Excluding fields in Select

Hi, Is there a way in a Select Clause to exclude one field and include rest from a table that has say 50 columns, without specifying the field names. Also, if I have following declaration in by PL/SQL procedure
rcd1 table1%rowtype;
rcd2 table2%rowtype;
then if rcd 1 has one extra field, is there a way to assign all the fields of rcd1 to rcd2 or vice versa without individual field assignments. Assigning each individual field in this case and also identifying each field in Select seems to be too conventional.

And the problem with conventionality is? Let's face it, if everybody went around with three foot waxed mustachios and a lobster on a leash then we'd never be able to get a decent cup of coffee. Umm, maybe I need to think this through a bit more....
Anyway, my point is:
SELECT * FROM my_table is fine when we're doing a bit of QAD programming in SQL*Plus. But when we are writing real programs, intended for production, we should always spell out the actual columns we want. All of them. SELECT * FROM is (in the words of the Inestimable Mr Kyte) a bug waiting to happen.

I took a look at the documentation of this FM to confirm what I was thinking:
"You can also disable the function allowing users to enter values to be excluded from the selection (SIGN = 'E')."
So I think this is trying to tell us that we can turn off the ability for the user to enter "exclude" but we cannot turn off the option for the user to enter "include" options.
When you set ***-sg_main = 'I', it means that only "include" options are allowed.
I think you will need to do your own validation.
In the event AT SELECTION SCREEN you can do a LOOP on your selection option name and validate the users selections:
LOOP AT SO_MINE.
IF SO_MINE-SIGN NE 'E'.
    SET CURSOR FIELD 'SO_MINE-LOW'.
    MESSAGE E123.
ENDIF.
ENDLOOP.

EXCLUDE field from logical db

Hi All,
I need to exclude a particular selection option from a custom program which
uses the standard selection screen of a logical database.
Will I be able to EXCLUDE it manually after going to the Selection include after
geting the Access key? Already we are using a selection screen version for the cusom program.
I hope to make the change in the same version only.
Please comment on the feasibility.

Hi Neethu,
With Access key you will be able to modify it. But at the same time you need to go through the entire source code of the LDB & analyze its impact. If you dont need that field to be displayed you can change the source code to make it invisible instead.

HI,
if it is a normal report program then you can directly create a Selection screen field.
After the Type-pool you can use Parameters or Select-options to create the selection screen field..
If it is a Modulpool program then you can create a selection scren field like
SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF SCREEN 1100 AS SUBSCREEN.
PARAMETERS: p1(10) TYPE c.
SELECTION-SCREEN END OF SCREEN 1100.
defines a selection screens 1100 as subscreens.
The next screen number of screen 100 is 100 (statically-defined).
PROCESS BEFORE OUTPUT.

How do I validate one field's length based on another field's selection?

I am creating a form for our offices where I need to check one field for length of a serial number based on the answer to a previous field's selection. Depending on the product selection, the serial number has two different lengths. Both fields are marked as required, but I want to make sure that we receive the full serial number for our product. Previous forms were done on paper and instructions were for the last 4 digits only which now we want the full serial number. One product has a 12 digit number and the other is 6.
I'm guessing that I need a validation script in the serial number field, but I am not a JavaScript coder and haven't found the right thing when searching. Any help would be great!

Never trust your users to follow what you expect them to do... That often leads to mistakes and problems later on.
I would reset the s/n field when a selection is made in the drop-down. To do so set the drop-down field to commit the selected value immediately and add code as its custom validation script:

To validate the s/n field you can use something like this as that field's custom validation script (of course, you'll need to adjust the field names and values to match the actual ones in your file):

New Z* field in selection of MB51

Hello,
we added new Z* field in selection of MB51 (SPRO -> Materials Mgmt -> Inventory Mgmt & Pyhsyical Inv -> Reporting -> Define field selection for material document list) but in selection of MB51 this field does not have any text only technical name. Could you tell what it is reason?

are you saying u have appended a new field in mseg and mkpf and this Z field is then also added in the MB51 reporting via the node u mentioned but still the techincal name is visble although u have mentioned the name/label in data element and its active.
U may get in touch with abap team as its possible to change the name of a field via tcode CMOD /SMOD i have seen one abaper doing that but dont remeber the procedure to do that ....

Validate a field on selection screen based on value entered on anothr field

HI,
There is a program with some fields in selection screen in EWM. The first field is Warehouse. I need to add another field 'Entity to Dispose' in such that what ever value I enter in Warehouse field, its corresponding values should only be displayed as F4 help for 'Entity to Dispose' field.
For eg: If I select the warehouse as 0799(lets say), then the F4 help for Entity to Dispose field should display only the values which are related to warehouse 0799 (and any other values pertaining to other warehouse should not appear).
Could anyone suggest, how this can be achieved?

You can use FM
DYNP_VALUES_READ
DYNP_VALUES_UPDATE
to read the another field value and Using that field build your internal table for f4 values.
and use FM F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST for F4 values..
do this on AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON VALUE REQUEST FOR <YOUR_F4_FIELDNAME>.

How to Add/Concatenate to a text field, values selected in a combo box

I have a combo box form field that allows the user to select a value from a list and click on an Add button. The Add button should add/concatenate the vaue selected to a text field in order to create a list of values selected. I'm not sure how to do this using Javascript in Acrobat? I know I need to add the javascript to the Add button's Mouse Up action. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Let's say the text field's name is "Text1", and the combo is called "Combo1". You can then use this code as the MouseUp script of the Add button:

I have a Sharepoint 2013 list with three fields. Code, Section and Sub Section.
I would like to be able to have the form autopopulate the Section and Sub Section fields when a value for code is entered.

Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to achieve that the second dropdown gets populated depending on what the first dropdown is set to.
To achieve your requirement, creating cascading dropdown fields with InfoPath.

Unable to have field in selection screen of Infopackage

Hello Gurus,
I have a small problem,
I am unable to bring on field in selection screen in Infopackage,
even thou the object is ticket in DataSources selection option,
I have noted that the object is of type DEC is it something to do with,
Or is their any other way to have this object in selection screen of Infopackage,
Please help me on this,

Bhanu its field type is DEC thats why its not coming in selection screen in Infopackage .This is a big problem in our Development as this field is SPRIO(Procurement Priority) and we want to restrict this field with conduction SPRIO EQ 1.
Our DataSource is based on Infoset , Bhanu is it possible to restrict this Field in Infoset writing some code. As their is option in Infoset for CODE we tried this but didnt work.
or any other way to restrict this field with 1.

Exclude Option through Selection Screen

We have BI2004s. This is the scenario
1. Query has a selection screen one of the option is profit center
2. When you click on to select values for input it comes with popup window. We can choose the value we want and say add. on the right hand side it would appear with = selected value.
bold In BusinessExplorer we have an option to exclude this value but bring in every thing else by flip of a button. Is there any thing available through portal?
By default our query is running with 0_BI_ANALYSIS_PATTERN. ( We are not using WAD). We are using the same query we have generated for Bex analyzer throguh portal via an iview.

On the right had side where it is appearing as =, you can also see it as "include". You can change this to exclude the given selection. And if you have any fixed values to be excluded you can directly do that in the query designer.

PDF forms have problems displaying text and only appears when the field is selected

Hello,
I created some pdf forms to distribute to the company clients. But we are having some people complaining about the text visibility. When they have work in team, the pdf that they receive from a third person often appears unfill or without text, the text is only visible when the field is selected. I need to find a solution for this because our company products are base on this forms.
If there is any addition information that I should add to understand what is happening and how to fix it, I'll be happy to write it.
In the company, we all have mac and the forms where created innitially in Adobe acrobat 9 pro, but we have now Adobe acropabt XI pro.
The users have both Mac and Windows systems.

This is usually caused by the form being filled-in and saved by a Mac user who is using the Preview application to view the PDF. More information is here: http://kb2.adobe.com/community/publishing/885/cpsid_88564.html
It is a good idea to inform your users that Adobe Reader (or Acrobat) should be used to work with the forms.
