Excluding playlists from shuffle

Is there a way to exclude playlists from the shuffle songs feature? I have a few comedy albums that I would rather not be included when I shuffle my songs. Thanks!

In iTunes, select these comedy albums, then right click - get info.
Tick *Skip when shuffling* and set it to Yes, then click OK.

  • Excluding songs from shuffle, but including in playlists

Is is possible to exclue a song from shuffle mode, yet have it still play in a playlist?
I believe this used to be possible, but I'm unable to do so recently.
Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

Jeff, thank you for your reply. I am aware of how to skip songs while shuffling. Let me try to explain my issue another way.
I have assorted Beethoven, Mozart, other classical music on my ipod. About 50 songs or so. I have deselected them from playing in shuffle mode.
However, I have put them in a separate playlist "classical music" so if the mood should strike, I can listen to them. When I select the "classical music" playlist, it only shows the first song in the list, and now playing 1 of 1, then abuptly stops, even though there are 50 songs in that playlist.
I imagine it is doing this because I have taken them out of shuffle?

  • How to stop playlists from shuffling

My playlists started shuffling themselves and I can't work out how to stop them - need help please!!

Start playing a song - any song.
Tap on the album artwork area to bring up the scrubber for the song playing.
To the left of the scrubber is the repeat icon/selection. To the right of the scrubber is the shuffle icon/selection.
If the color of the shuffle icon/selection is blue, shuffle is selected. Select the icon to change the color of the icon to white which means it is off.

  • How to exclude songs from shuffle on multiple devices?

Hi - I just successfully excluded Chirstmas songs from the list of songs that play during 'shuffle' on my work computer by using 'Get info' and 'options' (thanks to this support community - thanks!).  Now, how do I make this apply to my other devices that aren't computers (iPod, iPod nano)?  If I plug the other devices into my work computer and accept whatever syncing options pop up, will that do it?  I just want to be able to shuffle without hearing 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' in June.  Thanks for any help.

I would use playlists for this, and then shuffle the playlist not, the whole collection of songs...
I also use the recommendations of this blog to shuffle through my mp3 colleciton (since it is larger than what the ipod can store.
check both this links for recommendations

  • Exclude songs from shuffle on iPod Nano?

    Hi,
Does anuyone know if it's possible to exclude certain tracks from playing when I choose to shuufle the tracks on my nano?
I have 80 tracks by one sratis (all spoken word) which I don't want to hear when i shuffle the tracks.
    Thanks

If you put the tracks you want to hear in a playlist, and then go into that playlist, you can set the iPod to only shuffle within that playlist. To do this, start playing within that playlist, but don't use the shuffle on the main menu, use the one in settings and it will keep you inside your current playlist, album, artist, etc.

  • Excluding songs from shuffle mode

I enjoy listening to my library in the shuffle mode but am having trouble removing certain items (itrip stations, my 14 month old daughter's baby einstein music, etc.) from the shuffle. The library is too large to create a smart playlist. I have attempted the -get info, options, skip when shuffling route-for every unwanted selection but the songs and stations still appear in the shuffle mode. Is there a way to accomplish this without unchecking the songs? I have searched every tutorial and exhausted all of my support help. Thanks.

I have gone in under info, options, skip when shuffling for each song and updated the ipod afterward but the skipped songs keep getting into the shuffle. I'm not sure how to skip songs on the ipod itself as you suggested, I'll look into it. Thanks for your time and input.

    Try:
*Match all of the following rules*
    *Playlist is Music*
*Video Kind is not Music Video*
plus your rule to exclude Christmas music
And select the options *Match only checked items* and *Live updating*.

  • Exclude songs from iTunes shuffle without iTunes?

    Hello-
    I have an iPhone 4, running OS 5.1. 1.
When I workout, I would like to exclude some songs, podcasts and audiobooks from shuffle mode. How can I do that?
I do not use iTunes and sync to my iCloud account instead. Is it feasible or do I need to install iTunes?
    Thanks in advance.
    Chris.

There is a tag setting in Get Info that you could use, "Skip when shuffling" is an option that is applied on a per-song basis.  The downside is that these songs will never shuffle, and once you apply this change there does not seem to be a way to identify which ones you tagged like that.  Unless there's a script to locate such tag elements, you'd have to also put something in the tag that is searchable (e.g. in Comments put "~Skip").

  • Excluding songs from Party Shuffle

I have a lot of classical and jazz on my iPod. I like to listen to that in isolation but not in shuffle. How do I exclude genres from the random selection used when party shuffle lists are created?

    Open iTunes.
    Select Library - Music.
NI View, next tot eh Search at the top right of iTunes, select List or Grouped with artwork, one of the first two button (not cover browser).
Go to menu View -> Show browser.
This will put three boxes at the top of the music library above the songs.
You can use these to select/narrow down the music.
If you want to change info for every song in that Genre (or aArtist or Album), select the Genre, then File -> Get Info.

  • Copy songs from shuffle to playlist

I want to take the songs off my shuffle and put them into a new playlist so I can reorder them--how do I do that?  Or, how can I simply change the order?  (I have the version where you can listen to songs in order or random)

Two ways to duplicate the playlist from your shuffle.  First way, connect your shuffle to your computer, start iTunes.
    1.  Select the playlist on your shuffle device by left-click
    2.  Select all songs on your playlist by left-click song 1, press shift key, left-click last song on list
    3.  With all songs now selected, left-click FILE > NEW PLAYLIST FROM SELECTION.  This should immediately make a "duplicate" playlist on your shuffle device which you can then name.
Second way, again, connected to your computer, start iTunes.
    1.  Select the playlist on your shuffle device by left-click
    2.  Immediately right-click the playlist to show menu and left-click EXPORT
    3.  Select a "Save In" location and name the new playlist file
    4.  Left-click FILE > LIBRARY > IMPORT PLAYLIST
    5.  Select "Look In" and find the new playlist file from step-3.  This should immediately add the new playlist to your iTunes PLAYLISTS.

  • Albums missing from playlist when shuffle-modes are turned on

I created a playlist and all 312 files that should be in that playlist display in iTunes and when I navigate into the playlist in my ipod. However, when I start playing that playlist and my ipod is set to "shuffle by songs" or "shuffle by artist", my ipod will start playing file "1 of 77". All 77 of these files are on two albums. When shuffle is turned off, it will play all 312 songs. Why does my ipod ignore all the other albums that should be part of the playlist when shuffle is turned on? The only criteria to be on the playlist is that the genre must match one of the rules. I do not see a difference in tagging between the 2 albums that play reguarless of shuffling and all the others. Just to be sure, I even tried adding tag data to the "sorting" fields.

Check under Get Info on the tracks that don't play. They are probably set to Skip When Shuffling.
(The Skip option is found under the Options tab in Get Info.)

  • How do I exclude items from itunes match?

How do I exclude select items or playlists from itunes match?

The quick answer is that you don't.
However, there are some options, which are all a bit fiddly.
You could split your library, so that songs which you don't want in the cloud are in one library and those that you do want are in another. There are plenty of problems with this method.
You could force the songs to be ineligible for match. The most common way of doing this is to tell iTunes that they are podcasts or audiobooks. That way match will exclude them, but depending on your useage this could be a problem. They won't turn up if you are shuffling music for example.
The method I prefer requires a second library signed up for match. Add your music and then, on the second library delete the songs, selecting to delete them from the cloud. This will not remove the original file from your main library and it will stay there with the iCloud status of "removed". I find that this works very well, but be warned that if you turn match off and on again on the main computer then it will add all those songs to the cloud again, so this isn't a solution if you are likely to turn match off and on regularly.
Other than that, the only option is to wait and hope that Apple add the ability to exclude songs.

  • How do i stop my iPhone iTunes from Shuffling songs?

I cannot figure out how to stop my iPhone Music/iTunes from shuffling songs but instead to play them in order.

In the Music app, tap the screen to bring up an extra menu bar showing the current song's timeline.  In the lower right is a pair of crossed arrows -- when enabled (blue), shuffle is on, tap it to turn shuffle off (gray).
Edited to add: That's when you've got the album cover image up, if you're on the track listing, tap the upper-right corner to bring it back to cover art view.  The other two indicators/buttons on the bottom of the same bar are "repeat" (bottom left) to repeat the current track or playlist (two options), and "genius" (bottom center) to generate playlists of songs similar to the one currently playing.
