Exchange line skipped ADSL2+ to Fibre?

My exchange Newton ST Cyres was recently upgraded to Fibre but unfortunatly I'm on an exchange line so unable to recieve infinity. Before the upgrade the exchange was ADSLmax only not 2+ but now the exchange has been upgraded should I be able to recieve 2+ or has the exchange simply jumped that and gone straight to fibre leaving me on ADSLmax?
Line checker currently states 8MB.

OK, found it after trying different spellings, you're in Devon.  So you have one of the highest BT & BDUK fundings.  Have you tried contacting your CC to see if they can help at all
On the 29th January 2013, Connecting Devon and Somerset agreed a deal with BT to deliver high-speed fibre broadband to around 90% of premises by the end of 2016 and to ensure a minimum of 2Mbps broadband speeds for all.
Average speeds are currently around 9Mbps in Devon and around 8Mbps in Somerset, while about 14% of premises across the two counties receive less than 2Mbps.
The total value of the contract is £94 million, with BT making a £41 million financial contribution. £10 million is being provided each from Devon and Somerset County Councils with £32 million Government funding from Broadband Delivery UK (BDUK) and contributions from other public sector partners.

    Having asked BT to transfer our line onto ADSL2, I was told that this could be done but it would mean starting a new 24 month contract.
    I then discovered that I had started a new contract in September last year.
    I rang BT in September last year to see if our broadband and telephone accounts could be combined so we only had one account to deal with.
    It transpired that as a result of this I 'agreed' to a new 24 month contract.
    The initial agent I spoke to said she couldn't combine the accounts but would transfer me to someone who could
    It transpires she was a member of the sales team.
      Today,  I asked for a copy of the telephone conversation I had with her last year, which she duly sent.
          Having listened to this, I thought, as I did at the time, that she was confirming our existing contract details, when in fact what she was doing was starting a new contract.
    When I asked about combining the accounts she said she couldn't do that but gave me a telephone number to ring. At that point I gave up, having already spent too much time trying to do what I thought was a simple thing.
          I'm ashamed to say that when a confirmation email arrives a few days later, I didn't read it properly and did not realise It was confirming a new 24 month contract. I have since re-read it and that is exactly what it was doing.
          I asked the agent to also send me a copy of the original telephone call prior to being transferred. Not surprisingly, the answer was that they only record calls which confirm contract details!!
          We currently pay BT approximately £50 per month for business broadband and telephone. Our ISP who supplies our domestic broadband has offered a much more comprehensive service and higher speed at half that price and only a 12 month contract.
    The package includes:
             Unlimited Broadband with a maximum speed of 22.56         Unlimited Landline calls 24/7 including 01, 02, 03, 0845, 0870 numbers         Unlimited Mobile calls 24/7 to any network.         4 Static IP addresses         Business call features including call waiting, caller             display, call divert         Free premises moves (2x per year)         Free High-spec router         12 Month Contract
          This whole episode has left a really bad taste in my mouth. I have already cancelled our domestic account with BT and as soon as it is viable to do so, I will cancel both our broadband and telephone  for our business.
    The moral of the story is pay attention if you are talking to any of the BT sales people and scrutinise ANY emails you receive from them.

    Correct, and being a business person yourself you should be more savvy/aware of all the points you have made than many Domestic/home subscribers.
    Pay attention and check all details and T&C whichever company you are with.

  • Infinity/Fibre on direct exchange lines

    My local exchange is apparently due to recieve an infinity upgrade in 2014 thanks to a Welsh Government programme.
    The only stumbling block I can see is that there are few, if any cabinets on the exchange (small, rural village). I doubt we'll be getting FTTP, but has BT/OR developed a method for using FTTC/VDSL on an exchange only line yet?

    there have been reports on forum of cabinets being erected just outside the exchange but this is still in infancy

  • Re: Will my line support ADSL2/+ ?

    Having just moved to BT from another ISP I am disappointed with the upload speed I am currently getting, it would appear that I have been provisioned on ADSL Max not ADSL2+.
     See connection details below:-
                    Downstream      5.875 Mbps
                    Upstream            448 Kbps
    The BT Wholesale Broadband Checker shows that ADSL2/+ is supported.
    Is this the correct forum to get help on this as my previous ISP’s have provisioned using ADSL2+ with close to 1Mbps download speed?
    Also is it OK to use this thread or should I have started a new one?  Apologies if I should have.

  • Will my line support ADSL2/+ ?

    Hi all - after suffering with broadband drop-outs (and definitely ADSL - wired from router to PCs) I decided to do something about it. Short version: replaced microfilter, moved router, disconnecting ring-wire - and success! What was a patchy 3.5Mbps connection now reporting 4.906Mbps.
    This is running on a HH3, which I think may have issues - after improvements everything fine for three days and then router seemed to give up: dropped connection completely, was ping-able but couldn't access its admin pages (all okay on reset).
    My current stats are as below. FEC events may not look that greater (but massively better than before making changes). So:
    - is my line likely to be able to support ADSL2+? (As I've had a slower connection for years will the availability checke get updated?)
    - is it worth replacing the HH3?
    - I understand the connection won't improve on its own but might if the router is reset - how long should I leave things before trying this to see if it improves. Attenuation suggests there's further scope for improvement - is this likely.
    Thank you, and best wishes,
    Andrew.
    ps: yes, all something I should have done a while ago but was holding out for infinity after seeing local cabinets being postered with the "available here". Exchange is enabled; cabinet apparently won't be. (Do have line of sight on BT Adastral Park but wrong side of road...)

    Thanks - have tried that (before and after fiddling) - the jump from 3.5Mbps to 4.9Mbps started eight days ago so improvement is recent - is this site "live"? Having been stuck with 3.5Mbps for a couple of years will this immediately spot any line improvement (e.g. from disconnecting ring-wire)?

  • Read the first string in the line, skipping the whitespace ---Possible???

    I am parsing through the following file:
          * AOCSOnLupda.h
          *  Created on: 20.07.2010
          *      Author: perv_na
    #ifndef AOCSONLUPDA_H_
    #define AOCSONLUPDA_H_
    // holds the value of on_lupda
    namespace AOCS {
         class AOCSOnLupda{
              private:
                    /* public part
              public:
    #endif /* AOCSONLUPDA_H_ */My main task is to, go inside this file, check if the namespace and class name provided by the user matches the one's inside this file. And then write a boolean initialization (e.g. boolean checked = 1).
    The problems I am facing is that, when I read through each line I want to make sure that there is no Block Comment signs or // sign in the beginning of the line. So that I am sure that I am not writing the initialization inside a comment line or something.
    My problem is I am not at all being able to read the first word of a line (without the whitespace).
    Can someone please tell me how you can skip the first whitespaces in a newly read line, and retrieve the first chars/String? Like in the line:
                   /* public part
              public:there is white space before the start and end of the block comment. And also in front of the word "public:"
    How do I get my hands on the start and end of block comment character and also "public:" by skipping the white spaces in front?
    Thank you

    Hi,
    thank you for the link ... but I am actually trying to do by myself.
    BufferedReader in;
              String lineInFile;
              try {
                   in = new BufferedReader(
                             new FileReader(
                                       "C:/Users/jui/Eclipse/eclipse-java-helios-win32-x86_64/javaWorkspace/FilePathSearchCreateTest/aocsFiles/AOCSOnLupda.h"));// open
                   while ((lineInFile = in.readLine()) != null) {
                        if((lineInFile.trim().length())!=0){   //If not a Blank Line then...
                        *     //Read the first non-whitespace char in the read line                         *
                             String [] tempLine = lineInFile.split("\\s");
                             System.out.println(tempLine[0]);
                   in.close();// safely close the BufferedReader after use
              } catch (IOException e) {
                   System.out.println("There was a problem:" + e);
              }But it's not working. I need my code to read the first char/String in a newly read line, by skipping the first whitespaces.
    Would really really appreciate some tips. thank you.

  • Direct exchange line?

    Hi,
    I'm not a current BT customer, but my line is provided via BT (although  I do not pay you directly, I am a BE customer) and I would very much like to get Infinity when it becomes available.
    I live near the Morpeth exchange (NEMP), in an area which I believe is likely to be activated in July.
    Some cabinets have already appeared, so it looks like that will happen.
    However, some of the checkers point out that around half the properties in my postcode are connected directly to the exchange - albeit an exchange which is about 4km away.
    Recently there have been a couple of outages on myl ine - no dialtone - which have not affected the neighbours to whom I have spoken. These were resolved when water was drained from a bt point about half a mile away.
    The fact that I had these problems but my neighbours did not, and of how they were resolved has led me to believe that my line may well be one of those that, for some reason, is directly connected to the exchange.
    When I moved into my property it had two lines- the previous owner had run a home business - and I chose to keep one of them. However I believe that physically the two lines must still both exist,
    So my question(s) are:
    * How can I find out if I am connected directly to the exchange?
    * If I am, and given the distance involved, can I have my line changed to connect via a CAB?
    * Or, could I check if the other old line in my property goes to the cab and if so, switch to using that one?
    * Or could I order a new line for Infinity and specify that it need to go via the CAB?
    Many, many thanks.
    Pons

    Hi Pons_Alias,
    I don;t know if this of help, but http://fttc-check.alc.im/ will advise what cabinets your phone lines are connected to (based on postcode) and may give abetter picture of the likelihood of you being direct-to-exchange.
    I have just read the entire post with a sense of dread and disappointment, as I live in a block of (102) flats, and even though the cabinet is across the road (hell, I could throw some BT cable into it from my window *ponders*, mine is direct to exchange (makes sense, bundle 102 lines from flat block to exchange, rather than use up 102 ports in a cabinet), but annoyingly, there does seem to be no upgrade path (why can they not re-rtail the line into a cabinet?)

  • Line skipping in continues report pages

    Dear All,
    I have a report with width 8.5’ & height 11’; while I am printing continuously the first page will print with out any problem and second page will skip 2 or 3 line and third page will skip 5 or 6 line so on. How can I solve this issue?
    After I print the first page the second page should start form the first line of the second page, is there anyway to do this?
    Regards
    Jose

    the two things i mentioned are usually what causes this issue. you mentioned that you set the vertical elasticity to fixed, that is actually the wrong thing.
    you need to use either contract or variable. fixed or expand will keep the minimum size to what you set at designtime. only variable or contract will actually resize the frame if the content is smaller than the frame size.
    if that does not help, maybe you can describe what exactly you mean by "skipping lines" .. is the overall page size correct but if you take those two pages, a certain area (e.g. headings) are printed on one page but not the other but the space is reserver, or is it more like the overall pagesize seems to be wrong and the relative position of the objects on the page shifts fom page to page (e.g. correct on pg 1, slightly shifted on pg 2, more shited on pg 3, ...)
    thanks,

  • Gmail Exchange - line break issues

    When using Exchange for push Gmail on my iPhone 4, I've noticed that any emails I sent have odd line breaks inserted into them. As I'm using the iPhone for work, any emails I send are rendered almost unintelligible. This is particularly bad as I am a professional writer. When using POP to access Gmail the text appears absolutely fine.
    How can I ensure that my emails stay in their original format and don't have line breaks inserted where I don't want them? If this is possible with POP, surely it should be possible with Exchange. Any ideas?

    The problem arises because the iPhone uses "Plain Text" to send emails.
    When using gmail, gmail automatically inserts breaks in "Plain Text" emails every 78 characters, the reason why you see the breaks when unexpected.
    See: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/gmail/thread?tid=4d1cecc1aab102ef&hl=en
    To fix this problem:
    1. Apple can allow us to send mail with Rich Text support from iOS devices OR
    2. Google has to change the line breaks setting so that Plain text flows (and isn't broken) <-- this option is probably more realistic
    I have tried from a hotmail account, sending email as plain text doesn't have line breaks imposed like the gmail account, but rather "flows".

  • Lost phone line will I lose Fibre

    Lost phone today. BT says it is the network, standard 3 days etc.
    The diag shows the stop at the exchange.
    There is absolutely nothing at the house socket, not even the trickle.
    When they 'fix' the phone line should I expect the BB to drop out.

    Have you been misled by BT?
    Have you tried another phone in the socket, and used the test socket for your phone only?
    This was the only way I could demonstrate to the phone and ISP provider that there was a fault on the line. After that it' was their problem to decide where the fault was. Must say that they were very prompt. The reason given was that there was a fault in the underground cables, even though the phone supply was from overhead.
    Should be the same with BT, except that the guidelines are to contact BT, who will then go to Openreach.

  • My exchange is being upgraded to fibre.

    As pleased as I was to see the exchange I am on, FARNBOROUGH, HANTS, on BT's new list of 300 that are being upgraded to fibre I wondered if this means everyone who uses this exchange will now get high speed fibre broadband or is it just those who actually live in the town of Farnborough?
    I am three miles away.

    They are rolling this out gradually. It will only be available to you if/when your local roadside cabinet is connected by fibre.

  • ADSL2+ at Riccall exchange now or not

    I spoke to BT broadband support about 3 weeks ago and could not get a sensible answer from the operator. He promised he would investigate but has not come back to me - so hope somebody can help out -
    dslchecker.bt.com and the BT sales "what speed can I get" checker say ADSL2+ is available on Riccall exchange with a downstream rate up to 17 Mbps on my phone number (sounds right as my copper length is approx 500 metres from the exchange from another site check)
    Yet I appear to be stuck on ADSL Max up to 8 Mbps rate looking at my hub figures and speedtest.btwholesale.com tests at 6.8 Mbps download constantly (as expected for ADSL Max). BTW test will not let me do a diagnostic test at all  (why?) so I cannot see my ip profile. Historically it showed approx 7000 ip profile which tallies with the tests I am getting now.
    BT are now selling ADSL2+ as availlable on my number and exchange and I asked him was it that my ip profile was stuck or was it that the rolout had not occured ? He did not even understand what I was talking about - all he would say that no fault was showing. I told him time and again that this was not a fault query.
    I told him that ADSL2+ was previously indicating a Feb 2014 availability at our exchange but the BT wholesale website was now showing it as available now - question 1 was that site wrong? was the WBC rollout spreadsheet at BTW website issued in December wrong? was the BT sales website wrong? - was it in fact still not activated? had my line been migrated (if necessary) to it? - he still was blank
    Really simple questions -
    1) is Riccall exchange active as ADSL2+ or not?
    2) if not - when?
    3) if yes - why not my line?
    4) when for my line?
    5) why has he not come back to me as promised?
    I will tell my number to a BT person if they respond to this but at least someone my be able to answer the overall Riccall exchange question. Thanks in anticipation
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi alyork,
    Your exchange Riccall (MYRIC) is now showing a BTw 21cn ready and available.
    As a BT Retail broadband customer and still in contract thenonce your exchange has been BTW 21cn upgraded then your will automatically be migrated to the new 21cn network. However be aware that this can take days to weeks to months after the exchange is BTw 21cn upgraded as the lines have to be manually migrated over in batches.
    As to the BTw 21cn network which allows ADSL2/2+ modulation (upto 12/20mbps), the ADSL2/2+ modulations are more aggressive to any noise on your line. It may also increase your line attenuation by 2/4dB, therefore on longer lines it can make the connection unstable if your line isn't able to cope with these higher frequencies.
    Also when your exchange has been 21cn upgraded, the lines have to be migrated to the new 21cn hardware in the exchange in batches so it can take days/weeks/months for all the lines to be migrated over to the 21cn network. Also you may be kept on ADSLMax (upto 8mbps) modulation but on the 21cn network if your line isn't able to cope with ADSL2/2+.
    Some BT Retail customers have tried to recontract their BT Retail broadband and other services to try and skip the queue, however you may need to agree on a new contract period.
    In my experience it took about 4 months for our line to be moved onto the BTw 21cn network after the exchnage had been BTw 21cn upgraded
    I'm no expert, so please correct me if I'm wrong

  • Exchange needs upgrading before we can use ADSL2+

    I was sold by BT a ADSL2+ upgrade on our line, but then found out we didn't have the support for this upgrade at our exchange.  At the same time our broadband speed dropped to 9kbps, our speed is normally about 1 to 1.5mbps on a good day.
    My question is, how do we make a request to BT to upgrade our exchange?
    We are in a very rural area and really need faster access.
    PSWB.

    An upgrade of your exchange to 21CN (ADSL2+) will make little if any difference to your sync rate if it is normally on a good day between 1-1.5mbps.  Unfortunately the people who benefit most from the upgrade are the people who already have better than average sync speed.  The upgrade does not give a pro rata increase in your current speed.

  • Officejet Pro L7590 - Printer intermittently skips printing complete lines of black ink.

    My Officejet Pro keeps intermittently skipping lines of black ink when I copy or print a document. There appears to be no pattern as to where on a page the line skips printing.  When I initially replaced my B/Y printhead, the problem appeared to have stopped and the pages appeared to be printing OK. But after a day or so, when I would print or copy another document, the problem reappears.  I have also replaced the black ink cartridge (twice), the problem still exists.
    I love this printer because, when it's working, it prints and copies documents with excellent speed and clarity.  I don't want to spend another $200+ dollars for a replacement HP printer or an inordinate amount for repair of the existing printer.  Any suggestions??
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    THANKS VERY MUCH. Your suggestion seems to be working.
    I was hesitant about replying too soon because I wanted to be sure the problem has been corrected this time.
    Initially, I replaced the black ink cartridge (for a second time), but this didn't correct the problem.  Next, I replaced the black (B/Y) printhead (for the second time).  Now the printer is working just fine.
    May be the first replacement printhead was defective, since the second replacement printhead seems to have solved the problem.  Fortunately, I was able to get a refund (replacement) for the first printhead.
    Thanks again for your help.
