Exclamation Mark Icon on Mail

I have used Mail for years and never had a problem until I upgraded to a MacBook this year and joined Mobile Me. Now Mail shows the exclamation mark icon several times a day, and I have to force quit it and reopen it to get new emails. Sometimes emails don't send and I end up with half the document in Draft. I have a DSL connection through Qwest, which I have also had for several years, and am wireless with an Airport.

And my ipod touch can access mail again now too. Thanks for your response!
Your welcome, Ruby. And you can blame MobileMe for the cause of it too. I'm just glad I waited until they *MADE ME* use @me.com but now I still have the @mac.com as well. Just make sure that the incoming mail server is "mail.mac.com" & the outgoing mail server is "smtp.me.com".
Why-O-Why can't they just keep it simple like the good old day's? The hard they make it, the easier it is to break it.

  • Can't get rid of the folder and exclamation mark icon

i got given a new ipod nano (1st generation) to replace my old ipod mini, i installed the new software but got the folder and exclamation mark icon, i removed all itunes and quicktime software just in case it had anything to do with an old version of something and reinstalled the software...still got the icon. then i installed the updater from the website but still can't get rid of the icon...any advice? please help!
ipod nano (first generation)   Windows XP

Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iTunes 7.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

  • Exclamation Mark or Apple Sign all I can get

Please help! My iPod froze and now when I try to turn it on, all I see are the Apple sign alternated with the Folder with an exclamation mark icon. I have tried to reset the iPod by pressing the Menu and the Play/Pause button. I have also tried to reset it by pressing the Menu and the Select button (I have a third generation iPod about 2.5 years old). It hasn't worked, any other ideas please?

    See these.
iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation point after disconnecting.
iPod shows a folder icon with exclamation point when you turn it on.
    See also.
iPod shows only an Apple logo and doesn't start up.
Only the Apple logo appears when turned on.
How to reset the iPod if it appears frozen or doesn't respond.

  • I get an error message when I try to use share function on IPhoto. I get the triangle icon with an exclamation mark inside of it.

I get an error message when I try to use the share function on iPhoto. When I try to share photos via email a triangle icon with an exclamation mark appears. Why can't I use share function?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Query Results - failed with exclamation mark on icon

    Hi there,
When I run a select query I now get an exclamation mark on the green arrow icon in the Query Results.  I've been able to run this query before and no changes have been made.
In the Query Results window if I click the 'reload' icon (two blue arrows) the Output results flash up and then clear.

Closing/reopening SQL Developer doesn't help.  I've restarted my PC and the results do appear, but then the same error appears again.
Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi Jon_Male,
    A couple of points:
    1. Your release is a bit out-of-date, plus it seems to be an early adopter release rather than the 3.0 production release (3.0.04.34).
    2. The following old forum post discusses the same behavior occurring after an OutOfMemory error: exclamation mark on script output tab

  • Question mark over the Mail icon

What can I do if there is a question mark over the mail icon in dock... I can't open the Mail now. Thanks!

you can reinstall Mail using the leopard install DVD. insert the DVD and open it in finder. among other things you should see a folder called "optional installs". Open it and double-click on Optional Installs.mpkg. Follow the instructions. at the appropriate page you'll have to check the box for "Mail" on the list of software you want to install.
This will install Mail 3.0. To update it to the latest version of mail reinstall

  • Mail Alert with Triangle Exclamation Mark with iMap - Too Many Connections?

I have one Laptop (Macbook mid-07) on Leopard 10.5.6 and a Macbook Pro 09 on Leopard 10.5.8. I just switched over to iMap where I have two email accounts set up on both laptops. Both laptops have identical accounts set up on them.
I'm currently geting the triangle with the exclamation mark alert on the inboxes of both accounts when both laptops have Apple Mail open. Is this an issue with Apple Mail or my Service Provider possibly complaining that I have too many connections? I don't get these alerts when only one laptop has the Mail App open. The alert reads:
    Alert
There may be a problem with the mail server or the network. Check the settings for the account "IMAP" or try again.
The server error encountered was: The attempt to read data from the server "mail.mydomain.com" failed.
However, Mail seems to send and receive okay with the alerts popping up and so I'm not sure if this alert is anything to be serioulsy concerned about. Or, is there a way to fix this?

I set mail to fetch messages every 15 minutes where I delayed one laptop in opening up mail initially by 5 minutes. That way, both laptops are not fetching mail concurrently and there's a gap of time for them to download mail before the other starts. This seemed to have fix this alert issue and I'm no longer getting these messages.
Although, 15 minutes seems to be a bit long for auto fetching since my email can be under some time constraints. Does anyone know how to set the time to check every 10 minutes which I can probably live with? Currently, I have the option to set for 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, or manually.

  • Duplicates with "iCloud icon w/ exclamation mark"

    What I did:
I have an iTunes library on my MacBook Pro and another on my home iMac. I ran iTunes Match on the MacBook Pro and re-downloaded all songs from iTunes so I can be sure I have the best quality files in my library. All works fine on the MacBook Pro.
Then I turned to iTunes on the iMac at home. Have most of my songs in an almost identical iTuns library on the iMac too. Since I activated iTunes Match on the MacBook Pro I also find the iTunes Match option in iTunes on my iMac. Great! I run iTunes Match on the iMac with the following result:
Number of songs on the iMac almost doubled. Searching for duplicates in iTunes revealed that most songs are now twice in my iTunes library: one as 256 kBit/s version and another as a "256kBit/s (VBR)". All of the latter ones with an iCloud symbol with an exclamation mark, telling me that the object was not added to iCloud due to a problem. All of the other songs do not show any symbol in the iCloud column.
What shall I do now? Can I simply delete all songs with the iCloud/exclamation mark symbol without danger of deleting any files from my library? How about all the songs that do not show any iCloud symbol? Have they actually synced with iCloud?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Don't worry about others asking the same question, that's fine!
Try these helpful articles/posts about the folder with exclamation point, and a "sad iPod". I suggest reading all three links, because the "sad iPod" is similar to the folder with exclamation point:
iPod displays a folder icon with an exclamation point
    iPod displays sad iPod icon
Exclamation point and folder and nothing else
For right now, I wouldn't suggest restoring it. It could possibly create a situation of the iPod displaying that 3 gig has already been used when all the songsjust got wiped off by the restore.
On the other hand, if you've tried the above, I suggest doing the following:
Here's something that worked for lots of people on here, and even an Apple staff told someone this once.
Pick up your iPod, stand over a surface that’s not hard (like carpeted), hold the iPod vertically and so that the bottom (play/pause side) faces the ground, and drop it.
This will jerk your iPod’s inner disk “back to life”. I know it might sound silly, but it works for people with similar problems. That’s because you’re probably having a problem with the inner disk. So, give it a try!
    Hope this answers the question!

  • Help! Folder icon with exclamation mark!

Hello. I turned my iPod Nano on and all I got was a folder
icon and an exclamation mark! How do I get this off? The
    computer wont recognize it!

I had the same problem on my Nano last week. I also had it a couple of weeks after it first came out and had to send it back to be repaired - useless idiots took 2 months and they didn't even know where my iPod was so they just sent me a new one.
    Anyway....
I tried doing the restore factory settings with the updater but it didn't work, i got "firmware update failure. Disk write error". Faffed about with it for ages and then decided to format using Windows which then allowed the iPod updater to work and restore the factory settings.
    All sorted now!!!

  • Exclamation Mark On Printer Icon

Every time I print from my iMac to my HP Photosmart 5510 printer, an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle appears on the printer icon in my Dock, like this:
    What does this mean?
The "Now Printing" window that pops up on my screen looks like this, again with an exclamation mark over the printer's icon:

    Hi Barry,
The HP Photosmart 5510 is a new printer that came out this month (September 2011). The most recent HP Printer Software Update that Apple released via System Preferences>Software Update is version 2.7, which came out in early August 2011.
So, the drivers for the Photosmart 5510 aren't available in Apple's HP Printer Software Update, yet.
I had to download the drivers manually from HP's website, and install them myself. So yes, my software is up-to-date, but it's straight from HP, and not via Apple. I'm currently running Snow Leopard, but the same exclamation mark problem exists in Lion.

  • Exclamation Mark on wireless icon

    Hi,
I have a MacBook 5,2 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 Ghz 2GB Memory running snow leopard. I connect to my personal wireless at home and a wireless at my university campus (set-up on campus).
Since my upgrade to snow leopard I have had no issues at home however on campus the wireless icon shows an exclamation mark with a message on the drop down menu "alert: no internet connection". this happens on my university campus only (at least so far). The strange thing is the internet is working and I can browse/download etc. I have contacted the IT department on campus and they have said the issue has only started with people with snow leopard and have no idea. To clarify, the internet is working but I am being told it is not (on campus only, not the case at home). It is not a huge issue as I can access the internet but the exclamation mark is driving me crazy and cannot find a solution.
Any ideas? anyone else encountered this issue? Thanks for your help!

We too have similar problems. I have an older macbook with leopard and it's fine - but a new MBPro with snow leopard has all these problems.
I was prompted to respond here in particular because when we tried to wirelessly connect the MBPro to my home router (it worked for about 30 seconds initially - internet connection as well, but then died) it not only doesn't work (and shows the exclamation mark) but it hangs the router - ie: the old macbook loses connection as well. The only fix here is to restart the router.
This result is completely repeatable. Now (because we successfully connected for a few seconds with the correct wep password) all we have to do is open the lid of the MBPro and my old trusty macbook stops working as well!! (I can't ping the router at this stage either) Power cycle router and comes good again (having turned off airport on the MBPro).
Now, at a different location our BT broadband has gone pear-shaped (almost brand new homehub looks as if it might have died) one wonders if the MBPro is suspect again..
I do hope an OS update will fix this annoyance.

  • Ipod nano shows icon of folder with exclamation mark on start nd then shuts

i just got a new ipod nano i tried to start it after charging it but it shows me an icon of a folder with an exclamation mark and then shuts off.can nybody pls tell me how to d the entire setup from the start to end please

All i can suggest is that you try and restore it on another computer (maybe a PC) and see if it fixes the problem. I am a service technician and I've done pretty much all the things you've tried on a iPod Video and still had to replace it so it looks like that'll be what you need to do.
