Exclamation points to the extreme.

My internal hard drive crash last week and I replaced it with a new one. I have most of my music on my iPod (an additional 40 gb not on my iPod but somewhere on an external that I can locate later.) Anyway, I transferred over the music from my iPod into a desktop folder, and then into my iTunes. And then I did something crazy. In an attempt to get back my playlists and playcounts, I overwrote the new iTunes database .xml and .tl files with the ones I'd saved from my crashed hard drive. I have all my playcounts and playlists back except--I have about 15,000 exclamation points next to the songs. I was under the impression iTunes would automatically relocate all the songs in a folder if I just chose a few, but it's not recognizing more than one at a time and is making me do every individual song. I'm noticing that most (but not all) of the missing songs are labeled in the finder by the four letter iPod tags (like, ABDF.mp3), and when I drag them into iTunes, they take back on the correct name and artist. I'm not sure if they were always the four letter tags from the moment I took it from my iPod, or if that happened only when I overwrote the database file.
I've been going for hours and I've only just started on the Cs. After finding no answers on Google about my very daunting situation, I've decided it's probably worth it to ask and see if anyone has any recommendations of something to do. I'm realizing at this point I've done something wrong to get my playlists and playcounts back. So maybe my main question is--what was the right way to do this so maybe I can start back over? And is there anything I can do now to salvage what I've already started?
I'm using an iPod classic and a 2010 MacBook Pro. The original iTunes  files were from whatever software I had originally purchased the Mac with in 2010. Now I have Mavericks if that makes any sort of difference.
Thanks!

After a lot of try and error I found the problem. At least part of it.
My MBAM 2.5 SSRS was in another server as an instance.
Just make sure the Service Account for the Instance is configured as Local Service and not the mbamapppool account. After changing this everything is back to normal.

  • I am having trouble viewing some of my pictures on iPhoto. A triangle with an exclamation point in the middle pops up instead, what can I do to get my pictures to show again?

I am having a hard time viewing some of my pictures or event file in my iPhoto library. Most of my pictures look blank with a black background and a triangle with an exclamation point in the center of the screen. Is there a way I can fix this issue?

Are they RAW image files and not JPG files? iPhoto does not support all types of RAW files. Get a Real Image Viewing/Editing/Cataloging program which iPhoto is not.

My macbook air will not connect to the internet. There is an exclamation point in the wifi icon and when i go into preferences i see that it is setting its own IP address. I have a macbookpro that is able to connect with no issue. HELP

Reset the TC to factory and start again.
Use all SMB type names for wireless and base station.. Not apple type names.. this is more important since Mavericks.
I also recommend different names for the different bands.
    So for example.
TC name.. TCgenx (I use whatever the generation number is for the x.. eg TCgen4 or latest one TCgen5)
    WIreless name.. TC24ghz for 2.4ghz
    TC5ghz for 5ghz
You can also set the channel manually.
If you still have issues.. start with no security and then if it fails to connect there is something seriously wrong with the laptop. Did you upgrade install Mavericks?? That can lead to driver issues.. I would recommend a clean install.

  • The iTunes notifier (exclamation point at the farthest left)

The iTunes notifier (exclamation point at the farthest left)of the iTunes interface...that indicates a broken string...What is it called (so I can find faqs about them)? And most importantly, how can I remove ALL of the hundreds that have grown there other than one by one??
The exclamation point does not show until I try to play the tue...so I don't know which tunes will play until I try to use them.
    Can anybody help with this?

I don't know of a direct way to do this, but there is a very talented person on these boards who writes scripts for these things. (Unfortunately my link to his pot of gold is broken---google stepped in and squashed him! HMMMMM!)
Anyway, I have this link left:
    http://ottodestruct.com/blog/2005/10/20/itunes-javascripts/
Please note these two links, esp.:
Finds dead tracks in your library and makes a list of them: http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/FindDeadTracks.txt
Removes dead tracks from your library (this one was actually written by Apple originally, I’m just including it for completeness): http://ottodestruct.com/itunes/RemoveDeadTracks.txt
Please know that I have never tried any of these things--so I am in no way endorsing them! I truly don't know if they work! It's up to you to test the waters!
    Good Luck!

  • I have iPhoto 09 The cover of my book is cropped is perfect on screen but when I print it out it's cropped badly. There is a red exclamation point on the screen image but I have created 5 books and never had this problem. HELP

I am using iPhoto 9 to make a book. The cover of my new book looks perfect on screen, but when print it out before I have it published the cropping is all off. There is also a red exclamation point on the cover image. I have checked and rechecked but to no avail. Can you help? Bill Perlmutter

That red exclamation point can mean either that the image on the cover is below the resolution limit that Apple has set for photos to make good prints or that there is missing text in a text box or there's some text that has overflowed the text box.
The resolution limit that is set in iPhoto for photos is 110 dpi, i.e. the PrintWarningImageDPI value in this screenshot of iPhoto's preference file:
It's not an absolute thing.  Many have reported getting books that had photos with the low resolution warning indicator and it was perfectly satisfactory.
But check to see if it's an image or text warning.

  • Need to put an exclamation point at the start of each cell in a long column

    Hello
I'm new to spreadsheets and need to do this task asap. Hope someone can tell me how to do it.
I could go down the column and type an exclamation in before each number, but for 400 cells but I'd rather not.
    Thanks for any help
    Dave L

If these "numbers" are to be used in formulas, though, you'll have to do this a different way. You will create a custom format that puts an exclamation point in front of the numbers as you see them on the screen but doesn't actually change the contents of the cells (so they remain as numbers).
Go to the cell inspector (the "42" tab in the inspector).
Click on "Cell Format" and choose "Custom".
Type an exclamation point at the left of the existing format. To do this, click on the existing format, hit the left arrow, then type the exclamation point. You may also want to add in a "decimals" format on the right if your numbers are not whole numbers. Give the format a name. Click "OK".
Choose the rest of your column and apply the cell format to it (select the entire column, go into the cell inspector, and choose whatever you named the format you made).

  • When i enlarge photo (on some of my pictures) it quickly changes to a triangle with an exclamation point in the middle - how do I correct this problem?

It started a few days ago.  I was looking through my photos.  I could check them when they were smaller - as soon as I enlarged them - screen turned black, a grey triangle with an exclamation point appeared in the middle.  It is not changing every picture - just some.  How do I get rid of this problem?  What caused this in the first place?  Any help would be appreciated.

    Try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

  • TS1424 When I click to play my songs in the library they will not play and show a circle with an exclamation point in the middle of it, what does that mean and how can I get them to play?

When I click to pay my songs in the library they will not play and it shows a circle with an exclamation point within it. What does that mean, how do I fix it, and how will it play my songs again? They used to play before on my Iphone4 with no problem, but since I upgraded to the Iphone4s there is an issue.

I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

  • My iTunes Library is giving me duplicate songs. One has an exclamation point in the cloud and the other has the arrow in the cloud for download. Some songs don't have anything which means they play fine. It's burned CD's and purchases from Itunes.

All CD's that I burned for my library have an iCloud icon with an explanation point next to the song. If I right click it prompts me that 'This Item was not added to the iCloud because an error occurred. Some of my purchases have no cloud icon next to them at all and they play fine. Numerous purchases have 2 of the same songs listed..one has the cloud with the explanation point and the other has the cloud with a down arrow for downloading from the cloud. What I am having to do is delete the ones with the explanation point and then download the one with the arrow. It's taking forever. Then I still have to go back and re-burn my CD's and then back them up in iTunes Match. Any ideas of what's going on? and how to get this all done faster? Getting really frustrated!
    Thanks

i noticed this as a bug in iTunes. make sure the correct file is selected in the preferences menus. It does not have to be the default location directiory as Vazandrew stated. your iTunes music library can be anywhere you want it. i have mine on an external cuz i'm a dj and have over 80,000 songs.
once you select/verify the location of your music library, simply drag the folder into the left panel in iTunes from a finder window. iTunes does not automatically add the items like it use to for some reason.

  • When I click on almost any picture, in any album, to enlarge it, the pic starts to enlarge and then all I get is a black screen with a large exclamation point in the center.  What have I done to my iPhoto program, and how do I fix it?

Recently, whenever I click on almost any of my pictures, in any album, in order to enlarge that photo, it starts to enlarge but then,
very quickly I get a black screen with a large white exclamation mark in the middle.  And no full sized photo. Boo!
What did I do to my iPhoto program, and how can I fix it?
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Mike H.

I'm sorry.  Too old to understand this stuff.  I'm sure this seems real stupid to you.  But I have no idea how one
would "right click on the Original iPhoto Library" (I know, I know, 'as stated").
Do I right click on the symbol in the dock??  Or open it first and then, . .  I can't find a way to right click on the word iPhoto in the top bar.
Or should I open the program you had me download.  There I can find something called "original iPhoto library".
When I "right click" on that I get some options.  None of them are "original folders".  There's "reveal library in finder", and "dupilicate library and "sort libraries".  I have no idea if any of these are what you want, or if any of these might change something.
When I clicked on "reveal library in finder" earlier on it showed me the copy of the photo library that I made a while ago, sitting right where I know it is on my desktop.  And if I click on that symbol it shows me all the pictures again.  Just like in my regular iPhoto files - all the thumbs are there, but most can't be opened to full sized.
Are we making progress here?  I'm sure this is frustrating to you.  This is just pictures of family.  Even the thumbs are nice to look at.  But this is nothing critical - like work related or anything.
    Thanks.
    Mike

  • What is the red exclamation point in the top icon bar?

I assume it's bad and it won't go away.
I have tried restarting and removing/adding my google account.
    (LG G3)

I don't actually know how to take a screenshot on my phone, but I found this from the Sprint LG G3 user guide.
It appears in the extreme upper left corner of the screen.
    The guide says:
Problem With Sign-In Or Sync – There has been an issue with your connection to the Google server, or you were not properly signed into your account. In order to use Google application or sync features, you must set up and sign into an active Google Account.
