Exchange Server 2013 restarts frequently after Cumulative Update 3 is installed
Hi All,
In our Environment Exchange Server 2013 CU3 is installed and restarts every alternate days.Below are the details
Event Id : 6008
The previous system shutdown at 03:13:44 on 12-06-2014 was unexpected.
Evend Id : 1001
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000ef (0xfffffa800e9a8080, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 061214-30108-01.
Event 41, Kernal Power
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
Can somebody help me through this because it was causing severe to our organization and restarts frequently as well.

Hi,
We have Exchange server 2013 restarting issue.(15.0.847.32)
Found The bugcheck was: 0x000000ef (0xffffe00000ee8080, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000) Event in the logs.
We have performed below steps but still same issue.
1. We have removed
Global Override for
ServiceHealthMSExchangeReplForceReboot responder (Reason for this as its not getting disabled)
2. Created Local Override and set the value to "0" (Disabled)
Server still restarting.Hi,
I have followed above already the problem remain same.
I have disabled Microsoft Exchange Health
Manager Service to monitor till now issue not reported.
Is this best practice to disable the service in these kinds of issues or is there any other way?
Its a workaround that many have used yes.
However, having said that, its not something you want to leave in place.
I would suggest upgrading to at least CU6 or CU7 and if that does not resolve the issue, opening a support case with Microsoft.

Thank you all
Neil PatricHi,
To understand more about the issue, I’d like to confirm the detail error when the installation failed.
As far as I know, deployment of an Exchange Server 2013 server goes through three main stages.
1. Preparing Active Directory (if you are installing Exchange Server 2013 for the first time)
2. Installing the Exchange Server 2013 pre-requisites on the server
3. Running Exchange Server 2013 setup

What am I trying to do?
I have tried installing Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 7 Setup on a fresh install of Windows Server 2012 R2 but it gets stuck when running the setup exe on Step 8 of 14 “Mailbox Transport Service” I have included full
error logs at the bottom of the page but the basics are in order it will throw which loop around are:
[01/20/2015 17:13:20.0084] [2] Beginning processing Set-SharedConfigDC
[01/20/2015 17:13:20.0178] [2] The call to Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service on server 'TopologyClientTcpEndpoint (localhost)' returned an error. Error details No Minimal Required Number of Suitable Directory Servers

Exchange is currently running in the envirmonet on 2010 Sp3 I am installing 2013 CU7 fresh so I can migrate the databases over.
What am I running?
2 X DC on domain and forest functional level 2008R2 both writable
1 X fresh install of Windows 2012 R2 which is domain joined
What have I tried?
Checked Ipv6 is enabled on all DC NICS and Existing Exchange Servers
Rebooted every server
Run setup as Administrator
My account is part of the domain Enterprise Admin group
Tried adding "Exchange Server" or "Exchange Enterprise Servers" to the group policy and doing the relevant gpupdate /force and reboot :
Computer Configuration Windows Settings
Security Settings + Local Policies
User Rights Assignment Mange auditing and security log
Turned off firewall on DC and Exchange Server even stopped the service
Turned off all AV on the DC and Exchange Server
Checked I could telnet to global catalog servers on port 3268 which I can
Checked the global catalog records existed in DNS which they all do
Done the obvious ping tests all round which confirms connectivity
Schema has been prepared using appropriate commands before running the setup exe
setup.exe /PrepareSchema /IacceptExchangeServerLicenseTerms
Making sure the following path has full permissions:
EXCHANGE14:\Current\Release\Shared\Datacenter\Setup
Restarted Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology service
DcDiag all looks good
What have I noticed that is suspicious?
Microsoft Exchange Transport service will not start even though both of its dependences services have started:
Microsoft Filtering Management Service
Microsoft Exchange Active Directory Topology Service
It will eventually error with
“Windows could not start the Microsoft Exchange Transport Service on local computer
Error 1053: This Service did not respond to the start of control request in a timely fashion”
This error is from the GUI wizard itself:

So, I have decompressed my brand new download of Exchange 2013 SP1. This was downloaded from the link at the bottom of the post.
So to start my upgrade I have tried to start by running the schema preparation which then advises me that I am welcomed to:
'Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Cumulative Update 3 Unattended Setup'
Is this poor QA or was the incorrect file uploaded?
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41994Hello,
Powershell need full path to file you want to run.
So you should run .\setup.exe instead of just setup.exe.
Hope this help.

Cumulative Update 5 for Exchange Server 2013 (KB2936880)
Hi,
i have installed exchange server 2013 on separate servers, I deployed the Mailbox role on the first server, and the CAS role on the second server.
I checked the edition using the exchange management shell on the mailbox server and on the CAS server:
>>>
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-ExchangeServer | fl name,edition,admindisplayversion
Name : EXMBX
Edition : Standard
AdminDisplayVersion : Version 15.0 (Build 516.32)
Name : EXCAS
Edition : Standard
AdminDisplayVersion : Version 15.0 (Build 516.32)
<<<
My question is, is it possible to update this current edition to the "Cumulative update 5 for Exchange Server 2013 (KB293688) ?
if it is, in my case, on which servers should i install this update ? on the Mailbox server ? or on the CAS server ?
i appreciate you fast response,
Thanks.Hello,
It doesn't matter which build you choose: you should first update the mailbox role and then CAS. The best option is to have same version of all your Exchange servers (e.g. CU5).
It is not necessary to install Exchange binaries on DC.
Hope it helps,
Adam

Exchange Server 2013 Update from to CU3 to CU8 stuck, Exchange completely down
Hello,
We tried to update a Exchange 2013 server to CU8 because we needed support from Microsoft (certificate revoked, so OWA not working anymore) and they could only help us after updating to CU8 first. The problem is that the update got stuck and now Exchange
is not working at all anymore. Since it is a production enviroment and there is mail in all outboxes we do not want to turn back to a snapshot but solve the problem and continue the update. Any help is welcome because all mail is down now :-(
The error we received at the Exchange Server is:

Folders Exist After Installing Exchange Server 2013
Hi,
We installed Exchange Server 2013 SP1 a while ago and noticed two directories were created:
D:\MonitoringDiagnosticLogs\MSExchangeHMHost (Contains a file called MSExchangeHMHost20141231-1)
and
D:\TransportRoles\Logs\SyncHealth\Hub
I also noticed the second folder is addressed in Cumulative Update 5.
I have the following questions:
1. Does applying CU5 remove the second directory? If not, is it safe for me to delete this directory?
2. What about the first directory? How do I get rid of that? Is it safe for me to delete it?
3. If I cannot get rid of the two directories is it safe for me to create a new partition, move the directories to it, and mark it as D:\ so the path remains the same?
Thanks for the help!Hi,
Based on my research, the two additional directories are created on this D:\ drive during installation of Exchange 2013 automatically:
D:\MonitoringDiagnosticLogs\MSExchangeHMHost
D:\TransportRoles\Logs\SyncHealth

Exchange Server 2013: no send/receive after failed CU1- CU2 and machine restore
Hi!
For several reasons, I decided to fully restore my Exchange Server 2013 machine today.
The machine is virtualized on Hyper-V.
I rebooted the server and recovered from backup and Exchange seems to be working fine. However, I cannot receive or send mail. If I try to send a message it goes to the "drafts" folder. OWA and EMC is working. I can not send mail between interna mailboxes
either. Outlook says disconnected.
When running the Exhchange Connectivity Analyzer, I get the following:
- Receive: Connection was successful but no banner was received.
- Send: Successfull. However when trying to send mail to external mailbox it does not reach that mailbox.
Mailflow was working perfectly at the time of the backup.
Help is much appreciated!
UPDATE 1: When telnet on local server i get SMTP banner. But not on other computers in same subnet.OK. After fiddeling around in ADSIedit and trying to rebuild my Exchange environment I ended ut breaking it completely.
I then restored both my DC (Exchange schema CU2) and my EX (Exchange schema CU1). Scema Versions where the inconsistent as stated.
Then I uninstalled the KB2874216 successfully. After that i tried to Upgrade Exchange to CU2. The Upgrade failed at Mailbox Role: Mailbox Service With error Message:

Seems the problem was corrupted arbitrary system mailboxes from previous Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 migration.
The solution for me was to restore the corrupted arbitrary mailboxes using this
LINK. It is for 2010 but Works on 2013.
I am now currently on Exchange CU2 on both my EX server and on my DC. Now I have to check mail flow and will report back. -
Exchange Server 2013 Database not showing in ECP after removal of Exchange Server 2010
I recently complete the migration of my Exchange 2010 server to Exchange 2013. I then proceeded to uninstall the 2010 server using setup.com /m:uninstall. At the end of the process I received an error that it did not complete the uninstall.
I checked the server and Exchanged 2010 was removed. When I checked ECP on 2013 it still showed the old 2010 server listed. I used ADSI edit and manually removed the old sever.
Now when I log into 2013 ECP I only see the one serve but when I go into databases, none are listed. I check under the server itself and it shows the database that it is using but it is not listed under the database tab.
If I do a search under the database tab I can find it and adds it to the list. I can then open and view details.
My issue is, after I log out and then back in, I have to run the search to find the database again. In ideas on how to have it show up in the list like it did before I removed the 2010 Exchange server?
Thank you,Hi,
From your description, I recommend you verify the following things for troubleshooting:
1. Please make sure that AD replication is completely by checking the user object's homeMDB attribute. This value should contain the DN value of the Exchange Server 2013 mailbox database.
2. Wait 30 minutes for the cache on the Exchange Server 2013 Client Access Server to clear or restart the MSExchangeOWAAppPool on the Exchange Server 2013 Client Access Server.
For more information, here is a kb for your reference.

Mails struck in Drafts folder after Transport Agent installed in Exchange Server 2013
Hi all,
I created Transport Agent and installed successfully in exchange server 2013.
After that mails are struck in drafts folder.
I thought because of My Custom transport Agent , then i Uninstall Transport agent.
but still no use.
I restart Microsoft Exchange Transport Service and restart my server also.
Here is the code i used
public sealed class MyAgentFactory : RoutingAgentFactory
public override RoutingAgent CreateAgent(SmtpServer server)
return new MyAgent();
public class MyAgent : RoutingAgent
public MyAgent()
this.OnSubmittedMessage += new SubmittedMessageEventHandler(this.MySubmittedMessageHandler);
public void MySubmittedMessageHandler(SubmittedMessageEventSource source, QueuedMessageEventArgs e)
e.MailItem.Message.Subject = "This message passed through my agent: " + e.MailItem.Message.Subject;
I search in google about mails struck in drafts folder, all replies are
restore Default Receive Connectors. How can i restore it.

Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update 5 Install Issue
I have tried installing Exchange 2013 Cumulative Update 5 on our server but it is failing at the Mailbox role: Transport Service section with the following error. I am running the command prompt as Administrator. Any help would be great.
Error: The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); Set-LocalPermissions
" was run: "System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation. at Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.Task.ThrowError(Exception exception, ErrorCategory errorCategory, Object target, String helpUrl) at Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.Task.WriteError(Exception
exception, ErrorCategory category, Object target) at Microsoft.Exchange.Management.Deployment.SetLocalPermissions.InternalProcessRecord() at Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.Task.b__b() at Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.Task.InvokeRetryableFunc(String
funcName, Action func, Boolean terminatePipelineIfFailed)".Hi Tim,
From the Exchange setup log description, there is only one error, "Attempted to perform an unauthorized operation.". The error indicates that it is a permission problem. I would like to verify if you add the account to the local admin group. If no, please
add the account to the admin group and continue to install the CU5.
If the issue persists, I recommend you download a new CU5 for Exchange 2013 and reinstall it to check the result.

I update my exchange server 2013 cu6 with exchange 2007 and my exchange 2013 db shutdown every 25 minute and recover. You have any hotfix I can use for this solution.
Hi,
From your description, you have deployed Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 in a co-existence environment. After you upgrade to CU6, databases unexpectedly shut down. In your case, here is a kb for your reference.

Exchange Server 2013 POP3 Service on CAS cannot after Upgrade to SP1
Exchange Server 2013 POP3 Service on CAS cannot after Upgrade to SP1
When I manual start MSExchangepop3 Service on CAS It show "The Microsoft Exchange POP3 Service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."
In event log show POP3 EventID 1018 , 1019 , 1036
It said like this blinding already use (0.0.0.0)
The point is "IF I SET BINDING FOR 995 , MSEXCHANGE POP3 Service will automatic stop"
Does anyone face this issue please?
Thank youYou could check what (if anything) else is running on that port.
From a command prompt, type netstat -ano | find 995
This will give you the Process Identifier (PID) for the process that is running on port 995. Then you can open Task Manager, add PID as an additional column, and find out what that process is.
Hope that helps.
