What an idiot. He obviously never followed any of the recommendations given in his equivalent Linux thread - http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5339913&messageID=10466185#10466185

  • Can't execute windows command in servlet with JDK1.5 and tomcat 5

    Hi all,
    I have a web application which uses a servlet to execute windows commands, such as "mkdir", "mv", and "rmdir". In my servlet, I use java Runtime() class to implement the execution.
    Under jsdk1.4 and tomcat 4, it is fine for the servlet to execute those command. But uncer jdk1.5 and tomcat 5, it gives the following error:
    error to execute a command: java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: mkdir c:\m7q28 error=2
    java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: mkdir c:\m7q28 error=2
    Please help me if you have any idea. Thanks.

  • Execute windows command line to a file

    Hi,
    I would like to run a windows command line from Java and output the result to a file.
    eg.
    cmd> mycommand hello > output.txt
    in windows ">" is to output the result to a file.
    I've tried
    String command  = "mycommand hello > output.txt";
    Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);But that exec() didn't output to a file.
    Can someone give me an example on how to do this?
    Thanks

    You are falling for one of the traps described here. The redirection operator '>' has to be interpreted by a shell or command processor. On windows this would be
    String command  = "cmd.exe /C mycommand hello > output.txt";and on Linux this would beString command  = "sh -c mycommand hello > output.txt";You should read all 4 sections of the traps article and implement ALL the recommendations or you will be back here again.

  • Help with executing windows command in java

    hi, i am trying to execute dos command in java. currently i am trying simply to create a folder in the current directory.
    here is the code snippet:
    try {
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("md myFolder");
    } catch (IOException io) {
    io.printStackTrace();
    i have also tried using "mkdir" instead of "md". but my code just throws an exception that says:
    java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: md myFolder error=2
    what have I done wrong? thanks in advance

    try {
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c
    mkdir myFolder");
    catch (IOException io) {
    io.printStackTrace();hey! that code worked out perfectly. so "cmd" is needed to run dos commands? i searched through the net, but most of the examples that i were able to find did not include "cmd".
    if it wouldn't be too much trouble, what is the option "/c" for?
    i would also like to add that "mkdir" also works. The problem was the missing "cmd /c". Thanks guys for your help! I really appreciate it.

  • Execute windows command for a network path

    hi,
    i am trying to execute the following code:
    try{
    Process process=Runtime.getRuntime().exec(new String[]{"cmd","/c","dir","C:\\Backup"});
    InputStream inputStream = process.getInputStream();
    BufferedReader bufferreader = new BufferedReader(new
    InputStreamReader(inputStream));
    String line = bufferreader.readLine();
    while(line!=null)
    System.out.println(line);
    line=bufferreader.readLine();
    It works very fine, but when i replace exec() with exec(new String[]{"cmd","/c","dir","\\hfvs4\\storage"}) or with exec(new String[]{"cmd","/c","dir","//hfvs4//storage"}) i am getting any output, the program just runs and terminates.
    help me to execute the "dir" on a network path.

    Shouldn't that be "\\\\hfvs4\\storage"?thanks a lot. that's a silly point i missed out.

  • Java with Windows Commands

    Ok, this is a pretty tricky one. Is there a way where I can tell java to execute windows commands? I mean, I would want to develop an app that when the user quits the java app, the machine would log out the current user using code. If somebody could give me any ideas how this can be possible, I would really appreciate it. The java app is going to be run from a JScript file that is going to be loaded as the user logs on to the machine. If anyone know of any way to do this with JScript as well, I would really aprreciate it. Thanks.
    Jose Bravo

    Maybe this is it, I'm not to windows savy but if you know the command to execute it should work. If it is a series of commands I recomend you create a batch file:
    (for java):
    import java.io.*;
    try {
    Process p = Process.getRuntime().exec("dir");
    // if you want to get the shell output //
    BufferedReader = new BufferedReader(p.getInputStream());
    } catch(Exception e) { }
    maybe this will work,

    Hi,
    you need to make the necessary changes to the %odi%\bin\odiparams.bat config file, under the "Repository Connection Information" section so that startscen knows how to extract metadata from your repository.
    You apparently have left the default settings to the Hypersonic demo repository. Is that the technology your repository is hosted on?

  • How to invoke BASH shell and execute a command in that shell in Windows 98

    Hello, I have a problem and if somebody will help me, I will be very glad. Thank you.
    I am using BASH shell on Windows 98 OS by means of CYGWIN. And I want to invoke this BASH shell and execute a preprogrammed command in the shell (./scan fileName.txt) from a JAVA program. But so far, I am not sucessful. I can not read or write anything from / to BASH shell. It either blocks and freezes (When I use waitFor( ) ) or appears and disappears without executing scan command (When I do not use waitFor( ) ). My code is like this:
    // This method is used for compiling a file.
    // It invokes BASH shell and executes "./scan fileName.txt" command
    public void compileFileMethod () {
    try {
    Process proc = ( Runtime.getRuntime() ).exec ("C:\\MyDocuments\\CYGWIN.BAT); //I also tried to add -c ./scan fileName.txt after .BAT );
    // I also tried to write "C:\\MyDocuments\\BASH.EXE" but it did not help
    OutputStream ostr = proc.getOutputStream();
    BufferedWriter bw = new BufferedWriter ( new OutputStreamWriter (ostr) );
    InputStream istr = proc.getInputStream();
    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader ( new InputStreamReader (istr) );
    InputStream errorStr = proc.getErrorStream();
    BufferedReader errorBr = new BufferedReader ( new InputStreamReader (errorStr) );
    bw.write("scan case40.10.txt"); /* I am trying to input the scan command to the shell,but it is not working*/
    bw.flush();
    Vector list = new Vector (1) ;
    String str;
    while ( (str = br.readLine() ) != null) {
    list.addElement(str);
    } // End of while
    Enumeration enumForList = list.elements();
    while ( enumForList.hasMoreElements() ) {
    String tempString;
    tempString = ( String ) enumForList.nextElement();
    System.out.println(tempString); // I am trying to read the outputs of the scan command but it is not reading (I can not see any output)
    I tried with and without waitFor( ), it did not work
    // wait for command to terminate
    proc.waitFor();
    // close streams
    br.close();
    bw.close();
    errorBr.close();
    } // End of try
    catch ( IOException ioe ) {
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (null, "Input / output error occured while compiling file ", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);
    } // End of catch
    catch ( SecurityException se ) {
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (null, "Security error occured while compiling file ", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);
    catch ( InterruptedException ie ) {
    JOptionPane.showMessageDialog (null, "Interruption error occured while compiling file ", "Error", JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE);
    } // End of method compileFileMethod
    // Thank you for your helps and time.

    You cannot invoke BAT files directly, you have to invoke the program that run those files which is your Windows 98 shell. For example (under windows 2000), i would invoke "cmd.exe sricpt.bat some args", rather than "script.bar some args".
    Hope this will help you out.

  • How do I execute a Windows command

    I want to be able to execute, for example, a 'dir' command and capture the output for parsing.

    Thanks for the reply. Here is the program I tried:
    import java.io.*;
    public class TestProcess
         public static void main(String[] args)
              throws Exception
              // execute the command
              Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec( args );
              // read the output from the command
              String line;
              BufferedReader output = new BufferedReader( new InputStreamReader( process.getInputStream() ) );
              while ( (line = output.readLine()) != null )
                   if (line.trim().length() > 0)
                        System.out.println( line );
              output.close();
    This is how I tested it:
    java TestProcess notepad (works ok)
    java TestProcess java (works ok, I get java help displayed)
    java TestProcess command /c dir
    I get>>> Exception in thread "main" java.io.IOException: CreateProcess: command /c dir error=0
    java TestProcess command.com /c dir
    it hangs
    I'm running on Windows 98. Any suggestions?

  • Executing shell commands from Java.

    I want to execute shell commands in Java using the Runtime.exec( String ) method.
    The method works fine under Linux OS, but under Windows '98 the method didn't work at all!
    For example the following call: Runtime.exec( "dir" ) throws an exception showing that the command was not completed. If I replace dir with ls under Linux all is good. What is the problem with the Microsoft Windows '98 ? Is there any solution at my problem ?!
    thx in advance!

    hey JSarmis,
    You can help me... "ls" doesn't work for me on linux.. using Runtime.exec, some commands work, others don't... you may hold the key to what i need? How did u get "ls" to work?

  • Executing a command using Runtime Class

    How to execute a command on a differnet machine with different ipaddress using Runtime Class
    My code is
    String[] cmd = new String[3];
    cmd[0] = "192.1...../c:/WINNT/system32/cmd.exe" ;
    cmd[1] = "/C" ;
    cmd[2] = args[0];
    Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
    System.out.println("Execing " + cmd[0] + " " + cmd[1]
    + " " + cmd[2]);
    Process proc = rt.exec(cmd);
    // any error???
    int exitVal = proc.waitFor();
    System.out.println("ExitValue: " + exitVal);
    This is not Working

    I have same issue. Actually when I use cmd.exe /c set in java code and if I run the java code in DOS propmt, it retrieves all latest user Environment variable values. But if I run the code in windows batch file, it is not retrieveing the latest user environment values until I reboot my computer, Do you know how to get user environment value with out rebooting machine??????

  • Executing UNIX command in Java

    I am having problems executing a command in Java. Here's the code I have for executing:
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmd);
                                            BufferedReader input = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
         while((display = input.readLine()) != null)
                             num_1 = Double.parseDouble(display);
                             percent = (num_1 * 100) / (50000000);
                        flip = 1;
                        catch(IOException e)
                        e.printStackTrace();
                        System.exit(1);
    Now, when I run the script, I receive the following errors:
    Exception occurred during event dispatching:
