Exchange Server Installation

Good day Sir/ Mam
Based on installing Exchange Server 2013 on Windows Server 2012. What are the prerequisites if one wants to install it on the member server?

Hi Simtandile,
It depends basically which role you are deploying.
Considerting its the first Exchange Server in your environment, below are the generic requirements.
The computer you want to use to prepare Active Directory for Exchange 2013 has specific prerequisites that must be met.
Install the following software on the computer that will be used to prepare Active Directory:
Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5
The version of Windows Management Framework that corresponds to the version of Exchange 2013 you're installing.
Exchange 2013 CU3
Windows Management Framework 3.0
Exchange 2013 SP1 or later
Windows Management Framework 4.0
Note:
.NET Framework 4.5 and Windows Management Framework 3.0 are included with Windows Server 2012 and don't need to be installed separately.
.NET Framework 4.5 and Windows Management Framework 4.0 are included with Windows Server 2012 R2 and don't need to be installed separately.
NOTE:- WindowsServer2012R2 would require minimum ExchangeServer2013SP1 to work properly.

I would recommend you using the

  • Exchange Server Installation for a DAG environment

I have prepared 6 servers for exchange 2013 installation :
2 for DC and ADC   -- OS windows server 2012 R2
2 for CAS Role       -- OS Windows server 2012
2 for Mailbox Role  -- OS Windows Server 2012
As Windows Server 2012 R2 is not supported for installing Exchange 2013 i decommissioned 4 Servers ( CAS and Mailbox ) and starting from scratch.
Will the above scenario work now ... like having Domain controller OS  in Server 2012 R2  and CAS and Mailbox Server Roles in Server 2012 Version ?
How to install individual Server role for exchange server 2013 ( i mean CAS role on 2 servers and Mailbox on 2 servers). are there any steps to follow on for this ?
Please let me know on this.

Windows 2012 R2 will work for a server OS for your Domain Controllers.  However, the Forest and Domain functional levels need to be Windows 2012 or less.
For your Exchange 2013 servers, there are a lot of unanswered questions here and these forums only give us a certain amount of space and time to explain the entire installation process.   If this is for production and your not sure what to do,
your best bet is to hire a consultant to help you out to make sure you get all the ins and outs.  At the very least you can get assistance in your deployment.  If you don't have budget for this or are creating a test lab, you can always try using
    the Exchange Deployment -
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/jj657516.aspx.  This might give you an idea of how to proceed.
There are a lot of examples of Exchange installs out there as well.  If this is a lab, these are well worth looking through and tinkering with to get to know the product better:

  • Move Exchange Server 2010 SP1 databases and log files to another partition

My company has been running Exchange Server 2010 SP1 on virtual machine for almost three years. My colleague created this virtual machine (Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1) before Exchange Server installation with following partitions:
    C partition - for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 OS (size 40 GB)
E partition - for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 databases and logs (size 410 GB)
Those two partitions are on the same virtual hard disk "next to one another" so I can not extend C partition which gets filled up with IIS logs (when C partition free space is under 10 GB I am backing up these logs with backup software and afterwards
deleting them thus freeing up space on C partition). I have 2 databases (along with Public Folders) and size of these databases and their logs is around 235 GB.
Is it safe to move these databases and their logs to another partition which I would create on separate virtual hard disk for this purpose only and how much time this process might take since during this process databases
would be dismounted and inaccessible to all users? He made big blunder in my opinion but I have to solve this.

Yes, its safe to move the DB/Logs. You can follow the procedure mentioned in this article to do it via EMC or Shell... http://exchangeserverpro.com/move-exchange-2010-database-folder/
But it depends on various factors on how long it is going take, like size of the database/logs, server performance, storage performance etc...
    Besides this, upgrade Exchange 2010 SP1 to SP3, SP1/SP2 aren't supported anymore! http://blogs.technet.com/b/rmilne/archive/2014/04/09/end-of-exchange-2010-sp2-support.aspx

  • New Exchange 2010 installation. HUB and CAS on two seperate servers, need two certificates?

Title says it all.  I have already completed the Exchange server installation with 2010 R1 on 2008 R2 sp1 servers in HyperV
I have two physical servers in one rack.  HVHost1 one holds EXCHHUB and EXCHMB1  HVHOST2 holds EXCHCAS and EXCHMB2
do I have to generate and request two seperate SAN certificates one for the CAS and one for the HUB? or will one certificate do the trick?
If I can use one certificate, do i need to do anything special to apply it to both servers or just let the wizard do its thing?
    Thanks,

Make sure you are selecting the correct server in EMC when installing the Cert.

  • MS Edge services wont start on exchange 2007 installation on a server 2008 r2 in a 2003 domain

    Hi
I had a previous installation of exchange 2007 vanilla that I had to delete because of some errors on the nic card in a 2003 exchange environnement migration preparation. I've build a brand new 2008 R2 and i'm trying to install a new exchange 2007 SP1. When
the service edge try to start it seems  that it doenst want to get install. I've disable IPV6 from the nic and still the same problem. Is there something that need to be removed in the AD because of my previous 2007 installation ?
    thanks

    Hi,
I find this for your reference:
I would install Exch 2007 with SP3 slipstrreamed.  The download for SP3 is the full installation of Exchange.  The fact that Exch 2007 with SP1 is not R2 compatible, you will run into problems.
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1687160b-634a-43cb-a65a-f355cff0afa6&displaylang=en
"Clean installations of Exchange 2007 SP3 on a new server are possible by using this download in the same manner as you would install Exchange 2007 RTM, Exchange 2007 SP1 or Exchange 2007 SP2.

  • Exchange Server 2013 SP1 Standard: Installation failing can't progress

I'm trying to install Exchange Server 2013 and I keep getting this error and I am unable to progress, I can't find any support on the issue and frankly I don't want to/can't afford to spend $500 to ask Microsoft for technical support (what kind of racket
    do they think they're running?).
    The error message:
    Error:
    The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
    New-PushNotificationsVirtualDirectory -Role Mailbox -DomainController $RoleDomainController;
" was run: "The Active Directory object for virtual directory 'IIS://SVR02.OFFICE.local/W3SVC/24/ROOT/PushNotifications' on 'SVR02' could not be created. This might be because the object already exists in Active Directory. Remove the object from Active Directory, then re-create it.".
Yet, I see no PushNotifications virtual directory or anything remotely related to that on IIS or in the inetpub folders and files. If I try to resume the set-up after this error I get:
    Error:
    The following error was generated when "$error.Clear();
    New-PushNotificationsVirtualDirectory -Role Mailbox -DomainController $RoleDomainController;
" was run: "The AD configuration for virtual directory 'PushNotifications' already exists in 'CN=PushNotifications (Exchange Back End),CN=HTTP,CN=Protocols,CN=SVR02,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=OFFICE,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=OFFICE,DC=local', please remove this AD configuration manually.
    Parameter name: VirtualDirectoryName".
And I have to remove this config using ADSI Edit, which just returns me to the first error.

    3. Setup.EXE
    4. Matches SP1 version numbers
    5. That's just what was made available to me via MSPP, the installer doesn't see any updates?

  • Exchange Server 2010 SP3 Installation with UM Language Pack Error

    Hi All,
Kindly help me in this issue, When I Install Exchange Server 2010 SP3, I faced an error in UM role setup as the below,
and when i searched on it i found solution like "Download the UM language packs and tried to install directly" so i downloaded "UMLanguagePack.en-US" from the below URL:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-eg/download/details.aspx?id=36769
and when i tried to install it, i faced the below error:
also i searched on this error and i found solution in registry as the below:
Try remove registry key for the above error :
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\<Your Version >\UnifiedMessagingRole\LanguagePacks"
and after i did it, i found first error be solved and the second error still the same as the below:
    Error:
A Setup failure previously occurred while installing the UnifiedMessaging role. Either run Setup again for just
this role, or remove the role using Control Panel.
Is there a solution on this issue please i wanna solve it As soon as possible?
    Thanks in advance,

I solved the below error by editing in registry:
    Error:
A Setup failure previously occurred while installing the UnifiedMessaging role. Either run Setup again for just this role, or remove the role using Control Panel.
    Solution:
Open regedit (Start -> run), navigate to the following key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ExchangeServer\v14
Under each role, UnifiedMessagingRole, have a look for an action and watermark entry, Delete these 2 keys, and retry. it solve this error, and You can now run the installation again of your "UMLanguagePack.en-US". and its done and installed now.
After "UMLanguagePack.en-US" Installation, i tried to continue installation of Exchange Server 2010 SP3, but I faced the same first error in UM role setup as the below,
What can i Do? please help urgently.

    Hi,
Please make sure the account has required permissions: Schema Admins, Domain Admins, Enterprise Admins, and Organization Management.
And please check if you have meet the prerequisites for Exchange 2010 installation.

  • Can't see Exchange Server after installation

I know it must be simple, but after installation of Exchange Server 2013 on Server 2012 R2 and getting the "successful" installation message, I can't find the server. It was not problem on Server 2008 and Exchange 2010.
Any ideas as to where I should go to look for Exchange?  I can't even setup mailboxes???!!!
I really am lost on this one.

    Hello,
In addition to above: make sure that Exchange 2013 is installed correctly. Check Exchange installation logs and run the Get-ExchangeServer command using Exchange Management Shell on the new server. You should see both Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 servers.
    Hope it helps,
    Adam

  • Exchange Server 2012 SP1 installation fails

I am not an expert in Exchange. I did set up and administer an Exchange server for a customer years ago, and I just persuaded another customer to purchase and install Exchange Server 2013 SP1.
I downloaded the ISO file and extracted it and then did the install. It told me some Hotfixes needed to be installed, so I installed all that were required. It's worth noting at this point that the link to the KB974405 was wrong and I had to search for the
hotfix. But eventually all prerequisites were installed and installation began. Apart from taking a long time, it appeared to work.
After installation completed I clicked to allow administration to open and I was unable to administer anything. The link to Exchange Administrative Center failed with a 404. I opened IIS and noticed that Exchange Back End was installed on port 444. Subsequently
I observed that the Exchange website appeared to be installed twice, once as Exchange Back End and once under Default Web Site. The first problem was a complaint that a module, which name now escapes me, but which was installed locally had been compiled with
a later version of .Net than the website is using. The website is using .Net 4.5.1. In case it matters I had installed Exchange with both the mailbox and client access roles.
After messing around with it for a long time and finding no relevant help on Google, I decided to uninstall and start over. The uninstalled failed because there are mailboxes. Heaven knows where the mailboxes came from since I had never managed to administer
Exchange. I attempted to use Get-Mailbox cmdlet but got a response the Get-Mailbox was an unknown cmdlet.
I am considering reverting the server back to a backup prior to the install and starting over, but I am not sure it would be any different the second time around. Does Microsoft have any suggestions. I suppose I could ask for a refund, but then I am left

    Please help, I am desperate!

At the risk of stating the obvious, if I could recover the current installation, I wouldn't need to uninstall it. There was no prior Exchange Server on this computer or even in the domain. SO this was a clean install but I can't administer it.
If it helps at all, the module that it complained about was Microsoft.Exchange.OwaUrlModule. Is there any kind of "FixIt" uninstall - I don't it just deleting the database because there is nothing of use in it. Or can I manual delete it? Do you have
any clue why the Get-Maiolbox says it is an unknown cmdlet?

  • Exchange Server 2013 installer will not start or complete

    Hello,
I am trying to MS Exchange Server onto a Windows Server 2012R2 with Active Directory network. I had started an installation process and it shot out a list of pre-requisites that server need before it can attempt to install. I fulfilled every pre-requisite.
Rebooted the server. Now whenever I attempt another installation process again. It starts, gathers information, and quits with event log:
Windows Installer installed the product. Product Name: Microsoft Exchange Server. Product Version: 15.0.516.32. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Installation success or error status: 0.
MS Exchange Server is not listed in Programs and Features to even remove, is it a faulty Microsoft Installer? I have already rebooted numerous times to no avail.
EDIT: Here's a copy of the MSI log, I couldn't find anything to indicate what's going wrong myself, http://pastebin.com/LwCAimuF

    Hi,
I've downloaded (as per instructions above):
Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=41994
Again, the installer repeats the same behavior as before, right now I am running a repair tool on .Net repair tool.
    New log http://pastebin.com/SDynMaDe
Edit: Looks like there's long list of issues trying to fulfill Exchange Pre Requisite.
    Windows Management Framework 4.0

"The certificate for the signer of the message is invalid or not found"
It would probably be best to re-install Windows Server again
