Exchange syncing of contacts weirdly incomplete

I am an Office 365 exchange user, with an iPhone, a PC with Outlook, an iPad and a couple Mac laptops.  I chalked it up to a problem with the first laptop, but when the second laptop was set up and did the exact same thing, I realized I have a more complicated problem.
Basically, I set up my exchange account through the Accounts control panel and mail and calendars worked perfectly.  Contacts on the other hand only show about 200 contacts (194 to be exact) and it only shows email addresses.  No names, no phone numbers, no addresses, just 194 email address-only contact cards.  When I add a new contact there, it syncs to all other devices, but nothing that I do can cause any of the other 2100 contacts on my Outlook, iPhone and iPad to appear on either of the two Yosemite Macs.  I can find no location that shows those 194 "contacts".  I thought maybe it was the suggested contacts in Outlook that was showing up, but no, that's empty.  I have no other contacts folder with any contacts in it, and again, remember that this all works perfectly on my iPhone and iPad.  There's nothing out of the ordinary about how these contacts are stored - bog standard contacts folder.
Any tips on where to begin troubleshooting this?  I run my own computer support business so I have plenty of comfort with all this stuff, but this one is a mystery so far.

FYI, out of nowhere maybe 7 days later, all the contacts just appeared one day.  I knew it because I got an iMessage and it had a name on it instead of just a number.  Weird.  And lame

  • Exchange server issue: contacts entered on phone don't sync

I sync my 3Gs with Outlook via Exchange Server. Calendar entries sync back and forth with no problem.
Problem #1: Recently I noticed that contacts entered on the phone do not seem to move to Outlook. Contacts entered in Outlook move to phone via fetch or push with no problem.
Problem #2: At least one contact that used to be both on the phone & in Outlook has disappeared from Outlook. I am worried this may be a sync related issue.
    Would appreciate help. Thanks!

    You're welcome.
Are you telling me that it is NOT possible to transfer contacts entered on the iphone to Outlook? If so, that's a major pain. If it IS possible, I would like to know how to do it.
No, that is not what I said.
When syncing contacts over the air with an Exchange account on an iPhone, the contacts are kept synchronized with your Exchange online contacts - those available on the Exchange Server, and Outlook is kept synchronized with the Exchange server. This is no different when syncing calendar events over the air with an Exchange account.
    Copied from your earlier post.
I turned off Contact sync. It deleted all Outlook contacts from the phone, but left contacts "native" to the iPhone.
I assume the contacts "native" on the iPhone were manually entered on your iPhone before enabling over the air syncing for contacts with your Exchange account on your iPhone and you were provided this prompt when doing so.
I turned on Contact sync. The phone popped up a dialog box: "What would you like to do with existing local contacts on your iPhone?" Options: Keep on my iPhone. Delete. Cancel.
And you selected "Keep on my iPhone" for these contacts. If so, these contacts that were manually entered on your iPhone before enabling over the air syncing with your Exchange account on your iPhone are stored separately on your iPhone. There is not a merge option when doing so - the options are keep on my iPhone, delete, or cancel. These contacts cannot be merged with the Exchange server and are stored separately on your iPhone. You can view all contacts combined or separately, but you can't merge the two.
If you want these contacts available with your Exchange online address book, you will need to manually enter the contacts with Outlook which is being kept synchronized with the Exchange server, or manually enter the contacts on your iPhone with your Exchange contacts or address book selected.

  • I have trouble syncing my exchange calendar and contacts on my mac. Can anyone help please?

I have trouble syncing my exchange calendar and contacts on my mac. They will initially load up but will not sync back and forth and stay up to date. Can anyone help please?

I forgot to add my iPhone and iPad work seamlessly with these two topics but my iMac and my Macbook Air don't.

  • How do I sync my contacts with exchange server?

I have a mac and an ipad and an iphone and my office is all microsoft and pc's.  We are running outlook and exchange server.  My email works fine.  My calendar works "just ok" as it is quirky.  The BIG problem is syncing my contacts on all three devices with my company's contact list which lives on the exchange server.  What is the deal with this?  Is there a work-around?

Let me fill in some blanks.  I have a powerbook running Lion and using mail, addressbook and ical.  My office is all on pc's and outlook and connected up on our network with exchange server.  So here is the issue:
    a.     It first surfaced when we got iphones.  Apple connects to exchange server's email and calendar relatively well but we have a COMPANY contact list that works great on exchange and outlook on everybody's PC's but DOES NOT work with the iphone unless you buy a third-party app that costs like $300.
    b.     THEN, I decided to get a mac and I have the same problem with the native apple applications (mail, addressbook and ical).  Everything works EXCEPT addressbook.  Basically, I have to create a fully redundant addressbook that will not talk to the exchange server company contact list.
So my question is really this:  I don't want to have a separate contact list for my company contacts that does not sync with the mother ship.  I don't like not having all my contacts on all my devices.  It seems that there is a problem between the global contact list in exchange and my addressbook contacts on my apple devices.
Does anybody know about this issue and does anybody know how to solve?

  • Iphone6 plus cannot sync to update my exchange calendar and contact.

My new Iphone6 plus cannot sync to update my exchange calendar and contact. I have tried deleting the account and reset. still don't work. Frustrating. Need urgent fix as I need to travel soon and loss track of my calendar.

This is exchange account from work, that I need to sync the calendar to my iphone when I travel and cannot connect to internet. My old iphone work, but once backup from my old iphone to this current new iphone plus, do not work anymore. There is no need and no way to register my device.

  • Selective sync of contacts from exchange

    Hi,
Have a customer here synchronising their iPhone with office 365, I have a question about the syncing of contacts. This particular customer has a shared contact list with 1,000s of contacts within 365. Seperate to this list each user also has a personal contacts list also held within 365. This particular user only wants to sync his 'my contacts' to his iPhone through exchange rather than the bulk list of contacts. How can I go about this? As currently I can only sync both lists not one or the other.

the contacts are visible only when the phone is connected. or you need to do a backup of the phonebook or sync with outlook.
What's the law of the jungle?

  • Iphone exchange sync contacts

When I try to sync my Contacts then my Iphone fineshes (circle don't rotate in status bar) at 118 or 243 contacts without an error.
In my Outlook (Exchange account) I have 388 contacts and 93 proposed contacts so 481 all exchange contacts.
Is there a limit for exchange sync contacts?
I tested it with an Itunes (10.2.2) connection and gprs connection the same result...
    Any idea?
    E-mail sync is ok.
    regards

I read that Google Contacts exchange does not support this second mobile field, I will have to use a fax mobile, or something like that.
    Cheers

  • Removing "On My iPhone" Contacts group: Google (Exchange) Sync

    Hi guys,
I've got all my contacts properly syncing with Google Sync.
But as soon as I set it up on the iPhone, I get this empty folder in Contacts "On My iPhone"/"All on My iPhone", as well as Exchange Contacts and Exchange Global Address List.
Then I have to change Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars/Contacts/Default Account to "Exchange" rather than "On My iPhone".
Is there any way to just remove "All on my iPhone" empty directory, or is it impossible with Exchange syncing?
    Thanks.

Hmmm, that would work, but in iOS you can't manage the groups and such, how would I do that exactly?

  • ITunes 6.0.1.3 not syncing Outlook Contacts or Calendar with ipod Nano 4GB

I have Outlook 2003 installed and setup with a Microsoft Exchange Server. I have about 200 contacts currently stored in it.
I recently purchased a ipod nano 4gb with hopes of syncing my contacts and calendar with that and being able to throw away my old Palm. The ipod nano works great for syncing music but I can't get it to sync either the calendar or contacts from outlook.
I check the box for syncing contacts and choose Microsoft Outlook from the drop down. Then iTunes only gives me the option of syncing all contacts (which is fine with me) and I click Okay. Then I choose update from the ipod nano right click menu. The status bar says updating contacts but does not import any of my contact to my ipod. Also, except for the 1st time, the Permission Window asking for access to Outlook has not popped up again. When it did that first time, I was told that there was an error and itunes could not copy contacts over. Since then there have been no errors from iTunes.
I have tried all the steps in the apple online help docs (unchecking boxes, restarting, re-checking, etc..) but can't find a solution. I don't want to have to manually Save As each calendar item and contact. Frankly, I'd rather just return the device.
    Can anyone help me?
    thanks in advance.

Possible. It is just odd that the day before the update to 9.x.x (I forgot the release), it worked great. Following that upgrade, the sync died. I could reinstall the old release (per instructions from Apple Tech Support) and it would sync. However, not upgrading your iTunes means not upgrading your OS...and that is not an option. However, I think I will have XP reistalled on my machine...and then put a fresh install on iTunes...and see what happens.

  • Contacts & iCloud: can you have more than one iCloud account syncing with Contacts on the Mac?

I want to set up a shared iCloud account for multiple users in a (very) small office environment, where several new iOS devices and, for the moment, two Macs (2012 13" MacBook Pro and 2013 Mac Mini) will be able to read/write to a shared Contacts account – and at the same time maintain a second, personal iCloud account linked to the same Contacts app on one machine, which account's contacts data will remain private and inaccessible to the other Macs/devices which are likewise using the shared account.
Can this be done? (I.e., can Contacts app on a Mac include separate iCloud accounts?)
If so, how to set it up?
    Thanks

Thanks for your answer. There's no problem with others accessing that Mac – it's used by one person only – my question is can you add a second iCloud account to Contacts. Over the past two days I had tried to add the shared iCloud account to Contacts and kept getting failures. But maybe the server was down or the ISP was weird: your response assumes it can be done and so, to my embarrassment, I tried again just now and violá, it's done. Thanks again.
P.S. Finding a simple presentation that makes clear you can have more than one iCloud accounts syncing to Contacts at the same time was very hard to find, either from Apple or others on the web. Maybe I don't know how to search, but they could do with a clear explanation of this for the uninitiated.

  • How do you sync iCloud (contact, calendar, task) to outlook 2011 for Mac? and how do you make seemless sync between iCloud to Outlook 2011 to Blackberry device or an iPad?

I have three device: Macbook Pro (OSX 10.7.5) for work; an iPad and a Blackberry for mobile. I used mail, iCal, and Address Book combine with mobileme (iCloud) to exchange data such as contact, calendar and task from my Mackbook Pro to my iPad but never to Blackberry. The problem is my boss was asking me to change to Outlook 2011 for Mac because some of the email that I sent from Mail did not appear in my client's Blackberry. So how do you sync iCloud (contact, calendar, task) to Outlook 2011 for Mac? and how do you make seemless sync between iCloud to Outlook 2011 to Blackberry device or an iPad?
    Best regards,

  • ITunes on Win 7 64 bit will not sync Google Contacts to iPad

This was particularly infuriating for a few solid hours one evening. I had originally synced my iPad to a Macbook Pro. I sold the MacBook, and had to do a warranty swap @ the Apple store with the iPad. This meant I needed to sync my new iPad with iTunes on my desktop, a computer running Windows 7 64 bit. Everything synced up just fine, except iTunes refused to sync my Google Contacts with the iPad. I went through the process again and again, ensuring I was choosing Google Contacts on the Info screen, correctly entering my account info, etc. I would sync, then check the Contacts on the iPad, and nothing.
I was going to call Apple support from work the next day, but just for the heck of it before I did I connected the iPad to my work computer, a Win XP Pro box, and tried to sync the Google Contacts from that copy of iTunes. It worked just fine, and loaded all my Google Contacts on to the iPad. Both my home Win 7 64 box and my work XP box had the most up-to-date version of iTunes at the time (9.1.1 I believe).
Any clue as to why iTunes refuses to sync Google Contacts on Win 7 64? I have to sync through iTunes, since Apple sees fit to only allow one Exchange account in iPhone OS 3.x.x and I have my work email setup as the Exchange account, and thusly cannot setup Gmail as the Exchange account.

Just for the heck of it, I did a factory reset on the iPad again, and gave it another shot on the Win 7 64 machine at home. I uninstalled iTunes, restarted the computer, installed iTunes 9.1.1 64 bit for Windows, and achieved the exact same results: impossible to get iTunes to sync Google Contacts to the iPad. It goes through the motions, but never delivers any contacts to the iPad.

  • How do I disconnect from MS Exchange and Gmail Contacts?

When I got my iPhone 3GS (a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...) I set it up to sync its address book (Contacts) to my Gmail contact list using some instructions I found which used "Microsoft Exchange Server". Worked pretty well so I then linked my wife's iPhone Contacts to *my* Gmail list so we would have the same list of addresses. Seemed to work. Over time, however, the list ballooned and various useless addresses got added (Gmail would add those people to whom I simply had replied on an email - I have fixed that!)
Now, there is iCloud and my wife and I have shiny new iPhone 5 phones. I hope to "clean up" my current list of addresses and then use that as my new starting point for contacts/addresses. I would like to disconnect from Gmail's contact list and link the Address Book on my iMac and the two iPhones to use the same list of contacts - and I presume that using iCloud for the Mac/iPhones would make the most sense. I still want to be able to use Gmail - but I don't want its contact list clogging *my* iPhone/iMac address book list.
I transferred my old iPhone settings to my new iPhone. When I connect my iPhone to iTunes and go to the "Info" page, the "Sync Contacts" box is unchecked but there is a statement "Your contacts are being synced with Microsoft Exchange over the air. You c..." Despite my clicking various boxes, I can't get the rest of the message nor can I figure out how to stop this MS Exchange syncing!! Here is a screen shot:
I have looked on my iPhone and can't find any reference to starting/stopping MS Exchange syncing. I can't seem to find anywhere on my Mac that will let me change the setting either.
I would appreciate any help with this or suggestions on a better way of linking our two iPhones and my Mac to use the same contact list - and to maintain control over it, specifically how to keep it separate from Gmail contacts.
    Thanks for your help.
    David

    Not possible.
When turning over the air syncing for contact info off with an Exchange or MobileMe account, or when deleting the account from the iPhone, contact info will be removed from the iPhone.
You need to export the contact info from the Exchange server in a format that is supported for importing by the Address Book on your Mac.

  • Sync Google Contacts via iTunes not working

    Hi
Just got a new Macbook with Yosemite and am syncing my Google Mail, Calendar, Contacts with the Macbook without difficulty,  I have disabled iCloud syncing for Mail, Calendar, and Contacts.
Now, I want to get Google Contacts set up on my old iPhone 3G (iOS 4.2.1) as a stop gap before getting a new iPhone down the line.  However, I can't find a reliable way of getting my Google Contacts on to the iPhone 3G.
Exchange Sync and CardDAV do not work.  I don't mind syncing via iTunes but I can't set this up either.  Despite telling iTunes to sync 'All Contacts' it won't sync those from my Google account.  Only contacts in 'On My Mac' group sync across, but I don't want to manually keep track of and copy new Google contacts into this group just to sync.
Why won't iTunes sync the Google contacts group - currently it is the only group in my OS X Contacts.
I have reset sync and reinitialised the iPhone to factory image - neither works.
    Any advice appreciated.

    try rebooting the appletv.
also, you have a first generation appletv but have posted in the second generation appletv forum.

  • IOS 4.1 on iPhone 3G has broken corporate exchange sync (works on iPhone 4)

At work we use iPhone Configuration Utility to setup corporate exchange activesync account for VIP and IT users. Our configuration uses certificate.
The last iOS update (4.1) has broken the sync for iPhones 3G.
It still work with iPhone 4 (sorry we don't have 3GS for testing !) and it worked on iOS 4.02 on the 3G.
On the 3G iOS 4.1 Mail sync the folders of the mailbox but not the messages nor calendar and contacts.
We've tried recreating the certificate but nothing changes.
Google exchange sync still works fine.
Nothing has changed on the Exchange side (HTC phones are syncing well)
Does anybody has the same problem ? and howto fix it ?

Same problem here. While syncing Exchange e-mail & Contacts whether over wi-fi or 3G or Edge net, phone is basically unusable until the sync completes. I have phone set to sync e-mail every 15 minutes to save battery, but it seems that e-mail and contacts sync if you open them. So, if you open contacts to look up a phone number, scrolling becomes unresponsive, as does "selecting" a name or number, presumably until sync is complete (there are about 2,000 contacts in my directory). Seems to have started with 4.1. Likewise, the phone keypad is unresponsive until sync completes. Hit a number and nothing appears to happen, so I hit it again (only to have the number repeated several times in the display 10 or 15 seconds later once sync completes). Agree it's an apparent background priority issue. A pain in the neck.
My co-workers told me they thought quickest solution was to chuck it and get a Droid. I'm not quite to that point. Anybody know of a fix yet?
