TEMPDid you grant permissions for the user, such as SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE etc...

Oracle JDBC Driver, SQL, and erroneous ORA-00942
We've been running the following prepared statement without trouble for several months: "SELECT ST FROM STATELT WHERE UPPER(ST)=UPPER(?) OR UPPER(STATE)=UPPER(?) OR UPPER(ABBREV)=UPPER(?) ", using the latest version of the Oracle JDBC drivers. The code that calls the statement, in this case, substitutes "ME" for the three ? characters via setString().
Yesterday, we pointed our application to an identically populated schema running on the same Oracle 8.1.6.1.0 server. The only difference was that the schema name was 11 characters long rather than six. The STATELT synonym was valid, and could be queried via SQL*PLUS. However, running the query produced an ORA-00942: "table or view does not exist" error.
Here's the really weird bit: Adding a space to the above anywhere that is legal including before SELECT, at the very end of the SQL, between SELECT and ST (so that there are 2 spaces there), on either side of any of the ='s, all make the SQL work.
We tried this with an older 8.1.6 JDBC driver and the latest version from the Oracle TechNet site (downloaded yesterday), on three separate computers, and on Windows 2000 and Linux. The problem does seem to be specific to the new schema, but we see no reason why.
I'd like to know what's up here, since it is shipping software. I'm beginning to suspect that the Oracle Server itself might be responsible, rather than the JDBC driver per se.Luis Cabral wrote:

Although if you are changing the object structure then the code to deal with it must change as well. So, especially in developement, why is restarting a problem?It is not that restarting per se is a problem. Here us developers do not have the required privileges to restart the JDBC pool and we have to ask the DBA to do it, and sometimes he is not immediately available. It is not a big thing but this can impact the development process.Your development process is hideously flawed then.
The pool exists in the JEE server. And from your first post it seems that you have permission to restart that but not to access the management console. It is ridiculous to have access the the former and not the later.
Not to mention that you should have your own JEE instance to develop on. Actually it is weird to me that a DBA would even be touching a JEE server. The competent ones I know don't even know how to do that. They know the database not the application servers.
>
In addition, having to restart a whole JDBC pool just because you changed a database object definition does not seem very flexible to me. Such issue does not exist in other connection types, for instance in OCI connections, that is why I thought there should be an option to turn it off if required.
Well specifically you have to restart the pool because you were USING the object that changed.
And I am rather certain that you can turn off the pool entirely.
Even in production, I reckon that this may have a negative impact. For instance, say that you need to deploy a hot fix for a bug in one application that involves the re-creation of one single object type. This means that the whole JDBC pool, which may be used by other applications, may have to be shut down just because of that single object.Good point.
I suggest you stop using complex objects in Oracle. I suspect that would eliminate the problem completely. -
Hello,
i try to change the connection string of a Lightswitch 2013 project. I have a database for developers and a 'productive' database for releases. Both are similar (table names, entries etc..) and they are from ORACLE. First i attached the developer database
as an external source. Everything works fine. Now I'm trying to change the connection string whether my application is in a release state or in a developer state.
I found a hint in the following question to solve that issue: Question
from a LS-User
It is possible to change the connection string during the runtime. I tried it out and added to my DataBaseService.lsml.cs:
partial void DataBase_InitializingConnection(DatabaseConnectionState state)
state.ConnectionString = "DATA SOURCE=DB.productive;PASSWORD=password;PERSIST SECURITY INFO=True;USER ID=USER_PROD";
Well, Lightswitch is using the new connection. But when i run the application, i am getting the error "ORA-00942: table or view does not exist". The views and tables definitely exist. The two schemas are the same. So what am i doing wrong?
Regards from MunichHI Munich,
Welcome to Lightswitch forum.
According to your description above, you want to connect to external datasource in Lightswitch application.
Oracle is not a supported data source for LightSwitch, it's recommended to use SQL Server database.
If you want to change the connection string, you can update the connection string for a data source using the data source wizard. For example in VS2013:
Please let me know if there is anything that I can do to help.
Best regards,
Angie

10gLiteR3 publishing ORA-00942: table or view does not exist error
Hi All,
I am encountering table or view does not exist error while publishing using the api.
Below is the code:
try {
consolidatorManager.openConnection("MOBILEADMIN","PASSWORD", ADMIN_JDBC_URL);
mobileResourceManager = new MobileResourceManager("MOBILEADMIN","PASSWORD",ADMIN_JDBC_URL);
consolidatorManager.createPublicationItem(EXT_CONN, "RMT_TEST_TABLE" , "MOBILEADMIN","RMT_TEST_TABLE", "F", "SELECT * FROM MOBILEADMIN.RMT_TEST_TABLE", null, null);
consolidatorManager.addPublicationItem(mobileResourceManager.getPublication("/mobileApp"),"RMT_TEST_TABLE",null, null, "S", null, null);
} catch (Exception e) {
e.printStackTrace();
When I execute the above code it does not throw any exceptions but I see the below error in err.log. I,U,D triggers are getting created on the remote table, CMP, CFM, CVR,CLG tables are also created, I also see primary key for this table in VPKS. Publishing seems to be fine but I see the below error in err.log.

I am not able to figure out what table it is looking for. Any ideas why this is happening?check the MGP compose process, is it also showing the error?
If it is them at some point in 10.2 Oracle introduced a 'feature' (ie: bug) that causes problems to the housekeeping routines when new versions of publication items are published
In 10.0 and early 10.2 when making changes to publication items VIEWS called CPV$.. were created to log the column list for each version of a publication item, and check if you are making changes when you publish. In the case of old versions, once all clients have synchronised and been moved to the latest version it tries to delete this view.
at some point the publish started creating TABLES instead of views (but using the same naming convention ie: CPV$..). This works fine as far as the logging of changes and old column lists, but the housekeeping called at the end of the publish and GP process still trieds to do a DROP VIEW and this causes the error.
The only way of clearing this i have found is to look at the log file to get the name of the object that it is trying to drop, set up a view script to create a dummy view with the list of columns in the table, drop the table and then create the view. It then gets dropped on the next MGP cycle and the error goes away
If the error is not showing up in the MGP process, only in the publish, and your changes appear to be publishing OK, then the problem is likely to be with a snapshot definition AFTER the change you have made - real pain to identify on re-publish - possibly missing schema name in the snapshot definition -

The table i am inserting into using the DB adapter does exist in the subscribing DB. The only thing i can think of is some table/view is missing within the hub repository itself.
Please help.
Thanks!
-MBInitially I would try calling the subscribe package standalone in SQL*plus or TOAD just to check its not somekind of config problem...
The subscribing adapter trys calling the subscribing package passing in the message as an oracle data type.
I would write a small pl/sql wrapper that calls you subscribing package outside of the runtime Interconnect environment. If this all works and you can insert data into the table then it maybe something to do with the metadata in the repository and then i'd go along with Ian's suggestion.
But usually if you can successfully use iStudio to edi things then usually the repository is OK.
Also from your log you can see that it has picked up the message and is trying to call the packaged/procedure so it looks like the adapter is working OK.
Cheers Stuart. -

ORA-00942 on import application
I created an application in one database (Oracle 10) with Apex 4.1.1.
I exported this application, and tried to import it using the Apex 'Application Builder' page into another database (Oracle 10) with Apex 4.1.1.
But I encounter an ORA-942 (complete error message as shown in my browser).
Workflow:
- Open page Home - Application Builder - Import (page nr 460)
- Browse for import file
File type 'Database Application, Page or Component Export'
- Click next. For 2 sec's I see 'Importing file', then below error appears.
Has anybody seen this?
PS Sofar only the default 'Sample Database Application' existed in the destination database, and that app is working normally.

Now I noted a big difference between my development setup on my laptop, and the production setup (by our dba).
In my laptop, the http client connects to APEX_PUBLIC_USER.
In production, the http client connects to the oracle user where we will setup our application tables. -

SSNHi,
Thanks.
Tried log mining, but still couldn't find the culprit. I think now, I have to drop and create this db.Still wondering what might have happened.

SELECT * FROM DBA_OBJECTS WHERE OBJECT_NAME = '/BIC/SZTERR_CD ';
I did finish all the unicode preconversion steps and also ran the SMIGR_CREATE_DDL program. I had exported recently from the same system but I never got this error during that run.
Another question is about the order in which the steps need to be performed. I completed the preconversion steps, then ran the SMIGR_CREATE_DDL program before proceeding to the export phase. Is this right or does it not matter?
Thanks again for your help!Hello Stacy,

If the object does not exists on the source target database, please check if the ddic of sap still contains the table definition. (SE11 or SE14)
If yes you can set the status of the table /BIC/SZTERR_CD to "ok" in the corresponding task file.
You can not fix this problem in other way after you have started the conversion, because of the export files are already generated (with the information of the sap ddic)...

That was the right way.

Dbms_sql in a different schema from query table-error ** ORA-00942
Oracle Experts,
I think I am having problems with using DBMS_SQL in which the function was created in one schema and the query table was created in a different schema.
We have 2 schemas: S1, S2
We have 2 tables:
T1 in Schema S1
T2 in Schema S2
We have a function F1 created by DBA in schema S1 that uses the dbms_sql as:
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION S1.F1(v1 in VARCHAR2) return NUMBER IS
cursor1 INTEGER;
BEGIN
cursor1 := dbms_sql.open_cursor;
dbms_sql.parse(cursor1, v1, dbms_sql.NATIVE);
dbms_sql.close_cursor(cursor1);
return (0);
EXCEPTION
when others then
dbms_sql.close_cursor(cursor1);
return (1) ;
END;
I am using jdeveloper 11G. We have an Oracle DB 11g.
We have a java program which uses jdbc to talk to our Oracle DB.
Basically, in my java program, I call function F1 to check if the query is valid.
If it is, it returns 0. Otherwise, returns 1:
oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement cstmt = (oracle.jdbc.OracleCallableStatement) connection.prepareCall ("begin ? := S1.F1 (?); end;");
cstmt.registerOutParameter (1, java.sql.Types.INTEGER);
cstmt.setString(2, "Select * from S2.T2");
cstmt.execute ();
Since the table that I run the query is T2, created in different schema than F1 was created in, I have the error:
** ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
So my questions are these:
- I am using Oracle DB 11g, if I run the query on a table that created in a different schema from the one that the function (which uses dbms_sql) was created in, I would get the error ORA-00942?
- If I runs the query on table T1 in the same schema as the function F1, would I have the same problem(The reason I ask is I cannot create any table in schema S1 because the DBA has to do it; I am not a DBA)
- This is not a problem, but a security feature because of SQL injection?
- How to resolve this issue other than creating the table in the same schema as the function that utilizes DBMS_SQL?
Regards,
BinhDefiner rights (default) stored objects run under owner's security domain and ignore role based privileges. So regardless what user you are logged in as, function S1.F1 always executes as user S1 and ignores user S1 roles. Therefore exeuting statement within S1.F1:
Select * from S2.T2requires user S1 to have SELECT privilege on S2.T2 granted to S1 directly, not via role.

Error rendering element. Exception: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
Guru,
We are maintaining 10 internal Database through OEM 10g and using seesded reports.
When we try to create simple custom reports against one of the Target database , its failing with following error message ,
Query : select * from v$database
Error rendering element.
Exception: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
select * from dual & v$session working ( But query execution happeniing from Reposistory Database not from Target instance )
Note:
I have reviewed thred "getting ORA-00942 while running report in GC"
Please give some light .
Regards,
RajuThis is an EM related question so I would suggest you post in the appropriate space "Enterprise Manager" -- https://forums.oracle.com/community/developer/english/enterprise_management/enterprise_manager/enterprise_manager_6
You may also review (In Grid Control 10.2, Creating a Report to Query 'V$SESSION 'Fails: 'Error Rendering Element. Exception: ORA-00942 Table Or View Does Not Exist' (Doc ID 356755.1)) and implement the solution for v$database
Thanks,
Hussein
