Exclude chm from Search
Is there a way to exclude a chm file from the Search? The chm
file in question must be in the same folder as the master chm.
However, it is not in the merge files section (not a child of the
master).
Hi ghostwriter62
With .CHM files, search only works inside the .CHM you have
open. So if the .CHM hasn't been included as part of a merged
setup, its contents aren't (or I suppose I should say "shouldn't")
be factored into the mix.

Unused styles & exclude popups from search
Hello there
I have inherited various large projects in RoboHelp and
1. have been asked to tidy up the CSS as we have hundred of
styles and only a few are being used. Is there a report I could run
on RoboHelp (I am using RH for HTML version X5.02) or another easy
way of doing this?
2. On the compiled help file, when you search for some
keywords, the popup topics get returned as well. Is there a way of
excluding them from the search functionality on the CHM?
Thanks in advance for any input.Hi Marie-Claire.
There is no report you can run on the CSS file in RH but it
is dead easy to remove styles. Just open up the .CSS file in the
Project tab, highlight the style and click "Delete". You do have to
be sure that the style is not being used though if you are to avoid
getting into a mess. There are also a few .CSS editors out there -
some freeware - that can be used.
TopStyle Lite is one
I've used in the past. The one thing I would suggest before you
attempt anything is to take a backup of the .CSS files just in case
As for excluding topics from a search, you can find your
answer in

Hide Objects from Searching...
The whole JSP-Files for the WebUI are located in the IFS-Database. When a user searches for some Files, he is able to get to the JSP Files and view their content.
I am not able to hide the Files, because they are needed for the startup of the WebUI for each user. So I can4t make them private.
How is it possible to exclude them from search? (Content and Selector - Search)I do not think it is possible to hide them
in WebUI. If you are using custom search
tree using the Search API, then you can
hide those by tuning WHERE condition
to exclude those files. -
Exclude Folders from showing in Windows Explorer Search Results
When using Windows 7 Explorer search function, both folders and files are displayed in the results. I need to have a way to see only the files/documents not the folders. I still want the files in subfolders to be included, I just don't need
to see the folder name appear in the list as this makes the results much to long. Is there any way to do this? That's quick :)
Anyways, you can also refer this URL : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-tms/how-do-exclude-folders-from-windows-search/58f845f6-d6fa-449e-a921-52be453038f1
Just add a minus sign, that's it..

Excluding Item IDs from Search Scope
Hi All,
I have a defined a search scope on a list at the site collection level. The scenario is when users issue a search query (using OOB advanced search web part) and if the search query happens to be the List Item ID then that record is also in the search result.
Though this is a correct scenario since the item ID exists in the search scope but to the end user this is not a valid functionality.
How to exclude this from the search scope?
Regards
ArnavYou can try to remove the ID from the index by modifying the managed\crawl properties. But then you will affect *anything* that uses that ID (including internal sharepoint features).

Removing numerals/garbage characters from search in Section 508 build WebHelp
I need to remove (prevent inclusion of) numerals and garbage characters from search results in WebHelp when compiled with Section 508 Output enabled. I need to have Section 508 enabled. Can that be done?
Thanks for your time! Thanks, Jeff. I tried including the characteres in the Stop list and recompiling. (I even closed the project and reopened.) The characters still appear. The characters I'm trying to remove are: !, #, ', (, ), -, /, :, ;, and ,. I am also trying to exclude some numbers (100.00usd, 1999.99, 2999.99, 3999.99, 4999.99, and 6pm).
The Stop list consists of those characters and the default text. Forgot to mention is the first post ... I'm using RH9.
The Section 508 flag does create 508-compliant HTML output and that is one of the requirements for this help system. This is the first time I am enabling this flag. -
What is the best alternative to exclude results from a specific site collection
Hi,
We want to exclude results from a specific site collection (for example http://server/sites/demo").
A few ways are being considered:
1. Copy the Local SharePoint Results Result Source and edit it not to include results from that site collection and then set the new custom result source as default.
2. Edit the Search Results WP in the "Everything" tab to exclude those results (edit the query there)
3. Set a query rule on "Local SharePoint Results" to exclude the results from the Demo Site Collection
What is the best?
keren tsurHi Keren,
Modifying the Local result xlt will give you the most granularity but it is also arguably more challenging because of the "editing code" portion
On your search page you could append a query string via the search webpart but that may not get granular enough.
In the past I have used search scopes to exclude items in search results. Depending on the specific requirement it may be a quick and easy way to accomplish your task. it really depends on how ganular you need to get with excluding items from results.
A search scope can be setup be going to:
1. Site Actions (of the site collection you want to apply this to)
2. Click on Site Settings
3. Under site Collection Administration ( you have to be a site collection admin or farm admin to be able to see this section)
4. click on "Search Scopes"
5. Click on New Scope
6. Name it, fill out any other options you want and click "ok"
7. Click on your newly created search scope.
8. click on "new rule"
9. Fill out the fields based on your requirements and then click "OK"
10. I believe you will want to wait for a search to index to run before this scope will return any results.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Good Luck!

Syntax of a query rule to exclude results from site collection
Hi,
I'm trying to edit a query rule to exclude results from a site collection.
I'm coping the "Local SharePoint Results" and want to add something like -path=http://server/sites/demo/*
but somehow it doesn't work. can someone help with the exact syntax (should to write http, "", to write with {} etc.)
keren tsur-SiteId:<guid>
should work. Or:
-path:http://server/sites/sitecollection

Workaround for PSE 6 "Exclude photos from category" bug
PSE 6 Organizer broke the ability to exclude from a search all photos tagged with a category or a tag within that category. Heres a partial workaround:
Suppose you want to show all photos not tagged with the Places category or a tag within the Places category. In previous versions, youd right-click Places in the Keywords Pane and select Exclude photos with Places category from search results. Thats broken in PSE 6 so instead, do this:
1. In the Find bar, Show All. (This shows all photos.)
2. In the Keyword Tags pane, check the box to the left of Places. (This shows only those photos tagged with Places or a tag within the Places category.)
3. In the Find bar, select Options > Hide Best Match Results and then select Options > Show Results that Do Not Match. (Only photos not tagged with Places or a tag within the Places category will be shown.)
Unfortunately, you cant combine this workaround with additional search criteria, i.e. all photos without a Places tag and in the date range 1986 2000.
Thanks much to JonE at Elements Village who suggested this.Thomas,
Yeah, that's the limitation of the workaround.
Unfortunately, this is still broken in PSE 7. Its ironic that your use-case is precisely the one described in the PSE 6 and 7 User Guides as an example of how to use exclusion.
The text search box in PSE 7 provides a partial workaround for some uses of exclusion. You can do not places to find photos not yet tagged with any tag in the Places category. You can do not people to find all photos with no tags in the People category. But larry and not people wont find photos containing just Larry and not any other people it excludes all photos with any tag in the People category.
Another limitation of the text search box is that it matches all the text in the photo tags, categories, captions, notes, etc. So when I search for jasper, I get photos tagged with People > Friends > Jasper as well as Places > Jasper National Park. -
Excluding songs from Party Shuffle
I have a lot of classical and jazz on my iPod. I like to listen to that in isolation but not in shuffle. How do I exclude genres from the random selection used when party shuffle lists are created?
Open iTunes.
Select Library - Music.
NI View, next tot eh Search at the top right of iTunes, select List or Grouped with artwork, one of the first two button (not cover browser).
Go to menu View -> Show browser.
This will put three boxes at the top of the music library above the songs.
You can use these to select/narrow down the music.
If you want to change info for every song in that Genre (or aArtist or Album), select the Genre, then File -> Get Info. -
How to Filter list/library view pages from Search Results?
Hi All,
Currently my search configuration is searching everything on a site collection. I have created custom scope for that.
But I would like to remove the search results for list/library views. The search should only show the documents, pages (but not list/library view pages).
Please guide me on this.
Appreciate your help.

How to remove Forms/DispForm.aspx from search results
HI
I configured enterprise search in our share point public facing portal,
and when a user search for any content why the search results are displaying from below links and when user clicks it asking authentication.
/Pages/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=477
/PublishingImages/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=3
/SiteAssets/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=1
/Documents/Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=1
and how to remove these from search results .
adilTo remove from search results...
Central Administration > Application Management > Manage service applications > Search Service Application > Crawl Rules
In the Path enter: *://*/DispForm.aspx* and for the Crawl Configuration check "Exclude all items in this path" and check "Exclude complex URLs (URLs that contain question marks - ?)"
You will then need to do a crawl of your content to remove any URLs that match this path. -
