Exchange Global Address List search not showing name or email

I have an iPhone and iPad connected to a Microsoft Exchange server at work. When I search the GAL for a person in the company, the results are shown as the Company only (data coming from the 'Company' field on the Exchange server) instead of the contact's name.
Here are the steps I'm taking:
- I go to Contacts app, select 'Groups', then select 'Global Address List'
- I type in a name of a person I'd like to email. For example I type John to search for all the Johns in the company.
- I get a seach result that lists anyone with John in their name. The problem is the search results list the company name instead of the user's/contact's name. (If the 'Company' field is blank in Outlook/Exchange, I CAN see the user's name).
So my search results for John look like this:
COMPANY
COMPANY
John Smith
Sarah Johnson
COMPANY
COMPANY
COMPANY
John Deer
COMPANY

There is software available that would give you support for GAL and some other SP2 features on a S60 phone. Check here: http://www.dataviz.com/products/roadsync/series60/index.html

  • Is there a way to remove Exchange global address list from phone/Mail app?

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 7.0.3. Wondering if there is a way I can prevent an Exchange global address list from loading when I compose a message. I am only syncing Mail - not contacts or calendars. Also tried dropping and re-adding account to see if that did anything. This is a personal phone connected to company's Exchange account (legitimately) - I would like to reduce the chance that I incorrectly email a company employee from my personal account when composing a message.

That is what I expected Chris, but to answer your question - yes. I have two accounts setup with the Mail app - Gmail and Exchange. Gmail is the default even. When I am in the Gmail account, compose a new message, just typing "john" for example, brings up most recently used john's first, then all the Johns in my company. I really would prefer not to even have those names populate. Not sure if that can be prevented without dropping the Exchange mail account altogether. That is my question - and thank you for your reply.

  • IOS Global Address List search issues

We are having some problems searching for some users in the Global Address list on Office 365 from iOS devices. The only way to make them show up is to add a space after their name...so if I'm trying to find "Joe" I have to type in: Joe followed by a space in order to find him. However, not all recipients in the GAL are exhibiting this behavior, some can be found by just typing in their first name. I can type in "jake" and find all users, but if I type in "joe" it comes up with nothing.
I've verified there's no space after these user's name in AD, has anyone else seen this issue?
I have a post over on the Office 365 forums as well, but they suggested to reach out over here too.
    Thanks!
    -jake

Was able to resolve this with Microsoft Support for any that may have this issue too.  Apparently iOS has a minimum 4 character entry when searching the GAL, so names like Joe, Bob, Ron, etc. will not show up until you "enter" a 4th character in the form of a space.
Assuming this is an issue with all Exchange setups, but this was on Office 365 so your results may vary.  Interesting that this is not the case on OS X where 3 character GAL searches are fine.

  • Downloaded Global Address List does not download all fields

I have my Global Address List from the Exchange Server linked into an Access 2003 database. (Will not link to Access 2007, 2010 format).  There is one field (TITLE) that appears in the structure of the linked table but the data for that field is not
downloaded.  When I look at the Global Address List in Outlook, the TITLE field is populated with the appropriate data.  How can I get the data from the TITLE field into the Access linked table?

If I understood correctly, the data of TITLE filed didn't download in Access 2003. Also as far as I tested, this field works well in Access 2013.

  • How do I share Exchange Global Address List (GAL) across different forests without using federated services

We have two domains in separate forests, One forest has Exchange 2013 server, how do we get a constantly up to date Global Address list of users

    Thanks.

    Hi,
We can configure Global Address List (GAL) Synchronization with Forefront Identity Manager (FIM) 2010:

  • Talent Search not showing name for one employee

    Hi
I am facing issue in talent search, it is not showing employee name after search. This is happening only for one user, means surely it will be master data issue, application is working fine.
But now I want where to see that data maintained.
Please help with this if anyone knows about it.
    -Yogesh

    Hi Yogesh,
If it is only one employee that it isn't showing for then it could be authorizations. Some other suggestions are:
    - Incorrect or no name for CP object
    - Incorrect authorizations of user used for delta-indexing
My guess would to be to look at authorizations first.
    Best regards,
    Luke

  • I want to copy only the email address from Mail, not the name and email

When I get an email I want to be able to copy ONLY the email address and NOT the name.
Before I would click on an email, click on the email address and paste the email address to a list.
Now I do that and I get the name AND the email address, which makes me edit out the name every time. UGH.
    Mavericks 10.9.5

did not make a difference. If I copy from the email (that has a name & email) and paste to text file (Bbedit) the name and email still show. I do not want the name, just the email.

  • Display of names in the TO: filed from the Exchange Global Address List

We have a user whose "FIRST" name in Active Directory consists of two names. Like Mary Ellen or Bobby Jo. But both names have been enetered in the TO: field. She is very adamant that she be addressed by both names.
When she receives a message, and if details is clicked, she will see the names of all who the message has been sent to, and she sees only the first part of her name and then her last name. So in the TO: field she'll see Mary Jones instead of Mary Ellen Jones, as an example. If you touch the name, the details will come up and show her full name. However she would like to see the complete "Mary Ellen Jones" in the TO: button. I have discovered that if you enter her name as she wishes in her own contact list, it will then also show all three names as she wiashes. Thought I had her there, but she doesn't want OTHER users who have iPhones to see only Mary Jones, and then would mean I'd someoehow have to populate everyone in the world she sends mail to who have iPhones with her full name in their contacts list. yea.
So is there anyway of having the iphone display the COMPLETE first name it finds in Active Directory instead of just the first part of the first name? So have it show Mary Ellen Jones instead of Mary Jones.

  • Migrating from exc 2010/hosting to a new exc 2013 forest - GAL (global address list) search

    Hi gyus,
I am in the middle of a migration from a different exc 2007 forest and exc 2010/hosting to a new exc 2013 forest. All settings are good and I've been migrating some accounts. The only thing that made me sad is about the GAL. Is it possible for the migrated
users keep seen the GAL from the source domain during it? Or only in the end of the moves?
    Regards

You would need some sort of directory synchronization between the two.  That could be as simple as manually creating contacts, or something as complicated or expensive as Forefront Identity Manager.  There are plenty of options in middle, and
you're welcome to look for them or write your own scripts.

  • Global address list lookup

I noticed that when you lookup a contact or group in the GAL you see the alias property and not the display name in the result. When people search they are unaware of the alias name of the group and more aware of the diplay name. The display name is usually what you search. Now when you search iOS seems to search both the display names and the alias. But when showing the result only the alias is shown. This is a bug in my opinion and the display name is what should be shown with the alias in parenthesis.

I agree - I've noticed that contacts in the Exchange Global Address List are not included in the listing of contacts on the iPhone - I get that, as they're stored on the Exchange Server itself. However, it would be a huge benefit if the iPhone would, by default, query the GAL when performing any contact search.
It's very uninituitive to end-users and they have a difficult time understanding the distinction between the local contacts and the Exchange-based contacts (which, in a work environment, are typically the contacts they're looking for).

  • Outlook Global Address List question

    Hello,
We have changed our company name and I have updated all our users in Exchange 2007 so they have the new email address, but when users open their Outlook clients (2007-210) and click on the Global address list it will show "Global Address List - [email protected]"
instead of "Global Address List - [email protected]"
I I recreate the uses Outlook profile is will then show the users correct name, but I can' do this for 100s of uses, is there a workaround?
    Thanks

mail enabled user, and mailbox enabled user are two different things.....
You need to look at what that 3rd party piece of software is doing.  If it is manipulating Exchange mailboxes, then it needs to use the Exchange cmdlets.  Directly ripping attributes is not how this is tested or supported.  Please get them
to use the proper Exchange tools to manage Exchange recipients.

    Hello
We Use SBS 2011 and outlook for interoffice mailing.
In our Company People Know each other by their Last Names. But in Outlook in Global Address List names are sorted by First Name alphabetically. I want, for example, when people type “C” in search box of
“Select Names: Global Address List” people who have Last Names beginning with C to be shown.
    Thank You for answering

  • I've a new account on iMac.  When composing an email the contact list does not show up on the bar.  WWhen I start keying in a name, it comes up with the address.  How do I engage the  contact list from the email?

I've a new account on iMac.  When composing an email the contact list does not show up on the bar, which would allow me to select the persons I want to include on the distribution of the email.  When I start keying in a name in the email, it comes up with the person's address, which shows it is synced.  How do I engage the contact list from the email like I do on my old account (where a contact list icon shows up, along with the "attach" and other icons) ?

With the New Message window open, go to the View menu and select "Customize Toolbar...".
In the screen that opens, drag the item labelled "Address" into the Toolbar area of the New Message window, then click the "Done" button.
That item should be then added to the Toolbar for the New Message window.
Note that the main Mail window and the New Message window (as well as the separate message window if you open a message that way) use different toolbars - the settings/inclusions for one do not carry over to another.
