Excuse me , info about KT4 Ultra temp issue BIOS 1.4

Hi, all, excuse me if I disturb u, but I've not understood compleltely if the low temps recorded by MSI KT4 ULtra sensors with BIOS 1.4 is a problem or is a real reduction of the temperatures offered by the new BIOS.
Thank you very much for your time
Bye
Marcello

No, its not enabled by default - and the temp issue is for real - not only reporting with less than 5-8*C, but also reversing the winbond sensors(CPU-SYS). I must tell you that the Cooler XP utility still works no mather if CPU HALT is enabled or not, taking another 5-8*C from your temperatures. Running an AMD Athlon XP Palomino 2100+  almost at 20*C with regular air cooling seems damn' science-fiction and the system with 5 degrees or more than the CPU.
So stick with what u've got, if it's ok and stable. And trust us, we've checked the BIOS, we've checked the temperatures with alternative measurments. We are not that ******

my question is that temp normal?
when i use the XP cooler of pc alert, the performance of the sistem change? how much?

    excuse my english

The system temp sensor may be between the first PCI slot and AGP slot, or somewhere near there if not mistaken. If you use a hot graphics card, that part will get hot too. Even it it's not, bad air flow around that area will accumulate heat too. Try with your casing fully opened and compare. If the temp dropped, then it's OK. If not, then you might have an issue.
Again, as long as it's stable, any temperature is OK.

  • KT4 Ultra XPCooler Issue

I have just installed a KT4 Ultra board with windows XP and the drivers supplied on the CD. The hardware monitoring software works but the XPcooler does not seem to issue the halt instruction to the CPU and so no cooling takes place. Nomal operation the CPU XP2200 runs about 44c.
I have checked the FAQ's and can find no information to help.
The CPU is not showing 100% when XPcooler is running so that must prove it is not having the desired effect.
    Any Ideas?

    Thanks Bas
Thats done the trick, the system is now down to 28c

Reads from internal diode sensor on those AMD chips that have one.  Otherwise it comes from a sensor on the circuit board under the socket-a.

  • KT4 Ultra FISR Updated Bios Still Reboots

I bought a KT4 Ultra last week.  I hooked up everything needed to install my OS (Video and Hard Drive) to install Windows 2000.  It took me a while to get a good install because it would crash in the middle of Win2K setup.  After reading the posts on the subject I upgraded the Bios to 1.3.  I no longer had problems with installing software of transferring large files between CD and HD.  Although a bit slow, it worked.
But now I have another problem.   The computer reboots when the CPU is being used hard, like running 3D intensive software.  For example I have 3D studio rendering and then I try to open Internet explorer and computer will reboot.
I check my PSU by measuring the voltage (with DMM) on the 5 volt line and causing a reboot during CPU intensive activities.  I even unplugged an extra HD and ran my FSB at 100 mhz.  I did not notice any voltage drop and the computer still rebooted.
I need to decide to if I want to return the MB, before I go out a buy a PSU and find out it did not fix my problem.
    Any ideas.

    Video Card is a
    Video: Compro GeForce3 Ti 200
    HD: Maxtor 30GB 7200 RPM ATA100
Power Supply (don't know brand name)
300W, with 150W for both the 3.3 and 5 Volts (at
    least according to the label)
The computer also rebooted while trying to run
Nero to copy a CD image to hard drive.  So I don't think its video card related.  I had this video card in my ABIT KT7 with no problems.

  • MSI KT4 Ultra & 160GB Issue

My specs are in my sig.  I'm running Windows 2000.
When I built my new machine, I used a 160GB Maxtor drive that I had in my old machine.  Now, my old machine suffered from the 130GB drive limit, so was used as such for a few months.  It has a single 127 Gb partition.
Now, when I came to build my new machine, the BIOS detected the 160 Gb correctly, as 163 Gb.  Unlike the auto-detection for the 80 Gb drive, none of the drive geometry info was automatically filled in.
Upon booting, the system reports these statistics for the 160 Gb drive:
    Cylinders: 65535
    Heads: 16
    Sectors: 255
Now, this equals 136.9 Gb .  8o  Thus, when I start Partition Magic 8 in Windows 2000, I cannot resize my partition to fill the entire drive, not even a tiny bit.  How can I get my system to correctly see the entire 160 Gb of space?   Reformatting is not something I really want to do, as I have over 115 Gb of data currently on the drive.
So, how can I get Windows 2000 to correctly see the entire 160 Gb of space, so that I can resize my partition to use all the available space?

Sorted it.  Used the PM8 DOS rescue disks, has a mini-version of PM8 on it, and it allowed me to resize my partition perfectly.
    Thanks for your input!

  • KT4 Ultra RAID Issue

On enabling and installing 2 Maxtor DiamondPlus9 SATA HDD's to a RAID array (striped, 64KB), I found that the performance was absolutely horrific.  Also, while HDD's are being accessed, the sound would distort badly.
Upon investigation, I found that the RAID array was being put on IRQ 19 (APIC), shared with my TV tuner card, and the sound card and sound capture is also on the APIC.  What the hell?  Shouldn't the RAID controllers get one of the basic IRQs?
I've tried setting my computer up as "Standard PC" but if I do that, I cannot use any of the USB ports because XP locks up during the driver install for them.
I think that this can only be solved by a BIOS fix.  Any other ideas?

My PC is also useless without keyboard, mouse and gamepad.  And substantially less useful without BT.

  • So, has anyone had better luck with the kt4 ultra's new bios?

ive seen so many posts on here about probs with the board (mines memory related) wondering if anyone has any positive notes on the new bios, or if they are still having problems... i had to box mine back up and install the trusty old FIC board, cause i COULD NOT get the msi to work. VERY frustrating to have what seems like a great piece of hardware boxed up for bios/other issues. do the msi engineers read this board?????? come on guys.....

    the p/n is pp-303XP
thats funny cause my system is working fine now on an older mobo. ive seen many people with similar problems (see the "MSI and a total lack of support" thread) and i really dont think its the power supply. i will reiterate:
the system runs fine with only 256 megs installed (pc2400) as soon as i plug in the other stick, wallah, nothing. your saying that the 3.8 volts or whatever it is that the stick of memory consumes, prevents the computer from starting up or even posting? i seriously dont think so. ive even tried all different hardware configs (took the ati card out and replaced it with an old TNT card) and it still wont work.
i dont need to get a bigger power supply.
MSI needs to provide better support, and get off their %$#%$ and at least get a stable bios out. from the looks of the forum, these boards are totally $%^&&.

  • MSI KT4 ULTRA + 1.40 BIOS & Overclocking

I am wondering what kind of Overclocks are people getting with the new 1.40 BIOS? I haven't broken mine in yet so I'm wondering what to expect.

I'm not a heavy overclocker, but it worked just fine for me :D

  • KT4 Ultra hi performace bios setting question

When using the hi performance bios setings, my Xp 2400+ shows clocked as 2030 mhz. Everything is clocked to stock speed, so why is there a slight oveclock. Thanks.

    Hi,
You may use WCPUID or Fuzzy Logic to check the real CPU speed instead.

  • KT4 Ultra FISR and Radeon 9700pro

OK, I upgraded my MB from the k7t266pro to an Kt4 Ultra.  I also upgraded to an AMD xp 2500+ and new DDR 333 ram.  My video card is the ati 9700pro.  This card functioned just fine with my old board as I never crashed.
Since I have upgraded I have not been able to play any 3d games!!  all the games start and are playable for 2-5 mins then it just completely freezes my system.  i cannot even do an end task and have to hit the reset button to restart the PC.
I am running Winxp home edition and am fully patched.  I have also upgraded the bios and installed every new driver from the live update utility.  i have the latest drivers available from ATI as well.
what gives here?  I have searched Google and various other sites and i have run across many many threads with people having identical problems with this board and video card.  my thought is that it is not the video card, as it ran flawlessly on my old MSI board.  i do PC support and system admin for a living and 99% of the time I can resolve PC problems on my own, however, I am at a loss with this one.  I have been a loyal MSI customer as this is the 4th MB i have bought from you guys over the years, but i can't help feeling disappointed right now.  any ideas?  This stinks as I was so looking forward to the upgrade in performance and now i got jack.

    System info:
    MSI KT4 Ultra FISR
    ATI 9700pro
    512 DDR 2700 Ram
    300w PS (AMD approved)
    Maxtor 30bg ata 133

I took the advice of some of you and got a Antec 430w TruePower PS to replace my old one.  Still no good.  I was a little skeptical about the new PS thing since I run a pretty minimal configuration.
    MSI KT4 Ultra - fisr
    AMD XP2500+
    Radeon 9700pro
    512mb 333DDR Ram
    30BG Maxtor HD 133ata
    Creative PC-DVD Drive
    1 Generic Floppy
As you can see, pretty sparse.  I soley use this box as a gaming type PC, so I try and keep the load light.  At this point I think I would like the board replaced.  Like I said, the 9700pro worked like a champ on my k7t266 pro, I doubt it is the new AMD CPU... so that leaves just the memory or the board at this point.  I mean, driver wise I am using the same drivers as those that do not have problems.  I am going to buy some high-end memory to eliminate that issue, but I highly doubt that will make the difference.  I hope I'm wrong though.
Oh, BTW the option to change the AGP slot back to 4x is locked out for some reason.  That kinda pisses me off too.  I mean, at least give me the option to bring it back down to 4x.

  • Problem with KT4 Ultra and XP 2700

First excuse my bad english (i'm from Germany)!!
I have a heavy problem with my KT4 Ultra.
    First my system:
    AMD Athlon XP 2700
Mainboard: MSI KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) Bios vers. 1.1

    Sound : Onboard
    GlobalWIN CAK38 II Kupfer
    Powersupply: Levicom 420W
    Win XP SP1
    Now the problen:
When i turn the FSB in the Bios up to 166MHz
the system crashes on Windows startupscreen!!
I've turned the FSP clock down to 164 MHz and Windows starts. But when i runned 3DMark2001 it crashes back to desktop !!
Then i turned the FSB clock down to 159 MHz and the system runns stabile!!
    Now what i've already tried:
Turned down Ram timings and frequency (same prob.)
    No heatproblem (CPU at 118.f)
Had the same system exapt an XP1800 instead an XP2700 and no problems!!
Called the MSI hotline (Germany) and they told me to type the FSB manually in the Bios (insted of numblock +and -).  ?(
Still the same problem !!  ;(
Has anyone the same problem as i ???
    THX !!

    Hi,
    I would try other ram....
Or start from BIOS default settings and only change CPU-FSB....
    See what happens...

  • KT4 Ultra (MS-6590) and Ati Radeon 8500

Hello. First of all excuse me for my english, but I'm italian
After upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3 bios I had visualization errors in Windows XP (vertical black lines, font corruptions, ecc), so I decided to downgrade bios to version 1.2. Now MSI released 1.4 bios and I upgraded to this new version with the hope they had solved these problems, but they hadn't. Then I tried to disable AGP Fast Write and now Windows looks fine even if sometimes there are some black screens for few milliseconds during gaming.
There is someone that have my same problems? Any suggestion? I don't want to leave 1.2 bios forever

  • KT4 Ultra FISR very slow HD & FWire with XPSP1

    Any suggestions please.
I used to get 35-45MBytes/s sustained copying 1G video files between drives using win2k sp4.
Then I had to go to XP to support the new 200G boot drive.
Now I get 15MBytes/sec copying files and the firewire runs at 7MBytes/s.
SiSandra says 40200 for the 200G, 26000 for raid 0 array (2x80G on promise pci ultra66).
HD Tach shows the 200G drives as 55MB/s down to 45MB/s & 25MB/s for the firewire.
It has to be a problem with winXP.
    Indexing has been turned off.

    External Firewire 200G & 80G seagates
    WIN XP SP1

So yesterday the system stopped dead - wouldn't boot into XP - and all my roms were at home.
So I did a system repair - no gui.
Ran full setup from the rom, got all the way to installing drivers and hang.
Repeat 5 times removing hardware at each step and disabling items in the bios.
Eventually got XP to install with generic PCI video, 1HD, 1 CDROM. No MB
Turned out to be that problematic Broadcom 5702. Had to disable in bios.
And the rom drive crunched my XP disk badly.
    Reinstall everything. What a pain.
Still having trouble with that broadcom adapter chipset...
Anyway with the network disabled in bios the firewire now does 15MBytes/sec sustained and Sisandra says my boot partition rates 37000, better than the 12000 previous..
