Exchange Server IIS Virtual Directories

Hi Guys,
I need to remove all the directories from Exchange CAS Server except the directories are required for ActiveSync. can someone give me the direction about the directories are not required for ActiveSync.
Thanks in Advance.

Regards Rishi Aggarwal

my client made a decision about removing external OWA but ActiveSync. so looking what are the Exact directories are required for ActiveSync so except that i can remove every directory.
Hi,
OWA works only internally,
ActiveSync works both internally and externally, right?
I would suggest to create a new website with a unique IP in IIS and only adding ActiveSync to that website using a cmdlet. That would give us a website hosted on the box that served the ActiveSync devices but nothing else, leaving the OWA open for internal
access. The firewall would point to this website/IP on the CAS. We could also create a virtual directory under there for /OWA and /Exchange which would serve up the generic “this service is no longer available, please contact the help desk” message as the
default webpage. This makes it easy to manage, monitor, and control traffic to.
Command to create a new Active Virtual directory:
New-ActiveSyncVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName "domain.com"
Best Regards.

  • Sccm 2012 DP failed to create iis virtual directories

    I am trying to install a branch server as Sccm 2012 DP.
    I already installed around 15 branch servers without any problems.
    The problem I have is that the branch server failed to create iis virtual directories.
    In my console under Monitoring, component status It writes that Distribution Manager successfully installed iis component of operating system to distribution point ""
    Next it writes error to send packages to that branch server.
    The site server distmgr.log shows the error below:
    Failed to start primary service wdsserver
    Microsoft Sql Server Native Client 11.0 login failed for user "xxx"
    Failed to connect to the sql server connection type : SMS ACCESS
    for Display = \\myserver\mswnet: sms_site= XXX  failed to get master SCF.
     Currently site xxx is initializing site control data. Cant get Master SCF from database at this time. will try later.
    DPConnection;;;; ConnectWMI() failed to connect to branch server.
    I try to remove the dp role, leave it for 12 hours reboot the server and assign the role again but same problem.
    Any idea ?

  • Windows IIS virtual directories

    I'm setting up CPS and Contribute 3 on a large site. Users in
    different departments have access to specific folders that contain
    their pages. What I can't seem to be able to do is to add virtual
    directories to the users' list of folders to edit (though I really
    just want them to be able to link to files in those virtual
    directories). The virtual directories contain document libraries
    (agendas, minutes, reports, media releases) that are maintained by
    another system, so it seemed like a good idea to keep those folders
    out of the root folder of the site that the CPS manages. But those
    virtual directories don't show up in the list of folders to allow
    users to edit. Has anyone run into this problem and found a way
    around it? I could just drop the virtual directory idea if that's
    the only way.

    Hi,
    If NDES is the only CA role service on this server, this problem is expected. Because NDES requires the installation of the Certification Authority Web Enrollment role service on the same Server.
    The Certificate Authority Web Enrollment pages are needed since the NDES IIS application is a virtual directory underneath the Web Enrollment pages (CertSrv).
    Hope this helps.

  • TWO IIS virtual directories for TWO WebLogic Instances

    I have an IIS website with one IIS virtual directory which is using iisproxy.dll
    to redirect the request to a weblogic instance.
    Now, I would like to create another virtual directory which has to redirect to
    another weblogic instance (with different port). How can I do that? I have tried
    to create another copy of iisproxy.dll & iisproxy.ini but that new website still
    forward the request to the old website. Please advice.
    Many thanks.
    Ronald

    Hi Ronald
    This is not possible with existing weblogic releases.
    However There are couple of workarounds for this.
    1. Setup two IIS Sites forwarding requests to two weblogic servers.
    Make sure The IIS sites are running with Application Protection of
    High(Isolated).
    Make sure the iisproxy.ini and iisproxy.dll for theses different sites
    are in different
    diectories and configure the sites and iisproxy.ini files appropriately.
    - This, i tries and works great.
    2. Let All the requests go to one weblogic server. Register a servlet
    with you'r second virtual directory name as a proxy servlet proxying to
    the second
    weblogic server.
    - This might work. But you have to remeber the performance impact of
    proxying twice.
    Hope this helps

  • WLS5.1 HTTP server and virtual directories

    Hi
    Could someone please tell me if you can configure a virtual directory in WLS5.1's
    HTTP server.
    We wish to configure a directory that is unrelated to the document root.
    Many thanks
    Tim

    You can write your own Servlet that serves up pages from wherever you like.
    There is now 'configurable' way to do this in WLS 5.1

  • Exchange BPA Errors (Exchange server is a virtual machine but the additional tools are not installed and The 'Services' string type value located in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v14\Setup\Services' registry key is missing)

    Hi,
    I am running BPA on My Exchange 2010 VM (Server 2008 R2 VM on Hyper-V) and get the following errors:
    The 'Services' string type value located in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v14\Setup\Services' registry key is missing or inaccessible. The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service won't start. As a result, all services that depend
    on this service won't be able to start
    Exchange server [Exchange Server FQDN] is a virtual machine but the additional tools are not installed. This configuration is not supported. Install Virtual Machine Additions for this guest.
    Problem is that, for the first, that Key exists and the service is actually running fine. And for the second my VM tools are already installed.
    Hopefully someone out there has had the same issue and can assist.
    Pete

    Hi Pete,
    For the first error message, please try the following steps:
    Make sure the Information Store service is in Starting status,
    Automatic startup type and works well, as a test we can try to
    restart the Infroamtion Store service and verify the service works well.
    Start
    Registry Editor, find the registry key “Services” under “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v14\Setup”, its value is “C:\Program
    files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\v14”(default install location), please check your registry, make sure the key “Services” exist and value is the Exchange Server install location and the
    location is accessible;
    Start
    Registry Editor, and locate the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Setup
    Use the
    Permission option under the Security tab to check the permission setting on this key. Make sure
    System is in the list with Full Control permissions if the service account is Local System. If you are not using Local System as the service account, check the existence of the corresponding account in the list and ensure that
    it has Full Control permissions. Please refer to this article:
    Title: Exchange Store Does Not Start: Errors 7024, 1026, 9542, and 5000
    Link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/285116
    Start
    ADSI Edit, and then browse to the following location:
    Domain.com/Configuration/Services/Microsoft Exchange/Org/Administrative Groups/AdminGroup/Servers/Server Name
    Right-click the
    server name, and then click Properties.
    Click the
    Security tab, make sure this own server’s server object have
    full control permission on its own server.
    If not or the object is missing, please modify the permission or click
    Add, locate the computer account for the Exchange Server computer, add it to the Permissions list with full control.
    Click OK, and then close ADSI Edit.
    Use
    Active Directory Users and Computers to add the current affected
    Exchange Server computer account to the Exchange Servers(previous version should be “Exchange Domain Servers”) group in the
    Microsoft Exchange Security Groups( or Users) OU. Refer to this article:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297295.
    Restart the Exchange Server computer, then rerun the ExBPA.
    For the second error message, Microsoft don’t recommend to install Exchange Server on virtual machine without additional tools, so the error message occurs. We can just ignore
    this message, it will not affect the Exchange servers.

  • Exchange Server 2013 - Sizing

    Can some please provide me Exchange server 2013 sizing for 180 Mailbox users with mailbox profile size 10 GB With 1 DAG with two mailbox servers.
    Please provide for Exchange Server in Virtual environment.
    I have already created a setup on Environment going through test mode.
    Existing Environment
    2 X CAS servers -  2 Core - 4 GB Memory - 500 GB Hard disk space
    2 X Mailbox Server - 2 Core -  12 GB Memory - 1.5 TB disk space
    Theses servers are build on VMWare hosted on ESX server
    Please provide your feedback for best practice and solution to support 180 Mailbox profile with Mailbox size limit 10 GB
    Thanks in adavance
    Benhur
    benhur007

    Hi Benhur,
    we have over one thousand mailboxes ( inc. room,shared,calendar and so on).We only have 2 servers With Mailbox and CAS role.No need to seperate those roles if you really dont have to.2013 CAs only Proxy/redirect requests and nothing is stored (other that
    daily performance log and iis log).C: drive for Exchange install i recomend 70gb on each server.
    When it comes to mailbox database,are you planning to use Public folders?In 2013 Public folders can be stored on seperate databases.
    Also it is not recomended to have Exchange and mailbox database on same physical disk,so you should seperate those out and expand over time without taking Down the server.
    In easy sample the server can look like this:
    C: Install Exchange  70GB
    D: Database files 1GB ( here you map multiple databases in different folders,so it look like D:\DB01,D:\DB02,D:\DB03 and so on.And each folder is an own 300 gb disk that you Mount into one of these folders at time.Path and name have to be identical on both
    servers when setting up DAG.)
    E: Log files 1GB ( here you map multiple databases in different folders,so it look like E:\LOG01,E:\LOG02,E:\LOG03 and so on.And each folder is its own 70 gb disk that you Mount into one of these folders at time.Path and name have to be identical on
    both servers when setting up DAG.)
    Approx 300GB each database and 70 gb each log(for each database) should be fine.
    10gb database pr user can cause performance issue if they are working online (Citrix or other apps),if cache locally it might take time if they are not inside worknetwork.
    Dont forget that you should also have your own replication network or it will consume bandwidth when you move over multiple users to different databases.
    Hope this helps!

  • Exchange Server 2007 Transport Agent Issue

    This is the first time i am working on Exchange Server Development. Below is a simple Transport Agent that i am using, this agent should simply update the email Subjects
    as shown below in the code.
    using System;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    using System.Text;
    using Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Transport;
    using Microsoft.Exchange.Data.Transport.Smtp;
    namespace MyAgents
    public sealed class MyAgentFactory : SmtpReceiveAgentFactory
    public override SmtpReceiveAgent CreateAgent(SmtpServer server)
    return new MyAgent();
    public class MyAgent : SmtpReceiveAgent
    public MyAgent()
    this.OnEndOfData += new EndOfDataEventHandler(MyEndOfDataHandler);
    private void MyEndOfDataHandler(ReceiveMessageEventSource source, EndOfDataEventArgs e)
    e.MailItem.Message.Subject = "This message passed through my agent: " + e.MailItem.Message.Subject;
    Below is the Powershell script i am using to install the Agent.
    Net Stop MSExchangeTransport
    Install-TransportAgent -Name MyAgent -AssemblyPath EmailLogger.dll -TransportAgentFactory MyAgents.MyAgentFactory
    Enable-TransportAgent -Identity MyAgent
    Net Start MSExchangeTransport
    Agent installed successfully using Exchange Management Shell.
    Now when i send/receive emails in exchange, Email subjects are not modified. Emails have their original subjects. I don't know why?
    I also performed the steps mentioned in below links to debug the Agent but breakpoints are not being hit by Visual Studio Debugger.

    I am using the Exchange Server 2007 Virtual Machine provided by Microsoft from link below
    microsoft.com/en-pk/download/details.aspx?id=14901
    I also installed the Visual Studio 2008 on the VM for debugging.
    Please help me in resolving the issue?

    How are you testing this ? a SmtpReceiveAgent will only fire when the server receives email over SMTP. So if your just logging on and sending an Internal Email (eg mailbox to mailbox) or sending Email externally then the
    SmtpReceiveAgent wont fire. For a single server if you want to capture all email you need to use a router agent see
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/postwoman/archive/2010/09/14/step-by-step-how-to-create-a-routing-agent.aspx
    . If you want to test what you have try sending an email to mailbox over SMTP using an SMTP client or Telnet
    http://exchange.mvps.org/smtp_frames.htm
    Cheers

  • IPhone can connect to Exchange Server with incorrect password!

    I have changed my Active Directory password, but have not entered the new password into the Exchange account settings on my iPhone. Nevertheless, my iPhone can still connect and get mail from Exchange. Thinking that perhaps it was because the iPhone was still working with a connection that had been established before I changed my password, I turned it off and turned it back on again -- and it connected and got new mail!

    Don't blame the phone just yet.
    The server is where the problem is..... The Exchange Server/IIS front end is the gatekeeper to your email. If the password is sent wrong, the server will reject you. Conversely, if your Exchange server is not authenticating at all, it will let anyone in.
    What is probably happening is that your password has not synchronized from AD to Exchange. This is not unheard of, but if it persists you should let your Sys Admin know.
    My guess is that you can log into your OWA (Web mail) with your old password as well.

  • 550 5.7.1 NDR's as mail volume from IIS Virtual SMTP server to Exchange 2010 increases

    We have a virtual win 2008 server that has a Virtual SMTP server running via IIS. A separate application on this server drops emails in the pickup directory to forward to our Exchange 2010 environment and this works fine. The odd issue is that as the volume
    of messages being dropped in the pickup directory increases to over around 500 per minute we see a huge increase of bounced emails ending up in badmail directory on this server. The NDR we receive from our exchange environment states the following
    550 5.7.1 Anonymous clients does not have permissions to send as this sender
    As soon as we throttle this application the issue stops. And the same emails that bounced can be resubmitted with no issues
    This particular virtual SMTP instance sends to only a handful of mailboxes in our organization, but it does send a lot of messages
    We currently have a receive connector for all internal relay servers, and this server is called out in the accepted IP range and the message rate is sent to unlimited. Here are the edited version of the details of one of the internal relay receive connectors
    on one of our hub transport servers. Is there something we have setup on the these connectors that might be causing this?

    Just to clarify, this is not a pickup directory on an Exchange server but on a Windows 2008 server running an SMTP Virtual server in IIS 6.0. The problem happens only when the message volume from this server to Exchange increases to over ~500 messages a
    minute. When that happens the messages get bounced from Exchange with the following info in the NDR
    550 5.7.1 Anonymous clients does not have permissions to send as this sender
    If we resubmit all the bounce messages at a lower volume per minute we do not see the issue. I'm still working on replicating the issue now that we have logging turned up on the receive connectors.
    In addition some messages are being bounced with the following NDR message
    554 5.6.0 Invalid message content
    These messages are always between 65-70KB and have around 200 recipients
    In the Exchange receive logs for the receive connector for these messages we see the following message (with different sizing)
    A parsing error has occurred:MIME content error:
    Singletext value size
    (32781)exceeded allowed maximum
    (32768).
    The messages dropped in this pick-up  directory can be anywhere from 1KB to 10MB, so it's not that it's viewing each batch as a single email but something different with this particular email. I've tried searching for where to increase this MIME value
    but can't find out where it is stored in Exchange.

  • Virtual directories on second exchange server

    On my first Exchange install I changed all the virtual directory's to point to mail.domain.com.  I've added a second exchange server to another site and have round robin dns including the host name in the A record "mail".  Would I also
    change the virtual directories on the second server to mail.domain.com?

    Hi
    You can create a DAG if the servers are on the same OS and same version.
    You can then install your certificate that has the name mail.domain.com and change your urls to match the first server.
    You need to update DNS with a A record if you using Round Robin so that mail.domain.com points to server A but also server B, so in short you will have 2 records with the same name but pointing to different servers.
    Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.
