Exclude folders during capture and restore with USMT

Hi,
As of now i am using default configuration for USMT to do capture and restore. Its USMT 5.0 (ADK 8.0)for xp -win7 and USMT 6.3 (ADK 8.1) for win7-win7. I want to exclude some folder during capture and restore. Can anyone point me to right direction which files
to modify and how to use files  with USMT once modified ?
Its a offline(Winpe)  hardlink migration .
Any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks
Regards,

yes and you can make it an unconditional exclude also, or conditional if that suits you better, (for example if C:\Data\Temp exists, then exclude it...)
here's some examples of that

  • Uefi Partitions capture and restore with ZCM 11.2.4

    Hello Everybody,
    I'm able to capture all my partitions from a Microsoft SurfacePro2 to my ZCM 11.2.4 appliance.
    The restore however is the problem. When I boot my restored machine Windows 8.1 goes into recovery modus.
    Anybody some suggestions on how to Image and Restore UEFI partitions in general or on SurfacePro2 in particular?
    Kind regards,
    Wilco

    I have heard of issues with Surface Pros before.
    There are two possible issues......
    #1 - 8.1 Is Currently Not Supported in ZCM.
    ZCM 11.3.0, which is expected to ship shortly, will not immediately add
    8.1 support but it is expected to be added via an Add-On patch to 11.3.0
    prior to 11.3.1
    #2 - The Surface Pro's BIOS may hide some partitions, which could cause
    the restore to not work quite correctly. When looking at the Disk
    Details inside of the Imaging Environment, does it show the proper disk
    geometry and full size. If parts of the disk are "missing", this can
    cause issues during restore.

    Look on the outside of the case to see if it has a port with a symbol similar to a Y, or compare its specifications against those of the first two computers on this list.

      I have a Sony HVR-V1P, can i successfully capture and edit with Final Cut Pro X

    My HVR-A1U was able to capture just fine.  The only issue I had is that it has mroe frequently than FCP 7 ever did find Timecode breaks and split my clip apart.  I never had breaks before, so while it is possible I had them on this latest tape, I think X is just more picky.  I mean heck, it found three in a one minute timeframe.  My A1U worked with X without me needing to adjsut any settings form how I had it setup for 7.

  • Preserving folders on iPad during backup and restore

    Are there suggestions for preserving my folders during a backup and restore to a new iPad2?  I have had experiences previously where my apps would be removed from the folders and I would have to spend lots of time reorganizing.

    If you are restoring to factory settings, you will loose the folders. If you are restoring from a backup, then the folders should be what is in the backup. If you change the folders on the iPad after you made a backup, then create a new backup with the current arrangement and discard the previous backup.

  • Capture and restore USMT options

    Hi ,
    I have Config manager 2012 R2 with MDT 2013 integrated TS.
    I have 3 files defined in 'Capture User State' as Miguser.xml, migdocs.xml and custom.xml using 'customize how user profiles are captured' options. While restoring user state, can I just choose 'Restore all captured user profiles with standard options'
    or is it mandatory to have 'customize how user profiles are restored' option selected with defining 3 same files?
    any pointers will be appreciated.
    Regards,

    Add all XML files you added before (at Capture State) to restore User Files and Settings step.

  • How to Block Themes, Wallpapers and other Display Customizations (DPI, Scaling, Window Color and Appearance) with USMT 5.0?

    I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.
    I've read some great write ups on the subject:
    USMT Custom XML the Free and Easy Way
    USMT
    4.0 Custom Sample - Blocking Wallpaper and Theme Migration from Windows Vista and Windows 7
    Blocking
    Wallpaper Migration with USMT (or: you are a jerk)
    and used part of the XML in their example, but the wallpaper, themes and other display customizations are still coming over.  Now I'm trying to use MigXmlHelper.DestinationPriority() but really its just my last ditch effort.
    From an elevated command prompt in C:\USMT\amd64\, I'm executing:
    scanstate.exe E:\USMTBackup /config:nothemeuiconfig.xml /i:MigApp.xml /i:MigDocs.xml /i:MigUser.xml /i:unconditionalexclusions.xml /i:blockwallpaperandthemev3.xml /i:getlocalpsts.xml /i:inclusions.xml /ui:domain1\user1 /ue:*\* /vsc /c /o /nocompress /localonly /v:13 /l:\\path\to\scanstate.log /progress:\\path\to\scanstate_progress.log /listfiles:\\path\to\scanstate_listfiles.log
    The blockwallpaperandthemev3.xml contains:

    I generated a config.xml called nothemeuiconfig.xml and changed this:
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-themeui" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-themeui/microsoft-windows-themeui/settings"/>
    To this:
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-themeui" migrate="no" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-themeui/microsoft-windows-themeui/settings"/>
    But themes, wallpapers - everything - still come over.
    Opened a case with Microsoft, sent them:
    the XML's I'm using
    the command I used to generate the config.xml
    the command I used for scanstate
    the log files generated by scanstate
    the command I used for loadstate
    the log files generated by loadstate
    Summary result of the MS case:
    After much review & scrutiny, the command line and XML files are syntactically correct and rules are sound.
    The articles I referenced in the ticket are indeed old and speak of an older version of USMT, so I can accept the possibility that something may have changed between USMT versions that render those suggested rules & instructions invalid.
    Despite using
    unconditionalExclude to unconditionally globally exclude objects, something else is trumping that rule, and there’s no way around that.
    Even using
    MigXmlHelper.DestinationPrioity() won’t help us here because, like above, something else trumps that rule, and there’s no way around that.
    The last proposed suggestion is to disable the shmig component, which may or may not break or otherwise adversely affect the backup/restore of other things.  (This may be too difficult to detect easily or in initial testing and the uncertainty doesn’t
    give us confidence problems won’t arise as a result of this change.  Also,
    Ned Pyle's post post says NOT to, but then again that's an old post.)
    Is this no longer possible or am I'm just doing it wrong?

    Thanks for the reply
    TimAmico!
    I saw your responses on Friday & Saturday, but didn't reply because I wanted to think this over a bit and try to get a second opinion.
    The 'Appearance and Display' component looks to have a has a number of sub-components.
    <component displayname="Appearance and Display" migrate="yes" ID="appearance_and_display">
    <component displayname="Windows Games Settings" migrate="yes" ID="appearance_and_display\windows_games_settings">
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-GameExplorer" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-gameexplorer/microsoft-windows-gameexplorer/settings"/>
    </component>
    <component displayname="Taskbar and Start Menu" migrate="yes" ID="appearance_and_display\taskbar_and_start_menu">
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-stobject" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-stobject/microsoft-windows-stobject/settings"/>
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-explorer" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-explorer/microsoft-windows-explorer/settings"/>
    </component>
    <component displayname="Personalized Settings" migrate="yes" ID="appearance_and_display\personalized_settings">
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-uxtheme" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-uxtheme/microsoft-windows-uxtheme/settings"/>
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-themeui" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-themeui/microsoft-windows-themeui/settings"/>
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-shmig" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-shmig/microsoft-windows-shmig/settings"/>
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-shell32" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-shell32/microsoft-windows-shell32/settings"/>
    <component displayname="Microsoft-Windows-CommandPrompt" migrate="yes" ID="http://www.microsoft.com/migration/1.0/migxmlext/cmi/microsoft-windows-commandprompt/microsoft-windows-commandprompt/settings"/>
    </component>
    </component>
    If I'm understanding the XML correctly, setting 'Appearance and Display' to 'no' will not bring over any of the sub components:
    Windows Games Settings: Microsoft-Windows-GameExplorer
    Tarkbar & Start Menu: Microsoft-Windows-stobject
    Tarkbar & Start Menu: Microsoft-Windows-explorer
    Personalized Settings: Microsoft-Windows-uxtheme
    Personalized Settings: Microsoft-Windows-themeui
    Personalized Settings: Microsoft-Windows-shmig
    Personalized Settings: Microsoft-Windows-shell32
    Personalized Settings: Microsoft-Windows-CommandPrompt
    If so, that, to me at least, represents a pretty significant change!  We want the pinned items but not the backgrounds and themes so that specific change won't work for us, but glad to hear it meets your needs.  (Also greatly appreciate your sharing
    your results with us.)
    I'll admit, even before reaching out to MS, the logs clearly show that the themes/backgrounds are all part of the 'Microsoft-Windows-shmig' component but dang it if I want something of substance (read: official documentation) that covers what exactly that
    component handles.  (I like to know what I'm potentially getting myself into.)

  • Having issues with Chrome/Firefox favorites restore with USMT 5

    I've been having some problems getting Chrome bookmarks and Firefox to restore properly with USMT 5 during OSD. All other data settings and files are restoring properly but I can't seem to get Chrome / Firefox bookmarks to restore after OSD.
    Does anyone have some tips on how to do this? I've already done quite a bit of searching but can't seem to find clear info on this.
    Any helpful info would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Out-of-the-box those settings are indeed not detected and restored. For a good XML example for catching these settings see:

  • How do I replace a failed hard drive and restore with time machine

    My hard drive died on my 2009 MacBook Pro. I regularly backed up my data using Time Machine. How do I format the drive and restore fom my USB TimeMachine drive.

    If you haven't made a Lion or Mt Lion install USB thumb drive or used the Recovery Disk assistant to make a USB thumb of the Recovery HD then you will need to boot the system from the original OS Install disk that came with the system or a Snow Leopard disk you bought to upgrade to Snow Leopard. Then use the option to restore from TM backup.
    Or if you have made  New backup since install Lion or Mt Lion then that Tm backup may have a copy of the Recovery HD on it. Only way to tell is connect your TM backup drive and when starting the system hold down the Option key and see if you get a link that says Recovery HD.

  • I would like to use a virtual machine as a refernce computer during capture and depoly

    Hello all
    I can't seem to find a good step by step on using a virtual machine as a refernce computer for the capture and depoly part of OSD. Does anyone have a link that has helped them?
    Thanks,
    Phil
    Phil Balderos

    It is pretty straight forward, same way you would do a B&C on a physical. Only added benefit is you don't have a bunch of garbage drivers preloaded into the OS.
    I can give you a high level type of approach:
    Create your B&C task sequence inside of SCCM
    Advertise to your unknown computers collection
    Using your Virtualization software, provision your VM with standard hardware. Nothing special
    PXE boot your VM into the SCCM OSD
    Choose your advertised B&C task sequence
    Once complete, add your newly captured WIM to the Operating System Images node in SCCM
    Create a Deploy Task Sequence
    Advertise that to your unknown computer collection
    PXE boot one of your physical boxes and test the new task sequence to ensure the new image works/looks properly
    Please note: Step 9 may take some additional configuration of boot drivers in order to work depending on your hardware you are trying to deploy to
    It's hard to get any more in depth on a walkthrough with that process unless you wanted to start getting hardware/software specific. If you have questions along the way about specifics we can always help with that as well

    This is good stuff Dustin! Thanks. I will actually work on this now

But if I do that will I just be reinstalling all of my clutter? Does TM really put a hard drive back EXACTLY as it was before? Any suggestions?

    yes, you will.

    yes, it does.

    do an erase and install and manually restore only what you need. pretty tedious but is the only way to achieve what you want. after you reinstall you can access your old TM backups in browse mode. control-click on TM in the Dock and choose "browse other TM disks". this will let you browse your old backups and restore what you want where you want to.

  • Image capture and send with post

    Ok, like the title suggests, I have a lil paint function
    drawing on a canvas in flex 2. What I need is to get that image all
    captured and bundled up to send to asp.net VB. The site is here:
    we are UNLIMITED .com Click on
    start, then Draw, and you will get to play with that canvas. You
    can draw all day, different brush sizes, colors, and erase. I need
    a capture button there to get the image off the canvas into BYTE
    format. Mainly what i need help on is sending that byte array from
    flex to asp.net VB, and REALLY need help on catching that byte
    array in asp.net VB and getting it to the point i save save it to
    the server HDD via the file I/O. I have already been able to save
    XML docs to the HDD with asp.net VB to be read by flex via the file
    I/O. I really just need some asp.net vb code to do the "POST" catch
    (or request), and get the image to PNG? format to be saved. This is
    going to be a small paint program in flex, members can use to
    create their avatar. I will be implementing say a crop, copy/paste,
    drag and drop, resize and what not, to give my users more
    flexability as far as what their image looks like. I'd really like
    it to be as close to a basic "windows paint" program. But that's
    another story. For some reason every time I look up passing
    variables from flex (flash) to asp.net vb, it's POSTing form vars,
    and really none of it has dealings with images. I know it's
    probably really the same, but like I was trying to say, I just get
    all kinds of confused with working with byte arrays and asp.net vb
    and flex. I was actually supposed to have this site up and running
    this past Aug, but with the swap to flex, the pains of membership
    between flex and asp.net vb, and my general newbie beginnings of
    this whole aspect of computers. Let's just say it's taken a bit
    longer than expected.
    So to recap from all my babbling:
    I need to:
    (flex)
    Capture the image on that canvas (see link)
    load to asp.net VB (pref. using POST)
    (asp.net VB)
    create an asp.net vb page to receive/request that image
    reformat that image ( pref. PNG )
    save the formatted image to the server HDD
    This should be fairly simple, and I'm almost embarrassed to
    ask for help. I've just been trying to work through this muck for
    way too long, and I really need to get past this.
    code snippets would be great, although just some good
    resources to look at would be great too. I do entirely appreciate
    any help in this matter.

    You've probably already worked this one out but I thought I
    would post my solution - not elegant but it works
    I spent two days trying to find an asp.net solution in VB.net
    to no avail so here goes:
    Actionscript:
    var bitMD:BitmapData = new BitmapData(this.width,this.height)
    bitMD.draw(this);
    var _PNG:ByteArray = PNGEncoder.encode(bitMD);
    var U:URLRequest = new URLRequest
    U.method = URLRequestMethod.POST
    U.data = _PNG;
    U.contentType="application/octet-stream";
    U.url = "
    http://localhost/CARTO/image.aspx";
    var UR:URLLoader = new URLLoader
    UR.dataFormat = URLLoaderDataFormat.TEXT
    UR.load(U);
    ASP.NET
    Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As
    System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
    Dim b() As Byte = Request.BinaryRead(Request.TotalBytes)
    Dim ms As MemoryStream = New MemoryStream(b)
    Dim img As System.Drawing.Image = Bitmap.FromStream(ms)
    Dim bmp As Bitmap = New Bitmap(img)
    Dim tempStream As New MemoryStream()
    bmp.Save(tempStream, System.Drawing.Imaging.ImageFormat.Png)
    Dim fs As New
    FileStream(System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("test.png"),
    FileMode.Create)
    tempStream.WriteTo(fs)
    tempStream.Close()
    fs.Close()
    End Sub

  • Blu-Ray video capture and burning with G4 Power Book ??

    Good afternoon.
    Has anybody figured out this route with a G4?
    If so, please explain in nauseating details! Hardware, software, etc.......
    Thanks for your time!

    Thanks for your reply.
    It's also my understanding that OS X doesn't natively offer Blu-Ray support, and that an external Blu-Ray player/burner is required (see OWC) along with capture and burning software (Toast 10).
    I'm wondering if anyone has tried and succeeded.

  • Blank windows on minimise and restore with compiz on kf5

    Hi,
    Since I have updated to kf5, I am experiencing a problem with windows being blank except for the titlebar when I minimise and then restore them. I use compiz-core 0.8.10-1. If minimise and restore the window several times then I can get the window to redraw correctly, but it seems random as to when it redraws correctly and when it is blank. This does not seem to only happen in firefox, so far I have noticed this to happen with konsole, thunderbird and several other programs. Here is a screenshot of when it looks like when it is blank:
    I have tried creating a new user and just enabling compiz, but the problem still occurs.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    I have exactly the same problem with my 8gb ipod touch 2nd gen and have tried everything you have with no success (see http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2531624&tstart=0)
    It's definitely due to the itunes 9.2 update in June. I get the same itunes restore and sync errors you have on Windows Vista and Windows 7. It only starts restoring and syncing properly on Windows XP. I've tried downgrading to an itunes version that worked for me on Vista before, but Apple have updated the ipod touch firmware so that its not supported anymore by the earlier versions of itunes.
    Apple phone support is a waste of time. They want to charge me £25 before they are interested in helping as they say my ipod is out of warranty - but its not the ipod that's broken, its the poorly written ITUNES, so why shouldn't I get free support for itunes even though my IPOD, which is perfectly fine, is out of warranty?!
    Truth is, now apple has your money, they don't care...
