Exchange server 2010 - Hub Transport rule not working

Hello,
I'm trying to create a hub transport rule that blocks any incoming / outgoing email with attachments larger than 10MB with an exception of a few users.
I've followed this article https://www.simple-talk.com/sysadmin/exchange/increasing-email-size-limits-for-your-high-profile-users-in-exchange-2010/.
The send connector & receive connector is at 30MB right now and the distribution group has been made.
I added myself to the distribution group which allowed me to send a 20MB size email.
If I remove myself from the distribution group, exchange still allowed me to send the 20MB email size.
Any advise is much appreciated.
Thanks,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your response.
The Hub Transport server is responsible for handling transport rules. The transport rules can't work without a Hub server.
If there are any problems with Exchange, welcome to our forum.

  • Exchange Server 2010 - OWA, ECP, EWS not working

    Hello,
I am evaluating exchange server 2010. I was able to install it, but now the admin websites will not render in IIS.  OWA, ECP, etc. I especially want Outlook Anywhere to work.  I can admin through the windows admin interface so that's not a concern.
I want users to access their email through the web as well.  I checked permissions but could have them wrong. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

There are about twenty different types of 403 error. To see which one is happening here, you'd need to look at the IIS log files, and get the status subcode, which is the number after the 403 in the logged line.
The most common, though, is 403.4, which means 'SSL Required'.  What happens if you go to
https://servername (i.e. https instead of http).
Another one is 403.6, which means that IIS has been configured to only allow access to a certain range of IP address, and the one you're trying to access it from isn't one of them.

    I get the following error;
"[ERROR] Couldn't remove product with code 4934d1ea-be46-48b1-8847-f1af20e892c1. Fatal error during installation. Error code is 1603.
This is one of two Hub Transport only servers. The Client Access servers upgrade without a problem.

    Hi,
Based on my research, to remove the error, here is a solution you can refer to:
    1. Run the MsiExec.exe /X {4934d1ea-be46-48b1-8847-f1af20e892c1} to uninstall the Microsoft Full Text Indexing Engine for Exchange.
    2.  Manually start the World Wide Web Publishing Service and IIS Admin Service then run the setup again.

  • Exchange Server 2010 SP3 Databases are not mounting after the recovery process

    Hi,
We are using Exchange server 2010 SP3 in our office. Databases are stored in an ISCSI drive mapped with the exchange. We are taking daily full backup of my Exchange server using Symantec Backup exe 2012. As a testing purpose I created a test environment
same like my existing live environment to check the disaster recovery and backup. Thankfully disaster recovery worked well and I am able to open the exchange management console and powershell. But I am not able to mount the recovered databases ending
with an error saying "Couldn't mount the database that you specified. Specified database: officialrecover; Error code:
An Active Manager operation failed.........." and even I am not able to use the utility eseutil.exe to the database with an error "access to source database failed with jet error 1811". I am able to create a new database and mount
    it.
I am using Windows Server Ent 2008 R2 64 Bit with Exchange Server 2010 SP3 in the Live environment with 3 partitions called C (279 GB), E (4.46 TB, ISCSI), F (976 GB) in my Live environment.
    For test it is Windows Server Ent 2008 R2 64 Bit with Exchange Server 2010 SP3 with 3 partitions C (240 GB), E (1.4 TB), & F (240 GB).
Please help me with your valid comments to solve and mount the database and close the issue for ever.
    With Regards
    Jay

Jared is correct that in essence the message is saying the DB cannot be found.
When you restored to your recovery server are all the paths the same, i.e. if the DB existed on E:\XYZ on the production server it must be the same on the recovery server
When you restored into the recovery site do you have AD restored into that site as well?
For the recovery server are you using iSCSI storage for it as well?   If so am I correct to assume that you have copies of the databases just for use on this server and are not trying to reference the same instance of the DB from the production
    and test/recovery server?
I have also seen an issue where DB's getting written to disk from Symantec mess up the header of the DB.  If you want to validate that the DB is actually intact and accessible you might want to check out our DigiScope product
http://www.lucid8.com/product/digiscope.asp using a free DEMO license.  If it works i.e. you are able to mount in DigiScope from same location where its failing on the recovery server we know the
DB your pointing at is good and accessible from the current path but something else is amiss in your configuration

  • SCOM 2012 R2 & Exchange Server 2010 SP3 - Mailbox services not monitored

Having done everything depicted in Exchange Server 2010 MP I still have trouble with some Exchange services - they are in not monitored state (five days passed):
Mailbox All Database Services - Default-First-Site-Name
    Mailbox Database Service - Management - test.local
    Mailbox Database Service - PublicFolders - test.local
    Mailbox Database Service - Users - test.local
Mailbox Many Database Service - Default-First-Site-Name
    OfflineAddressBook Service - Default-First-Site-Name
Why is this happening? Since monitoring exchange mailbox databases is one of the most important tasks SCOM should be doing I assume something wrong is going on here. However there are no errors or alerts in SCOM console nor in OpsMgr
    log on Exchange server itself.

    Hi There,
Did you install the Microsoft Exchange monitoring correletion service while importing the Exchange 2010 management pack ?
Does your MS have RMS Emulator role ? As many alerts in the Exchange 2010 MP are targetted to Root management server class.
Also did you configure Test mailboxex and stuff post Exchange 2010 Import ?
Did you analyse the Ops manager Event logs in the MS and Agent ? Can you post the critical and Warnign events here.
Also is Agent proxy enabled ?
Also is the Action account of the Agents System or Domain account ?

  • Exchange Server 2013 - Mailflow - Transport Rules - Autoreply to External Email Addresses and Customizable Template

    Hi There,
I have two question relating to this topic:
Question 1 - Can I set up an auto reply message (e.g. Thank you for submitting your enquiry....) to any emails that are
only external and not including our domain to the organisation for a specific email address. I need to be able to specify other domains also that I don't want this rule to be applied to?
Question 2 - If this is possible, is there a customizable template that can be used for the auto reply message?
    Hopefully someone can help!

    Hi Eric,
This needs to be completed from another program either exchange / ?
There is a problem if you configure this from an actual mailbox / OWA due to the lack of configuration options available.
    Here's a more detailed scenario:
We have a mailbox that our records department use e.g.
[email protected] to register incoming mail from. This also has an alias that external people send to e.g.
[email protected] . We still need staff within our domain to send emails to the
[email protected] and do not want the auto message (e.g. Thank you for submitting your enquiry....) sent to those internal staff. There is the possibility of a looping being created otherwise.
Only people outside the organisation sending an email to
[email protected] should receive the auto reply message (e.g. Thank you for submitting your enquiry....).
We need the ability to add in an exception to the rule to bypass or not process the rule if the sender is a part of *@ourdomain.com which means they will not receive an auto reply. We also need
to be able to add other domain we specify e.g.
*@someoneelsedomain.com not to receive the auto reply.
We currently use MailMarshal to perform the above task but will be decommissioning this during the Exchange 2013 implementation soon to begin. We are not installing an Microsoft Edge Transport server that I believe does allow configurable rules like
this as all of our mail will first  be routed through the Symantec / Telstra solution first. I'm still trying to find out if the Symantec solution can complete this process for us but I doubt it.
This is why I'm trying to find out if Exchange 2013 from the admin console somehow can complete the rules and exceptions that we require above.
    Thanks
    Lisa

  • Exchange Server 2013 - Mailflow - Transport Rules - Forwarding Emails with Specific Text to Another Email Address

    Hi There,
We are soon to implement Exchange 2013.
Question: Is it possible to have emails with specific text such as "..SND.." to an other email address specified as well as the original recipient?
    Thanks very much.
    Lisa.

    Hi Amit,
Thanks for answering my question. I have one more. To enable rules like this do you need to have an Exchange Edge Transport server installed or is this configured from an admin console within Exchange itself?
    Thank you,

  • Exchange Server 2010 Edge Transport Subscription Issue while moving Internal CA Certificate to 3rd Party Certificate

My Client have a Exchange 2010 Organization with Single Domain Single Forest.
They were using Internal CA Certificate and a TLS Cert.
As a POC we are doing a POC for Exchange 2010 Hybrid Office 365 Environment.
For this 3rd Party CA is Mandatory and they have bought a Geo Trust Certificate.
Now when they have installed cert on both HUB as well as EDGE servers, he was prompted to do edge subscription again.
HUB and CAS are combined on the server at both Main and DR Site.
When they try to do edge subscription again they are getting the following error.
SYED WASIL UDDIN Infrastructure Consultant/System Engineer Premier Systems (Pvt.) Ltd.

I was finding out the solution and got this.
1-Certificate will import on both EDGE and HUB Servers.
2-Edge Sync will use Self-Sign Certificate (but I an unable to find how do I configure this)
3-some communication between Edge and Hub will be encrypted via 3rd party Certificate.
Could anyone suggest, which services on HUB must based in this 3rd party cert.
All the external communication must be encrypted via 3rd party CA and communication between HUB-EDGE will set on self-sign Cert. How do I do this.

  • Exchange server 2010 Hub-Cas server role remove from organization

    Dear all,
I am going to remove my one of my hub-cas(both the roles installed in same server)server from my organization.
Cas server configured into cas array. So anyone please guide me to remove safely.

    Hi,
From your description, I would like to clarify the following thing:
If you use NLB, you need to remove the CAS server from your NLB cluster and then remove this CAS&Hub server. If you use other sort of load balancer, you need to use it to remove the server from the CAS array and then remove the server.
    Hope it helps.

  • "Message Queued for submission" performance counter high for Exchange Server 2010 Database

    Hi,
We are receiving SCOM Alert as "Mail Submission service is experiencing issue: Messages Queued for Submission-sustained for 15 mins-RED (>25)".
After checking the "Messages queued for Submission" counter on the repective server it was found that the value is 66 but when we check the queue viewer we dont observe any messages stuck in Submission queue.
Would like to know what aspects can be checked here, in order to troubleshoot the issue?
The counter shows 0 value in perfmon for all other mailbox databases.
    Thanks & Regards.

    Hi,
This is a known issue with Exchange Server 2007 and Exchange Server 2010.  We do not recommend that you use this counter for health alerts.
I recommend you refer to the following article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2921142/en-us
It is caused by the MailSubmission service submits a message for delivery multiple times, the counter is incremented two times but decremented only one time. This situation can leave the counter with a positive value even though there
is no message in the queue. When you restart the service, the counter is reset.

To narrow down the cause, I recommend the following troubleshooting:
Check if the issue happens on all users.
Try to directly login OWA 2010  and check if it works well.
Check the IIS log on CAS 2013 server and find the error related to OWA.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard "Certificate Authority Service" / Exchange Server 2010 EMC not starting and no AD connectivity for authentication.

    Hello,
I am a new IT Manager at this company and need assistance big time. Their environment looks as follows:
Server 1. Domain Controller Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) running active directory.
Server 2. Email Server (Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard) running Exchange Server 2010 .
    * Note. No back ups to work with aside from whats mentioned below.
DC had a virus infection causing a lot of issues on the shared network drives 2 days ago locking up all the files with a crypto ransom virus. Running Avast suppressed the infection. Had to recover the file shares which luckily had a back up.
The issue is that the Exchange Server 2 post this lost connectivity with the AD Server 1. Exchange Server 2 when launching EMC could not launch the console stating the following:
"No Exchange servers are available in any Active Directory sites. You can’t connect to remote
Powershell on a computer that only has the Management Tools role installed."
Shortly after I found that it is possible the EMC launcher was corrupt and needed to be reinstalled following another blog post. I deleted the exchange management console.msc  per instructions only to discover I couldnt relaunch it because there was
no way how. So I copied another msc file that happened to be on the DC Server 1  back to Exchange Server 2 and got it to launch again.
Another post said that it might be an issue with the Domain Account for the Computer, so to delete it in the AD Server 1 only to find that rejoining it from Exchange Server 2 using Computer>Properties> Chage Settings > Change is greyed out because
it is using the Certificate Authority Service.
I tried manually re-adding the computer in AD and modeling permissions after another server in group settings but no go. After this I was unable to login to the Exchange Server 2 with domain accounts but only local admin, receiving the following Alert:
"The Trust Relationship between this workstation and primary domain failed."
I tried running the Power Shell tools on Exchange Server 2 to rejoing and to reset passwords for domain accounts as noted in some other blogs but no luck as the Server 2 could not make the connection with Server1 or other errors it kept spitting out.
I also during the investigation found the DNS settings were all altered on both the Server 1 and Server 2 which I luckily was able to change back to original because of inventorying it in the beginning when I started.
I need help figuring out if I need to rejoin the Exchange Server 2 manually by disabling the Certificate Authority Service (or removing the CA as listed here:
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/fb23deab-0a12-410d-946c-517d5aea7fae/windows-server-2008-r2-with-certificate-authority-service-to-rejoin-domain?forum=winserversecurity
and getting exchange server to launch again. (Mind you I am relatively fresh to server managing) Please help E-Mail has been down for a whole day now!

  • Exchange Server 2010: Incoming mail not delivered

I have an Exchange Server 2010 Standard with all recent patches and updates.
-It has been in service for 3 years without any issues.
-There is plenty of hard drive space for the logs and the data (over 100GB in each)
-The current size of the mail database is 150GB
-There is no registry entry in place limiting the size of the database ([url="http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232092.aspx"]Database Size Limit in GB as outlined here[/url]
Starting a few days ago, incoming mail is reaching the server but not being delivered to user mailboxes. Internal mail works fine when this happens. Looking at the Queue Viewer doesn't show anything abnormal. The Submission Queue shows nothing.
It is only after I reboot the Exchange Server that the Submission queue will show all the messages waiting to be delivered and they will all be delivered successfully after the reboot. The event logs do not show any error messages.
The server will continue to run fine for a few hours and then the problem starts all over again.
    What could be causing this?

Any 3rd party antivirus/anti-spam software installed on the server? If so, disable and test.

  • Is it possible to remove 2010 Hub Transport entirely in an Exchange 2013 environment?

I'm using Exchange 2010 Edge Transport in our organization that I've recently upgraded to Exchange 2013. I like Edge Transport - along with our spam filter it is an effective and simple way to send and receive external e-mail - and I don't want
to get rid of it.  But it seems like it needs a 2010 Hub Transport server to interact with.
Right now the only other Exchange 2010 Server I have left running in the organization is the one Hub Transport server that interacts with the Edge Server.  Is there a way to undeploy this server too and connect the Edge Server directly to one of the
2013 Mailbox Servers?  Or will this need to stay as part of the organization as a pair with Edge Transport?
I noticed mail flow was running just fine while the Hub Transport server was turned off.  So it seems like it's possible.  But I want to be able to undeploy it safely without hurting mail flow.  Are there any links or white papers that show
    how best do do this?
----------- Ron E Biggs Chief Tech Officer Entertainment Studios

Before you remove your HUB servers, make sure you re-subscribe the Edge server using the below steps:
    On Edge Server:
    New-EdgeSubscription -FileName "C:\EdgeSubscription.xml"
copy the file to one of the mailbox servers, and run:
    New-EdgeSubscription -FileData ([byte[]]$(Get-Content -Path "C:\EdgeSubscription.xml " -Encoding Byte -ReadCount 0)) -Site
    "ADSITENAME"
once completed, most of the tasks to manage/test your Edge sync will be via PowerShell, please see the below link for more details:
