Exchange "network upgrade" has reduced my speeds

My exchange has just had its "network upgrade" (according to the emails I received) and I would be grateful for some technical info. I presume this is 21CN (router says G.992.5 annex A).
I'm using a HHub 1.0. I haven't taken any action myself about any upgrade or new contract. I'm out of contract at the moment, on the old Option 3 Broadband with BBTalk and BTVision (no packages).
The exchange work was done about about a week ago according to the email, although there were internet connection problems for a fortnight before that. It's halved my IP and download speed. I only discovered that was the problem when I got the upgrade emails.
1 - how long does it take to settle down after the inbterference of the conversion?
2 -Is there anything I can do to recover what used to be a good solid synch under my old ADSLMax, at double what I have now? (I used to get an IP solidly above 5000 and very stable connection)
3 - does the IP profile and synch rate adjust on its own (with 21CN) , without restarting the router or reconnecting the line or should I try a restart every couple of days? Which will give me the best chance of getting a better IP profile over time?
4 - Do IP profiles get "stuck" on 21CN like they sometimes did on ADSLMax?
Does anyone have any technical data references about 21CN - presumably all my current BRAS profile/IP Profile tables are now out of date?
What sites have good information and support on this please? (preferably 3rd party ones).

It is an upgrade to 21CN - you can check profile here http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm It's like starting again - 10 training period. apart from increase eventually in speed/download it is basically the same procedure.
Thanks - that is the table I was looking for, and I'm assuming it still applies to 21CN.
According to the table on that link then, I should see a profile increase, as my last synch (3643/711) was above the upper range (3392) for my current profile (2500). My last throughput was 2357.
I'll try and be patient and wait!
Unanswered question - does the higher rescynch and hopefully IP profile increase, happen without a user router restart?
Anyone know WHAT the 21CN upgrade actually is? What it entails? The available BT information is incredibly vague? Seems to be about babies reaching for the sky and world class consumer experiences.

Haven'tt seen any babies and the experience so far has been sloooooooooooow.
I think I got the version with the guy juggling.

• Network upgrade completed and no internet

Well BT emailed me are pleased to tell me that my network upgrade has been completed on the 22nd June. They actually did it 21st June so good on them for doing it early. However, since this time I have had no internet connection. My BT Home Hub connects at 10,800 downstream with an upstream of 888 kbps but I get nowhere on the 'net. BT Home Hub is v1.00, so I have wireless, data and broadband lights no internet light.
Three BT engineers have been scheduled. First said, issue is at the exchange and he would pass the call over. Still not working when BT India called back. An engineer was scheduled Friday...no show. An engineer was scheduled today...no show.
So, one upgrade, 3 engineers, umpteen minutes on the phone and still no internet connection. I am so very annoyed! Trying to be civil to the poor BT India people but slowly going mad.
Can a BT forum mod help me before I take a gun from my cabinet and either point it at the router or at my head?
EDIT: Yet another engineer booked in for Wednesday.
Solved!

I know exactly what's wrong with your internet connection because it took us over a week to get ours reinstated after the 'Retail Migration Team' had kindly updated our network. What they are keeping quiet is that the old white HomeHub (which we had) is not compatible with the network upgrade so it will never work while you have the old hub. Trying to make the call centre in India understand what was wrong was **bleep** - even though I have to say they are very polite and do try to help, but they can only follow their technical script. We knew for a fact that our equipment was all working ok and it was to do with the upgrade. An engineer finally called and he was on the ball enough to know that, after thoroughly checking us out, our HomeHub was the problem and I wonder if BT knew that the old hubs may have this problem but don't rush to help you if they can save the money by having to replace your hub to a nice new black one! The engineer instructed to phone the call centre again and tell them that they had to send me a new hub. I did ring and by now, probably because of me moaning, my call was diverted to the BT Priority Care Team who, once they were involved, sorted out it all out. They said that my hub was not compatible and was out of warranty as we had had it so long. I told them I was not going to pay for a new hub as their network upgrade had caused this. They totally agreed and within two days a nice new black hub arrived via Royal Mail, I plugged it in and hey presto, we have internet. The BT Team then called every day for a week to make sure we had no problems.
So don't be fobbed off with engineers and call centres telling you to reset buttons etc etc. YOUR HOMEHUB does not work with the new upgrade and it is for them to replace it with a new one with no payment due from yourself. Hope this all helps and stick to your guns.

• Slower speeds after network upgrade

Hi folks,
On July 19th my exhange received a network upgrade(Glenrothes South,i believe) and since then my speeds have dropped by around 20% ant both peak and off-peak times.
Phoned BT and was told about the 10 day settling time, which i was already aware of and never notied there to be any change during and after the period in speed whenever i have had a braodband connection installed,i monitor this closely btw.
Does anyone have any advice on my next course of action to remedy this as i fail to see why i should continue to pay for a supposedly upgraded service which is infact worse than before.

• Reducing Processor speed for Power problems

I have already replaced the power supply in my G5 20"iMac under Apples self-install program. That problem was resolved (no power), but now the computer has been unexpectedly shutting off and has frequent high fan noise . I reduced the processor speed and it has been usable. I plan to take it to an Apple Store because my 1yr. waranty is almost up, however, my serial # falls in the Repair Extension program for Video and Power issues.
I am hoping they will diagnose on the spot and order a new logic board or whatever. I do not want to leave the computer at the store while a part is ordered as it is usable.
Does anyone know what I can expect at the Store?
And, in general, can anyone tell me what happens when the computer is used with reduced Processor speed.I have not really noticed a difference, but I think I am just masking the problem.
Thank you

Hi
If you do decide to go with a processor upgrade, they're available from a number of manufacturers including Giga Designs, Sonnet, OWC/PowerLogix/NewerTech and FastMac:
http://www.gigadesigns.com/
http://www.sonnettech.com/product/cpu_upgrades.html
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/accelerators/
http://fastmac.com/
Most of the above web sites have more detailed information about their processor upgrades and downloadable installation manuals and/or videos, so you can check compatibility and what's involved in replacing the processor.
Here in the UK the Sonnet upgrades seem the most readily available and are available from the following stockists amongst others:
http://www.macheaven.co.uk/
http://www.macupgrades.co.uk/store/
I've also ordered from OWC in the States before without any problems. With the good exchange rate you may save some money, although be aware I've always ended up paying some form of import tax, so the savings aren't as great as you may expect.
If it were me I'd consider a 7455 based OWC Mercury Extreme upgrade:
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/accelerators/OWC-Mercury-Extreme/
They seem to be highly recommended, compatible with OS 9.2 and OS X and don't require any third party firmware patches or kernel extensions etc. If you click the More Info button for the 1.467-1.5GHz upgrade, you'll see some benchmarks comparing it to the stock 400MHz processor.
Another option would be to look for an original Apple dual 450MHz or 500MHz processor card on eBay that's been pulled from a Gigabit Ethernet model. Assuming your computer's compatible with dual processors (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13551), it would offer a modest speed boost.
I hope this helps.

• BT network upgrade? phony baloney?

I got an email from
"[email protected]" <[email protected]>
"Hello,
Good news. We’ve upgraded our network in your area
Remember we let you know we were rolling out our faster broadband? We’ve now done it in your area. We always offer the fastest speed your line can take and now your broadband speed and connection should be faster and more stable than before."
So here is my question.. if there has been some kind of upgrade thats suppose to make my internet faster why is my internet syncing at only 2080kbps when before it was aproximatley 2500kbps and the ip profile is now only 1750kbps when before I was enjoying 2000kbps download speeds?
It seems to me this upgrade they have emailed me about is just nonsense, really there's been no improvement at all.

The fact that the exchange is upgraded don't mean your line is some times its done automatically some times you have to request upgrade and enter a new contract

• BT Network Upgrade - I'm Disappointed

Hi Folks,
On 19 January (2010), I received an e-mail from the BT migration team informing me that I was to expect a network upgrade on 22 January. Then, on 23 January, I received a further e-mail from BT saying that the network upgrade had been completed. That was 13 days ago. I was told that my broadband service would be improved from 'up to 8Mbps' to 'up to 20Mbps'.
Using the BT Speedtester online service, I just checked my download speed and it measured 1704kbps, i.e. a mere 1.704Mbps. This is the same (give or take a few kbps) download speed that I was getting before the network upgrade.
To say I'm disappointed is an understatement!
Has anyone else had a network upgrade - only to find that it didn't make a scrap of difference?
Anon
P.S. I should perhaps add that my modem/router is left switched on 24/7.

The upgrade was the technology that the exchange uses to connect to the outside world.
The cable between the exchange and your premises is still the same cable and has not been modified in anyway.
Therefore you will still get roughly the same speed as the speed you recieve is decided primarly based on the length and quality of the cable you use to connect to the exchange.
if you were getting a full 8Mb on an up to 8Mb service, then you would get more speed.
This is how rate adaptive ADSL works, and until you are on a Fibre product, is how it will likely remain. It allows you to connect at 'whatever the line is capable of up to a pre-determined limit or 8 or 20 or 24Mb.'
What you might get, is a peak times you may get a little more throughput, ie not as restricted when downloading files/browsing the web as the 21CN network has a bit more capability than the 20CN network.

• HH3 no software upgrade has occurred and HH3 keeps...

Hi,
My HH3 has been installed for a while now, over 4 months, and no software upgrade has ever occurred on it. Currently the Software version is 4.7.5.1.83.8.57 (Type A). The hub works fine and I am getting a speed out of it that is fine for the exchange I am on and the distance from the exchange. The hub now seems to be restarting itself at about 03:15hrs every day. This has been going on since the 7th. June and will last for anything from 1 - 9 days constantly restarting at about the same time every day. This is the message logged into the router last night when the restart occurs:
( 29.860000) Auto channel selection (reason 'Power up') is complete. Selected channel: 6, noise data: 1-(-111) 2-(-112) 3-(-112) 4-(-112) 5-(-112) 6-(-112) 7-(-113) 8-(-110) 9-(-110) 10-(-110) 11-(-110) 12-(-112) 13-(-113).
Could this be the software upgrade trying to install or is there another issue? The settings on the HH3 are basically factory settings. My concern is that with all this restarting is my profile being affected and by association am I getting the best speed possible.
The last restart was last night and below I have posted the current settings. Any help on this would be appreciated.
Thanks Alan.

Sounds like the dial=up connection is dropping. My advice is to get it from a friend's house that has high speed internet. Put the iTunes Setup.exe file on a USB memory stick, take it to your PC and drag it to the desktop. Then run the install.

• Network Connection Has Timed Out? Please Help!

Ok i have downloaded 4 songs that have not been successfully downloaded. When I check for the purchases an error occurs and says the network connection has timed out. How can I fix this problem to get the songs downloaded?

Have no answer. Just wanted you to know that there is another sufferer out here. Same issue. Bought 4 selections ranging from about 5 minutes to 15 minutes. Downloads just CRAWL compared to what I have previously experienced with Itunes. Message is "Stopped Err=3529" when it times out. I DL quite a bit of classical music and it usually just trucks along. I installed the latest "greatest" version of iTunes just before this began. I have a very fast PC with lots of memory and connection speed. No reason initially to suspect the problem is at my end. Maybe somebody out there will hear our screams.
