?  Any help here would be greatly apprecaited.  I am about 2 days from flying to canada and having those contacts would make life a lot easier.

You should be syncing your contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service (iCloud, Gmail, Yahoo, etc), and not relying on a backup.  If you haven't been doing this, start now and then restore your old backup.  You will then be able to sync the new contacts back into the phone.  However, you will lose all messages, etc newer thant the backup.

  • How can I move my iPad's iTunes backup from one user to another?

Is it possible to move my iPad's iTunes backup from one user to another, so as to change which user the iPad is syncing to without deleting any app data? Currently the iPad is synced to one user on my iMac, and I would like to transfer it so that it will sync with a different user on the same iMac (using iTunes, of course). I'd like to replace content from the old user's iTunes library with my user (eg. music, movies), but I don't want to loose app data in the process if I can avoid it.
I have tried to use the pathway /Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup but my iMac doesn't seem to have a MoblieSync folder. I wouldn't know what to do with the backup anyway though.
Can anyone help me or is this request too complicated, difficult, or impossible? Thanks for your help!

The Apple Document covers this. See the footnotes of my google docs
I've done this, it is easy, but takes time and patience.
On the existing mac with OSX and Configurator:
    ========================================
    - run disk utility and verify your disks are ok, a must
    - make note of the user logged in when using configurator  such as "bob"
    - connect a new or newly reformatted USB formatted for Apple
    - run time machine and backup to the USB
    - Take the mac off the network,
    - Buy a new mac
    - setup the mac with a new logon account like Paul or  "bob2"   do not use BOB !!
    - finish the new purchase setup, get to your desktop
    - now run the migraiton assistant  moving bob from the USB to the new mac
    - reboot, logon as bob, launch configurator and connect just one ipad.  Test

  • Time Machine couldn't complete the backup due to a network problem

Firstly apologies for the long post, I've been bottling these problems up and could now use some expert advice.
I have a MacPro (10.6.3) with four internal drives (320GB system/apps. + 3x 750GB data, images etc) and a MacBook Pro (10.6.6) with a 320GB internal. With so much accumulated data (Mac user since SE FDHD) I wanted a reliable means to backup all my projects, books, papers, research, images etc. I had several bad experiences using Iomega drives (Ultramax and Storcentre) which were not very Mac compatible and shifted over to a 10TB LaCie 5Big Network 2 which is promoted as Time Machine compatible. Set up Time Machine (with a few hiccups) in Sept 2010 and it ran perfectly, backing up both main computers until March 2011. I have now experienced a string of problems backing up the MacPro, some of which have been resolved speaking to people, some by checking forums and some by using my own noddle to figure it out. The latest error message I am getting is "Time Machine couldn't complete the backup due to a network problem. Make sure your computer and the backup disc are on the same network, and that the backup disc is turned on. Then try again to back up."
The circumstances of this are as follows: TM seems to be trying to completely back up everything already backed up from previous months so I am using the "exclude" option to do this in manageable chunks (5.54TB of 7.99TB is available so there is a lot of stuff on there, hence my reticence to erase and start again). I started a backup last night which said it was 242GB and when I came back hours later (I estimate 30GB and hour or 500MB a minute) it has failed with the error message above. I asked it to back up again and it said it now had 191GB to backup, at the next failure it was 142GB, dropping by approx 50GB a time (if there a maximum it can manage in one go?), the next time it was starting again with 242GB.
I checked the disc it was backing up to, discovered it was now selecting Public-1, re-selected Public which houses the macpro.sparsebundle, dropped the backup size (Options) to 73GB and set it off again and it is backing up as I write. I am hoping it will complete and permit another chunk to be backup but the fact it looses network connection (seemingly) or has a maximum backup in one go, is annoying because it means you cannot leave it overnight and trust it to do the backups.
The other problem seems to be a shut down by LaCie 5Big because several times (and once this morning) I have had this message "The file server "LaCie 5Big" has closed down, followed by a complete Lacie shut down and auto-reboot with all lights and whistles. Lacie think this could be a power supply problem and say they are sending me another power brick. They also say they do not support Time Machine (they should check their own literature) and suggest I use LaCie 5Big for 'drag and drop' backup. If I wanted to do that I could pick up a cheap and nasty HD from PCWorld, not this high end 10TB drive which cost over £1,000 !
For a while y'day I could not even find the Lacie on the network but after changing the ethernet cable from Lacie to router (Linksys) it miraculously re-appeared so that problem may have been the original Lacie blue ethernet cable had developed a fault. Checking cables is an oft-overlooked option.
A catalogue of errors, some solved, others still all pervading, so any words from the wise would be gratefully accepted.

I verified the macpro.sparsebundle and Time Machine backups in Disk Utility and it said both appeared to be Okay in green type. So that did not solve the issue. I did a Disk Utility repair a day or so again (despite Verify saying everything was fine) and said there was nothing to repair. I suspect two problems, the power brick may be faulty producing intermittent power and maybe causing the drive to close down (hopefully Lacie will send me a replacement to try) and second, I am thinking the network connection is getting dropped causing crashed backups without the Lacie shutdown/reboot sequence. The 73GB back up failed, I started it again at 54GB and it failed again, just started it again at 45GB - this is no way to progress!
Perhaps the relatively new (last year) Linksys router is the problem, I find my MBP says AirPort is active but it fails to appear in Go>Server unless I switch it off and on again and perhaps a similar problem drops the connnection to the Lacie.

The password is set on the WiFi router providing the service, by the owner of the network to prevent unwanted "guests" accessing the network.  The only way to know it is to ask the owner permission to use the network.  Otherwise, you  have to find a free WiFi hotspot that doesn't require a password.
