Exchange---what's needed on server end

I recently dumped my Blackjack and picked up an iPhone (LOVE IT).

TAKE TWO.....
I recently dumped my Blackjack and picked up an iPhone (LOVE IT). I am biding my time, waiting patiently for June to arrive so that I will be able to access my company's Exchange server. My company does not allow IMAP access, so i'm currently using Outlook Web Access to get my email.
Our company's wireless provider is Verizon. My colleagues that use Blackberries need to purchase a BB user license to access the server. When I got my AT&T Blackjack, I didn't need to purchase any special license, etc. I just chose "Exchange" in the email configuration menu and voila!---I was in.
My question---once that magical day in June arrives and I download the software update, what needs to be done on the server side so that I can gain access? Does IT need to download any special program, etc.? I'm hoping that this will work just as easily as my Blackjack did since the iPhone will be using ActiveSync as well.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

  • What is needed on ISP end for hosting own mail?

I recently acquired a static IP from Verizon fios for our office. For the past ten years or so we have had an external mail and web host and I am considering severing ties and hosting those services in house.
Any advice on the necessary changes I would need to make to DNS and if I would need Verizon to make changes on their end?
    Thanks you in advance.
    Pete

web service can move anytime, mail has extra requirements.
make sure you have a matching forward/reverse dns.
if your hostname for the machine is www.domain.com and the IP is 209.209.209.209, then make sure verizon setups up reverse dns for 209.209.209.209 -> www.domain.com
They are familiar with this requirement.
Check and see if your new IP is on a black-list.

If it's on a black list, have it removed before you move mail service.
Running a mail server can be a challenge...

  • How many CALs do i need? Server 2012 - Exchange 2013 - RDP

    Hi,
(I apologize for the grammar and spelling mistakes, but im confident in the fact that the text is understandable. If not, please let me know. I have used UK English for spelling.)
I did some research and read the following:
(unable to post links, my email needs to be 'verified')
And some MS pages regarding the CALs for Windows 2008 R2 (don't ask why).
This is basically what i want to do:
    OS:
Windows 2012 R2, possibly 2x because of the RDS role.
Roles Server1:  Active Directory and Exchange 2013
Roles Server2: File server and RDS
    Users:
    20
    PC’s:
Approx. 15. Not sure about the exact numbers, but i am sure that there are more users than client pc’s.
    Users RDP:
Starting with 10 but eventually every user will be using RDP, so it might be also 20. The 10 we start with will not have the ability of logging into a client PC but RDP only.
MS Software:    Outlook 2010 or 2013, depends on the support by MS.
We are going to start with an AD with a home folder, roaming profiles and an email account. If everything go’s whell, we plan to start letting users connect tot heir workspace via RDP.
I came to the following conclusion and need your input on this:
20 User CALs, As far as i know, I need 1 user cal for an AD account and a RDP cal for
one RDP account. Without a User CAL, i cant issue a RDP user cal, is this correct?
20 RDP User CALs, does this mean that all my users can log into a RDS session via any client, even their own private pc?
    No Device calls, redundant?
20 Exchange CALs, I am not sure about this one, the second link i found only mentions acces via web and mobile. I would also like to know if the Exchange CAL is per user or email. If it’s per user, then wat do i do with an email that is meant for multiple
    users?
2 Server CALs, This is just buying 2012R2 isnt it? Does this also allow me to use one physically and the other as a VM in the physical one? Just asking, im not really going to use a VM.
Hope you guys can help me out on this one, i didn’t expect the CALs would bet his complicated.

    Hi,
Under Per User licensing, you need a license for each unique human that will access the software.  Based on what you have written above, below is a general description of the licenses you need:
20 Per User Windows Server CALs
    20 Per User RDS CALs
20 Per User Exchange Standard CALs
1 Exchange Server 2013 Standard license
    2 Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard licenses
    Notes:
Each Server 2012 R2 Standard license allows you to install it on a physical server (up to 2 CPU sockets) with the Hyper-V role installed, and install it in 2 VMs.  The key here from a licensing perspective is the installation on the physical server
is only being used for Hyper-V--if you use it for some other purpose (like AD, SQL, etc.) then you are only permitted to run 2012 R2 on 1 VM without an additional license.  Running your servers as VMs is the common and recommended method now, unless
you have a specific reason not to.
I listed two 2012 R2 licenses above because from your description I get the idea that you will have 2 physical servers.
It is preferred to split key roles/functions onto separate VMs if possible.  For example, it would be preferred to have Exchange on its own VM(s).  This is obviously subject to your specific situation, budget, etc.  In smaller environments
some roles will be combined in order to save money.
I did not include licenses for Office in the list above.
Yes, Per User licensing means the user can access the software from any device, even their own private pc.
I recommend you purchase licenses through a MS volume licensing program that fits your needs.  Adding Software Assurance (SA) to your licenses will allow you to get the new versions when they are released as well as give some additional licensing rights.
As always, it is essential to read the Product Use Rights (PUR) document, licensing agreements, terms and conditions, etc., as applicable to your licenses.
I recommend you also take a look at the Office365 plans that include Office/Exchange/etc.  There are Exchange-only plans as well.  Depending on your needs it may be preferred to have your users access Exchange in the cloud and run RDS on premises.

  • What is the windows server 2013 license version than I need to install workflow manager 1.0

what is the windows server 2013 license version than I need to install workflow manager 1.0?
enterprise or standard? can I install it on datacenter?
please provide me with the reference.
    thanks

Workflow Manager will work with either SharePoint Enterprise or Standard.  It doesn't work well with Foundations since it depends on User Profiles to pass user identity to the workflow.  And yes you can install it on Windows Server datacenter edition.
Here are the supported platforms for installation

This article talks about integration with SharePoint and states that Foundation is not supported, but it doesn't differentiate between the Server editions, so any edition will do.

There are a lot of functionality that are in the "grey area".  For example, SAP BI runs perfectly fine as AS-ABAP only but there are some functionality that require AS-JAVA.  Your best bet is to find out what application / functionality you require from SAP, then research to see if what you are after requires AS-ABAP and/or AS-JAVA.

  • What is an iTunes Server? Why do I need it?

Now I'm far from being phased by techno babble and always happy to dabble with Apps and such like....
But I have a NAS (Linkstation) that I am reliably informed has iTunes Server Capability....Great...
But what is an iTunes Server?
    Why do I need it?
I have a vast selection of Movies and Music stored on the NAS in a variety of folders, it is DLNA compliant so I happily share these with my PS3 and map those folders on my Windows 7 PC.
iTunes runs on my Windows laptop which is used to sync my iPad and iPhone....
So where does the server functionality sit within this enviroment?

Most likely you have a bad sim card.  I recently had a similar experience and had to go to my local AT&T store for help.  They put in a new sim card and all works well now.  Good luck.

  • I need to replace the cable to my 3rd generation iPad, charger to iPad.  The ones currently available seem to have a different end.  Can someone tell me exactly what I need to purchase?

The cable from the power adapter (charger) to my 3rd generation iPad is fraying, but it looks like the available cables now have a different end on them.  Can someone tell me exactly what I need to purchase to replace the cable (adapter too?). I also noticed the power adapters are now 5 or 12 watt, but the one that came with my iPad is a 10 watt.  Is this going to be an issue?

Using stevejobsfan0123's link, searching the Q&A for "length" shows the cable is roughly 2 feet long.

UPDATE: I see an answer further down in the search result that says it's 1 meter long.  I think this is more accurate.

  • Is OS X Server What I Need?

    Hi,
I've a low traffic iWeb site, and a relatively large mailing list, managed through phpList.  I would maybe like to enalrge my website, and inlcude a forum too,a dn am wondering if having my own server is the asnwer.  Currently I'm running into problems with daily email limits, which cause me to schedule emails to go out over  along period of time.
Is OS X Server what I need?  I'm a little unclear when I look at the documentaiton.  For example, I see nothing like and admin center for manging my site and its backend.
    Thanks,
    Inoshi

OS X Server is a Unix server.  Like Unix, Linux, HP-UX, AIX, Solaris and other such services, OS X Server systems can be configured for and can be accessed via remote networking protocols including generic IP networking, via L2TP or PPTP VPN, ARD/VNC, telnet or (better) ssh, and via HTTP/HTTPS web services protocols.  Other configurations are possible.  You could probably even configure and use IPoAC to access the server, if you really wanted to go to the effort involved in that network transport.
Running a server system is inherently more complex than running a client system.  Even OS X Server, which is easier than most other servers around.  You're still expected to know about server computing, IP networking and routing, definitely about setting up and running local DNS, about DHCP, network gateway-firewall-router boxes, network security, VPNs and other such details.  Network clients use services provided by servers, so — if you're running a server — you get to know more about setting up for and running both the server itself, and about the services you're now providing to the client systems.  (I've posted an intro to some of this here.)
Now if you wanted to host your own mail server or your own secured HTTPS web services or related, then you'd want a static IP connection.  (Most ISPs don't allow servers on dynamic, DHCP service tiers, and — for those that do — getting these and related services working involves some hackery, and use of outside relay services.)  This isn't specific to OS X Server, this is a generic IP addressing expectation of the protocols involved, and whether or not your particular ISP has opened or has firewalled the network protocols involved for your particular tier of service.
If you're working with a dynamic IP connection from your ISP, your options are rather more limited, and you and your ISP can be working at cross purposes.

A few months ago I purchased Snow Leopard, but realized too late that I already had Snow Leapord.  What I need is Snow Lion upgrade.  I did not open the software.  Will they refund refund this or exchange it for the Snow Lion upgrade?  Thanks!

All Updates to Snow Leopard are gotten from Software Update or from the Apple download site.
There is no Snow "LION". there is Lion and now Mountain Lion buit both of those are Download Only from the Mac App Store. You need to have Snow Leopard 10.6.6, .7 or .8 to have the Mac Apple store link on your Mac.
To get Lion you need to call the Apple Store, 1-800-MYAPPLE, and order it. They will send you a download code to your Apple ID Email address so you can download it from the Mac Appl Store.
Oh and when you call them to order Lion ask about returning Snow Leopard.

when am trying to restore my iphone it says iphone cannot be activated because activation server cannot be reached what i need to do now?

The servers are getting slammed. Bunch of people trying to download iOS7 at the same time.
There is a chance activation servers might be down/slow for now. Just keep trying throughout the day. Some other forum users are experieincing similar things.
You can also try the apple document for activation issues, but I'd assume its server issues. http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3424

  • Exchange 2013 MB/CAS integration with legacy Exchange 2007 CAS/MB/Trans server

    Hi All,
I have an existing running Exchange 2007 SP3 RU13 server acting as MB,CAS,Transport using a Barracuda SPAM for SMTP (MX Record is assigned to here), and a TMG2010 server performing all ActiveSync, Outlook Anywhere, and OWA connectivity.
I have built a new Exchange 2013 SP1 server that will (for the meantime) act as a MB & CAS server only.
I successfully migrated a testuser mailbox to the new EX2013 server from the EX2007 server.  The problem is that once migrated, OWA and Outlook can't access the mailbox.
OWA form our URL gives the message: Outlook Web Access is currently unavailable. If the problem continues, contact technical support for your organization and tell them the following: No Client Access servers of the appropriate version can be accessed from
    the Internet
If I run OWA from the EX2013 URL it works ok, but not for MBs on the EX2007 server.
I tested this configuration in a VM lab and it worked ok.  All I had to do was move the mailbox, then run Outlook.  Outlook automatically found the new server and opened the MB.
Basically what I need to do is move all our existing MBs from the old 2007 server to the new 2013 server.  I want to continue to use the exisiting transport/CAS/EDGE services on 2007 without having to rebuild both the internal and external comunications
    infrastructure at the present time.
How can I get the EX2013 server to act as the MB server for the EX2007 communications infrastructure?

    Hi,
Please try to create a new user on Exchange 2013, and send/receive email via both Outlook and OWA to test whether the Exchange 2013 mail flow well.
If Exchange 2013 works well, please try to bypass the TMG on Exchange 2007 for a little while for testing.
Additionally, we can use CAS 2013 URL to proxy/redirect previous CAS, or publish both CAS 2007 and CAS 2013 to be internet facing server with separate URLs, as Ed suggested.
    Thanks
