Exchange DataBase is in Dirty ShutDown State

Hi ALL,
I am not able to mount the Data Base in Exchange Server 2010, I have run “Eseutil /mh” and confirm that Data base is in Dirty shutdown state.
Now, can any buddy tell me the step by step procedure to make it in Clean shutdown state.
Subs

HI Shubi,
Zahir have provided very good article to make clean shutdown your DB. Please try to run "eseutil /mk" swicth against check point file and see if any remain log files is not commited. In this case you can use "eseutil /r /e01" (Base file can be change) and
try to recover it.
Some more information.

  • Exchange crash during move request, new DB in dirty shutdown

I had a hardware failure (storage controller in VM environment) during a mailbox move request to a new DB.  After fixing that and rebooting, the old database came up and is fine which is great.  The new database is in a dirty shutdown state right now with a few completed but most are still queued or in progress.  If I try to remove the request on the completed mailboxes it has a message along the lines of, couldn't connect to mailbox database, it could be dismounted.  Do you want to orphan the move request for user XYZ?
Will this cause any problems?  I would like to remove the move requests and proceed recovery and repair of the dismounted DB.  Thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • Exchange 2010 Dirty Shutdown

    hi ,
We have DAG implemented Server A & Server B , Server A is on production enviroment & server B is holding passive database when I am checking health of Server B database it is showing database is dirty shutdown . How can I fix that please help

How you check exchange health which likely to show as "database is dirty shutdown" ?
Though, you can run with Eseutil.Exe tool to repair corrupt database and recover the mailbox again.
    Check-out this
link for detail information and step-wise process.
However, sometimes Eseutil does not correct the problems at the application level. In such scenario, you can have try this
utility which would a best approach and good solution in order to repair corrupt exchange database and restore all the data content in previous used values.

  • Dirty Shutdown: 0

Hi. Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'll ask it anyway.
Does "Dirty Shutdown: 0" in an ESE event 327 mean "Dirty Shutdown: No", i.e. the database shut down cleanly? I'm guessing "0" means "No"; and that "1" would mean "Yes, it *was* a dirty shutdown",
but I can't find this explicitly stated anyahere.
Reason I ask is that I dismounted a mailbox database in order to move EDB and log paths, the move failed, and the database then wouldn't mount for an hour. (After 30 auto-retries it succeeded.)
In looking for the cause of the problem, I found, among other Application Log entries:
"Information DD/MM/YYY HH:MM:SS ESE 103 General Information Store (3720) <Database-Name>:  The database engine stopped the instance (4). Dirty Shutdown: 0"
and I'm trying to establish whether this means the shutdown was or wasn't dirty. Thanks.

Those are normal events and are to be expected when activating another store (1) versus dismounting and remounting a store (0).
Also the DB when mounted is ALWAYS in a dirty state and upon completion of a proper dismount it should be clean.
before you do a move I would take a look at the # of transaction logs since the more there are the longer it will take to complete the move.  if there are an excessive # of logs you may want to do a full backup first to truncate the logs and then do
    the move

You may need to go to bios setup and go to boot setup and designate the optical drive as first boot device.

  • WS-2924-XL-EN switch has VLANs other than 1 in ADMIN SHUTDOWN STATE

I have configured this on a 2900XL before and I did not have any problem. Today I went to configure a 2900XL. I went into VLAN DATABASE and said
    vlan 40 name building4
    and then exit.
I went to config terminal and configured:
    interface fa0/24
    switchport access vlan 40
    switchport mode access
    no shut
    int vlan40
    no shut
    end
Now when I do show run it shows a shutdown statement under VLAN 40 and
show int vlan 40 shows that it is administratively down.
    What am I doing wrong?

Remember this is a layer 2 switch . You can only have one layer 3 SVI active at one time and it will shutdown all others . The ip is to manage the switch only and has no routing function . If you want to use vlan 40 as the management vlan then you have to manually shutdown vlan 1 or whatever vlan is currently up and then "no shut" vlan 40 . Obviously then your ip addressing and default gateway would have to be in the correct subnet of the layer 3 router supporting this switch.

  • Maximum number of user mailboxes supported by single Exchange Database in 2007 / 2010 & 2013 ?

What is the Maximum number of user mailboxes supported by single Exchange Database  in 2007 / 2010 & 2013 ?
    Aditya Mediratta

Agree with Keith, there is no MB # limit, however there are practical concerns such as DB size and how that effects recoverability as well as performance.   In terms of extremes we had one major educational customer that had 35K Mailboxes in
a single database so you can utilize a ridiculous # of mailboxes in a DB if desired.  IMO you are better off to keep the # of mailboxes to a reasonable level, i.e. no more than 250-500 mailboxes per DB

  • Exception Message=Unable to connect to the VMM database because the database is in an inconsistent state.

    Hello,
I have a problem with SCVMM 2012 R2, it always gives error when tries to "Run the dynamic optimizer" process. The process starts automatically every 30mins. When I analyzed report.txt file I found error message:Exception Message=Unable
to connect to the VMM database because the database is in an inconsistent state.Contact an experienced SQL administrator whenever this error occurs. In some cases, it may be necessary to restore the VMM database. If the problem persists, contact
    Microsoft Help and Support.
NOTE: If I start the process manually, it completes without any errors.
    Any help would be appreciated

I'm led to believe this is a bug in UR5 and I think it was a bug in VMM 2012 SP1 RTM.
Our TAM says this will be fixed in UR6. We had to turn off Dynamic optimizer or we could have rolled back to UR4 but there were other bugs in UR4 which hurt us more.

  • New-DPMRecoveryOption CopyToFolder for an Exchange database backup

I'm trying to restore an Exchange database from DPM 2010 into the file system using powershell. I'm able to perform this action in the DPM GUI simply by selecting the "Copy to a Network Folder" option. When I try this in powershell I
fail when creating the recovery option object. Here's what I'm trying:
    $Pg = Get-DPMProtectionGroup –DPMServerName "DPM"
    $Ds = Get-DPMDatasource -ProtectionGroup $Pg[0]
    $RecoveryObject = Get-DPMRecoverypoint -Datasource $Ds[0] | Sort -Property RepresentedPointInTime -Descending | Select-Object -First 1
$RecoveryOption = New-DPMRecoveryOption -TargetServer "DPM" -RecoveryLocation CopyToFolder -RecoveryType Recover -TargetLocation "f:\test"
    Restore-DPMRecoverableItem -RecoverableItem $RecoveryObject -RecoveryOption $RecoveryOption
I get the following error on the New-DPMRecoveryOption command:
New-DPMRecoveryOption : Parameter set cannot be resolved using the specified named parameters.
I've tried a few dozen permutations of the available options, but I continue to get the same error message. I'm not seeing much documentation to explain all these options. Any guidance is appreciated.

  • Exchange Database full backup

I can see there is a automated backup for exchange databases. Can we change the schedule ? Its running on busy production time which i need to change ?
Have anyone try this ? How to change/view or modify ?
    UMESH DEUJA MCP,MCTS,MCSA,CCNA

    Hi umeshdeuja,
Which Backup method do you use?
Exchange 2013 supports only Exchange-aware, VSS-based backups. Exchange 2013 includes a plug-in for Windows Server Backup that enables you to make and restore VSS-based backups of Exchange data. To back up and restore Exchange 2013, you must use an Exchange-aware
application that supports the VSS writer for Exchange 2013, such as Windows Server Backup (with the VSS plug-in), Microsoft System Center 2012 - Data Protection Manager, or a third-party Exchange-aware VSS-based application.

  • See file type information in Exchange database

    Hello,
    Just giving it a try.
Is there any way to see how much data there is in a Exchange database? We would like to know how much of out 8TB databases is used by PDF files.
    - Marcel

There is nothing from MS that I know of that will accomplish this out of the box, that said I can think of a fewq ways to handle.
    1. Write a custom EWS application as outlined here
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn148008.aspx
    2. Use the Exchange Discovery service to find and then export the items to PST and the size of the PST will be your answer.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn440164%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx
    3. Use a 3rd party product like Lucid8's DigiScope http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp
to do the search and then Export to PST to get the answer or if you want actual size of JUST the attachments you can have DS export the just attachments from the messages and then the total size of all exported attachments will be your answer.  DigiScope
also has the ability to Export items matching a criteria to PST or MSG and then to purge them from the Exchange server if desired.
NOTE:  You would need to obtain DigiScope 5.0 which is in final Beta since that is the version with support for 2013.

  • Automatically backup new exchange database on standalone Exchange server

    Hello,
I´m currently setting up a backup against a Exchange Server 2013. One thing I noticed when I added created a new Exchange database was that it was not automatically backup up by DPM.
I've checked the box "Exchange 2013 databases" but after I created the fifth databases I noticed that it was not automatically checked in DPM and also that the box "Exchange 2013 databases" was unchecked.
How can I make sure that new Exchange databases are backuped automatically?

    Hi,
DPM does not offer an exchange auto-protect feature like we have for SQL.  You will need to add them manually as they get created on the exchange server.

Not sure if "CreateLdifFromDisconnectedMailboxes.ps1" is available for Exchange 2010 and works in it (don't have Exchange 2010 test environment in front of me) but this script can create AD accounts from disconnected mailboxes available in Exchange 2007 Database.

That command seems to work for me.  Do you get an error when you run it?  What happens?  To answer your second question, the limit of the databases, the maximum supported size is about 16TB. Best practices are to keep the database to under
a 2TB or even smaller depending on your backup and recovery objectives.
