Exclaimation point! Help!

The other day I opened my iTunes and every single song had an exclamation point next to it. I went to my iTunes folder and dragged and dropped it into my library. This made duplicates of every song. The new ones did not have an exclaimation point next to it. I deleted all the songs with the exclaimation point and left the ones without it. After doing that I went to play some music and each song that I clicked on would get a message saying "The Song "_____" could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" So I cleared out my whole iTunes to start from scratch. I dragged and dropped and clicked to play. same thing happened. Help! I dont know what to do!

The simplest fix I found was to make sure that all of my music was in the correct file and erase the text fil that said "Itunes library". Help: Iphoto 6 photos missing, gray box with exclaimation point

Hi all. I am a terrible manager of my 14K photos. My husband said my system could not process updates because I have so little hard drive space, so I went on this massive effort to purge photos I did not need. I thought I was being virtous by going to the pictures folder from finder, finding the album, and deleting there, but now I have learned that I actually need to delete from the iphoto library. Now, when I go into i photo, there are a lot of big empty gray boxes with an exclaimation point, including for photos I know I did not delete (I can still see the thumbnail in some cases). I am using i photo 6 and would hate to lose these pictures. We have an external hard drive and I was in the process of moving some of the files and videos. Can someone help? I am also wondering what the best way to clean up my library is. Thanks in advance for anyone who can help! I live abroad and so can't go into an Apple store for help. Thanks!

That's an indicagtion the the file path to the original image files has been broken. Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Exclaimation point

It started when itunes refused to recognize my ipod when i connected it to the computer, however, the windows still recognized it. In the process of following all the the self-help apple provides, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the original cd, uninstalled that, then downloaded the newest version of itunes, and downloaded the latest (2006) update. However, in this process of installing the itunes, i was unable to format the ipod (which I figured was b/c I already had it formatted), and the exclaimation point/file appeared on the screen. Now, neither Windows or itunes recognizes the ipod, and the reset fix wont work. Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated

Exclaimation point icon appearing next to a song on iTunes...

I have iTunes on Windows, and a couple of days ago I put a bunch of songs from CDs onto my iTunes. Just now, a few days later, the exclaimation point icon is popping up next to songs and the songs won't play. This is only happening with the songs I got from the CDs. It keeps showing up on more in more songs periodically. Please help...I miss these songs!!!

It means that the songs have either ben deleted from the computer or moved outside of the iTunes music folder. Either way, iTunes cannot locate them.
Have a look for them.
On the Start menu, click Search.
Click All Files and folders.
In the "All or part of the file name" field, type a songs name and then click Search.
If you see the files you are looking for in the Search Results window, you can add them back into your iTunes library.

Almost all the songs have exclaimation points, and some won't sync

Almost of the songs in my iTunes library have exclaimation points next to them and I can't listen to them. Then, I added new songs to my library and sync-ed my iPod, but the library has 327 songs, and my iPod only has 290. Can anybody help?

The exclamation point means that itunes has lost track of your music files.
Did you try moving or deleting some files from your computer?
check the my music/itunes folder and see if the music files are there.
If so, you can open itunes and click on file>add folder to library
navigate to your itunes music folder, select it and click ok
This will re-associate your music files back to the the itunes database.

My ipod goes from the apple screen to a folder with an exclaimation point??

MY ipod turns on to the screen with the apple and then makes some clicking noises and goes to a screen with a folder and an exclaimation point and then turns off!!! HELP?! How do I get my ipod to turn on!?!? I have tried restarting it already...

If they don't work and it continues to make strange noises then return it as it is probably a more serious fault than you can fix youirself

Folder with Exclaimation Point Error AND Ipod cannot connect to itunes

I left my Ipod in my truck (cold out) for about a week, using it about every other day (always seemed to work fine)... then all of the sudden I went to turn it on and after the Apple icon, I get an error in the form of a picture of a folder with an exclaimation point. When I try to plug my ipod into my computer (to perhaps restore the settings or something) my computer recognizes the USB device, the ipod screen says "do not disconnect" and then shortly after, without it connecting to itunes, it disconnects itself and goes back to the apple screen. Any Ideas? The Apple instructions for dealing with this havn't worked.
My Ipod is I believe a "second generation"(?). It is a 20-gig ipod with a click wheel, about 2 years old now.

For Window computer
Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked

C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"

Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Itunes shows exclaimation point

Can someone please tell me how I can access a song that has been purchased, shows up in my library but has an exclaimation point beside it. When I click on the song a window comes up saying that the file could not be found. Ironically, it is on all the maroon 5 songs.

In itunes, do a file > get info. It will say it can't be found and ask you to find it on your hard drive. Browse to where the song file is located.
Did you move folders around on your hard drive using Win Explorer? That could cause this problem.

Exclaimation point beside song titles of ipod library!

recently my ipod will not play any of the songs on it, and if i try to play those songs using itunes, an exclaimation point shows up beside the song title... what does this mean?

I have always been able to play the songs from off my ipod using itunes. I have taken all my song files from off of my computer and onto an external hard drive, but this was some time ago and i have never had a problem... i manage all my music manually so my ipod has never tried to automatically update based on the few songs that i do keep on my computer...

IPhoto - Exclaimation Point!

I have thumbnail photos in my I photo Library...when I click on some of the thumbnails...they open slightly and then go dark with a big exclaimation point instead of the picture. What does this mean?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Run the three fixes below in order as needed (make a backup copy of the library before starting just in case):
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all options.
2 - rebuild the library using iPhoto Library Manager as follows:

1 -Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 -Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos.
3 - start over with a new library and import the Originals folder from your original library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1. Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
2. Open the library package like this.
3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4. Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.

Surprise Surprise Another Exclaimation Point Post!

lol Hi All. Both my father and I own iPods (mine is a third gen, his is a fourth gen U2 edition). This morning he woke me up due to the horror of the folder with the exclaimation point icon after attempting to use his iPod on his windows pc (his is the windows edition of course).
Having had this happen to myself once or twice in the past I knew what to do and claimly set to work testing the device. Ran through all the to do list before coming to this board. Nothing seems to work. His iPod is no longer being registered by his computer (or any of the other 4 I tired, one being a Mac). I can not restore the software on the device because none of the computers recognize it.
Is it time to bite the bullet and send it back or does anyone have any hints or suggestions as to how to go about fixing this?

I'm waiting for my U2 iPod to be returned from Apple for exactly the same problem.
Send it in quick before it runs out of warranty, the U2 iPod is almost a year old!

What Does an Icon of a Folder and an Exclaimation Point Mean?

The screen on my 3rd generation iPod has an icon of a folder and an exclaimation point on it.
Obviously this is not a good sign but what does it mean exactly?

Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.

Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.

Just upgraded to lion - now my photos are just exclaimation points

This is depressing...
I upgraded to lion yesterday and now I find that I cannot see my photos. If I look at them as events they appear to be there. If I attempt to view them full (double click on the image in the event) I get a exclaimation point in place of the photo. If I attempt to view them fullscreen (slideshow display) I see a black panel.
Not at all the behavior I expected from the latest and greatest.

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Best option: Just restore from your back up. You made one before upgrading, right?
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

N97 OTA access point help

hi all, got a probem here that seems to been doin my head in over the last few days. basically i bought a brand new locked to tmobile N97, im a virgin customer.. now, i'm wanting to do a firmware upgrade.. due to having an old **bleep** laptop that only has 248mb of ram i cant d the upgrade via nokia pc suite so my only other option is OTA.. right, so, i dial *#0000# then go to options, then check for updates... up pops a message saying a need to define an access point, ok.. not understanding it much i try and manually add some stuff myself, to no avail... then i do some forum posting and manage to get these settings: Server Name Nokia Server ID Nokia Server password firmupservpass Access point [select your preferred AP] Host address https://dms.update.nokia.com/dms/omadm Port 443 User name nokiams DM password nokiamspass Allow configuration Yes Auto accept all requests Yes but... that hasnt solved my problem, when entered and i try to connect to do the upgrade i get a connection error. my only option is this forum, its a nokia fone and a nokia forum i cant get my head round it as i can use the internet n my fone brilliantly, surely the internet and the OTA access point are the same thing?

To add an access point select settings-connectivity-destinations-Access point , Automatically search for available access points ?, select yes and choose access point. Then go into Internet and set the priorities to WLAN number 1 T-Mobile number 2 etc

PS Nokia Software Updater should still work on computer, even with low memory or weak internet , just a bit slower.
