Exclude photos with certain catagory or tag from search in PSE 7?

It's very easy to to do a search where I want to exclude photos with a certain tag or category from the found set, in my PSE 3. I read that it's difficult in PSE 6.
Is it easier in PSE 7?
Thanks in advance, Guy Moses

Guy,
In PSE 6 and 7, its easy to exclude leaf keyword tags from a search, but Adobe broke the ability exclude keyword categories/subcategories. There are two partial workarounds, one of which is only available in PSE 7:

  • Taking photos with my iPhone5c color shifts from photo to square

When taking photos with my iphone 5c ios7 I notice the color shifts from photo to square. The color changes are noticible. I have auto focus on, flash off, on both formats I click on the image to get exposure and focus and take the photo.

    Hi Rick,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If the colors look different when you take pictures in "photo" and "square" mode, make sure that there are no filters being used:
Apply a filter:  (iPhone 4s or later) Tap the filter icon to apply different color effects, such as black & white. To turn off a filter, tap , then tap None. You can also apply a filter later, when you edit the photo. See Edit photos and trim videos.
If you are seeing unexpected results when taking pictures with your iPhone 5c, these troubleshooting steps can help:
Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

  • Photos with effects. Made directly from the camera on new iOS7.

Computer don't see effects. Photos displays as a simple photos, without effects.
    P.S.: PC - Windows 7

AFAIK, you can't. It appears to me that the phone is merely "tagging" these photos, and most, if not all photo programs on computers can't read these tags. Apple will have to provide a fix.

  • Why are my photos with Iphone 5 totally off from what I am shooting at.

I'm a photographer so not a bad shot, frequently my picture when aimed at a full body or group of people will only capture the very lower half (feet and large floor area).  The next shot might be fine, Please help it's driving me nuts! Thanks!

When I plugged in the new backup (external drive) and clicked on iPhoto library, it opened iPhoto in the exact place I was working and that one photo was gone.
When you clicked on the library iPhoto on the EHD iPhoto is op;ending the last library that was previously opened. To change libraries launch iPhoto with the Option key held down to get this window:
Then select the library that is on the EHD if it's in the window. If it isn't, click on the Other Library button, navigate to the EHD and select the library there.

  • How can I drag multiple photos into a new iPhoto library from search box?

I lost but found my list of photos that were in my iPhoto library. I am unable to drag more than one photo at a time from the search box into the new iPhoto library box. Am I doing something wrong or do I have to drag one at a time? (That would take hours.) Please help if you can!
    Thanks,
    Laure

    Roam,
Thanks again. I know how to highlight and drag multiple photos or a list of files, but the only place I found my list was by going to Finder>File>Find then a dialogue box comes up. In the dialogue box I put in iPhoto and checked that then put in "kind" "is" "image" and "size" "is greater than" "30" KB. When I click search, the entire list from my library comes up but that is when I am unable to drag more than one file at a time. The box that comes up when I search isn't (at least I don't think it is) a "folder" as such. Any suggesttions?

  • Workaround for PSE 6 "Exclude photos from category" bug

PSE 6 Organizer broke the ability to exclude from a search all photos tagged with a category or a tag within that category. Heres a partial workaround:
Suppose you want to show all photos not tagged with the Places category or a tag within the Places category. In previous versions, youd right-click Places in the Keywords Pane and select Exclude photos with Places category from search results. Thats broken in PSE 6 so instead, do this:
    1. In the Find bar, Show All. (This shows all photos.)
    2. In the Keyword Tags pane, check the box to the left of Places. (This shows only those photos tagged with Places or a tag within the Places category.)
    3. In the Find bar, select Options > Hide Best Match Results and then select Options > Show Results that Do Not Match. (Only photos not tagged with Places or a tag within the Places category will be shown.)
Unfortunately, you cant combine this workaround with additional search criteria, i.e. all photos without a Places tag and in the date range 1986 2000.
Thanks much to JonE at Elements Village who suggested this.

    Thomas,
Yeah, that's the limitation of the workaround.
Unfortunately, this is still broken in PSE 7. Its ironic that your use-case is precisely the one described in the PSE 6 and 7 User Guides as an example of how to use exclusion.
The text search box in PSE 7 provides a partial workaround for some uses of exclusion. You can do not places to find photos not yet tagged with any tag in the Places category. You can do not people to find all photos with no tags in the People category. But larry and not people wont find photos containing just Larry and not any other people it excludes all photos with any tag in the People category.
Another limitation of the text search box is that it matches all the text in the photo tags, categories, captions, notes, etc. So when I search for jasper, I get photos tagged with People > Friends > Jasper as well as Places > Jasper National Park.

  • Can you transfer pictures with tags from photo album 2 to Photo organizer 9 (MAC)?

I am switching over to a Mac computer and want to move my 25,000 plus images with various tags on Photo Album 2(windows) to a new program. Is this possible on Photoshop elements 9 or any program?

It's easy enough to get them from Elements 9 in windows to Elements 9 on a mac (if you buy the boxed version you can install on either platform). The tricky part is getting from PSA2 to PSE 9 in windows. See this for more:
    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshop-elements-faq.htm#_Problems_converting_catalo gs
If you can update your catalog to PSE 9, here's how to move it to the mac:

  • I need help proving the date tag on a photo stored in my iPhoto is from the date it was sent to my iphone/date it was imported into iphoto - and that it is NOT the date the photo was actually taken.  Please help!

I need help proving the date tag on a photo stored in my iPhoto is from the date it was sent to my iphone/date it was imported into iphoto - and that it is NOT the date the photo was actually taken.   I recieved a photo via text on my iphone and then I synced my iphone to my macbook and now it is in iphoto.  I already know that the date on the photo per the tag that shows up on it in iphoto is NOT the date the photo was actually taken.  I need article or literature or something confirming the tag is from when it was sent to the iphone and/or when it was imported.  I greatly appreciate some assistance!

All I am trying to do is find something on a forum board or article etc stating that the the date showing in iphoto could be the date it was imported or synced or sent to me and not the actual date taken.
The date on the photo could be anything because you can edit the date with iPhoto or any of 100 apps, free and paid for. So, the date on the photo will prove nothing, I'm afraid.

  • Moving photos w/tags from XPpc to Vista pc using the free starter edition

I have a pc with XP (SP2) with Album 2.0 on which I have a few hundred photos organized with tags and some editing .... many hours of "tagging" invested by me. I just bought a new pc with Vista Home Premium. All I really want to do is be able to import all the exising photos WITH their tags, do very rudimentary editing - primarily redeye reduction, a bit of contrast change occasionally - and be able to add new photos, locate, view, print (home or photo kiosks) and send via email my photos (Outlook 2007) to others. I do NOT want to have spend hours re-tagging all my existing photos if I don't have to do so. From perusing your forum(s) it seems that may be a very complicated procedure for a non-expert user (e.g. I don't know anything about "Access" and don't want to take time to learn).
If I can do what I want (import existing photos into the free starter program (3.2?)) and continue to use that program for redeye reduction and email as well as organize using tags - that would be great. BUT - seems very complicated to me. Perhaps I should use some other free program that will be supported for a long time, like Picassa, and bite the bullet of spending many hours "re-tagging and perhaps re-editing?? It's always a guess as to how long progrmas will be supported, and both Google and Adobe appear as though they'll be around. But any advice will be welcome. I wouldn't be considering Starter except I'm used to to Album 2.0, and have all those hundreds of photos already "tagged" and used redeye reduction on many of them (and don't know whether Picassa or any other program would recognize the exisiting tags and/or the redeye reduction and other editing I did).
Thanks for any help - hopefully in as non-techie language as possible.
    Steve

Well I am reading the progress on your situation, trying to pick up some info. While I do not use the Elements starter edition, it has pretty much the same issues with transfereing catalogs from one machine to another and/or migrating from XP to Vista, as the other versions of Elements have.
I have been going through the gyrations of moving V4 on an XP machine to V6 on a Vista machine.
As suggested in other forums, I finally went to a two step process. First I added V6 to the XP machine that has the properly operating V4 on it. I did the conversion process to migrate the catalog to the V6 program. Yeah it does convert, but half the photos ( thousands) are disconnected. Reconnecting one and then doing a reconnect all does not work as suggested by others. Reconnecting all manually just aint going to happen.
I have tried the external hard drive thing and moved the catalog to the Vista machine but the results are the same.
While I am not an expert software person, I do have enough experience to know where the problem lies. It lies directly with Adobe and they have dropped the ball and put a seriously defective product on the market and so far have not fessed up the their responsibility.

  • Import People tags from Windows Live Photo Gallery

I've used Windows Live Photo Gallery for years and have over 15k images that have people tags embedded in the metadata for the files.  I recently downloaded the Photoshop Elements 13 trial and am trying to determine if the organizer that ships with it will meet my needs, however, I am not seeing a way to import People tags from my existing images.  I have imported the images, and most of the photo tags appear to have been imported, but not the people tags.  Is there any built-in way to import people tags from the file-based EXIF metadata, or an external tool or add-in that might be able to bring my WLPG People Tags into PE13?
    Thanks!

Adding a 'Me too' to bump this up. Doing the '30 day evaluation' as I'm looking to change only because MSFT has abandoned the product and I some better editing on things like 'healing/clone brush' for the picture's I scan (using the very old Digital Image Pro).   Google's Picasa has no problem recognizing them including the location of the face selection (though it does like to recognize over top of them sometimes).
I can deal with some of the amazingly frustrating clunkiness of the UI and navigation (they seriously need to hire some new usability designers) but it is a show stopper if the People aspect won't recognize existing tags from WLG and/or Picasa.

  • Transfer photo tags from N900 to N8

    Hi,
the title says it all. On one side you have the N900 with photos taken and tagged and on the other you have the N8 where you want to transfer the photos with the tags.
If the photos are just copied to the N8, you will not have the tags recognized for some reason although the tags are to be found in the EXIF, checked some photos copied in the N8 from the N900 and they all have the tags in it.
Creating the tag afterwards in the N8 does not help either.
    Any suggestion welcome.
    Best regards,
    Max.

Use Image Capture app to upload photos and transfer them to any new or existing file or location. You can set IC to remove the photos from iphone or any other camera cards after transfer. After previewing and deleteing unwanted photos, transfer good ones to iphoto or other app. I clear my cameras quite often after taking 100s of photos each day. Enjoy.....

  • How to get started Organizing photos with tags and albums

    Apporximately 15,000
Mostly family, vacations, travel, etc over 30 years
What is the BEST way to get started?  Should I tag them first or put them in albums and sub-albums and then try to tag and further identify them?  I know nothing of how is best to proceed.
I am oveerwhelmed with the process and cannot seem to find a starting point.  I have looked at many of the tutorials, but cannot find a "1-2-3 A-B-C" roadmap.
Message title was edited by: Brett N

I would recommend doing all (okay, almost all) of your organizing via tags. Don't bother using albums unless there are a subset of photos that you want to display somehow (like a slideshow, or photobook) in which case albums are the right tool. Also, make sure that when appropriate, you add the proper captions and notes.
I would start by using pencil and paper (or word processor) to make a list of categories and tags, in the appropriate hierarchy, that you might want. For example, in the people category, there are tags Jones Family, Smith Family, etc. (and sub-tags with people's names) In the event category, there are tags Vacation, Beach, Christmas, Hanuka, etc. Other categories you might want: Location (example: New York, Boston, Illinois), Content (mountain, church, waterfall, gorilla, historical site). This part completely depends on you.
Once you have this hiearachy of categories and tags to your liking, start creating/adding the tags (and captions and notes if needed) to your photos. You can work in small batches. Eventually you will have all your photos tagged (trust me, I know, I did this too).
Do NOT: move photos or folders from here to there, or rename them ... this is unnecessary extra work, as you will be using your tags from this point forward to locate your photos (exception: if you want/need to move the photos to a different hard disk, then by all means do so).

  • Search for photos with a certain keyword ...

    Hi,
I want to use the Filter-Pane to find all photos with a certain keyword on my disk - and not only in a specifiy folder.
    Is this possible with Bridge?
Or do I always have to go into a specific subfolder and look there for the keywords? If yes, the filter doesn't help - if I am in the folder, I don't need the keywords anymore.
    Thanks

use Edit->Find to search for keywords from different folders

  • I just order 8 calendars from iPhoto and they came to me fine. Now I need to order two more but when I go thru the process I get a message  saying:unable to assemble calendar. There is a probleme with the photo with the file name"(Null)"   more........ .

Would someone be able to explain to me the following issue with Iphoto?
I ordered 8 same calendars for my soccer team and received them fine. Although a couple of pictures on it are a little off (out of focus). I need to order two more of the same calendars but when I go thru the process ireceive an error message saying:
"Unable to to assemble  calendar" There is a problem with the photo with the file name "(Null)" The full resolution version of this photo either cannot be located or is corrupt. Please replace this photo or delete it from your calendar.
How can  I fine this "corrupt" photo? How did it go thru with the first batch of calendars but won't go thru now?
    Thank you for your help.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start
with Option #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.
