Exchange site resilience 2010 (2 MB Server in each Data Center)

Here is Scenrio:
2 MB servers in Primary Data Center (DC)
2 MB Servers in Secondary DC
With one DAG Across Sites, DAG has IP 2 Addresses (One for Each DC Subnets).
Witness server: Primary DC Server
Alternate Witness: Secodary DC Server
Cluster: Node and File Share Majority
DatacenterActivationMode: DAGonly
================================================
Issue:
Last Night Secondary DC Power Goes Down and all System Shutdown.
So I was Not able to access Email even the Primary DC was up and Exchange Server was runnign fine, I Check the Maibox Databases and It has shown the Database "Dismounted" on Primary DC Exchange Server with Activation Pref =1
I check the Cluster and Cluster Was Down.
As FSW was Up and Accessible, and Two Nodes in Primary Site were UP then Why It happend?
Screen Shots are Attached.

Hi Genius1985,
To solve Event ID 7024, please try to install
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975486 .
More details:
The Cluster services fail on all nodes after you shut down the cluster node that owns the quorum disk resource in Windows Server 2008 SP2
This issue occurs because of a deadlock that causes a timer to expire. This timer terminates the Cluster services.
To solve Event ID 7031, please configure the antivirus program so that it does not scan the MSCS folder on the quorum disk.
More information:

And on the windows boot manger screen they mentioned to :-
inset my windows installation dis and restart my PC.

but not sure if this will fix the problem , baring in mind that the RAM assigned to the VM
is 24 GB & 80 GB hard disk.

  • Server Requirements - Always On in a single server? - Needs clustering even one server on another Data Center?

    Hello:
I have been asking this questions to different forums and got different responses, so I wanted to know if asking to "Microsoft" will give me some good directions. (All in SQL Server 2012, including the OS)
Question 1.- Always On "HAS" to be configured on a WSFC node? How about in a Single SQL Server. (NO Clustering)?.
Question 2.- What about our mirroring processes configured and running in single servers, do we have to have WSFC installed before we can upgrade them to Always On?.
Question 3.- In a case I have WSFC, and configure Always On, can my second or third replica reside in a single SQL Server? (No WSFC). What if I can not have Clustering in a DR Data Center? or I do have only VM's on the DR Center?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Oscar Campanini

    Hi Oscar,
    Please find the answers below.
Question 1.- Always On "HAS" to be configured on a WSFC node? How about in a Single SQL Server. (NO Clustering)?.
                    - Yes . Each replica must be on a different node of a WSFC cluster. Without WSFC Cluster you cannot create always on as it relies on the failover capabilities of the
    cluster.
Question 2.- What about our mirroring processes configured and running in single servers, do we have to have WSFC installed before we can upgrade them to Always On?.
                     - You cannot really upgrade a Database mirroring configuration to Always on , both are different and works differently. Again for Always on each participating
replica must be on a WSFC cluster
Question 3.- In a case I have WSFC, and configure Always On, can my second or third replica reside in a single SQL Server? (No WSFC). What if I can not have Clustering in a DR Data Center? or I do have only VM's on the DR Center?
                   - NO all replicas have to be in single nodes of WSFC cluster.
Note: SQL Server doesnt have to be clustered.
Consider the following scenario. YOu need to create Always on with a 3 node topology ie 1 Primary, I secondary and 1 readonly secondary.
YOu need to have all these three nodes a part of Windows Server Failover Cluster. The clustering needs to be done only in the windows level. YOu can install standalone SQL Servers on all these 3 nodes and then condigure them as replica's in ALways on.

  • HT5390 have a Mac mini server in the data center no physical access. Is it possible to configure a remote "console" that allows shutdown  and reboot remotely ?

A mini mac used for building sits in the data center normally we access via VNC network connection.
I want to have "console" access to shutdown and reboot system.
Reason. Updated to Mountain Lion OS X from 10.7.x and lost VNC connections, now host is down with no physical access.
Alternate is to call data center and see if someone can cycls the power ?

As mentioned by Linc there is no 'lights out' management for the Mac mini (or any current Mac). If the Mac is still running you can initiate a reboot via the GUI or commandline. If however it is completely crashed then there is a solution you could consider which is to get a managed power distribution strip. With this the power strip has its own network connection and lets you remotely turn off (and on) individual power sockets. This would then let you 'hard reboot' the Mac mini even if crashed.

  • Exchange 2010 - Exchange 2013 Outlook 2010 resolves wrong server

    Hello,
We are upgrading from exchange 2010 to 2013.
Now I have migrated a testmailbox, but when I try to configure it in outlook it tries to connect to the Exchange 2010 server instead of the Exchange 2013 server.
I have configured outlook manually like described on the following url:
    http://www.zerohoursleep.com/2013/02/manual-outlook-configuration-with-exchange-2013/
At the "Check Name" step, it will not resolve the Exchange 2013 server guid but the Exchange 2010 server... but the mailbox is migrated to Exchange 2013...
When I try to launch outlook an error occurs:  Cannot open your default e-mail folders.  You must connect to Microsoft Exchange with the current profile before you can synchronize your folders with your Outlook data
    file (.ost)."
Can someone help me out please?
    Thx!

Are you sure the mailbox move completed?  What happens when you log into OWA? Are you having AD replication issues in your environment?

  • Reasons To Encrypt Server Disks In Locked Server Room or Data Center?

Our servers' local disks contain mostly just the OS and minimal software. Actual data is usually on a SAN.
Is it necessary, recommended or even feasible to install full disk encryption on local disks of Windows Server 2008R2 and 2012R2 servers?
What about encryption on disks running from a SAN?

    Hi,
Is it necessary, recommended or even feasible to install full disk encryption on local disks of Windows Server 2008R2 and 2012R2 servers?
Encrypted Hard Drives are a new class of hard drives that are self-encrypting at a hardware level and allow for full disk hardware encryption. Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 support installing to these devices without additional modification.
As for if it is necessary, depends on the importance and confidential level of the data stored.
What about encryption on disks running from a SAN?
You may need to consult with corresponding vendor support to get feasible solution.

  • BI4 server Migration one Data Center to other

    Hi All,
We are currenlty Planing to move the BI4 Server along with SQL DB, Can you please let me know if any best practices to move the server Location.
    Regards,
    Santhosh

    Hi Denis,
We have an issue in the below step :
"create new SIA pointing to CMS DB which was moved from old server.
    start it."
After we do this and open CMC
we could all the services like CMS, I/p & O/P respositories, Adattive processing server etc pointing to the actual(old) BI4 servers instead of new servers
After this if you login to the any one of the server we can able see all the nodes in new and old servers.
Any idea on what the issue would be ?

  • Configuration Exchange 2013 DAG on two Server Data center 2012 with Hyper -V roles

    Dears,
I try to planning and installation two hosts ( Data center 2012 servers) then install Hyper-V role on both this server, then create VM on each Data center server to be install Exchange 2013 on them.
After that I want to configure DAG between Exchanges servers, so what are the prerequisite to do that ?
Note: I use external IBM storage that will be located all VMs and DAG
    Many thanks

    Hi Moon,
In addition to Gulab's suggestion, I would like to clarify the following things:
    1. Yes, we can use Standard or Datacenter version of the Windows Server 2012 operating system to configure Exchange 2013 DAG.
    2. Each member of the DAG should be running the same operating system.
    3. The DAG with an even number of members should have a witness server. A witness server is a server outside a DAG that's used to achieve and maintain quorum when the DAG has an even number of members.
What's more, here are some helpful articles for your reference.

  • Single CAS NameSpace in Multi-Data Center Model With Exchange 2013

    Hi
We are in process of transitioning from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. Our Exchange 2007 infrastructure is as follows:
2 Data centers (DC 1 and DC 2). Both with active user population. Both have their own direct Internet Connectivity
Standalone Exchange 2007 mailbox servers in each data center
Load Balanced CAS (HT co-located) servers using Hardware Load Balancers in each data center. Load balancers are configured with VIP and FQDNs (LoadBalancer1.Com and LoadBalancer2.com)
Currently No access allowed from Internet except ActiveSync (No OWA or OA)
Outlook anywhere is disabled in Exchange 2007 organization but once mailboxes will be moved to Exchange 2013, OA will definitely be used – we will provide OA on Intranet as well as Internet
All the internal URLs including Autodiscover point to VIP (Load Balancer IP)
Autodiscover is not currently published on Internet, but we have a plan to publish it now once Exchange 2013 is introduced
We want to keep a single CAS NameSpace BYOD.ABC.Com for our ActiveSync and OA (and not going to allow OWA) access from Internet. We want to have Split-DNS for our new Exchange 2013 infrastructure due to
the simplicity it brings. So we are going to use one name BYOD.ABC.Com from the Internet. We have GSLB that provide Fault Tolerance and Geo-Load Balance to external requests coming from Exchange clients, between two data centers. When we will
install new Exchange 2013 servers, they’ll be part of new VIP so:
In a 2 data center model, can we name our internal VIPs same in both data centers (i:e BYOD.ABC.Com) as we have decided to go with Split-DNS? Do you see any caveats to this strategy
If the above strategy will not work, what are the alternate approach(es).
If we configure same names for the VIPs in both data centers, it will mean that the Autodiscover SCPs for all the Exchange 2013 CAS objects (and Exchange 2007 CAS objects during co-existence) will point to BYOD.ABC.Com. This should not be a problem for
AD joined systems as they’ll find and contact Autodiscover endpoints in their own sites (based on Keywords attribute that tells which AD site SCP belongs to) –
Please correct me if this is wrong.
If we configure same names for the VIIPs in both data centers, this also means that we have to configure BYOD.ABC.Com on External as well as Internal URLs on all the Exchange 2013 servers across both the data centers – Wouldn’t that be a problem – in terms
    of loops during CAS-CAS Proxy/Redirection?
If we configure different names of the VIPs (say BYOD1.ABC.Com and BYOD2.ABC.Com), how will the Outlook Anywhere requests be handled in both data centers. The OA requests from DC1 will expect the Certificate Principle Name to be BYOD1.ABC.Com and requests
from DC2 will expect the Certificate Principle Name to be BYOD2.ABC.Com. How to get this stuff working. As far as I know, OA expects CPN to match with it’s name.

  • Where to buy Windows Server data Center (BOX) (Retail)

    Hey Everyone ,
Can somebody please point me to the right direction of buying windows server 2012 R2 Data Center edition in a box ?
I want the retail one .. the OEM's are everywhere like in amazon or HP or ..
but I think the OEM is not suitable for me because I have a variety of hard wares like IBM , Cisco and HP so OEM is out of the question .
I searched everywhere but there is no retail version at sight .
Oh I find the Standard edition on Microsoft Store . but there where no data Center .
If anyone have any document that says there's no retail version of DC edition it would be very much appreciated as well .
    thanks again .
    Good Day .

You can't buy the datacenter edition as retail.

  • Moving  production server one data center to other

    Hi all,
Actually we have one Production server all the scenarios are working fine, now we want to creat one new server in another data center and replace the old production server(transfer all the scenarios) .what are the roles(for PI Consultant) involved in this case .
    Please advise me.
    Thanks in advance.

Build a transport in DEV for all your objects and get basis to apply them and activate the changes in PROD. You shouldnt need more than monitoring access in any production system except in error situations.

  • Exchange 2013 Site Resilience - Basic questions for setup in two seperate AD Sites, same domain

I am just getting ramped up with Exchange 2013 and have a friend that I am assisting with planning an exchange 2013 deployment for.  I am not asking for step by step directions for setup, just asking for a basic overview so I can dig in to this and
    assist.
Goal is to have an exchange server, one in NC and one in Switzerland in an active/passive mode for site resilience.  Both servers will be multi role servers.
This is a small organization, less than 50 users and on a budget for equipment.  HQ is in NC and the server will have all roles installed on a single server. Switzerland will have only one Exchange server for fail over.  There is only
one domain total with two AD Sites.
    My questions for clarity -
    1. Can I create a Site resilient deployment with two Exchange Multi Role servers in these locations?
    2. Currently, the organization does not have a Load Balancer.  Will this be required?
    3. They do not have a third location for a Witness Server, what issues could potentially happen if the witness sits in one of the two sites?
    4. Any other basics for this design are much appreciated.  I am reading a lot, however a little confused as I read through the requirements.
Thanks for your input and direction!
    Wall

    Hi
Please find below answers to your questions.
    1. Can I create a Site resilient deployment with two Exchange Multi Role servers in these locations?
    Yes
    2. Currently, the organization does not have a Load Balancer.  Will this be required?
No you don't need to have a load balancer. As you are setting up the infrastructure in Active / Passive mode you don't need a dedicated LB for this.
    3. They do not have a third location for a Witness Server, what issues could potentially happen if the witness sits in one of the two sites?
The issue with the witness server in primary or DR site is if your witness server is not responding your DAG won't work properly (failover). If you don't have a 3rd site then you can setup a witness server in your primary site and Alternate witness server
    to your DR site.
    4. Any other basics for this design are much appreciated.  I am reading a lot, however a little confused as I read through the requirements.
I would recommend to use Exchange sizing calculator and technet is the best resource for you :)
Kindly mark this as answer if it fulfill your requirements. :)

  • Exchange 2010 and Windows server backup hanging

I have a new install of Exchange 2010 running on Server 2K8 standard that I am trying to backup using the Windows server backup. For some reason it just sits at Running Consistency Check for Application Exchange.
I've had it sitting there for about 12 hours with no backup activity taking place.
Has anyone seen this or have any idea whats going on?

Additionally, if you check task manager and see ESEUTIL.EXE running (and taking processor usage) while Backup says "Running consistency check for application Exchange" then it apparently is actually still running.  It would be REALLY nice if
there was a progress indicator on this step!!!
A progress indicator would be nice, especially since new log files continue to get generated as the check goes on.
Here's how I checked my progress:
    Open Resource Monitor (resmon.exe)
    Go to the "Disk" tab
    expand the "Disk Activity" section
sort by the File column (and expand the column a bit)
    you'll see eseutil.exe hitting files looking like \Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy6\Exchange_Log\MailBoxDatabase1.log\E0200005A83.log, E0200005A84.log, E0200005A85.log, etc...
Use calculator to convert those rightmost digits from hex to decimal
Go into the folder with the log files (ex:\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy6\Exchange_Log\MailBoxDatabase1.log\) and find the most recent log file's hex digits and convert that to decimal
We had another team at my company build an Exchange 2010 server this past summer and I just found out that it hadn't been backed up
ever so we're up to 644,000 log files and the server is only moving at 1,312 log files per hour during the consistency check so this could be a 21 day process before the backup even begins.
