Before installing a new drive - it is generally better to install it in a external usb enclosure and connect it to your Macbook so you can format/erase the new drive and make an exact clone of the drive you wish to install, unless you plan on doing a clean install.

  • New logic board - brings all new problems

I bought my rMBP in July 2012 and started having graphics-related kernel panics almost immediately. They seemed to come only so often, sometimes going a month or more between panics, so I never wanted to have Apple fix it because I didn’t want to be without it for a few days. Then, about ten days ago, the kernel panics started coming like crazy, all with the “NVRM read error” message, and three NVIDIA-related kernels listed in backtrace everytime. I had no 3rd-party extensions at any point. The evening of the kernel panic parade, I was suddenly unable to boot, even into safe mode. Or so I thought – it wasn’t that the machine wasn’t booting, it was shutting the display off shortly after the login screen, which I discovered by accidentally bumping the volume button. I could not get the display to work no matter what I tried, including connecting to an external monitor. I could, however, remote into the machine using screen sharing and see the desktop as usual.
I printed a couple of the panic logs, made an appointment at the genius bar, and took the machine in. The guy at the genius bar said he was one of the two actual techs they have, and he wasn’t going to mess with it in the store, thinking my guess of a bad main logic board was probably on target. They sent it to the depot, which replaced the main logic board, and it arrived back in the store on the 2nd business day, which was excellent.
They said they tested it extensively and all appeared to be working correctly. I haven’t had a single NVRM panic since, but now I’m having a bunch of other and different kernel panics – new kinds that I never had with my old main logic board. This happens even in safe boot. They all say this at the top of the log:
    Fri May 10 11:19:26 2013
    panic(cpu 7 caller 0xffffff8007eb7e95): Kernel trap

    Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
I realize this likely ends with me taking this back to the genius bar, but I’m traveling until Tuesday so I figured I’d check with the community first.

Yes take it back. The only other thing to try is a clean install of os x. If you still get panics with a fresh clean install then it is back to the genius bar for more work on that system.

  • Can I exchange my MacBook for a new one?

Ok, so my Dad bought a MacBook for me yesterday, and he wants it now. But he doesn't want mine, he wants a new one. He wants to exchange my one-day old MacBook for a new MacBook that is exactly like mine, cept still in the box. Is this possible? Or would I just have to return mine and buy a new one?

In the United States, you can return your new computer (as long as it was not custom-configured at the factory) for a refund for any reason up to 14 calendar days from the purchase date. Apple will charge yo a 10% restocking fee for doing this. If your computer was purchased online and custom configured (added RAM, a larger hard drive or pre-installed software), then you cannot return it for a simple refund. You can find the complete sales policies here:

How can I complain for the problematic iPhone shape. I mean the shape of the iPhone is not fine. I asked the apple store in my country but they said they did not provide for exchanging new device. Please help, where can I exchange it with the new one?

Can I exchange my iPad for another one with retina display with extra payment?

Did you purchase it at an Apple Store?  If so, then you should be able ot have them look up the receipt in their system.  If you purchased it at another store, check their policies.  IIRC, Best Buy allows you to exchange items without a reciept, but they won't refund without one.  Other stores may have other policies.

  • How to exchange used iphone for a new one?

    Good morning,
I have two iphones 1st generation and one from the 3rd generation, so I would like to know how much it cost to do the exchange.

Apple does not have any exchange program.  You can sell them online to a buy-back comapny like gazelle.com, use the Apple recycle program (if available where you are) for store credit, or sell it yourself.
But to actually get the new one in your hands, you will have to buy one.

  • Would you exchange this iphone for a new one?

Having some issues and seriously considering exchanging my new 32GB 3GS for a 16GB version. I have 2 weeks left in my trial period. My only fear is that I get one that is even worse.
Are these concerns major enough to do the switch?
    CURRENT CONS:
    1) Keyboard is sometimes unresponsive for a few seconds...occasionally pauses during texting/emailing and then spits out several letters all at once
    2) Occasionally receiving duplicate emails of everything....also, every so often it says my username/password are incorrect
    3) I notice that applications sometimes open accidentally/randomly?
    4) Soft earpiece volume (symptom of the 3GS itself?)
    CURRENT PRO's:
    1) Battery life seems pretty decent, compared to some of the horror stories I am reading about on here
    2) Haven't dropped a call yet (over 2 week trial period), though one caller said they couldn't hear me very well
    Thoughts? Thanks....

It could be a defective iPhone upon receiving. It could be application glitches and may be resolved by a restore or Clean Restore. If you used a backup from a 3G to 3GS there have been known issues from this. It could be some 2.2.1 to 3.0 applications you downloaded and there are many issues from that as well.
It's better to delete all your applications and redownload them through the iTunes PC and have no applications on the iPhone and reinstall them from a clean installation.
    2) Occasionally receiving duplicate emails of everything....also, every so often it says my username/password are incorrect
As the previous poster have said, it could be more than one email account or an incorrect setup of your e-mail account which I recommend deleting all your email accounts and add them again.
    3) I notice that applications sometimes open accidentally/randomly?
It could be a 3GS software glitch or an application glitch. It could be the application when installed by the computer or downloaded directly to the 3GS model was installed incorrectly or poorly programmed. You could try uninstalling that application or all applications and reinstall them all. Sometimes a Clean Restore helps.
    4) Soft earpiece volume (symptom of the 3GS itself?)
Could be a defective headset and you have 30 days to replace the headset with a new one. Another flaw is if you twisted it around or it got knotted up, it can damage the wires and make them useless. After 30 days (unless AT&T has changed their purchase policy) you pay $30 for a new one but I think they only serve the original 3G headsets and not the 3GS headsets for replacements.
    1) Battery life seems pretty decent, compared to some of the horror stories I am reading about on here
As far as this goes, the battery life varies between usage of applications actually. If you spend a good amount of time playing an High Definition game like Star Defense or an Internet High Definition game like Aurora Feint II: Arena Daemons (Don't get the Beginning one. That one *****.), that would definitlely speed drain your iPhone.
    2) Haven't dropped a call yet (over 2 week trial period), though one caller said they couldn't hear me very well
It could be a tower you are associating with at a call that needs to be reported as an issue. There have been a few towers I reported a while back in my area along DC and Northern Virginia that constantly have calling issues (well data for me the most part) and they may fix it.

  • I can't access safari after exchanging faulty phone for a new one today

I have just had my first iphone exchanged today at the apple store for a new one - faulty microphone.  They started it all up for me, and I came home and synced all my apps etc.  But i found that they weren't downloading and I couldn't access safari and therefore couldn't open up gmail etc.  So I decided to restore my iphone to original settings.  That has helped with being able to download all my apps but I still can't access safari.  I'm not sure what to do now.  And feel that I will have to return to town and get it sorted out, unless someone can help me here.

Is the Safari icon there? If it isn't, check your Restrictions in Settings<General<Restrictions. Safari may have been turned off.
If it is there, what is happening when you connect to the internet? You may want to reset your network settings in Settings<General<Reset<Network Settings

The port placement is completely different on a 2010 model and a 2011 model, so the user wouldn't be able to replace it at all.

  • Can we replace an old serial board with a new one found available on your site?

So.. we are using Lookout 5.0 to operate a plant, and we have a PCI SERIAL RS 232/485 ISOLATED 2 PORTS board, with the code 185726C-02 printed on that board, which is used to comunicate with some solenoids modules. I search your site for a replacement for that board, and I found the PCI-8433/2 board which seems to be compatible. Question: is it ok to use this board instead the old one with Lookout 5 if we update the NI SERIAL drivers from your site?
    Thanks in advance ..

  • Exchange logic board

I've got a power book G4 alu 1,67 bought in July 2005 whose logic board died 3 months ago. I heard that some logic boards had a defect and could be changed free by APPLE, but I do not find this information on the site.
    Could you help me ?

    Neug

    Hi Neug,
    Welcome to the forum.
As sig suggests, the only people who can directly answer your question is Apple themselves. These are purely user-to-user technical/usage assistance forums.
That said, there is an extended warranty program for 15" PowerBooks that exhibit certain symptoms and fall within certain serial number parameters. More details can be found here:
About the PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.67/1.5GHz) Memory Slot Repair Extension Program
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303173
I suspect this is the program you heard about. Does it apply to your situation? If your serial number falls within those covered then call Apple and ask.

  • My macbook pro charger does not work!! I have extended warranty/Guarantee from the store, do they exchange or give me a new one?

    Hi,
There is a problem with my MacBook Pro Charger. It was working for a few months, but then it just doesnt work. My laptop doesnt charge!!
I have an extended guarantee from the store, i got my laptop, does it apply Warrantee/Guarantee? There is no problem with my laptop, cause it charges all fine with my wife's charger!
    Thanks

In as much as we here are not the store the best thing to do is bring it back and have them give you a new one. You should be most certainly covered under warranty. (As long as your dog didn't eat it).

I am wondering about a logic board that will ding when there is no ram in it and will not when ram is put in it. There has been several sticks of good ram tried in the logic board with no luck. What is the problem?

    I found the answer.
