Exchange Rate Differences when clearing a bank item

Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem when I try to clear a bank item with the bank statement because the document is creating two exchange rate differences, first one debiting to loss account and the other one credting to gain account. I'm not pretty sure if this behavior is the right one but It does not make any sense to me.
I'll detail step by step the process I'm following:
Example:
1.- I create an invoice with an exchange rate type of 15
2.- Then I make the incoming payment with an exchange rate type of 16 (This causes an exchange rate item that is correct for me. Exchange rate Item is for 10 usd)
3.- Then I try to clear the bank item created (same exchange rate than the incoming payment = 16), and now document creates two exchange rate items, the first one debiting to loss account for 10 usd and the second one crediting to gain account for 10 usd.
Could you please help me in order to know if this is ok?
I really appreciate your help
Thanks in advance
Best Regards
Manuel Nieto

Hi everyone,
Thanks everyone for your replies. I've realized what's happening, and its related to document split. Because as bank item in incoming payment was splitted, when I try to clear this item ,split happens again no matter if at clearing point exchange rate type is the same as in the incoming payment, that's the reason of the two items one debiting and one crediting for the same amount.
Thanks very much
Best Regards and thanks for your help.

  • Exchange rate differences whne clearing documents in local currency

    Hello,
While clearing customer documents in local currency , the system calculates exchange rate differences in the clearing document. Even if the amount in local currency is 0, the amount in second local currency will have a value. The same is happening also when we clear GR/IR account. In the case of customer clearing, becuse for the exachange rate differences account  are maintaied default values in OKB9, the system cannot split, since there are 2 different account assignments when tolerances are also involved.
I think that, if the exchange rate differences account wont be popluated while clearing, i will be able to post clearing with tolerance amounts.
Any idea about how to make the exchange rate differences not to be caulculated for clearing in local currency?
    Thank you,
    S.

    Hi,
Go to OBY6 and choose your company code.
For your company code, the check box No forex rate diff. when clearing in LC should have been checked in case if you dont want to calculate the exch rate diff when clearing open items in LC.
    This will solve your issue.
    Thanks,

    Md.nazeer Shaikh

    Hi All,
    Thanks for the replies.
Scenario. My client mainly deals with import export business.
When he post the GRPO the exchange rate may be 55 but when he posts the invoice it may be 55.5 in this case system will post the difference amount to the exchange rate difference account.
Second case when he make the payment it may be 60.Again the system by default posts to the exchange rate difference account.
My client wants everytime whenever he finds this scenario system should automatically increase/decrease the item cost.Is it possible in SAP B1

  • Avoid posting of realized exchange rate differences in 2nd local currency

    Dear SAP fans,
The situation here in our company is that a company code is set up with NZD as 1st and EUR as 2nd local currency (currency type 30 "Group currency" for EC-CS consolidation).
Therefore, all postings (and balances) are also translated and saved in EUR (with the current exchange rate).
We now have an open item managed G/L account for prepaid expenses, which is used to collect postings which are then cleared later. It's however no payable/receivable account for vendors/customers. Therefore, it doesn't make sense to post realized exchange rate differences when clearing this account. This is however what SAP wants to do when we try to clear it.
For example, if I post today 100 NZD and two months later again 100 NZD to this account. If the NZD vs. EUR exchange rate changed in the meantime, then SAP won't let me clear this account without posting realized exchange rate differences, which makes however no sense.
Does anyone of you meet this problem before? Could you please give me a hint?
I thought about setting the "Only balances in local currency" indicator in the G/L account master but this helps only for differences between local and document currency (and not for differences in 1st and 2nd local currency).
    Any help is highly appreciated!
    Thanks and best regards,
    Peter

    Dear Padma,
Thanks for your answer. The customizing activities you mentioned are already set up in the system. This is not our problem.
The problem is however, that we don't want SAP to post automatically realized exchange rate differences between 1st and 2nd local currency as this doesn't make sense in this business case.
It's about an open item managed G/L account which is used to collect posting which are later cleared. It's not a payable/receivable account for customers/vendors where the posting of realized exchange rate differences makes sense.
We've thought about several solution which unfortunately all didn't help us:
    - Don't setup realized exchange rate differences accounts or set them up only for group currency (in OB09)
    - Set indicator "Only balances in local currency" in G/L master data
    Best regards,
    Peter

  • Exchange rate differences posted when clearing but not  FAGL_FC_VAL

    Hello,
I need to configure accounts for exchange rate differences for clearing, but I if I configure just "account for Realized Exchange Rate Losses" and not " Account for Loss from Valuationu201D in OBA1, the account is selected in month end valuation ( FAGL_FC_VAL) and I do not want it because it ends on error.
Do you know how to cover this requirement?
    Cheers

    Hi,
You can exclude the account in the the forex reval run by excluding the GL account by specifiying the account in the variant used for period end processing.
Or you can use valuation area for period end processing in FAGL_FC_VAL and configure based on which the account if not maintained in the valuation area would not post.

  • FB05 - exchange rate difference problem

    Dear experts,
A customer document transferred from billing document is in currency USD while the local currency is EUR. Exchange rate is /1.32180. I clear this document of the customer using FB05, there are 3 items in the clearing document(the customer, the clearing account and an item of bank fees). On that day, the exchange rate /1.36150, and the configuration of OB09 have been set. However, the exchange rate difference goes to the bank fees account instead of the pointed account in OB09. this issue occurs sometimes not always.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi David
Your figures don't add up??? If I take the Local balance and the Foreign balance then the exchange rate applied would have been 9,641.77 at that point in time and not 11,945.30 or 10,894.03. At what point are any of these 2 applicable and were there any other exchange rate differences posted and not yet reversed?
Can you check your numbers and give me a more clear indication of what the problem is. Also 24,125.00 * 1,051.27 =  25,361,888.75 and not 2,202,357,298.05.
Let me know so I can better understand the issue.
    Kind regards

  • Exchange Rate difference for freight clearing

    Hi SAP Gurus,
I am facing a problem regarding exchange rate fluctuation. We have an import PO with USD (300 USD for Goods + 24 USD as freight).
The Problem has come at the time of IR
At the time of GR exchange rate was Rs.46.75, but at the time of IR the exchange rate is Rs.50.30
Incase of Goods (GR/IR Material) system attempt to post the difference amount (for foreign exchange fluctuation) to the account defined under Transaction u201CKDMu201D
But incase of freight (Freight Clearing) system attempt to post the difference amount (for foreign exchange fluctuation) to the account defined under Transaction u201CPRDu201D
I want to post the differences (for Goods & Freight) to the account defined under Transaction u201CKDMu201D
    Kindly help me.
    With Thanks & Regards,
       ___SAJIB SAHA___

Exchange rate differences for open items (KDM)
Exchange rate differences for open items occur when an invoice and a goods receipt for a purchase order are posted at different exchange rates and the material cannot be debited or credited due to standard price control or stock shortage.
    Price differences (PRD)
Price differences occur for materials subject to standard price control for all movements and invoices valuated at a price other than the standard price. Examples: goods receipts for purchase orders when the purchase order price differs from the standard price; goods issues when an amount is entered manually; invoices when the price invoiced differs from both the purchase order price and standard price.
Price differences can also occur for invoices for materials with a moving average price when there is insufficient stock coverage for the quantity invoiced.
Depending on the settings for the posting logic for the processing key PRD, you can work with or without account grouping. If you work with account grouping, the following are used in the standard system:
None for goods and invoice receipts for purchase orders
PRF for goods receipts for production orders and
    order settlement
PRA for goods issues and other movements
PRU for transfer postings (price differences for external amounts)

  • EXCHANGE RATE DIFFERENCE WHILE CUSTOMER CLEARING

    Hi,
while clearing the customer through f-32, system is not picking the exch. rate. gain/loss a/c. Also when I am clearing the payment on same date as the payment date, system is not picking the same exchange rate as it is for payment.
    Regards,
    akash

    Hello Akash,
    i think this may help:
The currency rate picked up by the system is the current one, not the
    rate in the posted document.
However, this can be avoided by setting the flag
flag "XSLTA" (no foreign exchange rate when clearing in Local currency).
    in fs03.
Please set this flag and then simulate the clearing with currency
(local currency). Exchange rate differences items are not posted.
Please refer to the field on line documentation for and example and
    further information.
    Kind regards,
    Jon

  • Only reseting the cleared documents with exchange rate differences in FBRA

    Hello,
we want only reset the cleared documents . We dont want to reverse the cleard documents. But When we try to do it we get a message Exchage difference are posted do you want to reverse it. Want we want to reset are in Doc.. currency. postings for August.
As i know when we have exchange rate difference we  dont get an option only resettng but we get reseting and reversing.
May i know how to slove this situation.
    Thank you
    Chaithra

    HiI
f you set this selection field then the settings in the ERD Setting column for this currency type are no longer relevant. The system calculates and posts exchange rate differences between order-related goods receipts and invoices not just for materials with standard price, but also for:
    Materials with moving average price
    Account-assigned transactions
    Planned delivery costs
The valuation of the inventories or consumption is effectively done at the exchange rate for the goods receipt, and not at the exchange rate of the invoice. When you post the good receipts, the fixed exchange rate from the purchase order is not used, but the translation of the purchase order values to local currency is always done at the posting date of the goods receipt.
If you are using the material ledger with actual costing, the system does not include the posted exchange rate differences at period-end closing in the actual prices of the materials.

  • Exchange Rate Differences function and when to use

The company I am asking about is based in the US, but also has offices and transactions in Canada.  Does the Exchange Rate Differences function need to be run at month-end before finalizing the financials, in order to "re-value" the Canadian accounts, such as Accts Receivable, Accts Payable, Fixed Assets, etc. that may not have changed during the last month (no activity during the "current" month)?  The financials are expressed in US Currency.  Transactions during the month to the various Canadian accounts are "re-valued" at the time of the transaction entry, since the exchange rates are updated every day in the system.  We need a clear-cut idea of when the Exchange Rate Differences function should be run.

I would say that you do need to do it. This is very important to ensure your account receivable control account (or payable) is revalued at the end of the month based on the new exchange rate.
I know some companies do not revalue the balances as it is not required. I think, revaluating the balance makes sense as it will give you a true picture of your payable or receivable at the end of the month. This is also a good way of accruing your exchange rate loss/gain.

1.) Where would I check the setting for the GL account used in the automatic line entry posted in group currency during IR? (3rd line item above)
2.) Can this be changed? Say instead of the original acct assignment, the management want to change it to FX gain/loss account
    3.) How?
I have checked several notes (331910,etc) but I can't seem to find the answers to my questions.
    Appreciate your help. Thanks!

    Dru

Just an update to this issue- I just found out that the system is pointing to KBS when posting the
exchange rate difference in group currency upon IR, hence, PO account
assignment is adopted. I'd like to rephrase my question- is there any
way we can change SAP behaviour such that it will point to other
transaction key (e.g. KDG) other than KDM? Bottomline is we want it
charged to other GL account not the one in the PO.
Thanks so much for your assistance.
