Exchange mail very slow on OS X yosemite
Often when a system update comes out, Mail is the culprit in each release. This release is no exception. I updated to OS X Yosemite and accessing my emails through Mail is painful if not nearly impossible. Exchange connects without error and syncs up all services without a problem - except Mail which is constantly pushing requests to Fetch information from the server, constantly syncing. As a result it means I can't read my email let alone reply to them.
I removed my exchange account and delete my Mail cache and local folders, readded the account, but still no joy.
IS anyone else have issues with this or simply me ?
I have a similar problem. Mail is very slow performing actions on Exchange server such as deleting mail, fetching mail. It is very slow even sowing the rainbow spinner often when performing an action. This is an upgrade from Mavericks on a Mac Mini (late 2012) with a 2.6GHz i7 quad core CPU. It is connected to an Exchange Server 2010. When I use connection doctor it takes a very long time to show a connected message.
I have tried deleting the account and re creating it but the problem persists.
The issue does not exist on Airmail 2 connected to the same Exchange Server on the same computer nor does it happen on an MacBook Air 11 (mid 2012) where the Yosemite install is an upgrade from Yosemite Beta 6.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Very slow mac after installing yosemite
I have already tried all the online tips (like turning off transparency etc) but nothing works. I have also run Etrecheck and will include the report:

EVERYTHING - Safari, QuickTime, MS Word for Apple, the DVD Player, everything - runs slowly and I get the "rainbow pinwheel of frustration". It's taken me three minutes to type these few sentences. It's really starting to frustrate me. Here is my EtreCheck report:
Problem description:
Since I installed the latest Yosemite update (10.10.2), EVERYTHING runs slowly. I get the rainbow pinwheel whenever I click on anything on Safari, and have trouble typing via Safari; videos stop and start on QuickTime; MS Word for Apple runs slowly - EVERYTHING seems to be slowed down. It took four minutes to get the above sentences typed. Please help me escape the “rainbow pinwheel of failure”!

Mac Mail very slow when waking
Hello
Mac Mail is very slow on my machine, just stalls and gives me the spinning wheel for several minutes. Usually it is when the machine has woken up; it appears that it is trying to do background tasks (like fetching mail) while this is going on but I am unable to switch to Mail for quite a long time. I sometimes see notifications of new mail in this period, equally it sometimes shows in Activity Monitor as "not responding" (although if I wait it eventually comes back).
It is runnning on a brand new MBP retina, lots of RAM, disk and processor available.
It collects mail from four mailboxes, three of them are Exchange and one is IMAP. None are massively high volume, kind of normal to low usage for the average person I guess. I did rebuild the database a while ago, but it just lost lots of mail which then needed to be slowly re-downloaded. I gave up on Outlook (on my previous machine) for being generally crashy, dysfuctional and annoying but now Mail isn't far behind.
Contacts, which I just leave open in the background quite often, also seems to be having trouble staying alive. Often "not responding" and requires a forced quit.
Any suggestions?
DominicPlease follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically. -
I just updated my Macbook (2010) to Yosemite, and it's become very slow. After searching through this community, I downloaded and run EtreCheck, but don't understand what the report means. Please could you help me with what I should do to improve my computer's speed, aside from upgrading my RAM? Thank you so much.
The report:

You have had good information here. I will not repeat that here.
I would like to add:
you have incompatible software: start in SafeMode, read Woodmeister and see if it is free of issues.
Akamai is crap software needed or not, Huawei the same.
It is very possible that the keygenerator you used for generating a key for some softwares has infected your mac.
The non-regular software with the false key(s) are not compatible probably or generate malware. Luckily you can not update them automatically because the keygenerator blocked the software for contacting the developer... I propose to consider getting rid of those softwares by really good uninstalling.
You have a beautiful mac, don't degenerate it with crapped software. There are alternatives for expensive software, for example Adobe Photoshop has a free alternative (with a less beautiful interface) in GIMP. And so on.

My mac book pro very slow after update to Yosemite
hi. my mac book very slow after I upgrade to Yosemite. Is anyone like me? How should I do?
Yes, many are like you. Most of them have incompatible or poorly written software or not enough ram though. Download and run EtreCheck http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck and post its result here so that we may get a look at your aystem.

Mac Mail Very Slow (Spinning ball)
Hi -
My Mac Mail has gotten very very slow lately when first opening the app, or returning to the app after a long rest.
The ball starts spinning and it takes about 2-3 mins before I can use mail.
My mail database is very very large. 20GB, so I assume that is part of the problem. I did rebuild but that didn't seem to help.
Any ideas on how I can handle that, other than dumping my archive? Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
Back up all data.
Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services > Reveal
from the contextual menu.
Next door to the exchange but very slow broadband
Hello, like the post title says I live 20 seconds walk from the local exchange yet I am now getting very slow broadband speeds (around 1Mbps downstream). This has not always been the case, I was getting about 12-14 about a couple of months ago. I have over the last two months been getting a lot of dropped connections. Broadband was not used a lot over the summer but have now got around to investigating and so far seen the following information. From what I have read the noise margin seems to be very high, does this need to be reset by a mod? Any help with this would be very much appreciated.
Quiet line check, seemed ok to me.

Solved!
Go to Solution.Have now moved the router onto the master socket.
Re-did the quiet test and now no noise on the line using any of the ADSl filters I have.
Have also unplugged the phone so now only connection is the router.
Here are the latest numbers after moving the router. Should I now wait for3 days and see if the speed picks up or should I try and contact a mod?

Sending mail very slow after 10.9.5 upgrade.
I upgraded to 10.9.5 yesterday and ever since then, sending mail (using Mail.app) is very, very slow or the emails do not get sent and stay stuck in my Outbox.
Is anyone else experiencing this?
I've deleted my iCloud account and re-added it and it didn't help.Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages

When I send an email. The wheel spins for quite awhile before the message leaves. This is a relatively new problem. I'm not sure if it started when I installed 10.5
MAC Mail, for some reason, wants a DNS server setting in the network setup.
Under System Preferences, go to Network and add your DNS numbers for your ISP Server. Get the right numbers from your ISP. I did a search for "DNS" on the ATT/YAHOO member web site.
This fixes the slow checking and sending of mail....It also fixes problems where mail sends slow and may give Authentication errors.
I spent many hours on this and finally the answer was posted on this forum.
Public DNS servers are less likely to be changed. They have been tried and do work. Nobody knows why.
For Public DNS servers look at.

I upgraded to Yosemite on my MacBook Pro (non-retina). Now the system is incredibly slow.
1) wake-up form sleep takes up to a minute
2) Various icons will not open or respond until I have clicked on it three or four times and get the spinning beach ball (Finder, Calendar, iTunes)
3) Using Outlook for Mac app - similar issue as 2 when trying to send mail, add attachments or do anything
I am very frustrated by this upgrade. Any recommendations for speeding the system back to Mountain Lion levels?12/7/14 6:56:41.684 PM

HT6346 New iMac very slow after upgrading to Yosemite...
I recently purchased a 21.5 inch iMac and had it specced up. I was very happy with it until last week when I upgraded it to Yosemite. It has slowed down significantly. When switching between programmes and selecting different actions, it appears to stop, then the "thinking wheel" appears, before carrying out the requested command. Sometimes as much as 10 seconds. For example: the simple act of hitting "reply" in mail, it takes as much a s10 seconds to open a reply mail. I videoed it several times. Very disappointed...
Specs
iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013)
3.1 GHz Intel Core i7
16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 1024 MB
just the process of copying and pasting the specs from About this Mac, took ages. Each line "thought" about it for several seconds before allowing me to select it.Similar problem here too (quite high spec 2011 iMac 27") ; takes longer to boot up and Safari is slower under Yosemite than Mavericks.I have just installed Firefox and had a play around with it and it is much faster than safari ~ just couldn't get the appearance the way I liked so uninstalled. This morning I was using a five year old Compaq (averagely specced) and using Chrome it was much much faster than Safari is currently. I like Apple products (and just bought a new iPod classic for spare ) have, iPad etc but these 'upgrades' are like puling teeth for me. IOS 8 was useless on iPad 2 but improved slightly yesterday with IOS 8.1. I have little interest in technology as an end in itself, ( hifi and audio is my thing) just wanting it to work. I still can't send emails since Yosemite was installed last week as 'smtp servers are offline' ~ well, no they're not as email still works on iPad, android phones and compaq using the same servers. This really irritates. I was so impressed with iPad 2 when I got it ~ it set itself up virtually and I was sold on Apple's ease of use but I don't get back the 3 hours I spent last Friday checking settings, deleting accounts, re-adding email accounts and ultimately failing to fix it.
Yesterday I went to a famous dept store here in the UK to get an iPad mini with retina display as our iPad 2 is 3 years old but I left the store without buying it; just got sidetracked by looking at Samsung and believe it or not, Surface 3 program microsoft. Enough doubt in my mind after IOS7/8 and now Yosemite.
I still think Apple's products are beautifully designed and aesthetically and ergonomically impressive, but the Yosemite experience is draining; everyone glad handing about how great it is and it patently isn't. The design changes in the mac mini (lower performance than 2012 model ) and iMac (5K screen notwithstanding, much more difficult to make internal changes)) looks like arrogance.
Sorry for the negative rant but that's almost certainly me done -
No Sound, Safari Slow & MacBook Pro Very Slow after upgrading to Yosemite.
Hi All,
Upgrading to Yosemite has resulted in the following issues with my computer/laptop:
1. I have lost all sound and the sound options are no longer there after looking in Preferences.
2. Safari only loads parts of pages and then takes forever to load the rest.
3. Generally the computer has been slow with processes taking over the CPU and there seems to be a lot of hard memory swaps.
Attached is the EtreCheck. Any help would be appreciated. It appears that I also am missing some daemons that are launching.
Problem description:
MacBook Pro has been running slowly ever since upgrading to Yosemite.

I upgraded to Yosemite a few weeks ago. ever since my email has been painfully slow connecting to the iMAP server. Messages will sit for hours in my outbox, and attachments take forever to download. I have tried the offline/online work around. Makes no difference. I try quitting and re-opening mail, no difference. I am now re-building my mail boxes but the speed or lack of it in downloading the messages back from the server seems soooooo slow. Any other ideas anyone please??
Its like trying to run through treacle when you need to get on with your work and you find that emails you need s response to are stuck in your outbox!!Mail under Mountain Lion is painfully...: Apple Support Communities
