Exchange question

If I have a defective device, can I exchange it for a working one if I'm a few days past the 14 day return/exchange policy?

If it is defective it would be replaced under the manufacturers warranty. Past the initial 14 days means a refurbished device, unfortunately. Can I ask what device, and what's defective about it?

Essentials Hyper-V and SQL/Exchange Questions

Looking at helping a company out that currently runs SBS 2003. They have onsite Exchange and SQL. They are needing to replace their hardware. Currently have 3 physical servers.
Hyper-V:
I'm looking at exploring using 1 server with more ram and better processor and run Hyper-V. I've seen where Essentials 2012 R2 supports Hyper-V. The VMs MUST be Essentials OS - this is fine. Can I have 1 physical server running Essentials
2012 R2 and more than 1VM-guest (3 or so VMs) running Essentials? I would of course purchase 3 licenses of Essentials 2012 R2 - but can the physical server support 3 VM Guests if it is running Essentials 2012 R2? I've seen where Hyper-V is now supported
- but the wording suggests only 1 VM can run on the host.
Exchange:
They currently have onsite Exchange 2003 and would prefer to keep the on-premise solution. It is my understanding that purchasing SBS 2003 includes a license for exchange. Is Essentials the same way or is there a separate purchase for Exchange
server 2013?
SQL:
Basically same as Exchange - SBS 2003 came with full SQL server. Is this a separate purchase with Essentials or can I run SQL on a VM?
Last question:
Assuming that Exchange/SQL are NOT included - do we know why Microsoft would remove these licensing features. It would almost make more sense to move from SBS 2003 to SBS 2011 if that is the case. Thoughts?

You can do this yes.
You have to install it as Essentials, then do the Hyper V install bits and get your Essentials guest running.
Then you can assign an additional license of Server standard to the same hardware, essentially giving you 1+3.

You must purchase Exchange and SQL separate and you do need CALs for Exchange and SQL. Wether or not you will need CALs for 'Sever' is a question of whether clients will use features on the SQL or Exchange box not covered by those CALs. Of course Essentials
is CAL-Less for up to 25 users.

Partition Exchange questions

I’m on 10gR2.
1) Is it possible to exchange the partition between two LIST partitioned tables? I know it’s possible to exchange partition between a partitioned table and a non-partitioned table but not sure on two partitioned table. Any one has done this?
2) IF I perform following, what would happen to SELECT that already in progress on the Partitioned table P1? Will it continue or will it be interrupted? Will my result be based on old data or exchanged data? i.e. Read consistency be applied in this case?
ALTER TABLE T1 EXCHANGE PARTITION P1 with table T2

You can exchange a simple table with a partition of a partitioned table.
You can exchange an entire (simple) partitioned table with a single partition of a composite partitioned table. To move a partition from one list-partitioned table to another you will have to do a "double-exchange" (or worse).
e.g. To swap partition pX of table pt1 with partition pY of table pt2:
Create empty simple table T of the right shape
alter table PT1 exchange partition pX with table T
alter table pT2 exchange partition pY with table T
alter table pT1 exchange partition pX with table T

In simple cases, the result will be correct. Oracle introduced a form of "cross-DDL" read-consistency in Oracle 8.0 for exactly this reason. It is possible (though a little unlikely after so many years) that you might find some bugs in it in complicated cases. I know that in the very early days I had some cases where queries would silently lose partitions after an exchange and give the wrong results.
The thing to watch out for is that the data segments you renamed (and still need current queries to see) do not get over-written. For example, a query against T1 that started just before the exchange you've quote above will want to see the data in the thing that is now table T2 - and that's possible. Even if you drop table T2, the query can still complete safely. But if you drop T3, and then create a new object that overwrites the hole left by T2, the query will crash when it starts to read that space with an error like ORA-01410 invaliid rowid, or something similar.

Microsoft Exchange Questions

I have exchange working on my Iphone but can not get it to link up with my MacBook. I don't understand what is the problem.
Error message says my email address is invalid yet I us the same format as my IPhone. Help.

Apple's "fixes" are screwing things up more.
Is this another indication of Apple not supporting business use?
Maybe I'll get to frustrated I'll quit my job and spend all my money on itunes music...

Exchange Questions

I use a Mac at home and at my job. I work at a University and have a university email address. In order to use mail.app to access my .edu I need Kerberos that is configured to my university. I tried to do all of that per IT's help. It doesn't work.
They suggested that I get an exchange account for my .edu and set it up with entourage. However, I would really like to use mail.app and ical. Is there a way to do that myself once I have the entourage set up? I also have an iphone and would like to set it up there too. I imagine I just need to fill in the information to be able to access the .edu exchange account.
Another issue is that I have a calender on ical that I use for work. How would I publish that on an exchange server instead of mobile me (what i am doing now) and access it from my phone?

Possible exchange questions

I want to know if its possible for me to exchange my macbook pro 13" i got it early feb with the newer model. I bought it at best buy if that means anything.

The problem with buying any computer is there is ALWAYS a new faster, cheaper, better one just around the corner if you wait a few weeks or months. Because technology moves so quickly attempting to keep up is a proposition you just can't win. Therefore when you want or need a new computer make sure the available products suit your current and projected needs and don't worry about newer machines when they come out.

Return / Exchange Question...

I recently bought a MBP and when I got it opened, there was a small nick in the aluminum below the keyboard. I went in to the apple store twice about it, and the second time they were very helpful and told me to call apple care. After a while on the phone, they issued me a RMA number and emailed me a shipping label. I took it to work in it's original boxes, etc., and shipped it out on my lunch hour. When I got home from work I realized I didn't put the power cord in the box! I was wondering how I should handle this, as I don't want to delay the replacement computer from getting here (I'm on a PC right now and MISS my MBP). Anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to them or can I just authorize them to bill me or...? Thanks.

Exchange 2010 - Trying to Manage Email Distribution to users.

SBS Standard 2011 with Exchange Server 2010
Several Workstation
Current setup:-
Distribution List (All Users)
5 Group Members of All Users
All Group Members receive all emails (individual mailbox) that arrive
Questions:- I am looking for a setup where 2 Group Members can see all emails that arrive, but the other 3 Group Members can only see the emails from the 3 of them. Is this possible? The other 2 Group Members will have their own distribution list.

The email is still live and active, we aren't sure why you are getting an error reported back.
I did get a fairly quick description of Marketplace vs. Exchange. The Marketplace is where information about solutions related to Photoshop can be 'published' including books, DVD, training, events, etc. It doesn't provide an upload service, but relies on the 'publishers' download site. Exchange does provide upload and direct download, and is more limited to things that one would use to extend the Ps application (brushes, presets, etc.).
Does this help explain the differences?

Exchange 2007/2010/2013 UM coexistence

We currently have an Exchange 2007/2010 environment in production along with Lync 2010 (UM provided).
I have installed a number of Exchange 2013 server and will be migrating ( over a LONG time ) to the new system.
In the meantime, I need to have all services co-existent across all three Exchange versions.
It looks like I have everything workign now except UM for Lync 2010.
I tried adding the Exchange 2013 server into the existing 2007/2010 dial plan and am having issues.
Here is what i did.
EAC
- Installed certificate on all Exchange 2013 servers
- Enabled Unified Messaging on all the servers
- Select server
- Set TLS
- Associated 2007/2010 Dial Plan
- Set UM service on certificate on all servers
- Restarted UM service
- Did the above for all MB and CAS servers
- Wait about an hour
Lync fails to send calls to voice mail, giving me events 45024 and 44022 on the Lync FE stating that Lync could not connect to the Exch MB servers and the attempt to connect to UM failed.
Any suggestions?
Do I need to rerun the following ?
- Exchucutl.ps1
- Ocsumutil.exe

When I go into the Exchange EAC Unified messaing / UM IP Gateway screen I see the Um IP Gateways configured in the legacy Exchange systems and had hoped that these existing gateway definitions would suffice.
Does exchucutil.ps1 need to run from a 2013 Exch server to initialize these gateways in Exch 2013?
On my fist attempt, VM was failing for my 2007/2010 users. I had not even started to test with a 2013 user. I successfully backed out by dis-associating the dial plan in the Exchange EAC console from all the Exch 2013 servers.
If I run exchucutil.ps1, try again, and it fails, what is my backout plan? Do I need to rerun exchucutil.ps1 on a legacy Exchange system? or will merely dis-associateing the diual plan in Exchange 2013 again suffice.

ADSL2+ at Riccall exchange now or not

I spoke to BT broadband support about 3 weeks ago and could not get a sensible answer from the operator. He promised he would investigate but has not come back to me - so hope somebody can help out -
dslchecker.bt.com and the BT sales "what speed can I get" checker say ADSL2+ is available on Riccall exchange with a downstream rate up to 17 Mbps on my phone number (sounds right as my copper length is approx 500 metres from the exchange from another site check)
Yet I appear to be stuck on ADSL Max up to 8 Mbps rate looking at my hub figures and speedtest.btwholesale.com tests at 6.8 Mbps download constantly (as expected for ADSL Max). BTW test will not let me do a diagnostic test at all (why?) so I cannot see my ip profile. Historically it showed approx 7000 ip profile which tallies with the tests I am getting now.
BT are now selling ADSL2+ as availlable on my number and exchange and I asked him was it that my ip profile was stuck or was it that the rolout had not occured ? He did not even understand what I was talking about - all he would say that no fault was showing. I told him time and again that this was not a fault query.
I told him that ADSL2+ was previously indicating a Feb 2014 availability at our exchange but the BT wholesale website was now showing it as available now - question 1 was that site wrong? was the WBC rollout spreadsheet at BTW website issued in December wrong? was the BT sales website wrong? - was it in fact still not activated? had my line been migrated (if necessary) to it? - he still was blank
Really simple questions -
1) is Riccall exchange active as ADSL2+ or not?
2) if not - when?
3) if yes - why not my line?
4) when for my line?
5) why has he not come back to me as promised?
I will tell my number to a BT person if they respond to this but at least someone my be able to answer the overall Riccall exchange question. Thanks in anticipation

Your exchange Riccall (MYRIC) is now showing a BTw 21cn ready and available.
As a BT Retail broadband customer and still in contract thenonce your exchange has been BTW 21cn upgraded then your will automatically be migrated to the new 21cn network. However be aware that this can take days to weeks to months after the exchange is BTw 21cn upgraded as the lines have to be manually migrated over in batches.
As to the BTw 21cn network which allows ADSL2/2+ modulation (upto 12/20mbps), the ADSL2/2+ modulations are more aggressive to any noise on your line. It may also increase your line attenuation by 2/4dB, therefore on longer lines it can make the connection unstable if your line isn't able to cope with these higher frequencies.
Also when your exchange has been 21cn upgraded, the lines have to be migrated to the new 21cn hardware in the exchange in batches so it can take days/weeks/months for all the lines to be migrated over to the 21cn network. Also you may be kept on ADSLMax (upto 8mbps) modulation but on the 21cn network if your line isn't able to cope with ADSL2/2+.
Some BT Retail customers have tried to recontract their BT Retail broadband and other services to try and skip the queue, however you may need to agree on a new contract period.
In my experience it took about 4 months for our line to be moved onto the BTw 21cn network after the exchnage had been BTw 21cn upgraded

Shared resource Calendar in a mixed exchange environment

So another Exchange question. Mixed environment with Exchange 2013 HUB, CAS, and MBX servers in one location and Exchange 2007 HUB, CAS, and MBX server at another location. Currently all mail comes in through the 2013 server, but the outbound mail is handled by the server at their location ie: site A has the Exchange 2013 server handle the outbound, and site B has the Exchange 2007 server handle the outbound.We do not use puplic folders.I need to have a Shared Resource calendar that will be used\accessed by multiple users that are located on either the 2013 or the 2007 mailbox servers. This calendar should be resident if possible on the 2007 mailbox server as management does not intend to upgrade the Exchange 2007 server in the forseeable future, but there could be the potential for seperating into stand alone email servers for each...

I would like for the users middle initial or middle name to show in outlook 2010. I
can set it in the header meaning I see the middle initial when the email comes in but its not in the signature. I read a post about the middle name attribute has to be set in a/d? if that is the case please provide some feed back on how to accomplish that?

In AD, the attribute name is "middleName". You can populate it in bulk using Powershell with
Set-ADUser cmdlet.
