Exchange Mail Folder Problem

I travel with my macbook air and want to use the Mail app to connect to my Exchange account. However, when I add the account it tries to sync my entire Exchange mailbox. This is too much email to sync. My mailbox is large and changes throughout the week so by the time I fire up mail it takes hours to sync messages.
My ipad syncs mail for 3 or 5 days which is perfect. How can I configure Mail.app to behave the same way?
I either way to sync JUST the Inbox  and none of my subfolders OR  JUST mail for the last 3 to 5 days....
Again, since the laptop is often offline for periods of time I do not want to sync my entire mailbox while travelling. How do I replicate how the iOS handles Exchange accounts on my Macbook Air?
Thanks!

One thing that may help is to go to Mail Preferences, Accounts, and in your account under the Advanced tab select the check box for "Prompt me to skip messages over xxx kB" (where you indicate how many kB). This can reduce the download times by factors of 2 to 4 or more, depending on the size of the attachments.
I think the more specific control you are looking for that is analogous to what you can do on the iPhone and iPad might not be available on the computer versions of Mail.
Edit added: I just noticed that the above option is only available for POP accounts, but not for Exchange (IMAP) accounts, so unfortunately it may not apply to your account.

  • Where do I read emails in my pushed exchange mail folder?

    I am pushing my inbox and one other folder from my Exchange mail account. The problem is my unified inbox doesn't include the additional folder's emails. The only way to view the folders is to go manually to the accounts section and then find the pushed folder.
    I am new to iPhone and can't find any support topics or threads that deal with this.
    Help!

    There is no unified Inbox mailbox if you are accessing one email account. The unified Inbox mailbox feature "unifies" the Inbox mailbox for more than one email account when accessing more than one email account so you can view all received messages with all accounts.
    It is a unified Inbox mailbox.

  • Mail folder problem

    I just encountered a problem, where I changed the name of a mail sub-folder, thereby loosing all contained e-mails in the folder. This is obviously a problem in Mail.
    OK, I moved up one step to the parent folder, entered time machine, went back a couple of hours and found my lost e-mails. Marked them (about ten e-mails in all) and hit restore.
    Then everything froze, dead. Could not find any better idea than power off.

  • Exchange Mail Offline Problem when moving/deleting mails

    Hi there,
    I am using the Apple Mail Program to connect to my corporate Microsoft Exchange Server. This work perfectly well (also with the calendar, tasks, etc.)
    Mail also work s well while I am online.
    When I work offline (I often travel in planes in trains) I can write emails, respond to mails and those will be synchronized without any problem when I am back online.
    But the strange thins is that Mail sets back all changes in my inbox without any recognizable trigger. Meaning, I am moving emails from the inbox folder to other folders and/or deleting emails from my inbox. After switching from the inbox to another folder, or simply shortly to another program and then coming back, ALL moved and deleted emails show up again in the inbox. This is strange, because I am offline the whole time - thus the expanation that the server synch has changed everything back cannot be. At the same time, written emails stay in the outbox folder and remain there until I go online again.
    I asked an apple employee at Genious Bar but he could help me. Another friend of me who uses another corporat Exchange Server experiences the same  problem. Can anyone help?

  • Exchange email folder problem after wiping and restoring

    Recently I decided to test using Exchange Remote wipe to wipe my iPad. First I made sure I used iTunes to do a backup/sync. Then I used OWA for Exchange 2007 to remotely wipe my iPad which happened successfully. Then I plugged it into my computer and restored my iPad.
    Ever since then, the contents of my e-mail folders on the iPad don't match up with the folder names. They are shifted up by one. This only appears this way on the iPad, so I know the messages aren't just in the wrong folders on the Exchange server. Below is a representation of what's happening:
    Inbox (actually contains inbox messages)
    Sent (appears empty on the iPad)
    70FB9178-576E... (Contains messages from the All Folder on the iPad)
    All (Contains messages from the Backups Folder on the iPad)
    Backups (Contains messages from the Folder below it on the iPad)
    I'm guessing that removing exchange sync and re-adding it will correct it, but I'm wondering of anyone else has ever run into this issue.
    Thanks for any thoughts you have.
    -Alex

    Having the same issue. We tested the remote wipe on my iPad to ensure that we had it set up correctly, and now all my folders are shifted by one. Did you ever get an answer to this?

    Hi alpertemiz,
    Try to clear data of the default email app, and re-setup the mailbox to see if the issue persist.

  • How to include the exchange sub folder's unread mail into the "UNREAD" group in default exchange mail app in iPhone ?

    I am using ios 7.0.2. I have many sub folders in my exchange mail box. Problem is when any mail comes to the sub folder, it is not counted as unread mail and it also does not be visible under the unread mail group. The unread mail group only shows the unread mails which have come directly to inbox but not the mails which comes to the sub folder according to the set rule. Have any one noticed this ridiculous thing? Is there any solution or it's a bug??

    I have the same problem. On the IPad and IPhone I can easilly connect to our Exchange server. When setting up a MacBook Air, using the same settings (account/server address etc) it doesn't work...
    Does anyone have a solution for this?
    Thanks!

  • Problem with "sent" mail folder-how do I trash the prefs in Apple Mail?

    Since no one has answered my original request for assistance regarding my "Sent Mail" mailbox, I'll move the issue aside and approach it differently: How do I trash the prefs in Apple Mail without trashing my inbox and all the other mailboxes? Trashing the prefs works for most apps, but if I do that to Mail, I'm screwed. My real problem remains: I can no longer see or read the email in my "sent mail" box; I can see the info identifying the entry, but I can't read the contents of the email. It's all there in the Mail folder on my hard drive, but it doesn't show up in the Mail app.
    So how can I trash the prefs for "Mail" without trashing my inbox?

    Hello b:
    I have only had to trash the Mail preference once, and I cannot remember what occurred (except that the application worked OK after that).
    Before you trash the preference file, try rebuilding the mailbox(s).

  • Mail Junk Folder Problem

    My junk mail folder says that there are 1953 messages in it but when I click on it there is nothing there. The count for my regular mail works just fine and I can see my regular mail just fine as well. I can also throw away and delete mail from my normal mailbox with no problems.
    How do I reset the Junk Mail folder so that it displays and deletes properly?
    I have tried to "erase junk mail" and also "erase deleted messages" but nothing happens. I have also tried to delete the Mail folder from my Caches within my Library and also the Envelope Index from the Mail folder within my Library.
    Does this sound like a familiar issue?

    Hi BC Dezign, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Is this a POP or IMAP account?
    Did you do these exact steps?
    Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
    Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
    Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
    If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • Can't Find Mail for Exchange e-mail folder on E71

    Hi Guys,
    I've installed MfE 2.09 (158) and its syncing correctly. I can view my meetings in calendar.
    But i'm not able to find the Mail for Exchange folder in Messaging folder.
    Has anyone else faced this issue? Can you please advise on what can I do to view that folder.
    Cheers
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    After playing around for a while, I'm now able to get my exchange mails working.
    The issue was:
    I installed MfE by using my phone browser which was working synced but didn't give me the icon to check my mails.
    Solution to this particular issue is:
    Un installed the MfE which i previously downloaded.
    I downloaded MfE from Nokia web site and used Nokia PC Suite to install in on my phone.
    Re created the profile
    Synced it.
    and I was able to see the Mail for exchange icon to check my mails.

    Hi,
    Some questions:
    1. Can you open your account via OWA?
    2. Can you configure your account on other user's computer?
    Try disabling any 3rd-party firewall or AV programs, make sure no proxy applictions or settings.

  • FIM Service - Problems with Exchange Mail Listener

    I have a lab environment with Exchange 2010 (exchange) and FIM 2010 R2 (fimserver), both running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Std SP1. My problem is that the Exchange Mail Listener in the FIM Web Services is throwing exceptions and unable to poll
    or send mail. The exception is always "System.InvalidOperationException: Client found response content type of '', but expected 'text/xml'."
    Versions:
    FIM Service: 4.1.3419.0
    Exchange 2010: 14.01.0218.013
    The FIM service is ran under a service account "Domain\fimservice", and has an Exchange 2010 mailbox
    [email protected]. The "Microsoft.ResourceManagement.Service.exe.config" is defined as following:
    <appSettings>
    <!-- Setup adds entries -->
    <add key="mailServer" value="https://exchange.domain.com/ews/exchange.asmx" />
    <add key="isExchange" value="1" />
    <add key="sendAsAddress" value="[email protected]" />
    <add key="synchronizationServerName" value="fimserver.domain.com" />
    </appSettings>
    On the FIMServer I can run IE under the FIMService account and successfully get to
    https://exchange.domain.com/ews/exchange.asmx without any certificate errors or authentication prompts. I can also access OWA and send and recieve mail from the fimservice account.
    Turning on additional logging on the web services I see the following messages:

    Any suggestions?

    David,
    Thanks for the suggestion. The account didn't have any e-mails. I eventually found the issue was with the exchange server itself and not related at all to FIM. Even though I could access OWA and the EWS asmx page the product wasn't fully functional due to
    a missing DLL from another .NET update. So I thought exchange was working properly, but it wasn't.
    After installing this
    hotfix (KB2637518) on the exchange box, the product was working and therefore FIM was working as expected.

  • I have exchange mail (smtp) - my server client  x400, i have a problem

    Hi.
    I have exchange mail (smtp) and my client server mail x400 and my client not send the mail when he has executed the form.
    I do not see the problem somebody see it?.
    please, tell me something.
    My Inglis is very bad, sorry, Im Spanish.
    Thanks.

    it's quit strange. I have the same problem, but i got a little bit higher,
    first check your email ip server, (make ping in ms-dos)you can get your server name in outlook's properties. If it's OK check your port, your problem sounds like a comunication problem, but i need to know your email protocol, and your code, moreover, if you are using a proxy.
    P.D.: Espero que esto te ayude,estas usando MS exchange?.
