Executing command on startup doesn't work

Hello,
I'm trying to execute this script when X starts:
xmodmap -e " keycode 118 = Delete"
which works, when is executed manually from console. I tried to run it automaticaly after login and starting X by putting it into .zprofile, /etc/profile, /etc/profile.d/***, .xinit or to my awesome wm config (all other scripts here are executed normally - eg pulseaudio --start). But this command is never executed. I tried even variant with adding this to .Xmodmap and then add xmodmap .Xmodmap to .xinit, but without success.
Thanks

Here is how my .xinitrc looks like:
#! /bin/bash
xmodmap -e " keycode 118 = Delete"
exec awesome
When I manually type this command, everything works. But it doesn't work after reboot (and .xinitrc is surely executed, because awesome starts ok).
xmodmap seems to be time sensible. Anyhow, on my WM startup file I have:
(sleep 10; xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap; sleep 5; xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap) &
I come to this by trial and error.
Has said I have it on my WM startup file, but having it on .xinitrc is also OK.

    Voice command for Contacts doesn't work after a reboot or a contacts restore.
    Steps to reproduce:
    1. Backup contacts. Open Files > Backup & Restore > Select Contact for Backup Contents and select Back up now.
    2. Edit/save a contact, press and hold the call button, speak contacts name. The voice recognition works fine.
    3. Restore contacts. Open Files > Backup & Restore > Select Contact for Backup Contents and select Restore.
    4. Reboot phone when prompted.
    5. Press and hold the call button, speak contacts name. The voice recognition does not work.
    Work around:
    Edit and save each contact.
    Additional Information:
    Social integration with contacts also does not work after a reboot. The facebook icon and "See what xxx is up to on Facebook" is not displayed. The same work around "Edit and save each contact" also applies. This occurs using the Nokia N8 and Nokia 808 Pureview.

    I have my phone paired with my car, I can do everything except it does not recognize any of my contact names. If I try say a contact name, it says "not recognized" but if I say the contacts phone number, the name pops up onthe display in my car.
    Has anyone had this issue, is there a setting I am missing in my phone?
    Hello,
    This is not necessarily and issue with the phone. It could also be an issue with the car`s bluetooth software that is only limited to some functions like reading your contacts list, last calls, missed calls, etc. which is most likely the basic 2.0 version.
    The Z30 has the 4.0 version that has a lot more communication capability but if the car`s bluetooth its a lower version, then you will not be able to take full advantage of it unless you upgrade the bluetooth software in your car. Call your dealer and inquire about the bluetooth software upgrade in your car

  • [SOLVED] - xset at startup doesn't work

    I use the following command to set my screensaver options
    xset dpms 30 60 300
    After reading the Arch wiki, I found out that this can be made permanent by adding this to the xorg.conf or putting it in ~/.xprofile

    If you have set up your .xinitrc the way karol suggests and it still doesn't work, you could delay it kicking in until X has finished loading
    (sleep 15s && xset dpms 30 60 300) &
    exec yourwm
    That may get around the problem bernarcher describes...

  • Command+1 shortcut doesn't work in iTunes 7?

    During the years of having iTunes 5 & 6, I used to have those keyboard shortcuts like command+1, command+2 to show the main window of iTunes and Equalizer. This function is really helpful when you choose one song to play, then close the iTunes window to save the space on desktop, then use command+1 to show the main window of iTunes again when you need it. Really convenient.
    But since I updated the iTunes 7 yesterday, I sadly found out that the key stroke combination of command+1 doesn't work anymore. Now every time when you need the iTunes window to show up, you have to click the iTunes 7 icon on the dock again. And same as the command+2 for equalizer. Since iTunes 7 erased the equalizer icon on the main pane in the corner right below, this is really not so fast as before to get those windows showed when you need them.
    This issue is really unlikely to happen because I checked the new help topics of iTunes 7, there still are the entries of command+1/2 in the help topics, but they just do not work!!! Is that a new bug of iTunes 7?
    Anyone has any idea about solving this problem? Or did anyone found the new keyboard shortcuts? Thanks in advance!!!

  • How do I fix a command key that doesn't work?

    I bought a new iMac in December  with the keyboard that comes with the system.  Now my command key doesn't work. I've tried reseting to defaults in case I did something without realizing it, but it hasn't worked.  The really strange thing is that it started working again once, then a few days later stopped again.  Any one know what my problrem might be?  It could be the keyboard itself, but if so, I'll be very disappointed!

    Do SMC reset, in order for it to work it make take 2-3 attempts. You can find instructions by clicking Intel iMac SMC and PRAM resets

  • Find Command in iCal doesn't work

    I have tried to use the Find Command in iCal. It doesn't work either from the Edit pull down command nor the keyboard command. Please try this in your setup and tell me whether it works?

  • Command-X (cut) doesn't work in finder

    If I use "Finder" and I want to "cut" a file the shortcut (command X) doesn't work and in the menu(edit) "cut" is grey.
    I can only use drag&drop... in "textedit" it's possible to "cut" words!
    What's going wrong?
    Please help!
    regards
    soho

    The original idea behind the Macintosh clipboard in 1984 was to allow for temporary cut/copy/paste actions inside applications for text and images. In Windows, cut/copy/paste was supported in the OS for actual files on disk, which really doesn't fit into the concept, but unfortunately became a very popular shortcut.
    In OS X, Apple decided to add support for copy/paste for files. Cut was not added. If you cut something (like text), and then cut/copy again, you lose your original cut. Similarly, to avoid a possible mistake where cut could permanently destroy a file, it is not supported in the OS X Finder.
    For most seasoned Mac users this isn't an issue, but for switchers from Windows it does seem a bit confusing. If you want to "cut" a file you really should just move it using drag&drop.

  • Specifying resources in WCAP command "storeevents.wcap" doesn't work

    Hi all. I tried to add an event with a WCAP command like this :
    http://calendarserver/storeevents.wcap?id=XXXX&calid=XXXX&dtstart=XXXX&dtend=XXXX&summary=XXXX&resources=RESOURCE_CALID&fmt-out=text/xml
    The event is stored correctly but not the resource i want associate to it. I also tried "inviting" the ressource as an attendee (&attendees=RESOURCE_CALID) but i want the RSVP set to true, so this doesn't work for me either.

  • Execute Commands on startup Enlightenment

    Hi,
    How to execute command together with startup the environment Enlightenment?
    Always startup I have execute in "Run Command":
    1- stalonetray -> For system tray
    2- nm-applet -> For Network Manager (I love this software)
    3- tpb -d -> For my thinkpad
    P.S: I use GDM.

    You just need to add these apps to your startup applications.  Left-click the screen for Menu->Settings->Settings Panel->Apps->Startup Applications.  You might need to create .desktop files for the apps you want to start using Menu->Settings->Settings Panel->Apps->New Applications.
    edit: if you didn't use gdm you could just add those apps to your .xinitrc file, iirc.

  • My MacBook is frozen and Command/Option/Escape doesn't work. What do you suggest I do? Any suggestions?

    My MacBoook is frozen and Command/Option?escapedoesn't work. I tried turning it off manually, but that doesn't work either.  What doyou suggest?

    Any external BT keybaord or mouse that can be turned off and break a cycle in that interface?  Any external USB device or external monitor that can break a locked-loop on those dvices?
    Holding the power button for 10 seconds (maybe more) should hard-stop all (even background) processes.  Can leave the system unbottable if stopped at wrong point, so is a last resort.

  • Command + T shortcut doesn't work on Mac

    Using Firefox 5.0 on Mac OS X 10.6.8. The Command + T shortcut for opening a new tab doesn't work. I didn't try all the keyboard shortcuts, but among those ones I frequently use this is the only shortcut that doesn't work.

    Hi everyone,
    Thanks for your replies. However I think each of them misses the point. I realize that I should have given ( even ) more information, so sorry about that. I will try and do that here.
    It's about a link to a website like www.website.com ( is a fake name for example purposes!! ). It has worked on both my PC and laptop!! Somewhere along the way ( cannot quite remember when ) there was an update of some kind on my laptop, that apparantly hasn't occured on my PC ( yet ), that has caused the link to 'break'. Therefore I suspect it's a setting matter of some kind, but cannot figure out which one and where to (re)set. Also because the problem stays when I try to delete and recreate the link, also by dragging it from the website to the desktop.
    Hope this addition give you sufficient information. If not, don't hesitate to ask further questions.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Command I/B doesn't work

    If I am starting text on a new line, and use the Command+I (Italics) or Command+B (bold) or Command+U (underline) shortcut on my keyboard, it does not register the command. Additionally, clicking on the same options in the toolbar does not work either. It only works when midsentence, or when text is selected...any fix for this? It always worked in the older Pages...

    Hey Hypotrochic!
    I have an article here that can address that question for you:

    Sometimes when I type into the input field in the Find function, nothing at all happens after I press Enter.
    If I exit Lightroom, then restart it, the Find function will work OK.

  • Jar command jar -uf doesn't work on Vista

    I try to use the jar command jar -uf to add information from a JAR into another. This works fine on XP, but not on Vista.
    I use the same commands and the same files on Vista and XP, but I get this error message on Vista:
    java.io.IOExeption: An error occured when writing to the JAR file
    Why does this happen? How can I make the jar command jar -uf work on Vista?

    I don't use Vista however it could be related to a [Vista file permission problem|http://paulstamatiou.com/2007/02/09/how-to-quickie-vista-permissions].

  • EXECUTE IMMEDIATE within Procedure doesn't work!!

    Hi,
    I have a code in which the procedure is successfully created, but when I try to check if the table TEST_TABLE is created (ex, DESC TEST_TABLE) it generates an error:
    ORA-04043: object TEST_TABLE does not exist
    Which means that my EXECUTE IMMEDIATE didn't work within the procedure for some reason, while it works perfectly alone without the procedure!!
    Hope you help me with this..
    Here's the my code:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TEST_IMM1
    AS
    BEGIN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE ' CREATE TABLE TEST_TABLE (ITEM_DESC VARCHAR2(10))';
    END;
    --Procedure created.
    DESC TEST_TABLE
    ERROR:
    ORA-04043: object TEST_TABLE does not exist

    user11921409 wrote:
    Thanks a lot Ahmed, yes it worked after executing the procedure and table is created. But that's only one part of the problem, in which after dynamically creating the table TEST_TABLE, I should be able to insert data to it such as:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE TEST_IMM1
    AS
    BEGIN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE ' CREATE TABLE TEST_TABLE (ITEM_DESC VARCHAR2(10))';
    END;
    --Procedure created.

    BEGIN
    TEST_IMM1;
    INSERT INTO TEST_TABLE VALUES ('A');
    END;
    --Warning: Procedure created with compilation errors.
    PL/SQL: SQL Statement ignored
    PL/SQL: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    Can you tell me how to use INSERT with EXECUTE IMMEDIATE.
    Thanks :)Just as an FYI, this is really not a good methodology to program in Oracle. If you're doing this for purely learning purposes then it's less 'bad', but if you plan on programming as a career in Oracle, this isn't the method you'd want to adopt (i'll not say there is NEVER a case for something like this, but it's a small percentage of the typical use cases).
    You would do better to create a global temporary table if you need a table to muck around with in a session, or create a permanent table (likely not via procedures) and have it persist in the schema of your choice.
    Utilizing execute immediate for insert statements, especially without BIND VARIABLES, will create a sad day for your database.
