Exchange Server 2013- Information Store Service not starting

Hi Everyone,
We are having an issue with one of our Exchange Servers that is running Exchange Mailbox server role.
Server : Exchange 2013 CU3 , Windows Server 2012 R2
We noticed on Friday that its "Information Store Service" has stopped working and we try to manually run it (Services->Microsoft
Exchange Information Store Service -> Start)
Service didn't start and gave : Error 0x80004005 Unspecified Error
Trying to start the service using the command line using:  net start MSexchangeIS gave us a different error:
System Error 16389 has Occurred
The system can not find message text for message number 0x4005 in the message file for BASE
Event viewer has  (Event ID : 7031):
The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 1 time(s).  The following corrective action will be taken in 5000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
Since we have got this error we have tried some fixes such as  Checking Time synchronisation  and IPv6 issues. But nothing
seems to have caused this. We have rebuild the windows server from scratch and used the recover server switch to  rebuild the Exchange server. Still the same issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tiraj,
Any update? Does the issue still occur after install Exchange server on Windows Server 2012?
I wonder if the issue occurs suddenly or did you configured something on database.
In addition, overload on server could also cause the issue.

  • Exchange 2013 Information Store Service not starting

    This is the event viewer error: Event 4027 Msexchange AdAccess.
    This is the description in spanish of the event:
    Proceso w3wp.exe (PID= 2788). Error en la solicitud WCF (Get Servers for xxxxx) al servicio de topología de Active Directory de Microsoft Exchange en el servidor (TopologyClientTcpEndpoint (localhost))

    Hello. We rebooted our Exchange 2013 Server and now  Information Store Service is not starting among other main services.
    When I try to start manually the service it turns an error 2414. I found out in some pages that enabling IPv6 should make it work but in my case it doesn't.
    Any idea?

    Error 0xfffffc15 starting the Microsoft Exchange Information Store.
    Failed to set Default Jet params.

    The server seemed to have restarted on the weekend and the monday I was alerted of the problem.
    Yes I did have a anti-virus program running on the server and I have removed the AV Kaspersky Endpoint 8 and the Security Centre but I cannot remove the Mail Server but I think I have turned it off.
    EDIT:
    Sorry and yes all the other services seem to start fine.
    Originally discovered the issue when users could not open Outlook then I discovered the Database was un-mounted and the service was not starting.

  • Recover mailbox from Exchange server 2010 information store to exchange server 2013

    I have a big issue. I have a correct exchange server 2010 where the active directory is corrupt but the information store is good.
    I would like to recover a couple of mailboxes to an exchange server 2013.
    Can anyone give me a detailed walk through of how I can accomplish this?
    Thank in advance

    Well if your AD is messed up that leaves you in a jam for sure because;
    1. Database portability ONLY works within the same organization, so you cannot just install a new 2010 server in a completely different forest and then move the DB in hopes that DB portability will work.
    2. As Ed said you should build a new Exchange 2010 server and use portability but it has to be in the same organization.
    3. Here is a good article on how to accomplish
    http://exchangeserverpro.com/exchange-2010-database-portability-disaster-recovery/
    4. Now if you by chance have an AD backup before it went south you could build a separate network with same names etc just keep it isolated from the production server and then restore AD to that environment and you could then use DB portability.
    That said if you don't have any other machines to work with then you are in a bit of a pickle and will have to use a 3rd party product to get to that data within the 2010 DB.   We make a product that can do this (DigiScope), however if you don't
    have any budget to handle its a non-issue.
    The only other thing you could consider is to restore your AD from a previous point in time, however BE VERY CAREFUL if you consider this since it could cause more issues then you have now.
    BTW if you AD is messed up, where are you putting this new 2013 server?
    Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 -->
    2007 --> 2010 --> 2013 with Lucid8's
    DigiScope

  • Exchange Server 2013 REST EWS service

    Exchange Server 2013 introduces REST EWS service which enables us to retrieve user's photo either from exchange or AD server.
    Does it provides this functionality only? Does REST EWS service provide APIs to pull data or items from inbox, calendar, journal and Notes etc?
    If yes, then it is not documented on MSDN site.
    Can you please confirm if REST EWS service provides all the API which SOAP based EWS service provides? Or does it provide only limited functionality?

    To follow up on this conversation, there are many REST APIs now available in Exchange Online.

  • Exchange Server 2013: incoming messages are not delivered into user mailboxes occasionally

    Exchange Server 2013 CU1, two mailbox servers (DAG, only one mail database), two CAS servers (NLB cluster). Two Sendmail/CentOS-based SMTP relays route mail between Exchange servers and Internet (incoming mail is routed to NLB cluster name).
    Usually mail flow is OK: messages are sent and received normally. However, I've got several complains from different users. They state that occasionally they don't receive messages that were sent to them from outside. Tomorrow morning I've decided to
    investigate the issue.
    So, we have a message sent from Gmail account that was not delivered in user mailbox. It was received and routed to Exchange by Sendmail host:
    Jun 27 22:06:37 MX01 sendmail[12169]: r5RG6HC8012166: to=<USER_ADDRESS>, delay=00:00:19, xdelay=00:00:19, mailer=smtp, pri=124702, relay=NLB-FQDN [NLB-IP], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (<CAHgK_sjEkj41htuVsutMP3XhgR5RRDs8-EgSC-UfHoaiHWFj=A@mail.gmail.com>
    [InternalId=13069585481819] Queued mail for delivery)
    Running Get-MessageTrackingLog applet on the mailbox servers displayed the followed log entries for the message:
    DB Server #1:
        22:11:18 HAREDIRECT
        22:11:18 RECEIVE
        22:11:18 AGENTINFO
    DB Server #2:
        22:11:18 HARECEIVE
        22:12:44 HADISCARD
    So, we can see that the message was placed into shadow queues, but was NOT delivered into mailbox (no DELIVER status entries). Also pay attention to the timing. Time on all the servers is in sync, but Sendmail timestamp is 22:06, and Exchange timestamps
    are 5 minutes behind it.
    Today a message sent to the same address from the same Google mailbox was received by Exchange and placed into user mailbox with no glitches.
    We use Exchange antispam system activated on Exchange mailbox servers. Spam is never dropped silently. It is either returned to sender (SCL 9) or placed into quarantine mailbox (SCL 6 and above). I'm pretty sure that the lost message was not in the quarantine
    mailbox this morning, and the sender didn't receive any NDRs.
    Any ideas what to investigate next?

    Hi,
    Do you mean the emails are placed in the Shadow Redundancy queue?

  • Sharepoint 2013 Secure Store will not start. Stuck on "starting"

    Since applying the December 2014 CU I have been unable to start my Secure Store Service.  When I try to start the service in Central Admin it just goes to a "starting" state and just stays like that forever.  If I try to access the Service

    Function MatchComputerName($computersList, $computerName)
    If ($computersList -like "*$computerName*") { Return $true; }
    foreach ($v in $computersList) {
    If ($v.Contains("*") -or $v.Contains("#")) {
    # wildcard processing
    foreach ($item in -split $v) {
    $item = $item -replace "#", "[\d]"
    $item = $item -replace "\*", "[\S]*"
    if ($computerName -match $item) {return $true;}
    $secureStoreServiceInstances = Get-SPServiceInstance | ? {$_.GetType().Equals([Microsoft.Office.SecureStoreService.Server.SecureStoreServiceInstance])}
    $secureStoreServiceInstance = $secureStoreServiceInstances | ? {MatchComputerName $_.Server.Address "Server Name"}
    Write-HOst $secureStoreServiceInstance.Status
    $secureStoreServiceInstance.Provision()

  • SCOM 2012 R2 & Exchange Server 2010 SP3 - Mailbox services not monitored

    Having done everything depicted in Exchange Server 2010 MP I still have trouble with some Exchange services - they are in not monitored state (five days passed):
    Mailbox All Database Services - Default-First-Site-Name
    Mailbox Database Service - Management - test.local
    Mailbox Database Service - PublicFolders - test.local
    Mailbox Database Service - Users - test.local
    Mailbox Many Database Service - Default-First-Site-Name
    OfflineAddressBook Service - Default-First-Site-Name
    Why is this happening? Since monitoring exchange mailbox databases is one of the most important tasks SCOM should be doing I assume something wrong is going on here. However there are no errors or alerts in SCOM console nor in OpsMgr
    log on Exchange server itself.

    Hi There,
    Did you install the Microsoft Exchange monitoring correletion service while importing the Exchange 2010 management pack ?
    Does your MS have RMS Emulator role ? As many alerts in the Exchange 2010 MP are targetted to Root management server class.
    Also did you configure Test mailboxex and stuff post Exchange 2010 Import ?
    Did you analyse the Ops manager Event logs in the MS and Agent ? Can you post the critical and Warnign events here.
    Also is Agent proxy enabled ?
    Also is the Action account of the Agents System or Domain account ?

  • Using StandAlone Hyper V Server 2008 R2 - clustering service not start - with error code 2 when you try to start the service

    Dear All,
    Kindly help me for the above.
    I have tried out the following:
    time sync with DC - checked
    Re-install the feature and restart the servers
    check registry key value winreg - local service account read only and added domain admin account
    2 days googling, no luck
    Generate cluster report and error error_mod_not_found (126) reported.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Now that you have a cluster in place and you installed a VM on this but is the VM HA enabled ?
    even on a cluster your VM can still be single server. For creating a HA VM you need shared storage or shared VHDX.  and you will need the broker services with out this there is no-way the VM will failover.
    Check on teched on how to do this or my blog:

  • Unable to initialize the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service because the clocks on the client and on the server machine are skewed

    Each time I restart this exchange server, the Information Store and System Attendant don't start. If It try to manually start the services, I get the follow errors:
    Event ID 5003:
    Unable to initialize the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service because the clocks on the client and on the server machine are skewed. This may be caused by a time change either in the client or the server machine, and may require a reboot of that machine. Other than that, verify that your domain is properly configured and is currently online.
    Event ID 1005:
    Unexpected error The clocks on the client and server machines are skewed. ID no: 80090324 Microsoft Exchange System Attendant  occurred.
    The clocks on the domain controllers and the exchange server are set to the same time zones. As well, all three clocks are in sync down to the second. Any ideas on what's causing this and how to fix it?

    Run this Command from the Exchange Server
    Net time \\ADServerName /Set
    and confirm the action,
    and then you need to restart the service
    Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology Service
    and confirm you are not getting the Error 4001 in the event Viewer.
    Thank you, it resolved my issue after being sweating looking for solution.
    How can I prevent this from happening? I cannot restart services on each server reboot nor lose 5 years of my life!!!

  • Exchange Server 2013 installer will not start or complete

    Hello,
    I am trying to MS Exchange Server onto a Windows Server 2012R2 with Active Directory network. I had started an installation process and it shot out a list of pre-requisites that server need before it can attempt to install. I fulfilled every pre-requisite.
    Rebooted the server. Now whenever I attempt another installation process again. It starts, gathers information, and quits with event log:
    Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Microsoft Exchange Server. Product Version: 15.0.516.32. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 0.
    MS Exchange Server is not listed in Programs and Features to even remove, is it a faulty Microsoft Installer? I have already rebooted numerous times to no avail.
    EDIT: Here's a copy of the MSI log, I couldn't find anything to indicate what's going wrong myself, http://pastebin.com/LwCAimuF

    Hi,
    I've downloaded (as per instructions above):
    Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41994
    Again, the installer repeats the same behavior as before, right now I am running a repair tool on .Net repair tool.
    New log http://pastebin.com/SDynMaDe
    Edit: Looks like there's long list of issues trying to fulfill Exchange Pre Requisite.
    Windows Management Framework 4.0

    "The certificate for the signer of the message is invalid or not found"
    It would probably be best to re-install Windows Server again

  • "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window. The information store could not be opened." [Office 2013/Office 365]

    So here is the error in Outook 2013
    "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window.
    The information store could not be opened."
    Very Very frustrating having spent three hours today reading forums, installing, reinstalling etc.
    HELP?
    1) I have completely un-installed and reinstalled Outlook 2013 (And also all of Office 2013)
    2) Have blown away all profiles and created new ones.
    3) Have blown away all Outook data files and starting from scratch
    4) Have run /resetnavpane............in an attempt to rebuild the navigation pane
    5) Have gone into Registry and deleted all remnants of previous Outlook installs, HKey_Local, System Current
    config......Office etc.
    6) I have spent hours reading online fixes/technet forums etc..............to no avail.
    Please give more suggestions.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Basically you have tried a lot but the issue still exists, now one more suggestion I can provide is to make sure Outlook is not configured to run in Compatibility Mode:
    Take Windows 7 for example, in Start -> Type "Outlook" in the search box -> Right click on the "Outlook 2013" shortcut -> Click Properties -> Under Compatibility tab -> Make sure "Run this program in compatibility
    mode for" is clear.
    This method has resolved the issue for some users in this thread below:
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-office_install/cannot-start-microsoft-office-outlook-error-cannot/e75265b4-044f-4d92-a078-1acbf9ae34d6
    I hope the information is helpful.

    It's recommended to download and install
    Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office
    programs.
