Exchange Sync - Tasks are gimped!?

So I got exchange working in Mail a while back, but noticed that all my tasks get dumped into the 'To Do' list bucket...
When I open a task, I cant edit the 'Notes' Area that exists in the task. I can do this from my phone (WM6.5), Outlook 2010, and the web based OWA (Outlook web access)...
Any way to get this to work right?

I am not able to sync Tasks/To Dos in Mail at all with Exchange.
However, they do show up in iCal. You tried managing tasks there? You have to click the pushpin icon at the bottom-right and also make sure you select the "Tasks" checkbox under the Exchange account in the left panel (under "Calendars").

• Exchange Sync Problem: Address Book fields are strange

Hi All,
I started to use Mail and Address Box to sync to my company Exchange 2007 since I upgraded to SL. Everything worked fine except that the inbox of the mail can never show up. Anyway, I assumed everything else work just fine.
However, when I decided not to sync with Exchange anymore and use other services to sync my macbook and iphone, I discovered that there is a big bug in the exchange sync mechanism. All the details of the contact actually sync into arbitrary field names. They look similar and that's why I though it works just fine.
Now the fields look like this in my iphone and mobile me _$!<EX-BusinessPhone>!$_
Can anyone help?

I have a similar question -- seems all the fields that iPhone does utilize are transferred -- but it is limited and apparently not customizable. For example .. if someone has an "other" email address it doesn't show up ... only work and home seem to show up.... would really like to be able to customize which fields I want to carry with me

• E51 doesn't sync Tasks

Hi Everybody.
I have just purchased new E51 and started using Mail for Exchange features. Eveything goes well: emails, calendar events, contacts are syncronized without any problems. But everytime I try to sync tasks, it gives me an error.
I talked to our IT administrator, but it seems that he can not figure out what's the problem. Has anybody experienced such problem? Could the mistake be in our server configuration or my phone settings?
Thank you in advance,
Urmas

Hi Mykhailo,
For your question, "upgraded SharePoint lists" here means the task lists upgraded from earlier versions of SharePoint, such as task lists upgraded from SharePoint 2010.
If you encountered the issue that Work Management Service Application not aggregating upgraded task lists. Please check:
1.These upgraded task lists have been crawled by Search Service Application and in continuous crawling mode.
2.The web application pool account you used for My Sites must also have SPDataAccess SQL permissions in your other Content databases of your web applications where these upgraded task lists reside.
3.Make sure the upgraded task lists have been assigned to your account.
4.The Work Management Service Application should use the same account as the web application where these upgraded task lists reside.
5.The Task content type should be marked as the Default Content Type for these upgraded task lists.
6.The web application where upgraded task lists reside is associated with the application proxy group which hosts the WMA service application.

• Exchange Sync works for Mail, Calendar, Contacts - but not for Notes

Hi,
I am using an iPhone 3G (16GB). The sync with my account on an Exchange Server (I think 2003) is working just great. Mail, Calendar, Contacts are all in snyc, but there seems to be no way of synchronising the Notes between the iPhone native app and the Exchange Notes.
Is there any way to make that happen?

Notes syncing is only supported via USB/iTunes sync with Outlook (Windows) or Mail (Mac), not via Exchange. So, there is no way to sync the native iPhone Notes app with your notes on Exchange. There are 3rd party apps that can access your Exchange notes, though.

Usually if you have some kind of hardware failure there is some beeping during POST or most motherboards now have LED indicators to produce and error message based on the type of failure
So if its bad memory, not place properly, mismatched, processor not inserted properly, mismatched voltage or voltage connector not present etc it beeps or generates the error id.
Power supplies can be tested for failure. There are some walk throughs for testing just them with a switch, paperclip or a jumper (I'd suggest not doing this if you are not familiar with the dangers of electricity).
Memory can be tested with memory diagnostics programs like Memtest+
Processors can overheat if the proper precautions have not been taken usually you will get a POST beep or error code for that.
If the motherboard has no response then do the basics first:
Check power connectors and power supply. Once you determine that is not the case move on to other items like graphics cards in all the way or memory.

• IOS 4.1 on iPhone 3G has broken corporate exchange sync (works on iPhone 4)

At work we use iPhone Configuration Utility to setup corporate exchange activesync account for VIP and IT users. Our configuration uses certificate.
The last iOS update (4.1) has broken the sync for iPhones 3G.
It still work with iPhone 4 (sorry we don't have 3GS for testing !) and it worked on iOS 4.02 on the 3G.
On the 3G iOS 4.1 Mail sync the folders of the mailbox but not the messages nor calendar and contacts.
We've tried recreating the certificate but nothing changes.
Google exchange sync still works fine.
Nothing has changed on the Exchange side (HTC phones are syncing well)
Does anybody has the same problem ? and howto fix it ?
The following log was captured on the iPhone Configuration Utility on a 3G iPhone :

Same problem here. While syncing Exchange e-mail & Contacts whether over wi-fi or 3G or Edge net, phone is basically unusable until the sync completes. I have phone set to sync e-mail every 15 minutes to save battery, but it seems that e-mail and contacts sync if you open them. So, if you open contacts to look up a phone number, scrolling becomes unresponsive, as does "selecting" a name or number, presumably until sync is complete (there are about 2,000 contacts in my directory). Seems to have started with 4.1. Likewise, the phone keypad is unresponsive until sync completes. Hit a number and nothing appears to happen, so I hit it again (only to have the number repeated several times in the display 10 or 15 seconds later once sync completes). Agree it's an apparent background priority issue. A pain in the neck.
My co-workers told me they thought quickest solution was to chuck it and get a Droid. I'm not quite to that point. Anybody know of a fix yet?

• Exchange sync causing iPhone to crash?

I've been using the 2.0 software since release date and it's been geat. I've had a random downloaded app or two crash, but that's about it. No problems with the main iPhone OS.
Just recently I pulled my iPhone (first gen) out of pocket only to see it stuck at a white apple icon on a black screen. Uh oh. Tried hard resetting it, and ended up getting the connect to iTunes message. Brought it back to my desk, and it told me it was in recovery mode.
I recovered and didn't do a restore from backup. I re-entered in my exchange information which went through fine, then tried to open my contacts, and BLAMMO, back to the apple icon again. I've since restored 7 more times or so, sometimes fresh, sometimes restoring from a backup, and every time it connects to exchange, my iPhone will reset again. It doesn't appear to be contact specific, mail specific, or any single function whatsoever. If I don't input my password, everything is fine. All functions on the iPhone work flawlessly. Then I'll get daring again, go into exchange, enter my password, and back to the logo it goes. Even tried disabling contacts, calendar, and mail sync prior to entering my exchange password and ran into the same problem.
Has anyone else seen this or something similar? I've dropped my iphone a few times but nothing that would make me flinch for it's safety, and all a long while ago. The screen is actually cracked because I knocked it off of an armrest onto stone tile and it fell just the right way ... but it's been like that for the better part of a year so I highly doubt that's the problem.
I brought the iPhone into an apple store and had a genius look at it. He couldn't tell me what was going on but since the iPhone is out of warranty, simply sending it in for troubleshooting on a hardware level would cost me, so I opted to hold out. Since this is a new software revision, he suggested waiting for the next update and seeing what happens. He didn't have an old iPhone I could test on so he let me try entering the information into a 3g phone and it didn't crash it so I don't think it's something incredibly special with what exchange is pushing to the phone, either that or the 3g isn't prone to the problem.
What I know:
Everything exchange worked fine for a week or two before this started happening.
I didn't make any configuration changes or do anything that might deserve note that could cause something like this.
It didn't happen on an iPhone 3g. Haven't tested on another first gen iPhone yet.
It happens every time i re-enable exchange and input my password. Even with contacts, calendar, and mail push all disabled and not opening any of the apps.
I have gmail configured on the phone which works fine.
There is absolutely no other problem with the phone or any of the software on it. It has been rock solid since the day I bought it ... prior to this issue I could count the number of times it's locked up on me (and simply required a reset, not a restore!) on one hand.
I don't know what to do. I live off of exchange now. I need my fix! Has anyone else encountered anything like this? I can wait for a software update and hope it fixes my problem but honestly, getting exchange working for me is so important that if this is somehow a problem unique to my phone it'll be worth shelling out $200 for a 3g. I'd like to avoid it though since I'm quite happy with my old iPhone and don't really need the new features which is why I haven't already shelled out for it!

I don't have very many contacts, and yes, I'm also seeing this problem even if I have contacts and calendar disabled.
This started happening the same day our IT team had a discussion regarding iPhone support and it was determined they did not want to support it ... from the gossip I could gather from the local IT head here there was an offhand comment of "yeah we can prevent that" but they certainly didn't prevent all exchange sync because other phones, both supported and unsupported continue to work.
I know there's a remote wipe feature for the iPhone through exchange, but don't know much else past that. Is it possible to have an automatic remote wipe upon first connection to exchange? I found this video:
http://video.aol.com/video-detail/iphone-20-remote-wipe-feature-in-exchange/5735 75531
I get the same screen the moment I connect to exchange. The only reason why I'm not sure if this really the cause is because I tested on a 3g phone and it worked fine, and I have no reason to believe the 3g is somehow impervious to remote wipe via some software glitch otherwise I think there would be a whole big blowup about it.
I'm going to have a hard time digging up further information from our internal support team ... I'm on hosting which reports to the same CIO and I don't want to get ratted out as doing unsupported stuff! I'm still digging though for more answers.
Are all of you impacted users connecting to WORK? Have any of your workplaces issued formal anti-iphone policies or at least confirmed they ARE or ARE NOT performing a remote wipe?

• IOS6: calendar displays Exchange-Synced events in gray

Hi,
we have a problem with our Active-Sync implementation (Exchange-Sync) in that events after sync are displayed with a gray color and dashed borders. After a field is edited the event is displayed in the originally expected color. This only happens on devices running iOS 6.
The sync-response from the server iOS 6 receives is the following:

How should we change our implementation of the Exchange-Sync service so that iOS 6 displays our events correctly again?

LudwigNeer,
I am having the same issue. How or where did you find this above sync-response?
I also noticed that most but not all appointments/meetings are showing up on the iPad. Have you expirienced this issue as well?

• Error: The type initializer for 'Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.ThrottlingModule`1' threw an exception.

having problems on new server so I followed instructions to remove Exchange Server 2013 Sp1 using ADSI edit p;er these instructions:
http://blog.dargel.at/2012/11/20/complete-remove-exchange-2013-using-adsiedit/
now when I re-run setup for exchange 2013 SP1 I get the error :
"Error: The type initializer for 'Microsoft.Exchange.Configuration.Tasks.ThrottlingModule`1' threw an exception."
David Sheetz MCP

contrary to what Ed says you can fix this, it is way harder than it should be and I have NEVER had this many issues on a fresh build!
things to note on Exchange 2013
1. IPv6 MUST work and also DNS set manually, verify port 25 is open on your firewalls!
2. even if services are running make sure there are no errors in the application event log and check that all services on the Exchange server are set to ACTIVE. to find out type the below command in exchange management shell
Get-ServerComponentState –Identity servername
3. The group "everyone" did not have the right "Access this computer from the network". This could be seen by an audit failure in the security log stating that the user
"<mailbox server name>" did not have the required login type (login type 3).
Adding everyone to the "Access this computer from the network" right solved the issue.
To enable "Access this computer from the network" :
Run "gpedit.msc"
Navigate through
Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > User Rights Assignment
Double click
on "Access this computer from the network", and ensure "Everyone" is added.
4. verify all connectors are setup correctly
Also I found an error in the event log Event
ID: 1009 once I fixed that emails started to fly!
To resolve the issue, use one of the following methods.
Method 1
Create a new Active Directory group that is named “ContentSubmitters,” and then grant Admistrators and NetworkService full access to the group. This is a dummy group and should be used as a placeholder only. You might want to add a description so that
the group is not removed.
Force or wait for Active Directory replication.
Restart the following services:
Microsoft Exchange Search
Microsoft Exchange Search Host Controller
Method 2
You can also resolve this problem by removing a configuration entry that refers to the ContentSubmitters group. This entry is present in four files. Each file is calledWcfConfigurator.xml,
and you can find each file in the following folder:
%ExchangeInstallPath%\Bin\Search\Ceres\HostController\Data\Nodes\Fsis\<var style="border:0px;font-family:monospace, monospace;font-size:1em;font-style:inherit;font-weight:inherit;margin:0px;outline:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;">NODENAME</var>\Configuration\Local
Here, “%ExchangeInstallPath%” is the Exchange installation root path (available in the environment variable of that name), and the placeholder <var style="border:0px;font-family:monospace, monospace;font-size:1em;font-style:inherit;font-weight:inherit;margin:0px;outline:0px;padding:0px;vertical-align:baseline;">NODENAME</var> represents
one of the following names. (There is one name for each of the four files that are to be edited.)

• Exchange synced and lost all email on MacBook (mail 4.6)

Our company internal server died on Tuesday, internal web mail (exchange) / was a full loss.
I still had all emails and folders on my MacBook & iPad.
We switched to web hosted exchange Friday. Set up the new account to export all emails from MacBook but exchange synced first,I lost all emails & folders etc. (I have a complete set on my iPad still though)
I understand that imap & pop are saved to mail but exchange emails and folders are not. (unless you create a new mailbox, select all, copy and export to a file)
I changed my default mail account to gmail on Tuesday to continue working & I tried to forward exchange emails from my iPad using my gmail account as the default but it sits in the outbox.
I tried to backup with time machine last week but my external is almost full & it won't overwrite.
Question:
Are the emails still on my MacBook somewhere? Snow leopard 10.6.8
can i recover the lost emails and folders somehow? (mail 4.6)
or export from iPad to the MacBook or exchange? (Without losing them also.)
Any help would greatly appreciated.

Are the emails still on my MacBook somewhere?
If the mail is still on your computer it would be in your user Library/Mail - your mailboxes are in that folder.
can i recover the lost emails and folders somehow?
Do you have a backup you can restore from?

• IPhone Exchange Sync Question

I had a corporate OTA MS-Exchange email account that syncs all emails, contacts and calendar events with my iPhone. I recently changed companies. The old company shut off my exchange account access and 99% of the contacts, most of them personal instead of business, are now no longer viewable on the iPhone. How can I view them again to either manually capture the data or send them to my new exchange sync account?
Update: I read thru some discussions on this dating back to 2009. Those blogs suggested that the contact info was only actually ever present on the exchange server and never on the iPhone itself and, as a result, when I deleted the exchange service of the old company on my phone, all of the contacts were removed and lost forever. I don't agree with "lost forever". If all of this contact info was only ever on the exchange server and never on the phone, then why could I see them when I was out of coverage (i.e. on a plane, camping in the moutains, etc.). Clearly the data is on the phone as well as on the exchange server. I beleive that by deleting the "service" on the phone, I have merely removed the pointer to the info that was stored on the phone under that exchange service.
New question: how do I get this data back from the phone? How do I look at the actual file structure on the phone to try to find, open and copy the data in the contacts from the phone?

It was "on the phone" as you surmise, but it was not part of any backup that is made by iTunes. Data in exchange accounts, including contacts, are 'owned' by the exchange server.
The only possible way to get the contacts would be for an it person to go into your exchange account (which probably no longer exist), export or print out the contact information, and send it to you.
Sorry. There is no magic that will get the data back.
Don't store personal information of any kind on company computers. Thus Endeth the lesson for today.

• Exchange Sync

Hi all.
I updated from my iPhone 2G (with 3.1.3) to iPhone 4 (iOS 4.1) few weeks ago and I have a trouble with exchange sync. I had an Exchange Sync with my email account on iPhone 2G without any problem to set up more options (days) to sync my email. Now, I have only three possibilities to sync - 1 day, 3 days and one week. I have completely same setting as on my old iPhone. Screenshot from my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.1). http://yfrog.com/8b7i5cj
If I put the same exchange set up to iPhone 2G with 3.1.3 I have a more options to set up the sync.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Also, what version of Exchange sync are you using? If it is 2010, then the calendar sync is not yet compatible as relayed from Samsung. It will however work with contacts and mail.
