Exchange server 2013 supported mailbox databases and public folder databases
I want to know about Exchange server 2013 SP1 Standard and Enterprise version support how many Mailbox databases and Public folder Databases? Total Mailbox and Public folder databases supported information.
I Know as below but not clear:
1) Exchange server 2013 SP1 Sandard edition support 5 Databases, It's include Public folder databases, total=5 or 5 mailbox databases+5 public folder databases=10 databases
2) Exchange server 2013 SP1 Enterprise edition support 100 Databases, It's include Public folder databases, total=100 or 100 mailbox databases+100 public folder databases=200 databases
kindly let me know. Thanks.

Move Mailbox database and Public Folder database from VMwar RDM drive to VMware VMFS/VMDK Drive
Good Afternoon,
So I have 1 DAG with 3 mailbox server (1 physical and 2 Virtual (vmware)). The Vmware server Mailbox and Public folder databases/logs are currently on RDM drive. I need to get rid of the RDM drives and use VMFS/Vmdk drives for mailbox and public
folder databases. I was thinking 3 options:
1- Introduce new VM Members into DAG and simply give these new VMs VMFS/VMDK drives, add servers into DAG and have DAG replicate databases to new server. I really don't want to do this.
2-On current VM, delete RDM drive along with database, add VMFS/VMDK drive replacement and have the DAG copy database.
3- On current VM, suspend replication, copy database/logs in temp location, delete the RDM drive, create the VMFS/VMDK drive, copy the database and logs to new drive, enable replication. Do the same for public folder database/logs, but not sure how
to stop/start replications, since its not in DAG?
I'm looking for solution that will take least amount of time. Option 3 seems best solution, but not sure if there any gotchas.. What are you thought??
Thanks in advance for you helpTake the database offline means stop replications to the the passive mailbox server?
Also, what is procedure to take public folder offline. We have public folder replicated on all 3 servers.
Hi cuttabutta,
Yes, take the database offline on the passive server can stop replication from primary server.
you can also take the public folder database offline to stop replication.
In addition, you can refer to the following article to configure public folder replication:

Resources and public folder database - migration from 2007 to 2013
We migrated our resource mailboxes thru the move mailboxes in 2013 EAC but now we're at the point of decommissioning our 2007 servers. Before the actual decommission we stopped all 2007 services and dismounted all 2007 databases. Once we did
this the resources would no longer work - errors pertaining to cannot directly book the resource.
I had to bring up the public folder database for the moved resources to work again. We do not use public folders any longer so we did not do any type of public folder migration. Do I need to do this for the resources to work?Hi,
Could you please tell me your Outlook version?
I saw someone got the following error when he tried to book resource after migrating from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010, if Outlook version is Outlook 2007. But Outlook 2010 worked well.
"Cannot directly book a resource for this meeting."
Please switch between online and cached mode to check the result. And please check if this issue occurs in OWA.
If possible, please use Outlook 2010 to check the result.
Best regards,

Same for public folder database(s).There you GO...
Get-MailboxDatabase –Status | format-table Name,Server,LogFolderPath,EdbFilePath,DatabaseSize
Get-PublicFolderDatabase –Status | format-table Name,Server,LogFolderPath,EdbFilePath,DatabaseSize

Exchange Server 2013: Deploying High Availability and Site Resilience

Is it possible? any idea?
in addition, all clients is connected to their email to their own site. dose it has any affected to Outlook users?

[email protected]Hi MAS,
Currently, I have only mailbox server and only database for each site.
+ Site1: I has DB1 and all users in site1 will access to their own site. (MBX1) subnet 192.168.1.0/24
+ Site2: I has DB2 and all users in site2 will access to their own site. (MBX2) subnet 192.168.2.0/24
But the email for incoming and outgoing with external will go to Site1.
In Planning,
I want to implement DAG to provide HA on database level below:
Is it possible to do that? dose it has any affected to current Outlook users?

Exchange Server 2013 - Shared mailbox audit
Is shared mailbox auditing possible in exchange 2013? I want to see which users deleted/moved.. specific mails. I turned on mailbox auditing but when I want to access the data I receive:
There is no audit log of the mailbox associated with this user. The log is removed.Hi Nick,
The
Mailbox audit logging is available in Exchange 2013. By using mailbox audit logging, you can log mailbox access by mailbox owners, delegates (including administrators with full access permissions to mailboxes), and administrators.
Please run the following command to check the Audit logging settings for the problematic user:
Get-Mailbox -Identity Shared1 | FL Identity,*Audit*
We can run the following command to enable and set Audit Logging for a mailbox:
Set-Mailbox -Identity Shared1 -AuditEnabled $True -AuditDelegate Update,Move,MoveToDeletedItems,SoftDelete,HardDelete,FolderBind,SendAs,SendOnBehalf,Create -AuditOwner Update,Move,MoveToDeletedItems,SoftDelete,HardDelete
Then we can do some operation in Shared mailbox, and use the
Search-MailboxAuditLog cmdlet to synchronously search mailbox audit log entries for a single mailbox. Additionally, we can use the
Auditing tab in the EAC to run a non-owner mailbox access report or export entries from the mailbox audit log.

Exchange Server 2013 failover design
Hello:
I'm designing a failover Exchange Server 2013 solution. I only need mail and calendar services.
I'm planning to put two physical servers with Windows Server 2012 R2 with (or without) Hyper-V to run one virtual machine in
each physical server.
I don’t have external storage device, I like to use database replication
Also, I have a physical third party anti-spam firewall
The questions:
I need one VM for Mailboxes and a separate one for CAS (4 VMs in total) or I can install 2 VMs with MBX+CAS in each VM server?
I need a third server to avoid brain duplication, or isn’t needed?
Exchange Server 2013 supports POP3 connections?
Thanks for your time, and sorry for my bad English!
Un saludo! Juan SeguraThe questions:
I need one VM for Mailboxes and a separate one for CAS (4 VMs in total) or I can install 2 VMs with MBX+CAS in each VM server? - Definitely you can go for multi-role servers
to combine MBX+CAS and in fact that's
recommended except couple scenarios.
I need a third server to avoid brain duplication, or isn’t needed? You need a witness server but that can be non-Exchange server too. You need to add Exchange trusted subsystem
in Local Admin group of that server
Exchange Server 2013 supports POP3 connections? - Yes, you can have POP3 connections

Backing up Exchange Server 2013 CU3 with Windows Server Backup Program
Looking at configuring Windows Server Backup Program to backup Exchange Server 2013 CU3 which is a member a DAG Group using a specific Backup Domain Account.
From my understanding from the following technet Article" Using Windows Server Backup to Backup and Restore Exchange Data" at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876851(v=exchg.150).aspx I cannot use wbadmin.exe has it uses an older
unsupported version of Powershell.
My question is what are the minimum AD rights required for an AD account needed to be able to backup/restore Exchange Datastore using Windows Server Backup Program in Windows Server 2012?
Thanks,
NIckHi Sathish,
After looking at your response, it all make sense except when I look at what exchange right assigned via RBAC. I understand that the backup service account will require access to the exchange databases
to be able to backing and restoring them. After looking at the different roles
I'm wondering if I require to assign both the Databases roles for Backing up the databases and the Disaster Recovery Role as well to be able to restore the databases has well as having a mailbox on the exchange
server for the backup service account?
Below is explanation of the roles via the ECP
Database Role
This role enables administrators to create, manage, mount and dismount mailbox and public folder databases on individual servers.
Disaster Recovery
This role enables administrators to restore mailboxes and database availability groups in an organization.
Thanks,

Exchange 2007 error relating to Public Folder Database
Hi
We migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 recently as we already had the licence so decided to take advantage of it.
We unfortunately forgot to migrate the Public Folders as we mistakenly thought as we didn't use them they were no longer needed in Exchange 2007.
We are now receiving
"Event ID 8207, MSExchangeFBPublish
Error updating public folder with free/busy information on virtual machine BARR-EXCH-001. The error number is 0x80004005."
On the server, I have tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945602 and the command
doesnt show an error but
Get-PublicFolder -Identity "\NON_IPM_SUBTREE\SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY" -Recurse | fl name,Replicas
Still shows no entry for the NON_IPM_SUBTREE\SCHEDULE+ FREE BUSY. I have been advised to create a new PF store on the server as the one currently is probably empty or corrupted.
To do this would I follow this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-GB/library/bb123687(v=exchg.80).aspx
Or
Dismount the public folder database on the Exchange 2007 serverGo to the folder path of the EDB filedelete\move the EDB fileGo back to the management console and mount the
public folder database. You will get a warning that one or more database files is missing. Go ahead and clickOK to mount a blank database file.?
Any help/advice appreciated.
Cheers
Cheers ChrisHi,
If the existing file is corrupt, I recommend you recreate a new public folder database in Exchange 2007.
To create a new public folder database, you can refer to the following article.

Best practice on mailbox database size & we need how many server for deployment exchange server 2013
Dear all,
We have an server that runs Microsoft exchange server 2007 with the following specification:
4 servers: Hub&CAS1 & Hub&CAS2 & Mailbox1 & Mailbox2
Operating System : Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64
6 mailbox databases
1500 Mailboxes
We need to upgrade our exchange server from 2007 to 2013 to fulfill the following requirment:
I want to upgrade the exchange server 2007 to exchange server 2013 and implement the following details:
1500 mailboxes
10GB or 15GB mailbox quota for each user
How many
servers and databases are
required for this migration<ins cite="mailto:Mohammad%20Ashouri" datetime="2014-05-18T22:41"></ins>?
Number of the servers:
Number of the databases:
Size of each database:
Many thanks. You will also need to check server role requirement in exchange 2013. Please go through this link to calculate the server role requirement : http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2013/05/14/released-exchange-2013-server-role-requirements-calculator.aspx
2TB is recommended maximum database size for Exchange 2013 databases.
Here is the complete checklist to upgrade from exchange 2007 to 2013 : http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff805032%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx
Meanwhile, to reduce the risks and time consumed during the completion of migration process, you can have a look at this proficient application(http://www.exchangemigrationtool.com/) that would also be
a good approach for 1500 users. It will help you to ensure the data security during the migration between exchange 2007 and 2013. -
Public Folder in exchange server 2013
We are using an legacy application developed in Classic ASP. In this application we are rendering the message items in the public folder on the exchange server 2003.
Now we are going to migrate our exchange server 2003 to exchange server 2013.
Do exchange server 2013 have public folder? Is this migration have impact on the public folders usage.
Please let me know for any clarifications. There will be no co-existence support for Exchange Server 2003. In your scenario, you will have to migrate twice, once from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 or 2010, then again to Exchange 2013 or another option you have to proceed that by using any third-party
migration tool to accomplish this task in one go. When you preparing to migrate mailbox, you can have a look at
exchange server deployment assistant to see the current recommended steps for your configuration. A good resource for swing migration direct from exchange 2003 to 2013 can be explored at
here.
In the same way, You cannot migrate public folders directly from Exchange 2003. You will have to move all public folder databases and replicas to Exchange 2007 SP3 RU10 or later. No public folder replicas can remain on Exchange 2003.
I would like to refer on couple of links mentioned below. It will help you better to clarify the scenario further :

Exchange Server 2013: incoming messages are not delivered into user mailboxes occasionally
Exchange Server 2013 CU1, two mailbox servers (DAG, only one mail database), two CAS servers (NLB cluster). Two Sendmail/CentOS-based SMTP relays route mail between Exchange servers and Internet (incoming mail is routed to NLB cluster name).
Usually mail flow is OK: messages are sent and received normally. However, I've got several complains from different users. They state that occasionally they don't receive messages that were sent to them from outside. Tomorrow morning I've decided to
investigate the issue.
So, we have a message sent from Gmail account that was not delivered in user mailbox. It was received and routed to Exchange by Sendmail host:
Jun 27 22:06:37 MX01 sendmail[12169]: r5RG6HC8012166: to=<USER_ADDRESS>, delay=00:00:19, xdelay=00:00:19, mailer=smtp, pri=124702, relay=NLB-FQDN [NLB-IP], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (<CAHgK_sjEkj41htuVsutMP3XhgR5RRDs8-EgSC-UfHoaiHWFj=A@mail.gmail.com>
[InternalId=13069585481819] Queued mail for delivery)
Running Get-MessageTrackingLog applet on the mailbox servers displayed the followed log entries for the message:
DB Server #1:
22:11:18 HAREDIRECT
22:11:18 RECEIVE
22:11:18 AGENTINFO
DB Server #2:
22:11:18 HARECEIVE
22:12:44 HADISCARD
So, we can see that the message was placed into shadow queues, but was NOT delivered into mailbox (no DELIVER status entries). Also pay attention to the timing. Time on all the servers is in sync, but Sendmail timestamp is 22:06, and Exchange timestamps
are 5 minutes behind it.
Today a message sent to the same address from the same Google mailbox was received by Exchange and placed into user mailbox with no glitches.
We use Exchange antispam system activated on Exchange mailbox servers. Spam is never dropped silently. It is either returned to sender (SCL 9) or placed into quarantine mailbox (SCL 6 and above). I'm pretty sure that the lost message was not in the quarantine
mailbox this morning, and the sender didn't receive any NDRs.
Any ideas what to investigate next?Hi,
Do you mean the emails are placed in the Shadow Redundancy queue?

Exchange Server 2013 Database not showing in ECP after removal of Exchange Server 2010
I recently complete the migration of my Exchange 2010 server to Exchange 2013. I then proceeded to uninstall the 2010 server using setup.com /m:uninstall. At the end of the process I received an error that it did not complete the uninstall.
I checked the server and Exchanged 2010 was removed. When I checked ECP on 2013 it still showed the old 2010 server listed. I used ADSI edit and manually removed the old sever.
Now when I log into 2013 ECP I only see the one serve but when I go into databases, none are listed. I check under the server itself and it shows the database that it is using but it is not listed under the database tab.
If I do a search under the database tab I can find it and adds it to the list. I can then open and view details.
My issue is, after I log out and then back in, I have to run the search to find the database again. In ideas on how to have it show up in the list like it did before I removed the 2010 Exchange server?
Thank you,Hi,
From your description, I recommend you verify the following things for troubleshooting:
1. Please make sure that AD replication is completely by checking the user object's homeMDB attribute. This value should contain the DN value of the Exchange Server 2013 mailbox database.
2. Wait 30 minutes for the cache on the Exchange Server 2013 Client Access Server to clear or restart the MSExchangeOWAAppPool on the Exchange Server 2013 Client Access Server.
For more information, here is a kb for your reference.

Exchange Server 2013: Database Increasing double
Dear All,
I just migration from MS exchange server 2003 to MS Exchange Server 2013. I have problem with database size are increase double.
the old database size only 400GB in MS Exchange server 2003.
After migration to MS Exchange server 2013, the size are increase to 800GB of .edb.
Any idea?
[email protected]Hi,
From the description, you said you migrated from Exchange 2003 server to Exchange 2013.
Do you install Exchange 2013 in the same organization with Exchange 2003?
If it's the same organization, you need to migrate from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007/2010, then remove Exchange 2003, after that, migrate to Exchange 2013.
When you move a mailbox from a previous version of Exchange to Exchange 2013, the mailbox size reported may increase 30 percent to 40 percent. Disk space used by the mailbox database has not increased, only the attribution of space used by each mailbox has
increased.
For this issue, I recommend you use the following command to check the database size and the white space.
Get-MailboxDatabase -status | fl name, databasesize, availablenewmailboxspace
