Exchange Online : Unread Email Count

I'm looking to get an export of the number of unread emails in the inboxes of several users. We will use this to bring to the attention of those users that they need to keep up with their email better than they already are, based on the number returned.
I have yet to find a viable solution for this.

The only way I can think of is to run some sort of an EWS based script against those mailboxes. Check here for example:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/dn535506(v=exchg.150).aspx#bk_getewsma
There's a complete example here:

  • IPad unread email count doesn't tally with Microsoft Exchange 2007 email count from OWA.

I discovered that when we first setup the iPad to sync email from Microsoft Exchange 2007 server via ActiveSync, the total number of unread email count tally with the count from OWA. After a few days, the unread email count will be out of sync. The settings for iPad "Mail days to syn": No limit. Mail to show: 1000. iPad iOS: 5.1.1
    We performed the following:
    1.     Compare email by email to verify which are the read email from OWA doesn't sync to iPad. We discovered that some emails read from OWA doesn't sync with iPad even performed forced update. However, if we delete that read email from OWA, it will delete (unread) from iPad immediately after sync.
    2.     Email recall message for successful recalled displayed in OWA but not on iPad.
    3.     Calendar invite message forward as email displayed in OWA but not in iPad.
Is there a bug for Microsoft Exchange 2007 or there is limitation for iPad?
    Any kind expert can advice?
    Thanks.

Can you do setup an unread mail folder that shows all unread mail regardless of what folder it really is in on the iPhone mail program somehow?
    No.
If not, can this be submitted as an enhancement as it makes email use very cumbersome.
Yes. You can submit feedback to Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html.

  • Unread email count Is 3900 after upgrade to IOS 8.1.2

AFter upgrading to IOS 8.1.2 my unread email count jumped to 3900 even though there is no email on my phone and none on the server. Is there a way of clearing this count?

    Hi, jaff067.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that you have an unread message counter, but your mail account indicates all mail is read.  This usually means that you have an additional mail account setup.  Check to see if you can access this account or change mailboxes and clear the unread via the steps below.

  • Unread email count wrong on my IPad

The Unread email count is wrong on my IPad. I have read other threads about this issue but they all seem to point to Macs. I did just update to IOS 6 last Monday(5 days ago)

I deleted the account and reinstalled it and the count is now correct.

  • Unread Email Count wrong for all eternity?

I've read a number of threads where people had the same problem but I've never seen a solution. My unread email count on my Yahoo mail is stuck at 5 (+ whatever unread emails I really have.)
    I've:
--Double-checked all folders. There are no unread emails I'm missing
--Marked all emails as read in Yahoo just in case
--Deleted and re-added my Yahoo mail account on my phone
--Turned off and on, and done a hard reset on my phone
--Prayed, sang voodoo chants, and yelled at the thing
The false unread emails mock me. It's a minor annoyance but it bugs me because everything else just works so well that it sticks out.
Anyone have the same problem and solve it? Please?!
    Thanks, Jeff

Try doublclicking on the home button, find Yahoo icon, hold till wiggles, press red sign and close it... then reopen Yahoo and see if the issue is still there.
It may work, but it is a very long shot.

  • Outlook 2013 folders not showing unread email count for incoming emails

When a new email comes in, it would show up in its folder in bold, indicating it's unread email, which is good, but there is no blue number (unread email count) next to the folder. Outlook repair didn't help. No one else on the network has this problem.
How to fix it so when a new email comes in the unread email count would update itself?

    Hi,
Does this issue happen to all folders (including Inbox)?
Please right click on one folder, and select Properties, and make sure the "Show number of unread items" option is selected. If it is already selected, change it to "Show total number of items", click OK. Then, change it the "Show
number of unread items" again to see the result.
Please let me know the result.

  • Unread Email Count change after ios7 upgrade

In ios 6 the unread email count was based on the how many weeks/days of email you sync. Now after upgrading to ios7 the unread email count for me between gmail and ymail is 1000s of email as I have unread email on the server from 2012 and 2011 which I dont snyc with phone(since I only snyc last week of emails). Is there a way to customize the settings so the unread email count setting goes back to how it was in ios6.

I meant to say "In ios 6 the unread email count was based on the how many unread emails you have on your phone. With number of email on the phone was dependent on the # of weeks/days setting for the email". Now with ios7 the number of unread emails are based on the number of unread emails total you have for that email account.

  • Exchange and Unread Email

I'm having trouble retrieving my email from our company's Exchange server. It used to work, but for the past couple of months, I've had trouble getting the unread emails. Once I open/read the email in Outlook, it does appear in my iPhone email inbox. I've rebuilt the account and tinkered with the setting on how many messages to retrieve to no avail. I've looked at the Exchange "oma" web site, and the emails are there. I have no problems with my POP3 accounts. Any guidance/solutions would be most appreciated.
    Jon

I've looked into this extensively with iPhone IOS 5 and iPad devices - the actualy protcol IOS uses to deliver mail to the phones is actually a very lightweight send and recieve engine. XNU (the kernel responsible for driving IOS platform that apple use to write IOS) requires this to make the usability of the mail applications very fast and steamlined.
If XNU integrated a heavy send and recieve protocol, the whole mail performance module on the devices would become slow and clunky (very similar to the microsoft platform on version 6 which did indeed have the FAT pull technology so that the end-points were in sync with the server side platform).
Hence - having other sync'd features such a true unread item user count is simply stripped out of the iPhone/iPads engine for performance reasons.

  • Mail Icon Unread email Count

I just got the iphone 4s.  (i had the 3gs and had to go to droid due to family plan on sprint.)  Anyhow i am back on iphone and i was hoping someone can remind me how to remove the unread email number count on the Mail icon.  I believe there was a setting etc which allowed me to remove this.  You input is appreciated.

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is damaged and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results.

  • Unread email count on lock screen?

Sorry if this is a newb question - just got the iPhone and have searched and dorked around with this thing to no avail... how do I get the unread email message count to show up on my lock screen? Having the voice and text message count would be cool too.

Of course, if you were to jailbreak your phone (and all the bricking risks this incurs - and I suffered repeated inexplicable crashes while my phone was jailbroken) there is an awesome app that allows you to customise exactly what you will see on the lock screen.
Why Apple doesn't offer this, I do not know - it's so annoying when you have a lock code set up, to have to have to click the home button, swipe & tap in the code just to see if you have any updates in any of your apps... Apple's vaunted UI has clearly not been applied here. I am surprised that Steve isn't ****** himself at having to do this every time. (Maybe Steve's phone is an in-house apple-jailbreak model?)

  • Unread email count

After installing IOS 7.0.2 on my iPad and iPhone my mailbox shows 22,000+ unread emails - probably the number in my account since the beginning of time.
How do I get it to show the number of unread current emails - as it did before.

This problem is still goin in 2015 with the IOS 8.  The problem is that the iPad/iPod only shows part of the emails In the account. So in order to solve this you have to go into the email account on your desktop ( a mobile version will not work) and then spend about an hour ( for 22000 emails) marking all as read. If delete the account on your iPad/iPod, reboot and the load account again, then when it has synced properly the this will be solved.
i Think the problem starts, as it did for me in that sometimes there is a large gap between the account synch with the DFI e, and you get some phantom emails. And so ( and thus do not do this) you attempt to clear by maKing all as unread, and then marking all as read) this may work sometimes, but what then can happen as ALL the emails in the underlying accounts are marked as unread....and so you get thousand showing on your indicator. But you only get about 50 on the mobile device, so marking them as all Read, only effects those on the device and not the underlying account.  So I read on these forums, this a a bug and cannot fix it. We wait for Apple to helps solve this on an update ( 2 years and waiting) . But by going to the underlying desktop account and spending some time, you can solve it...and then never ever again mark all as Unread!
I hope, this helps those still finding this problem

  • Unread Email Count Incorrect

I have an HTC Rhyme and so far it's great except for one really annoying issue. My email seems to not want to sync up with my computer accounts because every day at the end of the day every email that I have received shows up as unread. It's getting frustrating having to go through and mark each one as read.
Is there some sort of setting that I'm missing? I can't figure out why it's not syncing correctly and it's driving me crazy.

Are you reading the email from phone or desktop, if you are reading from desktop you simply need to open the email menu and click menu / refresh and it will update the read files...
Now if you are reading from device are you making sure to leave message open log enogh to have it register it as read, simply open and closing it doesnt always update status and if you are reading through a widget or other app this does not update the message as read..

  • Wrong number of unread email count on the dock mail icon

Hi, I recently got an upgrade to 10.8.4. Since then. my mail icon in the dashboard doubles the number of emails by 2. If there are 3 emails, the number reads 6. Any suggestions for an annoyance, not a serious problem I assume. Thanks

  • How do I count the number of unread emails in WebCenter ?

how can I show unread emails counter on webcenter spaces ( I used the default WC Mail task flow )

    Hi Euler,
interestingly enough, the reference guide for CMIS ( http://wiki.alfresco.com/wiki/CMIS_Query_Language ) that I found does not mention the COUNT function at all. On the other hand it states that: "The SELECT clause identifies which virtual columns to return in the result set. It can be either a comma-separated list of one or more queryNames of properties that are defined by queryable object types or * for all virtual columns."
There are, however, some other posts like e.g. http://alfrescoshare.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/count-the-total-number-of-documents-in-alfresco-using-sql/ which state that they could make it working.
Having asked in the WebCenter Portal forum, I assume that your content repository is WebCenter Content. The CMIS doc for the Content is available here: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/doc.1111/e15813.pdf (no COUNT there either). It does, however, mention explicitly that "CMIS queries return a Result Set where each Entry object will contain only the properties that were specified in the query.". This means your could rather investigate the Result Set. Note that there are also other means than CMIS how to get the requested result set (e.g. calling a search service directly via so-called RIDC).
In the given context I am also interested what your use case is. OOTB CMIS in WebCenter Portal is used, for instance, in Content Presenter, where it is content rather than "parameters" what's displayed.
